Behind the Scenes: Rarity Investigates
"OH MY GOSH, RARITY, I'M SO EXCITED!" fangirled Rainbow as she placed her palms on her cheeks in excitement. She jumped up in the air, opening her wings flapping them and hovering. Rainbow was giddy and smiling like a serial killer. "Flying" helped her from becoming the new Pinkie Pie. Which meant hyperactivity with no end. Which was pretty much never good in any situation. Unless you were the actual Pinkie Pie.
"Yes, I know. You've repeated that a hundred times on the ride here. Please turn around for a second," said Rarity as she waved her hand in Rainbow's direction. "Fine," stated Rainbow bluntly and at the same time, quizzically. She turned around and put her hands in front of her, weaving her fingers together tightly. She stood on her tippy-toes, waiting for Rarity to finish whatever she was doing so she could start flying. Well, not flying, or she would hit her head, with the train moving at an accelerated pace. More like hovering really high. Rarity looked at Rainbow's hair, evaluating, and then said, "Rainbow, it seems that you need a hair cut. Your hair seems too long."
"Well, when we get there. I don't need my hair to look ridiculous because you cut it on the train."
"I don't even have my scissors! Look, we're here." Rarity pointed outside to the approaching train station. Rainbow rushed to the window, seeing the moving landscape slow down.
"Rainbow?"
"Yes, Rares?"
"Your hairtie?" Rarity held out a hairtie. Smiling sheepishly, Rainbow took it and set her feet lightly on the carpeted ground. "Come on, I want to get flying." Rainbow grabbed her bag and waited impatiently for Rarity so they could off the train.
"Are you excited to meet the Wonderbolts?" asked Rarity. They were walking to Canterlot Carousel, with Rarity holding her luggage with her magic, and Rainbow actually carrying hers, which was just a blue Wonderbolt's sports bag. Rarity's luggage consisted of a couple of large suitcases. Rarity said she packed lightly for the trip, but Rainbow knew Rarity never actually packed lightly.
"Yeah, and I'm really excited to meet-" Rainbow was cut off. "Soarin?" Rarity looked at Rainbow, quirking up an eyebrow. "No, I was going to say Spitfire."
"But I thought you liked Soarin." There was a teasing tone on the word "liked". "Rarity, we were over this many times. He's just a friend. Friend."
"You rescued him, Spitfire, and Misty Fly when I accidently knocked them out at the Best Young Fliers Competition."
"I rescued Soarin AND Misty Fly AND Spitfire."
"But you saved his pie at the Gala-"
"That was his pie. Not him."
"Then you grabbed him before he hit the ground at Rainbow Falls."
"He was falling, and no one else tried to save him."
"Argh!" Rarity stomped her foot. "Oh, what about what he said after you saved him."
"It's not important."
"He said 'You're the best, Rainbow Dash'. What about that?"
"We're still just friends."
"Oh, Rainbow. You're more stubborn than Applejack! Just admit that you like Soarin."
Rainbow and Rarity reached the boutique. "Oh, look. We're here. Goodbye, I'm going to take a cloud nap. See ya!" Rainbow quickly stammered this as she dropped her bag on the doorstep of the boutique and sped off.
"Oh, she absolutely does have a crush on Soarin!" Rarity said with a slight smirk.
Rainbow's point of view
I was flying around Canterlot, looking for a cloud to nap on. Looking down at the Canterlot people milling around, I admit that they look ridiculous in their fancy get up. Suits, fancy umbrellas, long dresses, fancy gloves, the works. I flew around in the sky for a bit, until I found the perfect cloud. I sat down on it, knowing that my flight magic prevented me from falling through the cloud. I raked my hand through my hair, flattening it. It was all wind-blown and CRAZY after my flight. Pulling the hair tie from my wrist, I tied my rainbow hair into its usual ponytail. I sighed and layed down, the memories from Rarity's "speech" flooding my mind.
"Rarity, why, oh, why did you bring up that topic?" I felt that Rarity was being silly, talking about Soarin, and how I like him. I flipped my body, my face now against the cold cloud. Soarin was one of my idols, and Rarity saying that I liked my idol made it weird. Really weird. Folding my hands and putting my chin on them, I looked out at the sky. It was full of clouds. I remembered that my weather team in Ponyville was helping the weather team here in Canterlot stir up a rainstorm. There was a drought in Canterlot, and the rainstorm would help fix it.
I was lucky my weather team let me off duty for a few days to come to Canterlot. They knew I didn't want to miss out the Royal Garden opening.
I opened my wings and covered my head with the light blue feathers. I was going to close my eyes and take a nap until a thought struck me. Soarin's going to be at the Garden opening. Please, no. I didn't want to meet him, especially now with Rarity's crazy thoughts and opinions crowding my mind.
"NO, NO, NO!" I screamed and put my hands on my head, my fingers weaving into my hair. My cries weren't loud enough to reach the Canterlot folk, and I was relieved, because of this unexpected panic attack, I certainly didn't want anyone hearing me,. Before any other thought reached my brain, I shut my eyes, slammed myself on to the cloud, and forced myself into an uneasy sleep.
I felt cold. Bitter, biting, schocking, freezing cold. I opened my eyes and gasped in fright and horror. I was falling to the ground from the sky. My magic must have turned off when I forced myself unconscious. My wings were wrapped around myself, while my legs were kicking the air. I quickly peeled my wings from around myself. It was no easy task, since the blowing wind froze them stiff. I started to flap like a maniac, struggling to keep airborne. I also started to wave my arms like crazy, but then I just put my hands over my head. I was getting closer to the ground, so I shut my eyes and braced for the impact. But my wings didn't fail me this time, so I hovered about 5 feet off the floor, instead of being a Rainbow blob on the ground. Shuddering at the thought, I dropped my hands to my sides and floated to the ground. "Sweet Celestia, it's late," I told myself as I looked at the slowly dimming sky. I needed to meet up with Rarity before the dinner with the 'Bolts. I started to walk, heading to where I thought Rarity's boutique was. I opened my wings a few times, letting the lowering sun warm them. I was trying to forget how I went all "melodramatic" because of the unwarned panic attack. I felt like I couldn't breathe when it happened. Ha, "melodramatic". Pinkie'll like that. Melodramatic, nervouscited, I now know that Pinkie's weird vocabulary is growing is growing on me. Walking for about fifteen minutes, I soon reached Canterlot Carousel. I slammed the door open. "Hey guys, how's it-"
Rarity's POV
Me and Sassy sigh in horror and exasperation. Rainbow just HAD to slam the door and drop my new fashion line. Rainbow rushed from the door frame and picked up the mannequins. "Sorry for messing up your dress thingies," Rainbow smiled sheepishly as she sweeped her hand over one of the dresses. "Well, nothing we can't fix in a stitch," Sassy smiled at Rainbow. "What are you doing here in Canterlot?"
"I'm here for the Royal Garden opening."
"Oh, I've seen that the gardens are especially lush this season. I've heard the Wonderbolts are going to be kicking things off," said Sassy as she adjusted a mannequin stand.
"You've heard right. And Rainbow here is going to be performing with them," I said as I waved a finger at Rainbow.
"Well not performing exactly. I'm just the lucky reserve called in to perform just in case a Wonderbolt can't make it."
"Oh don't be so modest. Out of all the reserves, you were the one chosen."
"Well, yeah I'm pretty lucky."
"So see you at the dinner?"
"See you then." Rainbow turned around and left, slamming the door in the process. Luckily, Sassy Saddles held onto the mannequins with her charmer magic. Phew. But then someone slammed open the door, making the mannequins fall, again. "Ugh," I said as I turned around to see who slammed the door.
