There was always a distinct sound to it.

There was plenty to harvest this year round, the family having avoided any major disasters this season that could harm their crops and way of life. Macintosh could appreciate the mindset of such thinking, but his apples were tougher than most. So he didn't pluck them down with his hands, or any fancy tools.

With a practiced turn and pivot on his right foot, he grit his teeth and lashed out with his foot, the boot colliding with the trunk and unleashing a heavy wave of motion that was sent upwards into the tree's waiting branches. “I ain't...Ah don't know.” he tried to explain, but he fumbled. Vocalizing his thoughts was difficult for him, especially when emotion was laced into his thinking process.
