Prologue: A New Alicorn

It was a cold, dark night in the arctic of the frozen north.  There was a dark cave hidden hundreds of miles from the Crystal Empire.  Wendigoes flew above the cave that was hidden upon the midst of pony and dragon statues.  A ruined fortress laid buried in the cold ice.

In the cave, a long spiraling stairway crept ever so in the darkness.  Green crystallized cocoons hung from ice glaciers.  On the flat bottom, arched dragon claw-like pillars surrounded a circular stone table.  A red horn of a unicorn pony lay on the table.

Then a brown hooded pony entered the cave.  The pony descended down into the darkness, with a small glowing horn.  The pony walked down the spiraling stairway and walked toward the table that held the red horn.

“The time for revenge has almost come,” said the hooded pony, which sounded to be a gray male unicorn.  His voice was deep and shallow.  He lifted his hood and shown his face to the red horn.  His black mane, with some brown swirls, was long and curled.  His eyes were glaring red, and his grey horn was curved.  “The time to strike back is nearly there.  Within three days the Princess of Friendship shall be a mother and she will have a daughter.  I will not allow this foal become an Alicorn.  And I will be ready to attack them… father.”

“You always keep saying that,” hissed a female voice.  “Are you really going to keep talking like or are you just deluded of taking over Canterlot?”

“It’s very rude to be talking while lingering in the darkness, Chrysalis,” said the dark pony.

Then the changeling queen Chrysalis emerged from the darkness, revealing herself to the dark pony.  Her wings had been torn and her horn was dented.  Her frail body leaned toward the right side as her legs limped weakly.

“That is QUEEN Chrysalis to you.”

The gray pony stood up and walked to the frail changeling queen.  “Then why do you have such a weak body, queenie?  Don’t forget it is I who found you.  You!  The great and powerful changeling queen ripped of her beauty and magic.  I found you when you were buried in the ice, completely stripped of everything.  I even found the remnants your changeling army, which I counted no higher than fifty.

“When I found you, I expected you to be powerful and… well, better than your current state.  You should have known better than to spare the little Alicorn when you had the chance of silencing her.  Instead, you decide to imprison her.”

“I did what I had to make sure I won.  If it weren’t for that little purple wrench, I would have succeeded.”

“If you had silenced her when you had her alone, you would have won.  Now, she is an Alicorn and the Princess of Friendship.  You let a little weak unicorn get the better of you, changeling.  She has become more powerful than you, and you’ve let her become powerful.  When her daughter is born, there is one more Alicorn to deal with.”

“Hyph,” the weak changeling grunted.

The gray unicorn levitated the horn of the dead King Sombra and walked it over to a mirror.  The mirror showed the reflection of the grey unicorn when he gazed upon it.  Then a vision appeared how King Sombra was blasted away and the Crystal Empire saved.

“My father was weak, too.  Despite all the powers he’d thrown at the ponies and that dragon, he hadn’t succeeded in the hostile takeover of the Crystal Empire.  However, he had a backup plan: me.  I, Deep Sorrow, will finish what my father had started.”

Deep Sorrow walked away from the mirror showing him the flashback of his father’s defeat.  He placed the horn back on the stone table.

Suddenly the cave began to rubble.  The green cocoons swung as rocks fell.  Cracks grew upon the walls and the spiraling walkway.  A grim, large cloud of Shadow emerged from the horn.  Green eyes glared with great anger and fear.  Sombra’s spirit was not broken.

Deep Sorrow knelt before the presence of his father: King Sombra.

“My son, you are now my last hope for my survival,” said Sombra’s disembodied voice.  “Do not make the same mistakes I have made.  Before you go charging off to battle, annihilate the Princesses.  Wipe them from existence!”

“Yes, my father,” replied Deep Sorrow.  “And do the same Twilight Sparkle’s little foal?”

“It’s a little foal.  It will have no memory the day, in which it will be born nor remember what mother it may have, as long as its eyes are shut.  Make that foal one of us.  Make me a Shadow Alicorn.”

“And if she is resistant?”

“Kill her before she discovers her Alicorn magic is meant for a new brand of Elements like the Elements of Harmony.  This baby must not lead a new brand of Elements, which would be our ultimate downfall and the ultimate of evil itself.  Don’t fail me!”

“As you wish,” nodded Deep Sorrow.

Sombra's Shadow form drifted back into his broken horn.

“It seems you may have to start tonight instead of tomorrow,” said Chrysalis.

“It will all depend, if your changelings are strong as you say they,” said Sorrow.

“I will not have you question my subjects’ strength.  They are as powerful as I have told you.  They feed on love of ponies.  It happened to me when I fed on Shining Armor’s love for his pitiful wife Cadence.”

“I know what happened down there.  Still it all depends if they can infiltrate on being the Royal Guards.  If you want vengeance against Twilight, we must wait for Twilight to become desperate, sleepless.  We must show Princess Twilight Sparkle what is means when there is a real threat clanging on her very own life.”

“What do you mean?” asked the queen.

“Twilight’s love of her friends is her greatest strength and her greatest weakness.  Twilight’s unborn daughter will also be her weakness.  First, I will falsely curse the baby and make Twilight think her daughter’s life is on the line.  This will make Twilight Sparkle feel desperate to find a way to remove the fake curse.  And when she is tired and desperate to sleep, we’ll attack her with all the power we have and take her daughter.”

“Oh, come on.  She’s an Alicorn, and she’s going to have hundreds of guards.  Not to mention her so-called friends will be there with her.  Their connection to the Elements of Harmony is still strong.”

Deep Sorrow leaned toward the weak changeling queen.  “And the Elements of Harmony will grow stronger when her friends have their own sons and daughters!  Twilight’s daughter will lead them toward a brighter future, and she is the key of the future.  We have better toss that key before it unlocks a brighter future for Twilight and her friends.”

Deep Sorrow turned away from the queen and walked to Sombra’s horn.  Sorrow horn glowed and the gray pony levitated a toy figure looking like Twilight Sparkle.  “By my father’s will, Twilight’s daughter will join the Legion of Shadow or die!”

Then his horn magically dropped the toy to the ground and stomped it hard.  His pounding hoof squished the cotton stuffing from the stuffed toy, threatening the life of a young pony.
