Celestia’s sun lowered over Equestria, casting a light orange glow as the evening slowly gave way to night. The citizens of Ponyville were winding down, closing up shop and retreating back to the comfort of their homes in preparation for a good night’s sleep. A few miles outside the town limits, Mario, Luigi and Yoshi were far removed from that warmth and comfort.
Staggered thumping of shoes on dirt was the only sound to be heard, save for the rustling of tree leaves nearby. The trio ran down a dirt trail alongside a forest unknown to them. Yoshi and Luigi were breathing heavily, sweating from the unforgiving venture. Mario sat comfortably on the saddle of his trusty steed.
“Are you sure we’re going the right way Mario?” Luigi asked his brother the question for a fifth time as they continued trekking.
“I’m positive this will lead us back to the main trail. We’ll be arriving at the doors to Princess Peach’s new castle in no time!”
Luigi facepalmed and sighed loudly.
“She said her new place was roughly thirty minutes away from our house. We have been gone for eleven hours...”
“Luigi, we may have took a few wrong turn offs but we’re bound to be back on track soon.”
“Goddammit Mario, this wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t use our map as a napkin!”
“But I didn’t want-a spaghetti sauce stuck in my moustache all day.”
“Can both of you shut up, this isn’t going to fix anything!” Yoshi interjected.
“Stay out of this Yoshi, just keep jogging until we reach the end of this trail.”
The irritated dinosaur dug his shoes into the ground and came to a grinding halt, throwing Mario over his head and onto the dirt in front of him.
“How can you tell me to stay out of this when I’m the one who’s been carrying your ass around this whole damn day!?”
“Geez, watch your language Yoshi.”
“I can say whatever the fuck I want! We’re completely out of food, we haven’t seen a body of water in miles, and I’m exhausted!”
“Yoshi, we’re all exhausted...”
“Exhausted from what, sitting!? Luigi is the one who’s been keeping up on his own, running alongside me, so he’s justified in being tired.”
“Ugghhh...” Mario groaned. “Don’t make this harder for us Yoshi, just stop complaining and hold out a little longer. The trail doesn’t go on for much longer, see!”
Mario pointed down the trail. To nobody’s surprise, the path became more overgrown and there was no end in sight.
Yoshi wiped his hands over his eyes to clear them of sweat. “Whatever, you can keep trudging aimlessly until you pass out; I’m going to find the closest point of civilization so we can rest and find some directions. It’s getting dark and we’re running out of time.”
Yoshi put his gigantic nose up into the air and started sniffing deeply, stepping in circles to find which smells were the strongest. Within a few moments, his eyes widened a bit.
“There’s a town just a mile or two that way. It’s faint, but there’s definitely something there.”
“Are you sure about that?”
“I’m a hundred percent certain. It doesn’t smell like humans, but there’s a high concentration of aromas that could only come from a civilized society.”
“If it’s not humans, then who lives there?”
Sniff Sniff Snifff
“It’s uh... horses? Or ponies? I think. Whatever there is, there’s lots of them. But this doesn’t add up, I can also smell a bakery, some kind of cider, and an oddly high number of apples. Probably an orchard. Actually, make that a reallllyyy big orchard.”
Yoshi was practically salivating at that thought of all the food they would find there.
Mario frowned. “I think you’re hallucinating buddy. You expect me to believe there’s a society of sentient horses over there who also know how to bake, plant their own orchards, and brew alcoholic cider? On top of that, how do we know they’ll be hospitable?”
“You know what, it doesn’t matter. I’m going. I’d rather chance it then waste any more time following your directions.”
Mario stopped to contemplate.
“Well if you insist, then lead the way. Saddle up and let’s go!”
“You’re kidding, right?”
“Come on Yoshi, we both know you can run so much faster than me.”
“Ugggggggggghhhhhhh....... Fine. Get on my back.”
What an ungrateful twat, I swear… He thought.
Mario hoped on his saddle. “Let’s-a-go!”
Why do I even carry this guy around? He’s done nothing for me...
“There! I can see a town in the valley!” Yoshi yelled with excitement. The three ran along the hills until they reached a sprawling apple orchard bordering the town, exactly as he had described.
Yoshi performed his fluttering jump to get up into a particularly large and fruitful tree. He landed on a branch and tossed a few apples down to the brothers before lassoing his tongue around groups of branches and gulping down a few dozen for himself.
All seemed well until a gruff, intimidating voice interrupted them.
“Hey! What do you think ya’ll are doing!?”
An angry looking red stallion stood in an aggressive stance, glaring at the dinosaur in the tree and shifting his gaze to the two mustached humans on the ground. Mac could tell instantly from their facial similarities that they must be brothers, but the gluttonous green creature in the tree perplexed him.
Luigi tried to speak but only shivered in nervousness, which caused the stallion to look even more irritated. He jabbed Mario, motioning for him to say something. Mario cleared his throat.
“We’re terribly sorry, but we got lost, and we haven’t had much to eat since early morning. Our friend here was especially worn down... Please understand, we don’t mean any trouble.”
Big Mac’s expression softened slightly as he studied the intruders. The strange dinosaur’s shoes were caked with mud, and all three of them looked rather weary. It was apparent they were telling the truth, or at least to some extent, but the intrusion still angered him.
“I’ll tell you what, you three come with me to the farmhouse and we’ll get this all figured out.”
“Thank you, kind pony.”
“Yeah yeah, don’t thank me yet. Applejack is still gonna be mighty upset when she hears about the tree you guys picked clean. Or, him at least... Whatever your pet thing is.”
“I’m not their pet...”
“Well ain’t that a surprise. Ah didn’t think he could talk.”
Yoshi rolled his eyes. He was used to people treating him like this, but it bothered him nonetheless.
The stallion pulled the front door to the small farmhouse open.
“Hey Applejack, have I got a surprise for you!”
An orange pony with a brown Stetson walked out of the adjoining room.
“Mother of Celestia, who are these people? And what in tarnation is that thing?”
“Hi there.” Yoshi casually waved, grinning at her.
Applejack still glared at him, and Yoshi put his hand down, biting his lip and glancing awkwardly to avoid her gaze.
“These guys were in the orchard chompin’ down some of our apples. Apparently they’re lost and haven’t had much to eat lately.”
Applejack continued studying them. “They look trustworthy to me; I don’t think they’re any trouble.”
Big Mac whispered into her ear. “No trouble? But they stripped clean one of our largest trees, sis. We’re already having financial troubles the way it is. I’m not saying they’re bad people but that’s a big loss on our hooves.”
“Mac, just let me handle this, alright?”
“I have every right to handle this too, and I say we can’t shrug this off yet.”
“Alright, now you’re just being cynical. I’m giving these boys a chance, and that’s final.”
Luigi and Yoshi stood nervously watching the two whisper arguing. Mario was the first to interrupt their muffled banter.
“If it isn’t too much to ask, do you think we could stay here for one night while we figure out how to get back home? We don’t have any of the local currency so I doubt we could stay at a motel.”
“Sorry to burst your bubble but we don’t have any spare bedrooms, and even if we did I still don’t want a bunch of strangers sleepin’ here when we have a filly in the house.”
“Oh...”
“Now wait, I wasn’t finished. We may not have room in the farmhouse but the barn ain’t exactly uncomfortable with all the hay layin’ around. I’ll gladly allow ya’ll to stay out there for tonight. As for tomorrow ah’ve got a few friends who I could ask for more extended housing. I’ll invite them over and see if any of them would be willing to take you in for a while. Ya’ll look like ok folks to me, wouldn’t want you to have to sleep on the ground outside.”
“Thank-a-you for the generous help!”
Applejack giggled. “Ha, your accent is funny.”
Applejack entered back into the farmhouse the next morning to find the trio snoring on a large bed of hay.
“Rise and shine ya’ll, we’ve got some breakfast prepared for ya in the kitchen!”
Yoshi instantly jolted up at the mention of food and pulled Mario and Luigi to their feet, smiling widely. Now somewhat awake, they followed Applejack back to the farmhouse, where they were greeted with the scent of warm, fresh baked apple pastries.
They each took their time as they enjoyed their pastries, being careful not to scarf them down too quickly. Even Yoshi refrained from overindulging out of respect, despite a deep desire to swallow the whole platter of delicious baked goods.
“We cannot thank you enough for your generosity.” Mario stated for the fifteenth time.
“Yeah yeah, shuddup and enjoy your food, ya varmints!”
Mario and Luigi frowned, taken aback by her comment. Applejack simply started laughing.
“You guys are too uptight. Personally I enjoy meeting new ponies- er, people once in a while. Just relax.”
“You didn’t seem this accepting of us last night...”
“We had an exhausting day yesterday too. I talked to Big Mac here and ah think he was just at the end of his patience for the day when he found you, much the same with me. Don’t take it personally.”
Finally, everybody finished eating and brought their plates to the sink.
“Alright, you three follow me. My friends are waiting just down the street. I’m a pony of my word, and we’re going to find ya’ll a proper place to stay.”
“I’ll sleep on the hay again if it means getting more of these delicious pastries!” Yoshi licked his lips, leaning over the table and drooling onto the large platter in the center of the table. Applejack eyed him with a deadpan expression, and he slowly retracted back to his seat in shame.
“Go ahead. We all had our share of them anyways.”
“Yay!” Yoshi snapped his tongue out and gulped down the entire plate in seconds.
The three followed Applejack out the door and down the road to where a small group of four ponies was waiting. A blue one appeared to have wings, while another two had unicorn horns sticking out of their heads. The fourth one, who was pink, had neither. They could hear mixed chatter between them as they approached. By the time they were within talking range, the group simmered down and a lavender unicorn walked forth.
“Good day, weary travelers. My name is Twilight Sparkle, and my friend Applejack told me about your little directional mishap.”
“Yeah... little...” Luigi spoke.
“Oh, shut up brother.”
“Yo, what are your names?” The rainbow maned pony interjected them.
“My name is Mario and this is my brother Luigi. We’re plumbers from the Mushroom Kingdom.”
The pink pony burst through the group. “And what about that super cool looking dinosaur thing over there?”
Pinkie Pie zipped forward and climbed on Yoshi’s shoulders, eyes bulging out as she looked into his.
“Hehe, your nose is gigantic! It’s like a balloon, except with nostrils! I bet you can smell things really good. What do I smell like? Tell me tell me tell me!”
Yoshi grinned sheepishly and took a few whiffs.
“Cupcakes. Really delicious cupcakes.”
“Aaawww, I was right! What do my friends smell like?”
“Come on Pinkie, knock it off!” Twilight demanded.
“Awwww....”
Yoshi felt slightly unsettled. “Um, Pinkie? That’s your name, right? Can you please leave me some space?”
Pinkie’s eyes lit up. “Wait a minute, open your mouth again.”
“Excuse me?”
“Aha!” Pinkie stuck her hoof into his mouth, grabbed his tongue and yanked it out several feet.
“Why is your tongue so long? That’s so neat-o!”
Rarity leaned over and whispered to Twilight. “Aren’t you going to stop her?”
“Haven’t you learned by now to just let her do her thing? I’m sure she’ll calm down after a few minutes.”
Pinkie continued rolling out his tongue until it was fully extended. Yoshi had trouble speaking at this point.
“Agh, Fhinkie, fhat’s as ffar as fhit goes.” Yoshi sputtered.
“Ooh, is that a saddle on your back?” She let go of his tongue and it immediately retracted into his mouth much like a tape measure.
“Yes. Hop on and maybe I can take you for a ride off the nearest cliff.”
Pinkie giggled. “Oh Yoshi, you’re so funny.”
“Pinkie, STOP IT! That’s enough.” Twilight yelled.
“Sorry...”
Pinkie trudged back to the group. Twilight sighed, and approached him.
“Sorry about that Yoshi. Sometimes our friend Pinkie just doesn’t know how to behave.”
“No worries...”
“Good. Now, let’s head over to my place and figure out some housing arrangements for you guys.”
“Sounds good to me.”
It didn’t take very long to settle on plans for them. Twilight Sparkle had a short conversation with the trio outside her home and determined it would be best for them to stay at the Golden Oaks library.
“Thank-a-you for letting us stay here. However can we repay you, kind purple pony?”
“Don’t worry about it, uh... I’m sorry, what’s your name again?”
“It’s-a Mario.”
“Right.”
Suddenly, a yellow pegasus pony hovered into view, looking rather timid at the sight of the brothers who were unknown to her.
“Hey Twilight, what’s happening here? Who are these people?” She squeaked.
She stopped mid-air when she noticed Yoshi, feeling a special connection the moment she saw him. He was unlike anything she had ever seen before.
“Oh my Celestia, he’s so cute!”
Fluttershy immediately hovered over to the chubby dinosaur and landed confidently in front of him.
“Does he have a name?”
“Yes, I do... My name is Yoshi.” He had a slightly squeaky voice.
“You can talk too?! Eeeeeeep!
Yoshi leaned closer to Twilight. “Is she always like this?”
“Actually no, she’s normally the exact opposite, but she loves animals and seeing new creatures gets her a bit excited.”
Fluttershy studied Yoshi intently.
“So Yoshi, what’s that big red thing on your back for?”
“It’s a saddle for riding on. Though most of the time I just carry junk underneath it; it’s actually quite handy.”
“Oh my gosh, can you give me a ride? Just a short one. Please?”
“Ummmm... Sure, why not?”
“Yay, thank you!”
There was a funny sound as she mounted his back.
“Stay safe, you two! Have fun!” Twilight waved.
Yoshi ran for what felt like an hour as they talked, learning all about each other and the differences between their worlds. He told her all about the evil doings of Bowser, and the adventures he had with Mario over the decades. Then she told him all about the villains she had faced with her friends, and how they were well known around the town for saving everypony so many times. There eventually came a point where fatigue set in. Yoshi stumbled a bit, and finally slowed to a stop.
“Whew, I’m exhausted. Is there a lake nearby where I can get a drink?”
“Of course, there’s one over there, right next to the forest.”
“Did you say forest?” He shivered. “Like, the Forest of Illusions?”
“The what?”
“It’s a big scary forest in the Mushroom Kingdom; Mario and I had to fight through there a long time ago. I still get shivers thinking about those angry caterpillars and lakes filled with big, spiky sea urchins… Getting poked by them is no fun...”
“I’m scared of forests too, but don’t worry Yoshi, I’ll be with you.”
Suddenly, Yoshi perked up.
“Did you hear that Fluttershy?”
“Hear what?”
“There’s something moving in those trees.”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.”
The ruffling in the bushes grew louder. A small green glow could be seen growing brighter. Suddenly Fluttershy screamed in fear as a Timberwolf charged out of the trees and into the open, growling hungrily and staring down the scared pegasus. Yoshi had never seen these creatures; they looked scarier than anything he had ever encountered in dinosaur land.
“Run!”
Fluttershy ran with him as fast as she could, tears dripping from her eyes as the air blasted against her face from the frantic sprint. Yoshi’s heart rate nearly doubled. They weaved through bushes and other obstacles until a set of tightly spaced trees blocked their path. They turned around, only to see the Timberwolf charging closer still. He realized there was no other option than to fight it.
“Fluttershy, stay back!”
Yoshi charged forward and head butted the Timberwolf of equal size, slamming into the side of its jaw and knocking it backwards. The monster immediately got back up, growling and trying to bite him, but he managed to hold it back just long enough to open his mouth. There was a pained yelp from the wooden enemy as it was snagged by a long red rope. Yoshi ensnared its torso with his strong, sticky tongue. In a scary display of force, Yoshi retracted his tongue with the Timberwolf still struggling, and opened his mouth as wide as he could.
Thump
The beast’s head was in his mouth, legs kicking wildly in an attempt to escape. Yoshi didn’t even seem fazed at this point; he slowly gulped while lifting his head, letting the wolf slide down his throat.
Fluttershy couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Yoshi was slowly but surely gulping down a thrashing wolf nearly his own size. Now knowing she was in the presence of something that could swallow her whole at any moment was incredibly unsettling.
Yoshi burped, now looking much more relaxed.
“So um, how did it taste?” Fluttershy whispered.
“Terrible. I think my throat has splinters now…” He groaned.
His eyes widened and he hacked up several chunks of wood.
“Maybe we could go to the pond near my cottage instead, where it’s safer...”
“Yeah, that sounds much better.”
Fluttershy flew faster than normal towards her cottage. She was grateful he had saved her, but after witnessing such an event, she couldn’t look at the cute dinosaur the same way. Thoughts of his snake-like tongue wrapping around her body and dragging her helplessly into his maw plagued her mind. She didn’t realize how fast she was flying.
Yoshi couldn’t keep up on foot, and he didn’t know where her cottage was. Eventually he had to rely on sniffing the air and following her scent. Something was wrong, but he didn’t know what it was. He finally caught up to her near the entrance to her cottage. She jumped slightly at his sudden appearance.
“Fluttershy, is everything okay?”
“Yes, everything is fine.” She insisted shakily.
“Fluttershy, you’ve been acting strange and avoiding me the entire way back…”
She prodded at the ground with her hoof nervously.
“Yoshi, I-I just... had no idea you were so... scary. You swallowed a Timberwolf like it was nothing. Only the nastiest monsters I’ve ever seen could do something like that!”
He looked at her with a perplexed expression.
“Is that was this is about?” He asked in a soft tone.
Fluttershy nodded, stepping back very slowly.
Yoshi began to realize how different things here must be in Equestria. He was an alien species to her, after all. Maybe Fluttershy wasn’t used to being around someone with the eating abilities he possessed. Nobody had ever been disturbed by it until now.
“But... I saved you. That Timberwolf would have shredded you to bits if I didn’t stop it.”
“Well, that’s true, but…”
She paused. He knew where this was going.
“But what? You’re afraid of me now because I could eat you whole in the blink of an eye if you rub me the wrong way?”
He immediately put on his best poker face, and prayed that Fluttershy could pick up on his sarcasm. Judging by her muffled “Eeep”, he realized it had probably made things worse. He sighed in annoyance.
“Fluttershy, I’ve only know you for an hour and you’ve already been a better friend than Mario ever has. What makes you think I would ever eat you?”
She took a deep breath, and finally approached him.
“I’m sorry… Please don’t hate me…”
Yoshi decided to approach the sensitive situation from a different angle.
“Here, let me show you something. Just stay still, and relax.”
He opened his mouth and slowly unrolled his tongue, letting it hang out in full display. He began twisting and twirling it with seemingly perfect control. Fluttershy was amazed. The dexterity he possessed was incredible. She stood in awe as he slowly pushed his tongue forward until it poked her in the navel. It was thick and slimy, and incredibly adhesive.
“See? There’s nothing to be afraid of. I only grab things that are enemies.”
He flicked his tongue around, rubbing it against her belly in circular motions.
“Hehehehehe!” Fluttershy started shivering from how much it tickled. It felt so... good. Almost too good. Her mind quickly filled with dirty thoughts she couldn’t unthink. It was like a switch flicked on in her head.
Yoshi retracted his tongue back into his mouth.
“Wait!” She protested rather brashly.
Yoshi looked at her with a confused stare.
“Pick me up.” She demanded.
“What?”
“Wrap your tongue around me, and pick me up. I want to see what it feels like, if you don’t mind...”
Yoshi was surprised at her sudden change in attitude.
“Well, if you insist.”
He fully extended his tongue and wrapped it around her waist twice, before lifting her body with any leverage he could get. The slightly aroused pegasus could feel the power of his tongue entangling her body, and in filled her with wonder. After a few moments, he set her down gently.
It wasn’t long before Yoshi’s massive, sensitive nose picked up on a rather alluring scent. It smelled… very female. All the subtle changes in her behavior were suddenly adding up.
“Fluttershy? Is that smell what I think it is?”
She grinned lecherously, leaning back and spreading her legs apart to reveal her dripping arousal to him.
“Have you ever eaten out a pony before?”
Yoshi was stunned. She closed her legs quickly.
“Come on; let’s go up to my bedroom where we have some privacy.”
