My guardian Phoenix
What am I?
Load Full StoryI awoke to the sound of rustling next to my head, looking over, I spotted something red with a golden trim. Noticing that my vision was slightly blurry, I reached up to rub my eyes. "Oh, you're awake. " I heard a soft female voice say from my left. Turning to look over at her, I realized my vision was still blurry. I Reached up to once again rub my eyes, but before I could, something landed on my lap softly. Looking down, I saw what appeared to be a pair of glasses. Slipping them on, my vision cleared. Looking up, I stared, dumbfounded at the creature before me. Feathered wings, yellow fur, pink mane, pink tail, big, bright blue eyes, and a small smile on its muzzle.
"Hello" it said, in that same soft tone. "H-hi" I managed to stammer out. Something about it just screamed 'abnormal' to me. Although I'm not sure why. Examining the room I was in, I saw a small window in front of me, a closet to my right, a bookshelf full of books, and a bed-side table. On said table, was a gorgeous looking red bird, with a crown of golden feathers. Lifting it's head, it looked straight at me with a pair of amber eyes. It chirped softly before leaning down and preening is left wing. I couldn't help but stare at it. "Um, excuse me" the soft voice said next to me. Turning to look at her, she seemed to bristle slightly. "Yes?" I asked.
"How is your head feeling, i-if you don't mind me asking." I thought about this for a second, trying to think of a reason something would be wrong with my head. Nothing came to me however, my head wasn't in any pain though. "Fine, I guess." I answered simply, not sure what else to say. She seemed to relax at this, if only slightly. "Ok, good. Um, if you don't mind, would you be able to tell me what you are?" My mind drew a blank at this, what I am? I couldn't think of an answer. "If you don't want to answer that's fine, I don't want to pressure you or anything."
"It's fine, I just, don't know."
"You don't know?"
"I can't remember."
"Oh that's terrible, you poor thing."
It felt a little silly being talked to like that, but I guess it wasn't unpleasant. But after thinking about it, I realized I couldn't remember anything. The bird must've felt my distress, because it nuzzled my cheek, cooing softly. I reached over and rubbed my hand over its crown in silent thanks.
"Do you remember your name?" She asked, I tried to think, but was stopped by a twinge of pain behind my eyes, making me flinch. I rubbed my temples to try and alleviate some of the pain, but it only seemed to make it worse. "Ahh, damn it." I hissed through clenched teeth. "What's wrong?!" She asked worriedly. "It's...my head." I said, as another wave of pain washed over me, making me flinch. "It... really hurts trying to think." I said, the bird squawking in distress at my pain.
Suddenly, the pain left, replaced by dizzying nausea. The bird pushed it's head into my chest, coaxing me to lay down. It curled around my head protectively, laying it's head on my neck as I tried not to pass out. My eyes began to drift shut as my consciousness started fading despite my efforts. Right before I went out though, I heard a soft, motherly voice ring in my mind.
"I'll keep you safe, I promise."
