Speaking Up

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

I am not the kind of girl

Who should be rudely barging in

On a white veil occasion

But you are not the kind of boy

Who should be marrying the wrong girl

Rainbow sneaked into the church through one of the side doors, her rainbow mane hidden under a hoodie. Stealthily sneaking behind one of the pews, she manage to avoid the church master’s gaze. 'Phew, first obstacle crossed.' Taking in a deep breath, Rainbow snuck round to the nearest door. Seeing as the door was already open a crack, Rainbow pushed just enough to let her see into the room. What she saw made her heart ache. The one whom she had a connection with, the ones whom she invested her days in, the one who was her sun and moon… the one…

I sneak in and see your friends

And her snotty little family

All dressed in pastel

And she is yelling at a bridesmaid

Somewhere back inside a room

Wearing a gown shaped like a pastry

Soarin', looking smart as ever, and more handsome than ever in a tuxedo, Rainbow's heart melted, yet yearned to be in Spitfire's place. Even with his Wonderbolt friends surrounding him, he seems a little … unsure?…nervous?…worried? Even a little…upset? Rainbow had a glimmer of hope, seeing him shun the congrats that his friends were showering upon him. Suddenly, a shout was heard and snagged Rainbow's attention. Spitfire, as Rainbow saw, and winced at, was wearing a puffy, snow white wedding gown. With her fiery hair, Rainbow thought, she looks more like a moldy orange.

This is

Surely not what you thought it would be

I lose myself in a daydream

Where I stand and say

Where was the one whom Rainbow knew? The jokey one, the rays of sunshine, the one who would make her laugh even when she was sad. Was she really going to lose him forever? If only there was a way out of this…

Don't say yes, run away now

I'll meet you when you're out

Of the church at the back door

Does he know I'm here? Does he want this? Does he still remember me? I hope, silently slipping her hoof into the room and swinging the door so that the crack was shut, she flew out of the church by the back door. Little did she know that she had slipped, showing the tip of her light blue hoof to everyone in the room, yet no-one really saw it, all but one. "Rainbow…" Soarin' mumbled, "if only she knew…"

Don't wait or say a single vow

You need to hear me out

And they said "speak now"

Rainbow turned her head as the church bells are starting to ring. She slipped into the throngs of people, slid her hoodie hood over her rainbow hair, and settled herself behind a side curtain, with a view of everything. Her hopes dropped as she saw Soarin' grinning madly, as though he wanted the marriage.

Fond gestures are exchanged

And the organ starts to play

A song that sounds like a deathmarch

And I am hiding in the curtains

It seems that I was uninvited

By your lovely bride-to-be

Rainbow was itching to escape, but to her utter dismay, the organ started playing the wedding march. Sighing, she settled herself down, careful not to give herself away, and watch the wedding procession to take place.

She floats down the aisle

Like a pageant queen.

But I know you wish it was me

You wish it was me (Don't cha?)

Watching Spitfire sashaying down the aisle, her hair let down instead of standing up with gel. Rainbow closed her eyes as the preacher droned on about what they were here for. 'Yeah, yeah, just get on with it' Rainbow muttered under her breath. Soarin' on the other hand, was forced to smile, while is gaze swept over everyone's mane, hoping for that familiar shade of rainbow that seemed to light up his life whenever it came. Nope, zip nada, nothing, shoulders drooping, he sighed and turned to Spitfire.

Don't say yes, run away now

I'll meet you when you're out

Of the church at the back door

Don't wait or say a single vow

You need to hear me out

And they said "speak now"

Don't say yes, run away now

I'll meet you when you're out

Of the church at the back door

Don't wait or say a single vow

Your time is running out

And they said, "speak now"

Oh Oh Oh!

I hear the preacher say

"Speak now or forever hold your peace"

There's the silence, there's my last chance

I stand up with shaking hands

All eyes on me

Horrified looks from

Everyone in the room

But I'm only looking at you.

Rainbow's eyes flashed open at that mention, swiftly stepped out from behind of that curtain, and stood, tall as she can, while letting the glances of anger go to her, she lifted her head, slightly, just to catch Soarin' surprised face. She held his gaze for a moment, letting her eyes well with tears, before turning away and walking out of the church, letting her hood fall, revealing her mane, and her bunched up tail from under her hoodie, hearing the gasps and murmurs around her, before leaving the church.

I am not the kind of girl

Who should be rudely barging in

On a white veil occasion

But you are not the kind of boy

Who should be marrying the wrong girl!

Zooming to the highest cloud that she could see, she landed softly on it, and lay down.

So don't say yes, run away now

I'll meet you when you're out

Of the church at the back door

A commotion is forming in the church underneath. Soaring tore off his tie, and started heading for the exit. Spitfire was behind him, "You can't be leaving because of her! We had an agreement! To stay in the Wonderbolts, you HAVE to follow my commands! I CAN FIRE YOU!"

"Fire me for all I want, for it is NOT my dream!" Soarin' yelled back, leaving a speechless Spitfire behind.

Don't wait or say a single vow

You need to hear me out

And they said, "speak now!"

Rainbow muttered, why? I thought… grr, I shan't believe in anyone else from today onwards…" Rainbow slowly shut her eyes, and let a solitary tear fall…

And you say

Let's run away now

I'll meet you when I'm out

Of my tux at the back door

Where is she? I really want to apologize for what I did… Soarin' reached the entrance, leaving Spitfire surrounded by family members and newspaper reporters. Lifting his hoof to rub his forehead, he felt something wet land on him hoof. Hmmm? Soarin' looked up, and decided to investigate, he knew it was her, it could only be her. Catching sight of the rainbow tail, he took a deep breath, and decided to go with with he knew.

Baby, I didn't say my vows

So glad you were around when they said

Speak Now

"Hey." Soarin' started, and paused, watching Rainbow stiffen. He inhaled, "I'msosorryRainbowit'scosIhadanagreementwithSpitfiresoIneedtodoeverythingthatshetellsmetodoinordertocontinuebeinginthatgroupandIOOF" Soarin' stopped, not because he had nothing else to say, but because he felt a fuzzy warmth engulf him. He looked down at Rainbow's disheveled mane, he wondered how he could ever agree with Spitfire's plan…… He knew where his heart belongs now, and he plans to keep it there.
