"Sweep sweep sweep sweep," Twilight said, rocking her head back and forth with the dull thumping of the music.
Rainbow groaned. "Twilight."
"Sweep sweep sweep sweep," Twilight continued.
"Twilight!" Rainbow finally yelled.
Twilight jerked upright and stopped in place, Rainbow's voice jarring her out of her reverie. "Huh? What?"
"I think we're done sweeping," Rainbow said flatly. She motioned down towards the spotless floor beneath their hooves. Twilight looked around to see Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy had stopped with their sweeping, and Rainbow and Applejack were looking at her with raised eyebrows.
"Oh... I guess I got a little carried away," Twilight said, glancing at the broom in her magical grasp. After such an intense session of sweeping with all of her friends, the thought of having to put the broom up and move onto something else sent a sudden wave of anxiety through her for some reason. Twilight leaned down close to the floor, inspecting it to try and find any other dust particles or errant dirt she might have missed in the last half hour of sweeping. To her disappointment, she couldn't find any.
Twilight looked to her friends with a sheepish smile. "There might be some more sweeping we could to get this ingrained dust in the floor, don't you think?"
"Twilight, we've been sweeping forever. I think it's good," Rainbow said with a roll of her eyes.
Twilight perked up off the floor with a sudden thought. "Oh! The more we clean off and move in furniture, the more dust is going to start falling off again. That means we need to keep sweeping!" she said in an excited tone.
"Uh... we've gotta move that stuff in first, sugarcube," Applejack added. "I think we ought'a move onto somethin' else for now. This place's gotta be open by tonight, remember?"
"Oh... right." Twilight moved her broom over to the wall where the others had placed theirs. Twilight bit her lip and felt her anxious at the thought of letting the broom out of her magical grip. Just before she let it fall against the wall, Twilight wrapped the other three brooms in her magical grip as well, floating them over beside her.
"Twilight, what are you doing?" Rainbow asked, her eyebrow raising even higher at her friend's odd actions.
"Well we don't want these in our way, do we? I'll just take all of them back to the storage room so we can start on something else," Twilight said, her tone growing a bit frantic.
"If you say so, I guess," Applejack said. "We're gonna go help Pinkie Pie with some of the boxes."
"Alright! See you in a minute!" Twilight said, quickly spinning towards the storeroom and trotting off. Applejack and Rainbow exchanged a few confused glances, accompanied by Rainbow spinning her hoof in a circle beside her head.
Twilight swept the curtain aside and trotted into the storeroom, finally letting the shudder she'd been holding take control of her body. She felt the weight of the brooms in her magical grasp and let out a contented sigh at the feeling. She'd never been so intimate with a broom before; all she'd ever used before this were feather dusters and maybe the occasional cheap broom for a few minutes at a time. This was something entirely different.
Twilight couldn't bring herself to set the brooms down anywhere as she looked over each of them. She admired the craftsmanship, as they were obvious all made by hoof, each sanded down to a smooth shine in the soft storeroom light. Twilight walked out of the storeroom with a contented smile on her face. All the girls turned to look at her as soon as she came in.
"Twi, are you alright?" Applejack asked.
Twilight cleared her throat, still feeling a little ragged. "Of course. Why wouldn't I be?" she said, trying to put on her best innocent smile.
"You were in there for like forever," Rainbow added. "How long does it take to put up a few brooms?"
"Oh, well..." Twilight fell to her haunches and rubbed the back of her neck with her hoof. "I just had to... organize some of the supplies back there! That's it. Just some stuff that was out of order."
"But there are only a few empty boxes and crates back there," Fluttershy said.
Twilight gave them a sheepish smile. "You know how boxes are: always falling over and getting dirty. I just needed to straighten them up a little."
Applejack raised an eyebrow at her. "If you say s--"
Twilight stood up and took a deep breath, ready to put this behind her and start work on the new boutique again. "Okay, so what should we do next?"
The rest of the girls stood completely still as their eyes were drawn to the spot Twilight just got up from. Twilight had definitely just left a puddle of fluids on the concrete underneath her.
