My life isn’t normal for most people but for my sister and I, it is the most normal life we’ll ever get. My sister and I are called the death Twins. My sister’s call sign is “Demo.” Mine is “Grim Reaper.” My sister is the demolition expert while I’m the sniper. Our president was a Nazi Sleeper cell. After he “tried” to kill off the minorities, many people of different background’s joined together to form a rebellion to fight against our president. Our parents are one of them. I told my parents that when we are old enough we will join too. But that all changed on that fateful night. The weather was nice. No attacks on our family and no Nazi’s, Or so I thought. My sister and I were waiting for my parents to come home. My parents were called to lead an attack downtown against the president’s troops. I saw a car light. The car stopped in front of our house. My heart started to beat faster. I saw two dark figures walk to the door. My sister walked to the door.
“Yes! Mom and Dad are home,” I thought.
I quickly unlocked the door and flinged the door open. I learned not to smile that much cause our parents could be killed at any second .
My heart stopped and I froze. I stared at the two people standing in front of me, General Miller and Father Hornsby.
“NO,” My sister yelled and then ran to her room and shut the door.
I took a deep breath,” OK, Alonzo calm down. Be strong for your sister. Even though she’s older. I’m the man of the house now.” I thought.
“Please, Come in General Miller and Father Hornsby.” I said.
They both nodded and walked in. I showed them to the living room. Which was converted to the “War room” when my parents became captains in the rebellion.
“Coffee?” I asked the General Miller and Father Hornsby.
They nodded and I walked to start to coffee pot.
“Cream or sugar?”I asked from the kitchen.
“Both,” they both responded.
It didn’t take the coffee long to make. I brought the coffee to them and I sat down. They both grabbed a cup.
“What are the details?”I asked them.
Father Hornsby spit his coffee back into his cup. I saw a grin form on the General’s face.
“He was right. You are military material. Straight to the point, no questions asked. I like that. You would make an excellent leader.” General said.
“I just do what I’m told.” I told the general trying not to cry.
“Your mom and dad were holding a building on Commerce Street, when they were surrounded by German special forces. They had found important Intel on the enemies and were trying to hold out until transport came, but it never came. The transport was ambushed and taken out. Your parents realized not all of them would make it out alive. Only three people were alive in the building. They gave a fresh recruit the Intel and told him to make a run for The secondary LZ. They covered his six and held back the Germans while he ran to the LZ. We lost transmission from them. They died a honorable death. When we find their bodies they’ll be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston.” The general said.
I Tried not to cry but I couldn’t hold it back. I started to cry softly but it got louder until I was sobbing.
Father Hornsby got up and stood next to me,” Come here.” he told me.
I got up and hugged him and continued to sob.
“It’s okay, they’re in a better place now. A place of happiness.”
“I Know.” I said still somewhat still crying.
I eventually stopped crying and wiped my eyes that were red due to all the crying.
The general got up and brought out an envelope from his coat pocket.
“They told me to give this to you if they met their demise.” The General told me.
He gave me the envelope. I grabbed it and opened it. Inside was a letter and two keys. I opened the letter and read it.
Dear Alonzo and Dolores,
If you are reading this,we meet our fate. Please don’t feel too sad. We are in a better place now. We tried our best to keep the promise we made to you and your sister. But fate had a different idea. She’s a cunning one. In the envelope we gave you and your sister two keys. Each key has your guys names and they unlock a safe on base that have your gear and guns that we were going to give to you when you both turned eighteen. But due to the unfortunate events that have unfolded, you and your sister will be put into a special squad in the Rebellion that uses only kids over the age of thirteen. They have a special training designed for kids. Your guns are the Barrett M99, S&W Model 868, and the Remington 870 Shotgun. Your sister’s guns are the Bison, Colt MEU, and the M32 MGL(Multiple Grenade Launcher.) Please don’t let our deaths mean nothing.
Love,
Mom and Dad
I Started to cry again. I felt lost and alone. I wanted to just give up and die. Then I remembered that my sister needed me. She’s unstable with her emotions. I took a deep breath and put the letter back in its envelope. I sat down and drank my coffee.
“We’ll be back tomorrow to talk about the burial arrangements and If you guys want to live somewhere else and also pick up the stuff your parents left for you guys, we can take care of that tomorrow.
With that the General and Father Hornsby got up and walked themselves to the door. They walked to their car and left. I washed the dishes and cleaned my room. My room wasn’t too big. It was the right size for me. My room was also straight across from my sister’s. I walked to my desk and grabbed my Samsung S4 and my Bose noise cancellation headphones. I played my relax playlist which consisted of Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Garth Brooks, Dmitri Vegas & Like Mike, and Rodney Atkins. I Barely got any sleep that night. I cried myself to sleep. Dolores woke me up. I looked to my left to see my clock. It read 9:30 A.M.
“I guess we slept in.” I thought.
“Yes we did.”
“What?” I asked my sister confused.
“You said it out loud.”
“Oh” I responded.
I got changed into my chino shorts, blue shirt, and white converse. It’s what I would normally wear. I walked out of my room. It was dead quiet. Which isn’t normal. My heart started to beat faster. I feared the worst. I ran down stairs and saw my sister with her heads phones making breakfast. She turned towards me and saw me.
“Oh, Good morning sleepyhead,” she said cracking eggs into a bowl.
She and I are cookers. I’m more then she is. she likes to make cakes and sweets more. I’m more of the Bar-B-Que type of person. I prefer to make ribs, brisket, chicken, burgers, hot dogs, and other stuff you can make on the grill even though burgers and hot dog aren’t considered Bar-B-Que by some people.
“Oh, yeah. Good morning.” I said as I walked off to my parents safe.
They kept important papers, their will, and about two thousand dollars just in case for emergencies. I guess this would be considered an emergency I got the papers and put them in my backpack and packed my dad’s prized 8-inch 44 magnum revolver. Most people are encouraged to carry a pistol on them just in case of a surprise attack by the president’s army. I also grabbed my mom’s 1911 for my sister. its a scary time for people right now. I walked to the kitchen after packing some extra stuff in my backpack and my sisters. Dolores finished making breakfast. She sat down to eat.
“It’s chilaquiles. Your plate is on the stove,” she said picking up her food about to eat it.
I gave her backpack to her. I walked to the stove and smelled it.
“You always make better chilaquiles then I could.’
‘Thank you,” Dolores responded.
AN HOUR LATER
There was a knock on the door. I peaked around the corner from the kitchen to she who was knocking. I saw the general’s jeep outside.
‘Dolores, the general is here,” I yelled .
I walked to the door and unlocked it and opened it.
“ Good morning General,” I said.
“You too.”
Dolores walked to the door.
“Ready to go?” General asked.
We both nodded and followed the general. I sat shotgun. The car ride was filled of no noise from any of us. It was extremely awkward. We drove up to a three story building that was the base for the rebellion. We walked inside. It was cold and quiet. We walked to security. They let us pass without getting checked. Whenever we passed somebody they stopped what they were doing and looked at us with sadness in their eyes and some even with happiness. The general could see I was getting stressed out and nervous.
“ Your parents were famous in the rebellion. They were called the Grim reapers. They were furious and brutal in battle,” the general told us.
“Awesome,” Delores said.
We walked to the war room to talk about my parent’s death and burial arrangements. We walked in and everybody got up and saluted the general. After he saluted them back they saw us and their seriousness disappeared and I saw some tears coming from some of them. They walked to us and shook our hands. They told us that they were sorry for our loss. Our parent’s death was specially sad because my parents were the only adults that still had family and or kids after the first attack. Most of them were killed in the bombing. Since the general was a childhood friend of our parents we automatically joined the rebellion. It was our parent’s idea. We agreed to it.
“Can we get started?” I asked everybody.
After an hour of talking we finished. The general treated us to the cafeteria in the building. The building was the old court house downtown. The basement was converted to a cafeteria. The burial will be in three weeks at an cemetery on the south side. Our parents were form the south side. My mom went to South San while my dad went to Holmes.
The general took us home after we ate. Dolores and I spent the rest of the day in our rooms packing. we agreed to move out of this house because we have no need for it. We packed our clothes, phone, headphones, family pictures and our weapons that our parents left us. We also packed some of our parent’s valuables to remember them by. My sister made sure I packed everything that is my little pony related. She and I are huge fans of it. Before the battle against the president’s army I would be made fun of for liking the show, but now all we want is to survive and end the presidents transition to a dictatorship rule.
DAY OF BURIAL
We went to the rosary and I almost fell asleep during the Hail Mary’s. It was sad but Dolores sang pinkie Pie’s song smile smile smile. She had to change some words of course. The general drove us to the cemetery. It was like any other military burial. Three gun shots were fired. They gave us an American flag. Almost the whole rebellion attended. They all saluted when our parents were being put into the ground. My sister and I put some dirt on their coffin. The squad my sister and I were going to lead went to the burial too. After wards we ate at a Luby’s. They closed up the Luby’s to civilians. We took up the whole restaurant. It was weird. Dolores and I sat with our team. They were John,Yu,Nikita, and Neema. We food was okay.
I can’t wait for what tomorrow’s breakfast is going to be.” I said randomly.
Little did I know that was going to be my last human meal I would ever have. We all said our good byes and we walked to the general’s jeep. We drove back to the general’s house on the outskirts of San Antonio.
We were almost there when all of the tires blew out. of the tires blew.
“Dammit!” The general yelled.
I could feel something was off. Like something very bad was going to happen. I grabbed my shotgun and gave Dolores her bison and we got it ready. I slowed my breath to hear clearly. I heard some rustling in the trees next to us.
“Three o’ clock!” I yelled, but I was too late.
A flash bang went off. We were blinded for a few seconds. All I heard was a nerve wrecking high pitched ring. It was becoming unbearable. When I opened my eyes I could only see whiteness. But my vision cleared up and I saw the general knelling on the ground. A tall and well built light skinned man putting a gun to his head.
“Tell us where they are!” The man yelled.
Dolores was about to shoot the man put I put my hand on the top of her gun.
“What would mom and dad think if we died out of anger,” I whispered.
She nodded in agreement. We watched for a few more minutes. The tall man seemed to get impatient with the general. The man kicked the general to the ground and started to kick him.
“ Tell me where they are old man!” The man yelled as he kicked the general.
The general looked at us and nodded. I knew what he wanted us to do. I grabbed my gun from the jeep quietly. I gave Dolores the M136 AT4 that the general for unknown reason kept in his jeep.
“You know the plan. On my mark.” I whispered.
I slowly and quietly pulled the bolt on my gun and aimed at the general’s head. He said if we were ever captured, he wanted us to shoot him. He said he was way too valuable and had too much information just to be put in the enemies hands.
“3, 2, MARK!” I yelled.
I pulled the trigger and time seemed to slow down. I slowly felt the gears in the gun move and then I felt the recoil of the M99. She saw the bullet exit the gun and hit the general’s head. Bits of flesh, skull and brains flew out of the general’s head where the bullet made a hole.
‘NO, Kill them,!” The light skinned man yelled to his comrades.
When Dolores heard the man yell, she aimed for his comrades that were next to each other smiling.
Dolores chuckled and shot the missile,” Idiots. You should never be too close to each other on the battlefield. You’ll get hit.” Dolores said after watching the comrades blow up, body parts going everywhere.
She’s somewhat sadistic. I try my best to not let her go all out psycho and sadistic. I knew she had some type of disorder but I never told my parents. It got worse when she got in a fight with another teen at the academy. He was another leader for a team. She wouldn’t stop laughing as she punched the guy on the ground. She almost killed him. The doctor said if she kept punching she would have broken his skull and killed him. I asked the doctor to keep quiet about it.
“Calm down.” I told Dolores as I waved my hands in her face.
Her smile slowly disappeared from her face and a grin replaced it. I heard a car door open. Dolores and I slowly turned around to see a tall muscular man wearing body armor with a gas mask walk out of the hummer carrying a Minigun.
“Oh god, THATS A MINGUN. RUN BACK TO THE JEEP!” I yelled to Dolores.
She and I ran as fast as we could. We threw our guns into the back. On our way back I grabbed his revolver and his dog tag. I turned the key and the jeep roared to life. I shifted the gear and I stomped my foot on the gas peddle and we raced away. I looked back and saw the man talking on a radio.
“Shoot. Dolores we might we some company.” I told her.
“K.”
Dolores reached into the back and grabbed her gun and checked her bag with her gear.
“Okay, five mags, and sixty-four rounds each. So that’s three hundred and twenty-two bullets. That should be enough.” Dolores said as she counted her magazines and then put a magazine on her gun and pulled back the charging handle.
The charging handle was wrapped with the pride colors. She always like females but she doubted she would ever find somebody that would accept her with her disorder.
I looked in the rear view mirror and saw six black SUVS following us. They were catching up fast.
“We have company”
“K.” Dolores responded.
Dolores climbed into the back and leaned out the left side window. She started to fire upon the SUVS. Soon people from the car lowered their windows and returned fire. We were in a bad car for a gun fight since there was just about no protection against bullets.
“TAKING A SHARP RIGHT TURN!” I yelled over the gun fire.
Dolores held onto the door as I took the turn. I took the highway.
“Maybe, we can lose then in the hill country.” I thought.
I thought about it for a second then I made up my mind.
“Gonna try lose them in the hill country!” I yelled over the gunfire.
She nodded. She went back to hold the men back. Dolores took out four of the cars, Delores was on her last mag.
“Last mag!”
“OK!” I responded over the gun fire.
Out of nowhere the jeep jerked forwards. One of the SUVS rammed into us.
‘Do you still have a grenade?” Dolores asked looking though my bag.
“Yeah, in the side pouch.”
Dolores turned my plate carrier to its side and found my grenade pouch. She opened it and pulled out my last grenade.
“Get me closer to the one ramming us!” Delores asked sticking her head out of the gunner’s hole where a 50 cal would go.
I slowly released my foot on the gas peddle only for the car to ram us again. Dolores had a very strong throwing arm. She pulled the pin out of the grenade and threw it. It broke right through the window. I looked in the rear view mirror to see the guy screaming and fumbling to get the grenade. He found it but it was too late. The guy’s body parts started to rip off him. I could see the shear terror on his face. Last I saw the color in his eyes showed he was alive. It disappeared when the grenade blew off his head and sent it flying to the trunk and slamming in the window of the trunk leaving brain parts and blood over the window. The car started to zig zag. Then the body fell onto the wheel which cause the car to take a sharp turn left and flip over. The car next to it almost got hit by the flipping car. I breathed in the nice hill country air. Little did I know that would be the last time I would smell it.
“RPG!” Dolores yelled as she jumped into the front seat.
I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a guy from the car behind us sticking out of the passenger window with an rpg. Before I could react the guy shot at us. He missed us and I saw the rocket explode in the front left side of the jeep. My door blew off. I grabbed onto the frame of the jeep as I dangled out on the side of the jeep. Delores grabbed onto the wheel and tried to straightened to jeep. My pupils grew two sizes when I saw the man put another rocket into the rpg.
“HE’S LOADING ANOTHER ROCKET, GIVE MY THE GENERAL’S GUN!” I yelled tightening my grip on the jeeps frame.
“WHERE IS IT?”
“IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT!” I yelled back.
She pulled the lever that locked the glove compartment in place. She opened the compartment and pulled out the general’s Colt Anaconda.
“Take him out.” Dolores said handing me the gun while keeping the jeep steady.
I grabbed the gun and pulled the hammer back and aimed it at the driver. The car had clear windows. It was clear enough for me to notice he had stupidly put a grenade on the top of his plate carrier. I aimed for it and took a deep breath to steady my aim. I pulled the trigger. I felt resistance in the trigger. The hammer moved forward and hit the primer that caused an ignition that fired the bullet. The bullet broke through the window and hit the grenade. It blew up and took the drive and the passenger with it. The car exploded from the inside which caused the car to jump in the air and spin out of control to the grass. I pulled myself into the jeep again. I let out a huge sigh.
“I CAN’T BELIEVE WE survived that...,” Dolores said when she remembered how we escaped the men in the first place.
“He won’t be forgotten.” I said as I put the general’s dog tag on the rear view mirror.
ALONZO!” Dolores yelled as she slammed her hands onto the dash board.
I looked up in a hurry fearing more of the president’s men. But no, it was a barricade made by the rebellion when the rebellion first started and after the first attack and bombing. I slammed my foot on the breaks. We were still coming in too fast. I turned the steering wheel left as fast as I could. I eyes pupils got wide again. I was driving straight for a cliff that led to a rocky bottom. The jeep went off the cliff and went airborne. While we were airborne I looked at my sister and mouthed “I’m Sorry.”
The jeep started to aim downwards. Then the unbelievable happened. A white light appeared on the bottom and got brighter and brighter as we got closer. I pushed myself away from the wheel to lessen the impact when we crashed when my head would hit the steering wheel. I closed my eyes preparing for the impact and maybe sudden death. But it never came. We were airborne in a black tunnel. Then I saw light at the end of the tunnel. I prepared for the impact but we we came out of the tunnel. we were speeding fast through a forest. I tried to avoid hitting tress but luckily the tress weren’t that big so when we hit them the jeep just broke them . But it didn’t slow us at all. Dolores was screaming at the top of her lungs. I wanted to scream too but if I let go of the steering wheel we might crash head on onto a big tree and die on impact. I saw the forest was about to end
“SEAT BELT!” I yelled
Dolores quickly put on her seat belt, but was having trouble doing so because the jeep was swerving. I also put on my seat belt as best as I could. When we came out of the forest ,I saw us head for a big tree.
“Oh god.” I thought.
I slammed my foot on to the metal break petal. Dolores and I jerked forward. We weren’t slowing down fast enough. I turn the steering wheel left as fast as my arms could move. *THUD. We crashed into the tree pretty hard. Hard enough to leave a huge crack in the tree. We crashed on the right side of the jeep. Delores and I headbutted when we crashed. I shook it off. I unbuckled and jumped outside of the jeep. I landed of soft green grass. It was still damp from rain. I felt a cool breeze that reminded me of the hill country back home. I grabbed my gear bag from the back and threw it on the floor in front of the jeep. I got on my knees in front of the bag and unzipped it. I pulled out my ghillie suit. I got up and and stared at it.
“Who are you?” I heard somebody say from behind me.
I froze in place. I started to go for my pistol but I stopped.
Could be a civilian or friendly,? I thought
I took a deep breath and turned around. When I turned around I dropped my ghillie suit. The person or should I say dragon also dropped his apple that he was eating.
“Uhhhhhhhh, is that spike from my little pony?” I mumbled on the verge of screaming.
“TWILIGHT!” Spike called out to nobody.
‘Yes,spike?” Somebody else answered. It was more feminine.
“Human’s aren’t real, right?” Spike asked somebody else with concern in his voice while keeping his eyes on me.
“Yeah.” The voice answered getting a lot closer.
The voice was about a few feet away when I saw where the voice was coming from. I saw her. She wore a purple and pink flannel skirt, a pink purplish button up short sleeve shirt, a pink and purple star medallion, and a black vest. She also had a bracelet with the elements of harmony on them. She was the anthropomorphic version of twilight sparkle.
She saw me and froze. We both stared at each other for the longest time. She was older then she was on the show. Spike was a teenager. Which meant that the CMC and other fillies were teenagers too.
“Impossible.” Twilight and I both said right before we both fainted.
