A Dazzling Vacation
Stop waking Me Up
Previous ChapterNext ChapterAria was woken up by kicking later that night. She looked at the clock on the dresser and it read in bold green blocky numbers 11:56. Aria sighed and then tried to go back to sleep but the kicking didn't stop, it grew worse. She laid there for a few more minutes, she looked over at Adagio who was sleeping soundly in the other bed. She flipped over onto her right side and shook Sonata with her left hand to try and wake her up. It didn't work. She started gently but eventually it became more rough because Sonata wouldn't wake up.
"Sonata." Aria whispered as she continued shaking her. Sonata didn't reply and Aria began shaking her with both hands.
"Sonata wake up." Aria whispered again, this time a little bit more loudly than the last. She also got closer to her ear this time.
"Is it seriously morning already?" Sonata mumbled tiredly. She rolled over so she wasn't facing Aria and tried to go back to a deep sleep but Aria wouldn't stop shaking her.
"No but you need to wake up." Aria answered. She stopped shaking Sonata as Sonata rolled back over and opened one eye to look at her.
"Why?" She asked again.
"Because you keep kicking me and you need to stop it." Aria answered as she explained to Sonata why she had woken her up.
"Sorry I can't help it." Sonata said as she closed her eye and rolled back over to go back to sleep.
"Just move over a little bit." Aria said. Sonata moved over and Aria went back to sleep.
Aria was wakened once again about an hour later. This time it wasn't due to kicking though, someone was shaking her awake. Without moving she opened her eyes to see who was shaking her, to her disappointment, it was Sonata.
"What is it and why do you keep waking me up?" Aria asked flatly, she didn't really like being disturbed when she was sleeping and this was already the second time tonight that Sonata had waken her up, this time it was on purpose though.
"I h-had a bad dream." Sonata answered quietly
"What am I supposed to do about that?" Aria asked again. This time more flatly and with more of an edge to her voice than the last time.
Aria felt Sonata cringe slightly at the sound of her voice and she suddenly felt a wave of guilt. She didn't know why she did it but she found herself rolling over to face Sonata who was twiddling her thumbs nervously.
"C-can you help me go back to sleep?" Sonata asked nervously without making eye contact with Aria.
"No way." Aria stated flatly, once again she felt this wave of guilt after she'd said that.
"P-please Ari. I can't go back to sleep." Sonata pleaded. She gently but cautiously put her hand on Aria's hand which was resting beside her on the bed. Unusually Aria let Sonata keep her hand there, mainly due to the warmth of it.
"Ugh. Fine! Stop calling me that!" Aria exclaimed, "But this better not take all night." she finished.
"It won't. I promise. Ok." Sonata said. She laid down in the bed and tried to come closer to Aria, but as usual, Aria shoved her away.
"Nope we are not doing that. I'll just lay here with you until you fall asleep." Aria stated once she had pushed Sonata a little ways away.
"Please Ari. Can't I just cuddle with you for once?" Sonata asked, Aria though she seen a slight glimpse of tears in the corners of Sonata's eyes and she felt guilty again.
"Ok fine. But when I say to stop we stop ok. I also told you to stop calling me that." Aria explained.
"Ok." Sonata said as she snuggled up next to Aria. Aria liked it unusually.
Aria closed her eyes as Sonata got comfortable and was about to drift off to sleep when she heard Sonata's voice again.
"Aria. Can I ask you something?" Sonata asked quietly.
"What." Aria answered without opening her eyes.
"How come you don't like being called Ari?" Sonata asked again.
"Because I just don't ok." Aria answered nonchalantly.
"But why. There has to be a reason why." Sonata chimed, Aria didn't like that Sonata was keeping her awake like this.
Aria didn't answer Sonata, she was hoping that if she ignored her, Sonata would stop bugging her and go back to sleep. Unfortunately it didn't work. Sonata rolled over so she was facing Aria and gently put her hand on her shoulder, Aria opened her eyes in surprise and felt herself getting a small blush.
"Tell me now." Sonata demanded as she looked into Aria's eyes with a stony gaze that would make anyone cringe, except Aria because she was used to it.
"Ok. I don't like being called Ari because it makes me feel weaker than I know I am. I just assume that it no one calls me Ari than I can't feel weak because no one's calling me that stupid name." Aria answered, she felt her fist clenching into a ball. She wanted to punch something and was about too punch the bed when Sonata grabbed her fist gently in her hand and stopped her.
"Aria I don't think that name makes you sound weak. I think that should actually be your name. You don't need to punch anything Aria, I know your strong and independent but just don't punch anything because you feel the need to." Sonata said softly.
"Thanks. At least I know now that someone appreciates me." Aria said as she unclenched her fist and felt Sonata loosen her already light grip on Aria's hand. Aria knew she was stronger than Sonata and knew that if she wanted to, she could easily pull her hand away from Sonata but she didn't, she felt like a totally different right now that Sonata was laying beside her.
"Can I tell you what I think?" Sonata asked as she let go of Aria's hand and got ready to go to sleep again.
"Sure I guess." Aria answered as she began playing with a lock of Sonata's hair.
"I think you just get insecure when someone calls you that because you can't control your emotions as well as everyone thinks you can but you don't know how to express other than punching something or getting mad. I noticed it yesterday when Adagio took your phone away." Sonata explained to Aria and Aria knew she was right but would never admit that to Sonata.
