Chapter 1: New Faces and a (not so) Dramatic Standoff

Previous Chapter

Metal. Metal screeching against metal was all I heard as the ship took a hard landing in the trees. I watched out the viewport as I noticed an abundance of black trees.

Wait, black trees?

I quickly jumped up and noticed that my squad was knocked out, and saw that Fixer's helmet had a large crack running up the visor. I stumbled towards the wall, but then a panel came loose and knocked onto my helmet. Then, all I saw was black.

I awoke and quickly noticed a fire on the back of the bridge. I jumped up and grabbed the fire extinguisher and quickly doused the flames. Coughing, I noticed my helmet's air filter was broken. I stumbled towards a large hole on the front of the bridge and heard talking.

Hopefully a Republic recovery team, and not a Separatist salvage squad.

I walked over towards the oh so blinding light and saw, brightly colored, equines, that appeared to be the source of the talking.

Fierfek, did I hit my head?

I speculated whether my mental state was stable until one of them noticed me. I quickly whipped out my rifle and said on my helmet communication system,

"Brothers, you need to come over here NOW."

They slowly walked into view and I noticed that Fixer was not wearing his helmet. I said,

"Uh, are you guys seeing this too?"

Fixer looked and choked on his tongue momentarily.

"Sir, are those horses?

"Apparently. They are headed this way and I do not know if they are Separatist affiliated or not, so get ready."

We all grabbed our combat rifles and stared at a horse in bright gold armor waving a spear threateningly.

"Seriously? Where'd you guys lose your blasters?" Scorch sneered.

A taller, white horse with moving hair, wings, and a horn? said quietly,

"Hm, they speak perfect Equestrian. How strange."

Fixer raised his rifle and said menacingly,

"Stop where you are. This is the Republic Military."

A lavender colored horse with a horn? said,

"What is the Republic Military?"

"You've got to be kidding me." Sev said.

I said in retaliation to the horse's question, wait, a horse asked a question?

"We are clone soldiers employed by the Galactic Republic. Now, are you with the Separatists?"

"What are the Separatists?" the aforementioned horse asked.

Great. They are probably one of those hippocrit neutral planets with all of their peace-talks and all that other nonsense. I wonder if they even know what a spaceship is?

"And, why did you come falling out of the sky in a big metal bird?"

Well, that answers my question.

"That is a Republic Assault Ship. Don't tell me you've not heard of space travel, have you?" I asked.

"Well, Princess Luna was banned to the moon a few thousand years ago."

Wait. Did it just say a few thousand years ago? Nothing can possibly live that long.

"How long is the average horse's lifespan?"

"Well, earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns have about an 90 year lifespan while alicorns are immortal."

Immortal!?! How is that even possible?

"*Sigh* Just don't make any sudden moves." I said.

We retreated back to the ship, and I said, "Squad, let's make a break for the edge of the forest. If I remember right from the approach, we should head north for 2 klicks. Then let's look for the nearest town or city and try to find any of these ponies owners."

We snuck around the edge of the ship and broke into a run for the north. Five minutes later, we exited the forest and saw a rural farm town. We went prone and approached a hill by the edge of the town. I pulled out my macrobinoculars and looked at the town, searching for any droids.

All I saw were ponies.

Ponies everywhere.

"Oh boy." I said.

Author's Note

I want to apologize in advance for chapters coming out slowly. I will only be writing on weekends and this summer I am traveling a lot. Naturally, I cannot type and drive (what do you think I am, some kind of superhuman?) so expect maybe twelve chapters by the end of summer. Then it will go back to weekends only, and I am probably boring you to death with this long author note. Now excuse me while I go jump off a bridge.
