Fallout Equestria: Dust
Prologue
Load Full StoryThe Stable Dweller had endured many hardships in her quest to bring light and hope back to the Equestrian Wasteland. After she had taken control of the SPP Hub, she was sure that her plan would succeed.
However, things don’t always turn out the way that you plan them to.
It seems that she underestimated the Enclave’s sheer level of determination, as they absolutely refused to be defeated. After she had broken into and taken control of the SPP Hub, wresting control of the sky from them, the Enclave threw everything that they had at her in order to reclaim it. However, even with everything they had, it still wasn’t enough to get through the impenetrable alicorn shield surrounding the Hub tower. Facing the inevitability that they couldn’t win, they decided that no matter what, after everything that she had cost them, they wouldn’t let her win either, so they planted powerful explosives all around the SPP Hub tower, just underneath the shield, to collapse it, denying its power to anyone.
Without the tower for support, the shield containing the top of the Hub tower collapsed, falling down to the wasteland below, and when it did, the force was so powerful that the shield was not only completely destroyed, but it also destroyed Celestia’s soul inside the Crusader mainframe. So much magical radiation was released into the atmosphere from actually destroying a soul jar that it forever altered the atmosphere of Equestria and their ability to control the weather, with the SPP or pegasi, leaving the weather in the Equestrian Wasteland in even greater flux than ever before. There aren’t even any more clouds, which now makes living in the sky completely impossible and leaving the surface constantly exposed to radiation and dust storms. The impact of the destruction also created the largest and most radioactive crater in the entire wasteland, far surpassing the Fillydelphia Crater in size.
This event became known as the Fall.
The loss of the sky was just the beginning, however, as in the following years, everything only got worse from there. In wake of the Enclave’s destruction, the pegasi have revolted after having the government lie to them for the last two hundred years, and from the Stable Dweller taking away their peaceful lives and forcing them down into the cruel and unforgiving wasteland. They reacted with outrage, with the Enclave being unable to control it after everything that they had lost, leading to rioting and pegasus society destroying itself. After the Fall and the riots following, any remaining pegasi have been forced down to the surface, leaving the sky empty.
With no one left who can control them or establish any semblance of order, the remnants of Red Eye’s army have begun infighting between themselves, and with the remnants of the Enclave and the New Canterlot Republic, and over the years have devolved into nothing more than petty raiders.
The alicorns have become a lot more unhinged. After the Fall, the rest of them went completely insane, took Velvet Remedy and teleported away. However, the area that they teleported to was highly radioactive and Velvet Remedy died instantly. However, by that point, the alicorns have become so insane that they don’t even realise it, and they now worship her corpse. The alicorns have now become nothing more than feral beasts, attacking anything that's not them.
After everything that they have gone through recently, and the Fall making everything worse, denying their chance to rebuild, the Hellhounds have finally snapped. No longer remaining passive, they have now started actively seeking out and killing everything – mostly ponies – that they come across. They have now begun spreading out across the entire wasteland, and have become even more feral and more dangerous than before, although they have long since run out of ammunition to power, and the intelligence to operate energy weapons, and so don’t use them anymore. A tiny reassurance compared to everything else.
After the Fall, the Steel Rangers have become even more isolationist than before. Seeing what has become of the wasteland, they have sealed all of their remaining bunkers, with no plans to ever open them up again, even for any of them that were outside at the time of sealing. These unfortunate Steel Rangers, having lost everything, take it out on anyone and anything that they come across, using their advanced power armor and weapons to kill them, becoming nothing more than advanced raiders. The Applejack’s Rangers, at this point, are no more.
The New Canterlot Republic managed to pull out and reach the borders of the Equestrian Wasteland – the area most affected by the Fall – in time, so they were able to escape before things got too bad. The higher ups were able to negotiate with other neighbouring countries to let them into the areas, ensuring their own survival. The NCR still maintain several bases back in the Equestrian Wasteland, which they use in their negotiations as proof that they’re still fighting for their destroyed homeland, but in actuality, they only use this as a positive influence with bordering countries, while those still stationed there are essentially on permanent reserve, dooming everyone stationed there, with no plans to do anything to help them. Soldiers still stationed at these bases shoot everyone on sight, believing them all to be insane raiders, though not without good reason.
After the Fall, and the years following the catastrophe, there is now no real civilisation left in the Equestrian Wasteland, with bands of raiders, cannibals, and devolved tribes as all that is left, with only a handful of still sane survivalists, just doing their best to survive. Feral creatures now roam the wasteland in even greater numbers, with the alicorns, Steel Rangers and Hellhounds, even more of a threat than before. There are permanent dust and radiation storms, and cloudless skies, scorching the land. Ponies have been driven to even more extreme measures in order to survive, like cannibalism, which eventually drives any remaining normal ponies insane.
After everything that has happened in the twenty years since the Fall, there is now no hope for Equestria anymore. It’s a lost cause. For anyone still sane enough, there is now only hope left:
Get the Hell out of there.
