Miles's pages fluttered as a warm breeze blew in through the cabin window.A small but annoying mosquito also passed through the lush trees and in through the window into his fathers cabin, hidden deeply in the woods. The cabin itself was small but felt much more empty to Miles as he cracked open a bottle of water and took a swig. Being the age of 18, most of his friends would go out to party and get drunk, but Miles enjoyed reading and sleeping more than he felt the need to get wasted. Although his scores in school were above average he would not attempt to brag or look down upon anyone. Hell, he didn't even talk to anyone in school...not even the teachers. Although he maintained a slightly fit body, he never even came close to joining his high school football team, mostly because he didn't really care to run around in the hot sun chasing after a ball.
Miles was a perfect example of a "Loner", he didn't enjoy being in other people's business and neither did they. Although his impressive height of 6'2 and messy black hair made him stick out like a sore thumb in a crowd, he wasn't given much attention by anyone at school, and he like it that way. As Miles sat on his reading chair, immersed in a book, the mosquito that had been flying around the cabin landed quietly on his arm. Normally he would be able to hear this bu,t due to the loud music playing through his earphones, he read on, unaware of the annoyance that had settled on his arm. As the mosquito greedily sucked his blood Miles felt the tinge on his arm and angrily slapped at the mosquito.
"Oh for fucks sake!" Miles yelled as he wiped the dead mosquito off his palm and onto his pants. "What is it Miles?" asked his sister Elysa. "Just a fucking mosquito," he grunted as he tried to get back to his reading. "Whatcha' reading there?" Elysa asked as she flopped down on the couch across from him. Elysa was his sister, although many people wouldn't be able to see the family resemblance (Mainly due to the way Miles towered over her height of 5'2) she was still a sister to Miles. Elysa flipped her long black hair to the side as she tried to get a closer look at the book Miles was reading. "Just a book," Miles said as he put his earphones back into his ears.
"That's what you always say Miles," whined Elysa as she attempted to snatch the book from her brother's hands. Although she failed miserably as he stood up and held the book above his head. "No fair!" she pouted as he grinned and walked towards the fridge to get himself some thing to eat. Defeated, Elysa turned on the small ratty television set that her father had insisted to keep in the cabin for "Sentimental Purposes". As the two siblings were doing their own things a silent but deadly danger crept through one of the windows on the first floor.
The drifter had gone for a 2 days without sleep, and to top it all off he was lost in the forest after trying to lose some dogs that were set on him for escaping a prison. He had run away because of the constant rape and beatings that were given to him in the cells. He had tried to eat the berries but ended up very sick instead. He had robbed an old farmer's house and stole his gun, getting bitten by the dog in the process. As he was walking through the woods, he spotted a small cabin on a dirt road. "Jackpot," he had thought to himself as he silently crawled through one of the open windows. There was a wrapped pie on the wooden table which he proceeded to devour ravenously. As he finished eating, his eyes drifted towards a small chest on the top of a closet. "Well, I am already breaking and entering," he chuckled to himself as he dragged the chair to the closet, hoisting himself up.
As Elysa was watching the old television, she decided that she should play a small prank on her brother as he stooped down to fix a cabinet he broke. She silently crept towards her brother with the bottle of water he had left on the counter. "LOOK OUT A FLOOD!" she yelled as she poured the water down his shirt. "Agh!" Miles yelped as he turned around and pushed his sister. The sudden commotion upstairs made the drifter realize that he wasn't alone. As he hastily tried to remove himself from the chair he stumbled, causing a crash. The two siblings upstairs froze as the crash downstairs reached their ears. "What was that?" asked Miles as his sister immediately hid behind him. "You should probably go check," she whispered as she grabbed a frying pan from one of the cabinets.
"Ugh, fine" Miles said as he slowly headed down the stairs with this sister close behind him."Whoever you are, I'm calling the police!" Miles yelled. The drifter panicked as he pulled out a dirty M1911, that only held 5 bullets after his encounter with the dogs. He held it up with shaking hands at the bottom of the stairway. As Miles stepped down the stairway, the drifter panicked at the sudden movement and fired rapidly, hitting Miles in the chest multiple times.BANG BANG BANGG As Miles went down like a bag of bricks, gasping for air he could hear a shrill scream from the stairway. Thee drifter snapped out of his shock of just killing a person and ran upstairs. "I am not going back to jail," he thought to himself as he cornered the girl at the balcony. In blind panic of getting sentenced to death for murder, he pulled the trigger. BANG
The bullet passed through her chest and painted the wooden cabin walls. As she lay there gasping for air through her punctured lungs, the drifter felt his legs give away as the realization began to set in. He ran up to the fallen girl and checked if she was breathing. She was, but barely alive. As she looked up at him with pleading eyes, he closed his eyes and said "Sorry, but i can't go back" as he pulled the trigger for the last time. As the bullet passed through her skull and rendered her boy motionless, the drifter turned around to see the first person he shot crawling up the stairs. The drifter, now out of bullets and scared senseless jumped out of the second story balcony and stumbled into the forest.
Miles's mind was spinning as he saw his dead sister's blood pool into a puddle on the carpet. As he lost more and more blood, his sight began to go black as he embraced the warm darkness ahead of him.
Darkness
Warmth
Emptiness?
Miles awoke in the darkness, trying to look around himself. His attempts were met with failure as his physical body was no more. The only way he could explain this situation was as if his soul was in space. He could not speak, breathe, nor move his body no matter how hard he tried. As panic began to set in a bright light appeared in the void.
FLASH
As the bright light appeared, Miles heard a voice call out to him.
Hello my child.
Miles could not say anything as he had no mouth.
One second
As another bright light filled the void, Miles could feel a tingling sensation in his mind as a glowing body appeared around his consciousness.
There, that should allow you to speak.
Who are you, and where am I? Where is my sister?!
You are dead, this is purgatory, or rather known as "The Void"
As realization hit Miles, he began to grow even more confused, and angry.
What happened to the son of a bitch that shot me and my sister?!
He is dead as well, but unlike you he went straight to hell.
Why am I here?
You were lucky to die when you did, it appears that once you reached the void another soul from a different world merged with yours.
How the hell does that mean i am lucky in any way??!
You will be given another chance at life, but with another body, in a different place.
But what about my sister?
She too shall be given another chance, given the position that you hold now.
What position? I'm just a high school kid!
All will be revealed soon, for now close your eyes, your journey will begin soon.
Fuck no! Tell me where my sister is you fu-
As Miles passed through the void, the bright light laughed softly and dissipated into the void.
To be continued.
Chapter 1
Lost and afraid
The morning sun leaked through the trees and onto Miles's sleeping face. As he slowly blinked his eyes, he received a breathtaking view of a lush forest around him. The weak breeze fluttered through the trees as Miles slowly got to his feet. As he tried to maintain balance, he realized he did not have feet or hands. Panicking, he brought what was supposed to be his hands up to his face and realized that there were instead furry grey stumps. Shocked and confused, he stumbled backwards landing on his back.
"What the fuck is this?!" he yelled as he fumbled to get up. During this stumbling session, he had somehow managed to fall straight into a river and yelped as the cold water seeped through his fur, drenching him to the bone. "Aghh!!" he yelled as he flailed around in the water trying to get out. After a good 2 minutes of flailing he regained his senses and simply walked out of the shallow water. "I hope nobody saw that," he thought to himself as he sat in the sun to dry off his fur.
After a moment, he approached the water to see exactly what he was with the reflection and found a grey pony looking back at him. In awe he touched his hoof to the water and found that he had a large scar running down the tip of his hoof to his chest. Intrigued, he turned around as to check his entire body for anymore scars but instead found that the only differences he could find from what he considered a "normal" pony was 2 short curved horns just next to his ears on the top of his head and a tattoo of some sort on his butt. His mane seemed to be black but with 3 streaks of red that acted like some sort of fire. At first he panicked and attempted to dunk his head into the water, but in the end realized it did him no harm. His butt tattoo (As he called it) was in the shape of a flame.
As he continued to explore his newfound body, a shadowy silent figure was watching him through the bushes in the woods. All was silent until the figure accidentally stepped on a stray stick. Time froze as the 2 individuals stood stock still, and Miles slowly turned his head towards the direction. "is anybody there?" he asked. At that moment 2 things happened, the bush burst into a shower of leaves and a very peculiar looking wolf burst out of it. The wolf did not waste any time on trying to bite down on Miles's neck as the grey pony flailed in panic. The flailing of his hooves however deemed itself useful when a hit landed on the snout of the wolf. In a split second the wolf was stunned Miles began to ran with all his strength towards one of the dirt roads next to the lake. "Holy fucking shit!" he yelped as he ran away from the timberwolf. The wolf however was not having any of that and followed at breakneck speed.
Miles was confused, tired, and scared. He ran down the dirt road, being whipped by at least 20 branches along the way. He cursed inside and kept running. While running as fast as he could with 4 legs for the first time, he made a mistake and tripped over his own, sending him into a tumbling roll straight through some bushes....and right off a cliff. "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU," he yelled as he fell towards the water. "This is how I die," was the only thought rushing through his head. Faith seemed cruel to him as he fell down a massive ravine. In the split moment he was falling, he closed his eyes and decided to accept his faith, only to be distracted by a louder noise. "LOOK OUT BELOW!" a scratchy tomboyish voice could be heard from...next to him?
As the owner of the voice collided with him, Miles was pushed straight into a cave in the ravines and both of them ended up with a loud crash at the end of the short tunnel. Meanwhile the timberwolf stood at the cliff before the ravine and whined as it slowly turned away. Miles forced his eyes open to find himself upside down with a cyan blue horse lying on top of him. As he flipped himself upright the horse fell off as well, shaking it's head. "Ow, my head hurts," Miles said as he rubbed the top of his head. The cyan blue horse stood up and yelled "What were you thinking!" as she pointed a hoof accusingly at him. "I fell off a cliff," were the only words Miles could say before the mare went off on a rant about how she had saved his life.
"Where are we?" asked Miles, cutting off the mare's rant. The mare in question looked at him grumpily and replied with "The Everfree Forest."
"Were you even listening to what I was saying?" the mare questioned Miles as he waved it off with a "Yea, sure thing dude." "I AM NOT A DUDE!" yelled the mare as she poked her hoof into Miles's chest. "Well then who the fuck are you?" Miles asked. "My name is Rainbow Dash, fastest flier in Equestria!" She proudly announced, folding her legs across her chest. "Alright good for you, now can we get out of this cave?" asked Miles, not noticing the steaming rainbow dash behind him. "Yea, but I'm not gonna help somepony like you!" she yelled as she flew out of the cave. "Hey wait!!!" yelled Miles as Rainbow dash flew away. "For fucks sake," Miles said as he peeked out of the cave.
A very very very high drop awaited him. "Alright never mind then," he thought as he stepped back. Maybe he would be able to scale the edges of the ravine if he tried very carefully. He inched out towards the edge and grasped onto the wall for dear life as he inched himself forwards towards a bigger crack. At that same moment, woosh of air could be heard behind him as he turned his head slightly to see that Rainbow Dash had come back. "A little help?" he asked, causing her to snort and lift him up and out of the ravine. Slowly but steadily, they rose out of the ravine and back onto the dirt road. "They really need to make some fences," grumbled Miles as he dusted himself off. "Thanks anyways," he said to the panting Rainbow Dash as he headed down the road. Rainbow Dash muttered something about being too nice and decided to fly away to her job, which she was already 10 minutes late for.
As Miles headed down the dirt road, a peculiar sight caught his eye. It appeared to be a house and a tree at the same time. Something he had only seen in maybe a fairy tale story. "Well, shit" he thought to himself as he trotted up the steps to the house, tripping over his hooves, yet again and banging his head on the door. "For fucks sake," he said as he knocked on the door. "Hello, is anyone home?" he yelled trying to peek in through the curtained windows. The door opened a crack and with a quiet "eep," it slammed shut. "Hello, my name is Miles and I'm looking for civilization," he said as he continued to bang on the door. "Hello? Hey i know you're in there!" he yelled trying to get the door to open again.
Once he gave up waiting, he realized he had made a pretty bad approach. "Excuse me? I'm sorry for banging on the door, but I just want directions towards the nearest town," he said as softly as he could. The door opened a crack and a buttery yellow hoof poked through pointing in the right direction. "T-That way," a timid and soft voice said. "Thank you, whats your na-," before he could finish his sentence the door slammed shut once more. "Alrighty then, thanks for the directions," Miles said as he trotted towards the direction the yellow hood had pointed at.
As Miles trotted down the dirt path, a yellow mare with a pink mane watched him leave through a crack in the curtains.
Meanwhile at Canterlot, panic had spread through royalty like wildfire. "Please! Calm yourself everypony!" Celestia Boomed out with her royal voice. All panic stopped as everypony in the square looked towards her for an explanation. After a moment of silence questions started to break out from the crowd. "Where is the element bearer!? Why hasn't he appeared on the alter!? Did the elements break the pact!? "Before panic could spread even farther into Canterlot Square Celestia boomed out with her Royal Canterlot Voice, "Calm yourselves, the element has most likely not been chosen yet, if the pact has been broken the statue of Unity would be shattered by now." Feeling much more comforted by her words the ponies trotted away from the alter to continue their daily life. Although some stayed, most of the ponies seemed to accept that the Element Bearer had not been chosen yet.
As Celestia was escorted back to her castle she could not help but feel uneasy about the situation. "Why has the element bearer not arrived?" she asked herself. She walked into her chambers and shut the doors behind her with magic. As she pondered the thought, a mysterious pony in the town of Ponyville was trotting through the town square without a clue in the world about the panic that he had caused.
Miles happily trotted through the town receiving stares from different ponies all around. "Who is he? Whats with the horns on his head?" As Miles continued through the town, people began to shy away from him at a rapid pace. Soon every pony in the town square was gone, doors were slammed, windows were closed, and curtains were drawn. "Racist bastards," Miles muttered as he continued to explore the town. After a good 5 minutes of walking he was standing in front of a sweet shop. "Well, it has been a while since I've had some candy," he said to himself as he cautiously pushed the door in. "Ring" the bell sounded as he walked in, immediately hit by the strong smell of sweet delicacies.
"Hello, and welcome to my sweet sho-," said a mare before she cut herself off after seeing the pony that stood in front of her. "Urm, C-can I help you sir?" she stuttered. "Hello, I would like to try one of your delectable treats," the stallion stated as he pointed at one of the treats inside the glass counter. "Um, sure which one would you like,?" she asked. "How about that one?" he asked pointing his hoof at a chocolate truffle. "Ah, okay..that will be 1 bit," the shopkeep said. A look of confusion and realization hit the stallion's eyes.
"Bit?" he asked. At this point it was obvious that the stallion wasn't from around here. "Well, its our currency," she exclaimed as she stared at Miles. "Although it looks like you're not from around here so why don't you try a sample, on the house?" she said sweating slightly. "Why thank you, that would be nice," said the stallion as he reached for the truffle. The mare did her best to smile before the stallion stopped and asked her name. "My name is Bon Bon, and I run this sweet shop," she said as she inched towards the back door. "Ah that's a very interesting name, my name is MIles" Miles said as he reached for the truffle. To his dismay he could not grasp the truffle, considering he had no fingers. As he tried to concentrate on putting pressure into his hooves. Bon Bon watched as the stallion struggled to pick up the truffle.
As Miles started to unknowingly concentrated his energy into his hooves, his horns started to glow. And once his hoof made contact with the truffle it erupted in flames, nearly burning his mane off in the process.
That was the last straw for terrified Bon Bon as she ran out of the shop.
"Well shit," was all Miles could say as he held a melted truffle in his hooves.
The Beginning
In the beginning, the planet "Equus" was nothing more than a bleak and dreary wasteland. The elements of nature were harsh, unforgiving, and mostly uncontrollable. After countless years of battle between the unified races and the elements, the leaders of the Unified Races and the elements came to an agreement that would benefit them both.
The elements requested that certain powerful members of their race would be able to "merge" with an individual of one of the unified races. Once a bearer was chosen, the individual would be allowed to use the power of the elements, and receive immortality in exchange for having to carry said element's soul until they were killed or worse. Since the element's bodies are composed mostly of strong and unstable magic, strong strains of magic and time would cause the element to "Burn out" and disappear into the void until they were re-born into another unstable body of an element. The rebirth of an element meant that the elements would have none of they past experiences or power until they matured once more and repeated the process, causing advancement to be impossible.
The main leaders of the Unified Races, Princess Celestia of Equestria, King Steelbeak of Griffonstone, and Queen Ryages of the Badlands, in return to the elements requests, responded that the elements must move themselves to the void where they will be able to experience the world as time passes. The main few elements would be able to stay and influence society, not directly but gradually.
After many compromises and slight changes to the agreement, the pact was made and the physical bodies and presences of the elements went into the void and the first few bearers of the elements were chosen, and thus our story begins.
