You walked through the streets of Ponyville with a smile on your face with a filly walking beside you. Dinky, a twelve year old foal, was walking beside you with saddle bags on her back. She had just gotten out of school and same with you, only work instead of school. She had ran up to you as you walked out of the local spa after finishing your last client. You had worked at a spa for almost a year now, and life in Equestria had been pretty decent for you. You had a good paying job, many friends including Vinyl, Octavia, Roseluck, Bon Bon, Lyra, and etc. at first when finding your way into Equestria was not the best day in your life, but it was still you’re first day in your new home. Or should you say world.
After a few months in Ponyville with the Princesses’ helping you settle in by giving a huge speech about you, you had gotten used to you’re new life. You admit there was trouble at first, ponies wanted you to be hanged or killed some other way. But once they got used to you they had apologized for what they said. And they offered you odd jobs to do to earn some money in return. You didn’t really know anything about this world's currency so you just took what you could get.
And soon after others were used to you completely you’re first friend, Lyra, had asked you to help her out by giving her a massage. She told you she was sore for a few days and was tired of having to be like this. So you didn't think anything of it and gave her one. And word got out about it and the spa ponies, Aloe and Lotus, came and asked you to work with them and give ponies massages. You agreed but not after learning of the conditions. You would be paid half of what you would be bringing in from the day you worked. It was strange how they paid you but you didn’t complain, and you started your new job and you’re life had started to turn around, and you liked being in Equestria now to be honest.
And after another couple of months you had ran into Dinky. Well more like she ran into you. She was running around with a few of her friends and she wasn’t looking where she was going. She ran into your leg and you both fell to the ground. Once you helped her up and made sure she was okay you were about to walk away when she asked if you wanted to play with her. You thought about it and you didn’t have anything to do so you agreed and played away for the rest of the day. After that day of meeting Dinky you had started to play around more after you got out of work.
Now back to the present.
You look around Ponyville and see ponies enjoying their day with friends and family. It was maybe around three o'clock and you had gotten out of work several minutes ago. Dinky was waiting outside for you like she had done every day ever since you met her. She had grown on you and you enjoyed her company and her free spirit. And when you would talk to her she would start off with asking about your day. You would say “Just the same old same old.” and leave it at that. You would ask the same thing and she would repeat what you said. Then she would start talking about her mother Ditzy Doo. You’ve never met her but whenever Dinky talks about her, she always makes her sound like an angel.
She would also talk about how her mother was clumsy but she still loved her. It warmed your heart every time she would talk about her mother. And it makes you want to meet her more and more every time. So you asked if you could meet her yesterday and Dinky said that it would be a great idea. She said that today she would take you to her house and meet her mother. You were actually excited to meet her but you hid it with a poker face so Dinky wouldn’t know.
You walked down the path with a skip in your step.
“We’re almost there. There’s the house down there.” she said pointing a hoof to a house in the middle of the street.
It looked like all of the other houses here in town, it had beige cream walls, with hay on the roof. Dinky started to run up to the house and you went into a jog as you came up on the house. Dinky knocked on the door for you and looked up at you with a smile on her muzzle.
The door swung open to reveal a beautiful mare with a grey coat with a blond mane and tail. She had amber colored eyes, that were cross eyed, and she had wings and her cutie mark were bubbles. She had a smile on her face until she saw who was with her daughter. She looked up at you with a look of confusion and wonder. She looked at you for several long seconds before Dinky snapped her out of it.
“Mommy, this is my friend Anon.”
“Oh, uh, hello. My names Ditzy Doo. But others just call me Derpy Hooves,” she said holding a hoof up. You took her hoof in your hand and shook while saying.
“It’s nice to meet you Mrs. Doo,” you say letting go of her hoof.
“Oh, I’m not married.” she said with a smile.
“Wait, then how did you have-” you say but you were then cut off by Ditzy.
“Well uh, how about you two come inside and I’ll go make some tea.” she said running off into the house.
“Come on.” Dinky said motioning with a hoof to follow.
You walked inside and saw a very neat house. Everything was put in a spot where it seemed comfortable there and it gave the place a very homey vibe. It made your insides feel warm and happy, well maybe that's because it was warm in here but that's besides the point. You stepped further in walking towards where the voices were coming from and you went through a living room and finally into the kitchen where the voices were coming from. You walked in and the two ponies sitting at a table in the center of the room, look at you.
“Please Mr. Anonymous, take a seat,” she said pointing a hoof to a nearby chair.
You gladly accept the offer and pull the chair out and sit down. You’ve been working all day and it was about time you actually got a break. You were able to eat lunch but it was only for about ten minutes before you got back up and started working again. But you never complained, work is work. And your job wasn’t like being an accountant back on earth. No, this job was the best job you would ever think of. Mares giving you hugs and thanking you for the amazing massage! You were quite popular with the older mares around here.
The other two sat there talking about how each other's day had gone and you just sat there with your thoughts. Eventually after several minutes of sitting there your mind wandered to the past days of being here. It felt like not too long ago you had just fallen out of the sky and into one of your current best friends house. At first she freaked out about a crazy flying ape thing crashing into her house. But after seeing how badly injured you were, she had calmed down and went to the hospital to get help.
You were in the hospital for about three weeks somehow and it still remains a mystery to you. You passed it off as magic after you found out in the worst of ways. Once Twilight had seen you, you weren’t in the best of state to do much. But let’s just say that things happened and you had to stay even longer in the hospital.
But once you were out Twilight had kept apologizing over and over again before you had to accept the offer for her to help you with getting to know other ponies. Which is why all the other ponies warmed up to you thanks to Twilight and your best friend, Octavia. Octavia, or the nickname you call her by, Octy, seen you and Twilight walking around and decided to tag along and help out. Twilight thought it would help if more ponies thought that you were a great guy and harmless.
“Anon!!!” You were pulled by your daydreaming from someone shouting your name.
“Huh? What?”
“My mom wants to know if you're hungry?”
“Oh, I’m fine. Besides, I’m not very hungry right now. I ate right before you came and got me actually.” you said with a wave of your hand.
“Oh, okay!” Dinky said hopping back into the kitchen.
You had gotten up while thinking about the past still and moved into the living room when the other two were moving to a much more touchy subject. Anything you heard from that conversation you made sure to lock away deep in your mind.
Several minutes passed as you waited for Ditzy and Dinky to finish eating. Or, that’s what you assume they're doing right now. For all you know they could have gone out and left you there alone. You shook your head dispersing the thought and looking into the kitchen. You saw a shadow of a pony sitting down while occasionally lifting something up and putting it into its mouth.
After what seemed like hours of non-stop boredom, the two ponies finally finished eating and walked into the living room with their bellies extended slightly showing how full they are. They went and sat on the couch while you stayed seated in the comfortable rocking chair. You sat there for a bit longer with silence in the air before clearing your throat gaining their attention.
“So, uh… how was your all’s day?” you ask with a meek smile. But Dinky answered without noticing the horrible attempt at the beginning of a conversation.
“It was awesome! Lily, my friend, and I went and played ultimate frisbee with the Cutie Mark Crusaders today with my other friend Little Trick. We also won the game too, but the other three looked like they were disappointed for some reason. But they cheered up after we went and played tag.” she said with an ear splitting smile.
“Sounds like you had fun.” you said chuckling. “Uh, what about you Ditzy?”
“The same thing as always. Went to work, delivered mail, came home and waited for Dinky to arrive. Nothing changed other than the other failures I made today.” she said looking at the ground. Tension was in the air all of a sudden as it became awkward to continue the conversation any further.
“Mommy stop saying things like that! You're not a failure! You just make mistakes, it’s nothing that can be handled.” she said hugging her mother. Ditzy hugged back as she smiled and let a few tears fall.
Wow, didn’t expect that out of any foal. That would be like something from a parent. You thought to yourself as you smiled slightly. You stood up seeing this as a good time to leave them to themselves for now, You tip toed over to the door slowly. You exited the house and closed the door quietly and made your way back home.
You walked through the town of Ponyville with a smile on your face as the sun started to set behind the trees giving of rays of beautiful sunset colors. You noticed there were very few ponies out at this time, as it was starting to become winter with the temperature being freezing. Luckily you never really got cold for some reason. But you never complained, it just meant less money to spend on winter clothes. You probably wouldn’t have to pay for any either, with the Tailor of Ponyville being a bit too generous at times. Her name slips your mind at the moment as you start to see your destination closing up.
The lights inside were on indicating that they were home. You quickened your pace as you arrived at the front door. You took out the key and unlocked the door and went inside. The scent of freshly made food hit your nose as you sniffed in the inviting aroma. You took off your shoes and walked deeper into the house passing by a large station of scratched disks and a bow on the floor. You soon ame into the kitchen and saw a grey mare with a jet black mane and tail standing on her hind legs. Luckily her tail was hiding her private areas so you wouldn’t have to have another talk with the two again.
“I’m home Octy!” you yell making the mare jump as you chuckle slightly.
“Anon! Ah, stop doing that! You always do that and it gets me every time!” she said puffing out her cheeks.
“That’s why it's so fun!” you said with a bright smile trying to hold in your laughter and failing. You finally gave up in holding in your laughter and let out a full on laugh as she just stared at you with a harsh look by your laughter. Soon she joined in as you two laughed long and hard.
“What’s so funny?” you hear someone ask. You and Octavia finally calm down enough and look to the newcomer.
A white mare with a mixture of a blue mane and tail with thick shades on stood in the doorway. Her mane and tail looked like she was just in the middle of a tornado and came out looking like that. You had mentioned it to her when you were closer to her and after a quick buck to your gut had shut you up and down on the floor.
“Nothing, we’re just crazy,” you said with a last chuckle.
“Whatever. What’s for dinner sweet stuff?” Vinyl asked as she walked up and kissed Octavia on the cheek. Octavia blushed deeply as her eyes became wide.
“Vinyl, don’t do that in front of Anon! It’s embarrassing.” she said looking away from your gaze.
Your memory wanders back to the day you found out about Vinyl and Octavia being a couple. At first it was a bit surprising to find out about the two being together. Seeing as how their completely different from each other, but seeing as how they act around each other it makes sense. And after a bit of explaining from them also helped you see how it worked too.
Octavia sighed and looked back up after taking a few deep breaths. She looked at both of you and humphed while lifting her nose in the air and flipping her mane back. Like rarity does a lot. That's her name. Duh, how did I not remember that? You think to yourself as Vinyl tries to apologize to Octavia
“Octavia I’ve been living with you all for more than seven months now. I think showing I can handle seeing you to showing affection towards each other. Just make sure I can’t hear it at night like last night.” you said with a devilish grin. She blushes even deeper this time as she ‘eeps’ and tucks her tail in between her legs.
“Wait, you heard us last night?” Vinyl asked lifting her shades.
“Uh, yeah. I’m right next to your room if you forgot.”
“Oh, sorry dude. We’ll keep it down tonight. Promise.” she said with a grin which you give one of your own as you both look at Octavia.
“You two are mean,” she said walking out of the kitchen. “Have fun sleeping on the couch tonight Vinyl Scratch.” she said walking into her room slamming the door behind her.
“Wha-! Come on Octy! We were just joking around! Don’t make me sleep o the couch it’s old and uncomfortable.” Vinyl said knocking on the door.
The only answer she received was the door opening up and a pillow and blanket flying out and into Vinyl’s face. The door was slammed once again and locked as Vinyl stared at the door in disbelief. She walked back up to you with a scowl on her face.
“Why’d you have to do that dude!?”
“Hey you kept going with me, so you're just as guilty.” you said holding your hands up in defense.
“Yeah, whatever. Hope you're happy I’m sleeping on the couch now.” she said walking back over and picking up the pillow and blanket off of the ground.
She started walking to the couch when you stopped her by taking the things off of her back. She turned and looked at you as she raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“You can take my bed for the night. I did start it and I’m sorry for that. But you could have just stopped and this wouldn’t be happening now ya know?”
“Yeah, yea. You better not have done anything vulgar in there.” she said walking to your room.
“Say’s you,” you say smirking as she blew you a raspberry. You chuckled as you walked over and laid the blanket and pillow down on the couch.
“Hey, Anon,” you hear Vinyl call your name. You look back at her and see a smile on her face. “Thanks, your a good friend.”
“No problem, now get some rest or Octavia will be mad at both of us in the morning. I can’t believe she just left the dinner on the counter too.” you say with a chuckle.
“Yeah, good night Anon.”
“Good night, Vinyl.” you say as she closes the door.
You lay down on the couch and let out a content sigh as you stare up at the ceiling. You thought back to Vinyl’s words earlier. “You're a good friend.” That’s all you were to others. Just a friend. You shook your head and turned on your side as your eyes grew heavy and you let out a single yawn and let sleep take hold of you.
