A Rainbow Scratched in Vinyl

I shove Blast off the couch as he started poking me joking about what Octavia told him. "Vy and Dashie sittin' on a cloud! K.I.S.S.I.N.G!" He sings, continuing to poke me. "You know that's not possible. I can't sit on a cloud." I reply shoving him again," I'm a unicorn. I'd fall right through!" Octavia pokes her head into the doorway. "Vinyl you need to--" I throw a pillow at her head. "Silence betrayer!" I shout, still furious at her, "Or I shall smite thee with the pillow of doom a second time!" Tav sighs, and pulls out a disc. "I have this." She says in a singsong voice. Oh goddesses! Not the video! "Ok ok!" I shout not wanting anyone to see the video of how I got my cutie mark, "I won't smite you with the pillow of doom a second time!" Blast takes the disc from Tav, and reads the title. "Ooooh! This video!" He says, waving it in the air, "Maybe we should show your new marefriend, huh?" I turn a bright red. If she saw that video I think I might die! "Don't you dare Blast!" I throw a pillow at him, but he throws it back hitting me right in the face. "I'm gonna do it!" He says, running for the door. I float a teddy bear in front of the door, and he screams like a little filly, "AHH!" I send the teddy bear right into his face, and he throws the disc into the air. "Teddy bears, works every time." I say, magically catching the disc. "Did you just...?" Tav says, staring at Blast, gawking. Blast throws the teddy bear into a corner. "I'm horrified of those things!" He admits, turning a bright red, "They're soulless, beady little eyes. Staring through your very being!" Ok then Blast... That's disturbing.

Yesterday Tav walked in on Dash, and I... Dash left after that. Clearly embarrassed. "She probably just got engrossed in the music..."I said to myself, once again floating the teddy bear in front of Blast, "Maybe I should call, and apologize." I pull out my phone, and dial her number. Each ring feels like a century, and I find myself pacing the room. I hear a click then Dash's voice. "Rainbow Dash here." She says, obviously busy with something from the noises in the background. "I'll call back later..." I say in a voice that would give Fluttershy a run for her bits, "You sound busy..." I'm about to hang up, "Hold on Vinyl!" I hear her, and put the phone back to my ear, "What'cha need?" She's acting as if that entire thing never happened. "I just wanted to apologize about what happened the other day... Totally not cool what I did..." I say, talking even quieter,"I shouldn't have done that..." She actually laughs, "Naw, it's cool! You just got caught up in the moment." She says, "Didn't mean anything right?" My heart implodes when she says that. "No... Just got engrossed in the music." I say, trying to hide my sadness, "Didn't mean a thing..." I hang up before she can respond, and throw my phone across the room from anger. Tav gives me a sad look. "You need to tell her how you feel." She says, trying to comfort me, "How you really feel." I ignore her, holding back tears. "No, there's no point..." I say, trying to end the conversation, "She'll nev--" Tav cuts me off, and scares me half to death. "There's always a point!" She says, going over, and coming back with my phone, "Now call her, and invite her over!" I try to say no, but she glares at me... She can be super scary... So I decided to call again, this time the phone is answered faster than before, "This is Rainbow Dash." She says, I think her caller I.D might be broken, or something. "It's Vinyl again... I just wanted to know if you wanted to come over and..." I stop, and look at Tav who simply shrugs at me, "Watch some stupid videos, or somethin'?" There's silence for a moment as she thinks about it. "Don't have anything better ta do... Sure, be there in a sec!" She says, then hangs up.

"I Just did that..." I say, stunned from what I had said, "I just... did that..." I start shaking Tav. "I just did that!" I shout right in her face."Yes, I was there!" She shouts back, "Quit shaking me!" I let go, and there's knocking at the door. "Man, she's fast!" I say, as I open the door expecting the rainbow maned mare. But there's an even more familiar figure at the door... Spiky red and orange mane, white coat, and black glasses resembling my own... otherwise known as my mother. "I was in town, and wanted to visit my little Vinyl Scratch." She says, hugging me, "I asked around, and heard you were living here!" I squirm trying to get away. "Yeah, do you mind not hugging so tight?" I say, finally escaping her hug, "I kinda need to breathe." She smiles at me, and walks in not even asking. "Oh, you must be Octavia." She says, noticing her trying to calm Blast down, "I heard you two were roommates." Octavia apparently hadn't noticed my mother enter, and drops the teddy bear on Blast, causing him to freak again. "You're Vy's mother Lily right?" She says, carefully taking the teddy bear from Blast. "Yep, and I see you know my nephew... still haven't gotten past your fear of teddy bears?" She says, giving Blast a mocking stare. ...I don't know how I'm related to my own mother... my special talent is so different from hers... she's a gardener! A gardener!!! "I also heard something about a... Rainbow Dash?" Mom says, looking at me curiously. "Oh, really?" I say, looking past her at Tav, "Ponybook I imagine?" Mom nods, "You need to stay in touch about these sorta things..." She says in her warmest voice. Then answering my fears, Dash pokes her head in, and frowns. "This a bad time?" She asks, noticing my mother, "I can come back lat--" She gets hugged by my mother, and I feel my face burning. "You must be Dash." She says, releasing her from the hug, "I've heard a lot about you. I'm Vinyl's mom, Lily."

Somehow mom convinced me to let her stay in the guest room, at least until her house is ready. "Oh, I have to show you all this!" She say, pulling out a picture of me as a foal, "Wasn't she adorable?!" Tav is holding back laughter, and my cousin apparently couldn't contain his. To my surprise Dash is looking at every picture without a single sign of laughter. "Mom! Seriously, quit it!" I say, and she puts the picture away, "Thank you." I notice the disc, I must have forgotten to hide it! "What's this?" Mom asks, floating the disc over to her, "Omigosh! I haven't seen this in ages!" She puts the disc into the player, and turns on the TV. "Um, maybe we shouldn't?" I ask, trying to take the disc out. "Nope, we're watching it!" She actually floats me back to my pillow on the floor.... She's strong for a gardener. She hits play, and I cover my eyes dreading what was about to be seen.

I shuffled onstage, record in my mouth, and I look at the crowd staring. It was the talent show, and I had decided to try this DJing thing since I liked the music so much. "I can do this..." I reassure myself, and hop up grabbing the edge of the turntable... It was meant for a taller pony so I had to climb up the thing to get to the top. "Blah!" I exclaim as I spit the record in its place, and put the needle on top of it. "Heres we go!" I shout, as I start playing the song. The audience is eating it up, and then I accidentally step on the record, and start spinning on it. "I. Regret. Nothing!" I shout between giggles as I spin on the record for the rest of the song. Mom actually had to come up after the song to help me backstage. "Sorry mommy..." I say, crestfallen. I hear a shimmery noise, and the next thing I know my cutie mark appears! "Omigosh! Vinyl!" She hugs me, and the video ends.

I see Dash holding back laughter, and I turn a bright red,"Never again..." I say, as I take the disc out, and turn the TV off. --End of chapter 4
