Chapter 1: Suffering and Sorrow

Prologue

She sat there, freezing to death. Her front door was frozen shut, and there was no way to call for help, or, no one to hear her at least. You see, the mare in question, Lady Sunbeam, Lady of Summer and the Sky itself, was freezing to death. Why? She thought. Why does it have to be like this? Yes, I am in the middle of a blizzard, but, I should at least be able to warm myself up... Right?

Sunbeam began to panic. Will this be my end? Will this be the end of my story? She sucked in as much air as she could, before losing it and coughing. She started to close her eyes. She was tired. She hadn’t slept in a day, due to the Blizzard keeping her awake, what with it howling against what was left of her Ice-like windows. This was her end. The demise was not falling to death, oh no. The mare did not worry about that. It was the cold feeling she got whenever winter came around.

She sighed with what air she had left, and let the Blizzard her its way. The young pink Alicorn finally closed her eyes...

Chapter 1: Suffering and Sorrow

The First thing that the Blue Alicorn, Darkfreeze, had heard that morning was that a young mare had died during the Blizzard. A Blizzard that He created. After all, it was His Winter. Guilt. That was the first thing he felt that morning, and well as sympathy for the young mare.  As he made his way out of his house, it snowed lightly, as if it was hearths warming day. He made his way to the crime scene, and had seen the princesses. “Ah, Luna, Celestia. What a pleasure to see you this morning.” He said with a slight frown. Luna jumped with surprise. “Oh! Um... Good morning...” she said, almost blocking his view of the site. “I don’t think you should be here right now, Darkfreeze.” Said Celestia, not even glancing at him the whole time. “Just walk away. It would be better for you.” She continued.

Darkfreeze shook his head. “Please, Tia. If it were me, I would be in there right now, helping with the body. He slowly walked his way through the guards, which were stepping out of his way. They all knew him and his relationship with the victim. It was sad.  Nopony could ever forget this. It would bring tears to their eyes.

Darkfreeze looked into the scene itself, and froze. Not five minutes onto the site, and he rushed in to see the body. He stifled a tear when he lifted the stiff, statue-like body. “Please... Don’t be dead. Please... It’s my fault... PLEASE! WAKE UP!” Darkfreeze began to sob. The lifeless body he held in his hooves was the body of the one he loved. Lord Darkfreeze, one of the four lords and ladies of season, was holding the body of Lady Sunbeam.

Months had past, and still Darkfreeze blames himself for killing her. Though, once he Casts a Blizzard, he can’t control it. But, he was the one who put it up, so he blamed himself. As time passed, he began to visit her burial site more and more, hoping that one day, it would all just be fake. But it wasn’t. This was reality. And this was his nightmare.

Darkfreeze and Sunbeam had known each other for years, talking, playing around, and going places. That was his fantasy, not this macabre world where everything was upside-down, where death wasn’t your fault, and everyone could die freely... No... He had to do something about it... But what?... That’s when he had the Idea. He rushed upstairs to his nightstand book. His Lexicon, had all types of spells, from invisibility, love spells, and then... the Black Magic. He had never used it before. Certainly it wouldn’t be catastrophic in destruction... Darkfreeze flipped to the last page. Only one spell was on it: Ressurection.

Darkfreeze had done it: he had gone insane. He laughed a little. He had finally figured out a way to not feel so guilty anymore. This is what he would call Redemption.  All the requirements were for this spell was for the Sacrifice of Blood, and a peice of a loved one. He had a locket with a strand of her hair in it. He was sure that would work. He pricked his hooves and drew the circle depicted in the book, and placed the Locket in the center.

Sunbeam walked the dark plain. Was this really the Afterlife? She wasn’t quite sure. As she continued to walk along the dirt path, she had heard a voice. “Please... I’m sorry... It was my fault...”  Sunbeam looked around, scared. Was something following her? She stood till and listened again. “It was my fault... If I hadn’t made that Blizzard, you wouldn’t have died. I’m sorry.... I’m so, so sorry...”  She listened and had tears welling up. Not only was the voice talking to her, but she knew the voice. “...D-Darkfreeze? ...Is that you?”  asked Sunbeam, almost crying. A flash of light had then blinded her, making her scream. As she began to regain her vision, she could hear the faintest crying. When her vision was finally clear, she could see Darkfreeze, sobbing at the locket, his face buried in his hooves. He looked up, and saw a faint rendition of Sunbeam.

“S-Sunbeam? Is that really you?” he asked, lifting his head and smiling somewhat.  He laughed a little. He did it He really did it. He rose and slowly made his way to her.

Sunbeam noticed the small pricks in his hooves, which were bleeding quite heavily. “Darkfreeze, what did you-“ she had then noticed the circle she was standing in. “Darkfreeze. You... you did this? Don’t you know what that would do? That would-“ she paused. “No.... No, Darkfreeze, you can’t do this to this to me! I just returned, and your dying!” she screamed.

Darkfreeze just laughed. “Please, Sunbeam. You know I won’t die. Not now at least... And besides... It was my fault... I made that Blizzard... I should have died, not you...” he said, coughing up blood.

“No! It wasn’t your fault! You know that you can’t control a blizzard! I was fated to die then! You.... You really are a fool, aren’t you?  You are going to die, Darkfreeze! You saved one life to take your own!”

“Sunbeam.... We’ll be together now... Don’t you see? We had such a good relationship, didn’t we? Now we can....” Said, Darkfreeze, falling over. The life was draining out of his eyes, as well as his tears. He had done so much, and it was wasted. He whispered one final thing. “Sunbeam.... We.... Will be together.... Again....”

  Darkfreeze was dead.
