War,War never changes. The great war started at the end of Celestias reign, before the massacre caused her to pass rule to her sister, Princess Luna. Under Luna's rule, many weapons were created in secret. Weapons that made balefire look like childs play. In the fateful moments before equestria was engulphed in destructive zebra magic, many things were lost to ponykind. Many items that should have remain burried were unearthed by the survivors of the holocaust. Some were instruments of war, others held more sinister reasons for their existence; some nearly 200 years after the world burned, one such item is about to be discovered by a very unlucky mare. Some secrets are better unearthed.

--location: Steel Ranger Outpost 52263, south of broken fang, new lunar colonies--
I nearly jumped out of my coat as I awoke, ears ringing from the air horn one of my 'friends' had blown into them.
The one with the air-horn, my commanding officer, Head Scribe, Tangerine Float, an orange unicorn with a unkempt messy crimson mane, fell to the ground laughing while her brown coated cohort, Dusty Tome, the tan earth pony with a brown mane, Chief Maintenance technician, brushed his mane from his eyes, and went to help her up, snickering the whole while.
I ignored them and went to the mirror, my mint green coat was filthy, grime clung to my pink mane, the red stripe barely noticable. I sighed and brushed my mane off my horn, and with a quick spell cleaned myself off, to at least be semi presentable for when inspector Coffee Bean decides to check the barracks, if he does.
I pulled on my scribe robes, and put my dog-tags on. "Lightning Scratch, Medical Scribe, SN:0097-0845-9213". I stretched and, after my neck and back gave several satisfying pops, straightened my bunk and made my bed. After straightening my bunk and strapping on my laser pistol,basic morning duties, getting breakfast, y-know, the works, I eventually ended up in the medical wing, behind m desk, soft jazz playing in the background.
When our recon squad came in a couple hours later, i was pleasantly surprised when only two were wounded, thus making my work easier, and reducing the meager supplies i had to use. One of them, Crunchy Taco, a mare with a brown coat and green mane, had her power Armour and for-hoof shredded by an anti machine mine- mines made specifically to kill steel rangers and tanks, curious, the other, Ol Roundhouse, an older stallion with a mud brown coat and ashen mane, was not so lucky, he lost his rear hooves to the mine. I sedated"roundhouse" then set to work on sterilizing his wounds, and half a pack of magi-wrap! Brand medical bandages later, had him bandaged properly. I sedated and removed Tacos shrapnel, before sterilizing and bandaging her as well, then let both sleep, as there was no more i could do.
As I completed the paperwork with using the supplies i had to use, i smiled gently, and leaned back in my seat, before a pleasant looking dark brown rump entered my vision, attached to a certain Scribe Cherry Cola, happened to walk by, her short tail barely hiding a prize- something not for you to see or hear about, and me to know.
"Hey Cherry! " I called to the scarlet maned Scribe, who happened to be deeply engrossed in a leather bound book, i couldn't see a title on it "Whatcha' reading? Anything good?"
Cherry simply shrugged and pulled an ear bloom out, i could hear the bass, she must've been listening to griffon metal again "Anything new, Lightning? Someone I need to cut up? How bad are the damages?" She looked up, bored, snapping the book shut, then i saw the title, for a moment, the ponysu-something or other, i couldn't tell as she blinked it away, probably to its shelf.
I just leaned against the back of her chair, slowly eyeing her up and down, ever since she started going out with Paladin Soft Muffin, i hadn't seen much of her. "Mmmm.... Nope. Buuut..... Hey Cherry, why's your eye bruised?" I stood up, getting a clean rag and dipping it in water, approaching her, m horn glowing as i got ready to lean her injury as well.
A strong telekinetic push shoved me to the other side of the room, bouncing me off the wall, causing me several uncomfortable pops of pain. "Nothing. I'll cover the rest of the shift, Lightning. You- go do something else. " she attempted to shy me off with a hoof, hiding in her book once more.
"If you need anyone to talk to, Cherry... You know where I am." With that I slowly rose, a bruise forming on my shoulder, where I hit the wall, I slowly turned and left, going back to my quarters, I found them deserted, and used the opportunity to lay down, and get some rest.

I awoke with nothing better to do, so I pulled a pipbuck from the desk in the corner, put it on, it only worked as a light and radio, but i was in the process of restoring it! I turned the radio on and began dissembling my laser pistol, cleaning the casing and the ports, checking the charge on the energy cells, making adjustments to the focusing gem stones, cleaning and replacing focusing lenses, then finally, reassembling it, bobbing my head to the music, then wincing, as loud blaring filled my ears, temporarily dazing me, causing me to drop the energy weapon. Who's playing the stupid alarm right now? No one likes-
"Wait, is that the alarm?!" I cried out to no one in particular, thinking a bit more clearly, maybe i shouldn't sit next to the speaker, I picked my laser pistol up shaking myself, to ensure i wasn't asleep, and pointed it to the doorway, I heard the explosions of our rangers weaponry and ordinance, far too close for comfort.
My door opened, and a fully armored ranger backed in, grenade rifle clicking, I winced as i saw a three foot piece of rebar in his neck, and glanced back at the doorway, as he fell, an orange unicorn ran in with a familiar crimson mane- tangerine!- her robes singed, the rooom shook as the door collapsed, followed by more explosions, soon fading.
"L-L-Lightning! We have to go n-n-now before they f-f-find us!" She was talking so fast I couldn't make out what she was saying. The room shook softly, as the fallen ranger bled on my floor, he was already dead.
"Slow the buck down! What in Luna's mane is happening out there?!" I followed my words by grabbing her shoulders and looking her, square in the eyes, our horns so close they almost touched, her heart was racing, her eyes mere pinpricks, ears plastered to her skull, she was in shock, bad, but from what! who the hell is strong enough to take on the steel rangers!.
"Th-The Enclave! They k-k-killed Elder Sooty! They're g-g-gonna kill us too!" She sobbed, "We have to run! w-we have to escape!" She collapsed onto me and started hyperventilating, i hugged her tightly and injected her a med-x, rendering her unconcius, good, i dont want my frend to die, then- I got to thinking- too hard.
The Enclave? Arent they the featherbrained Pegasi? Here? Why?
