Big city knight in a small town

As a train sent from Canterlot destined for Ponyville one passenger was looking out his window deep in thought about what Princess Celestia had asked him to do.

   -Three hours earlier

            Arctic Knight was walking around the grounds of Canterlot castle watching for any kind of possible threat that he knew could exist. As he passed by a statue of Luna, he sighed and looked up at the early morning sky.

“I hope something interesting happens soon.” He said as he sat down on his haunches watching a cloud pass by overhead.

            Though unknown to him his life would be forever changed with the arrival of small colt bearing a letter, running through the grounds looking for Arctic Knight. As the colt looked around he spotted Knight and ran up to him. “Mister Arctic, I have a letter from Princess Celestia meant for you.” The colt said as he set the letter on the ground looking at Arctic smiling.

            Arctic nodded as he gave the colt two bits for delivering the letter to him. He then looked at the letter and a silvery aura formed around the letter lifting it up and opening it he began to read.

Dear Arctic Knight,

            I require your presence in the throne room immediately. Arrive as soon as possible.

   Signed, Princess Celestia

            After finishing the letter the knight galloped off towards the castle as fast as he could. As he ran through the massive doors that lead into the throne room he saw Princess Celestia sitting on her throne speaking to who appeared to be Princess Twilight Sparkle. He slowed down to a walk as he came up to the throne, Knight then lowered himself down bowing to the two princesses respectfully. “Lady Celestia Arctic Knight reporting for duty.” He said as he stood up straight and proud as he looked at Celestia.

            “Sir Knight I wish to ask you to transfer to The castle of friendship in ponyville.” She said as she looked at Arctic smiling motherly at her guard

            “Milady may I inquire as to why you wish me to transfer to ponyville?” He asked keeping a straight face.

            “Princess Twilight is in need of a head guard captain, that has experience in, um Guarding,” She replied smiling at Arctic knowing that he would question her reasoning, so before he said anything she finished. “ All of your belongings and valuables have already been packed and teleported to Castle Friendship.” She said knowing that he was unable to deny the request.

            “Of course milady I shall leave for Ponyville post haste.” He said as he turned to leave,

            “Wait Arctic Knight!” Twilight said suddenly, at hearing his name Arctic turned around to see the princess gone. He noticed Celestia smiling when he heard a loud pop next to him. Turning to face the sound he saw Princess Twilight Sparkle standing next to him, which caused Knight to jump ten feet in the air in shock at her sudden appearance.

            “I’m so sorry for scaring you like that.” Twilight said shocked at his reaction, she ran over to him to check to see if he was alright. Seeing him on his back groaning in pain Arctic rolled over and he stood back up shaking his head to clear it.

            “Forgive me for the scare milady.” He said bowing to Twilight, who looked at him confused.

            “I scared you not the other way around,” She said smiling at him gently. “Anyways I would like to travel with you so that way I may get to know my new Head Knight Captain.” She said as she walked to the throne room doors and she looked back at Arctic smiling waiting for him.

   -Present time

            Arctic was watching the countryside pass by in a blur, he sighed in annoyance at his predicament. Twilight looked at him and smiled kindly. “I’m sorry Sir Knight,” She said as she sat across from him. “For this sudden change in your life.” She said as she looked out the window. “Though I promise you will love Ponyville it is very calm and quiet so you will be able to relax.” She finished as she smiled at Arctic happily.

Arctic just nodded as he saw ponyville come into view finally, he sighed as he stood up and walked out of the compartment, Twilight looked up confused.

            “I shall prepare for your departure of the train Lady Twilight.” He said simply as he walked off towards one of the doors that lead off the train.

            After a few moments the train came to a stop, and the doors all opened for the passengers to disembark. Although no pony got off except for Twilight and Arctic, who was in a salute stance as an embarrassed. Twilight stepped off of the train apologising to the passengers as she passed by them.

            “Now arriving in Ponyville The Princess of Friendship: Princess Twilight Sparkle.” Arctic said as he waited for her step off the train, with him following behind her. He looked around at the ponies that just stood there watching the two of them walk through the train station, and then outside. Arctic looked around the town, taking everything in as quickly as he could.He noticed group of ponies running up towards Princess Twilight, so on instinct he jumped in front of Twilight. His  horn glowing with a silver aura covering it.

            At seeing the strange unicorn leap in front of Twilight his horn glowing brightly Apple Jack slid to a stop a look of shock in her eyes. She eyed the unicorn wearily as he stood his ground ready to battle.

            “Uh sugar cube who’s the unicorn?” She asked as Twilight gently put a hoof on to Arctic’s shoulder smiling at him.

            “It’s ok Arctic these are my friends.” She said as he nodded and his horn stopped glowing as he stood up straight, he eyed the five other ponies, two pegasi, two earth, one unicorn. He committed all their distinct features to memory in case anything happened. He stood behind Twilight silently watching them talk to each other.

Rainbow Dash landed next to Apple Jack, eyeing the unicorn guard unsure of what she should make of him.

            “Hey Twilight who is the guard?” She asked pointing her hoof at Arctic while also looking at Twilight confused.

            “Oh i'm sorry girls this is Arctic Knight,” She said smiling as she waved him next to her, Arctic stepped up next to her silently. “He is the new head Captain.” She finished smiling at the girls.

            “So he is new to Ponyville?”  Pinkie Pie asked her eyes growing in excitement.

            “Yes, he is Pinkie.” Twilight said shaking her head smiling knowing what was about to happen. With that pinkie flew off a huge smile on her face. Twilight looked at Arctic.

            “Would you like to see the castle?” She asked Arctic smiling as she walked through the town with her friends.

            “That would be best milady.” He said simply as he looked around studying the  lay of the town memorising every detail and possible thing that could possibly bring harm to Princess Twilight. Finally after a few minutes of walking they arrived at The Castle of friendship. Arctic looked the castle unimpressed. Fluttershy saw the bored look on Arctic face and walked over to him.

            “Um hello i'm Fluttershy it is nice to meet you, mister Arctic Knight.” She said as Arctic looked at her his gray eyes seemingly looking into her soul. Suddenly Fluttershy gulped and shied away from the stern unicorn’s gaze which allowed him to go back to studying the castle silently.

            “Um Arctic are you coming in?” Twilight asked him as she noticed him standing there looking at the castle.

            “Hm oh forgive me Princess Twilight,” Knight said as he walked into the castle behind the group. “Milday may I know where my quarters will be?” He asked Twilight as he studied the inside of the castle while waiting on her answer.

            “Of course give a moment though I must speak to my friends then I will have spike take you to your room.” She said as her and the rest of the mane 6 walked into a room and closed the door behind them leaving Arctic alone in the hallway.

            “Well then I guess I will learn the lay of this castle myself.” He said as he started walking down a random hallway.
