Rainbow Dash had been walking around mindlessly in love all day, normally no pony would bat an eye at this can of behaviour but when it was Rainbow Dash the most amazing flyer in all of Equestria, they knew something was up and they were right. For today was Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy’s one-year anniversary. Rainbow was on cloud nine, quite literally.

The Rainbow maned Pegasus still couldn’t believe her luck, she had been dreaming about the shy animal loving Pegasus becoming hers for years before she finally confessed her feelings to Fluttershy and it still amazes her that the shy Pegasus agreed to be her special somepony. She could still remember that day like it was yesterday.

Rainbow Dash had offered to plan a private picnic for the two of them so that they could ‘catch up’ but in reality she had been planning to confess her feelings to her best friend since fillyhood. Rainbow had even enlisted the help of her friends, Applejack had agreed to let Rainbow Dash use a quite spot in the north orchard where Applejack usually went with Rarity on their picnic dates. Rarity offered to keep Fluttershy distracted at the spa while Rainbow Dash ran around town trying to get everything ready in time. Pinkie Pie had baked them special rainbow cupcakes with butterfly toppings for them to get after their sandwiches that Rainbow had prepared. Twilight helped by giving Rainbow Dash tips on what to say and what not to say, after all she had managed to court a certain blue princess by simply reading a book for advice. With all her friends helping she knew for sure that everything was going to be okay, except there was one thing that her friends couldn’t do…they couldn’t make Fluttershy return Rainbow Dash’s feelings.

Rainbow Dash sat nervously, while she was waiting for Fluttershy to show up at Sweet Apple Acers. She had finally got everything prepared, the sandwiches were in the basket waiting to be eaten, the blanket was sitting perfectly on the soft grass, the cupcakes were picked up and hidden in the basket, Rainbow Dash’s mane was sitting perfectly and she had even brushed her coat before coming.

Rainbow Dash was starting to worry, that was until she saw the beautiful yellow mare running towards her with her skin glowing from whatever girly treatment her and Rarity had gotten at the spa.

“Oh goodness, I’m so sorry Dashie. My spa trip with Rarity took longer than I thought. I hope you weren’t waiting too long.” Fluttershy quietly apologised when she finally reached a now sweating Rainbow Dash.

“It’s cool Flutters, you know I don’t mind waiting when it comes to my oldest friend!” Rainbow Dash said trying to sound as normal as possible, when in reality she was shaking inside about how she was finally going to admit her feelings for the pink maned mare.

“I was very happy when you suggested we catch up, it feels like I never see you these days unless we are helping Twilight with something...” Fluttershy said while taking a seat beside Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy had always been affectionate towards Rainbow Dash and today was no exception and Fluttershy had no problem sitting as close to Rainbow Dash as she could possibly get without actually sitting on her lap.

“Umm Flutters…you’re sitting a little close don’t you think.” Rainbow said nervously, normaly she wouldn’t mind but today Fluttershy’s touch was driving her crazy.

“I’m sorry Dashie…I didn’t think you would mind…you never usually do.” Fluttershy said while moving away from the mare of her dreams. Not that Fluttershy would ever admit it to anyone other than Rarity.

“No I’m sorry Flutters, I’m just feeling a little off today…by that I mean…well what I’m trying to say is that…” ‘Shit! What was it Twilight told me to say?!’ Rainbow Dash internally screamed while Fluttershy looked at the mare in confusion, she had never seen her friend this nervous before.

“Dashie are you okay?”

“No I’m not okay! I’m trying to tell the pony I love that I love her but I can’t seem to find the stupid words and now she’s gonna think I’m some idiot that can’t even form a sentence!” Rainbow Dash ranted without even realising that she had just confessed to Fluttershy that she is in love with her.

“You love me?” Fluttershy said once Rainbow Dash had finished ranted, realising what she had said finally Rainbow Dash’s face changed from blue to bright red. That was definitely not the way she wanted to tell Fluttershy how she felt.

“Umm…yeah I do…I kinda always have…I understand if you don’t feel the same way and I understand if you don’t want to hang out anymore but I just had to let it out, it was killing me having to lie about my fee-“ Fluttershy grabbed Rainbow Dash’s face and pulled her in for a long awaited kiss, after what felt like a lifetime to the two Pegasus mares they finally broke their first kiss with any pony ever.

“Wow…that was awesome!” Rainbow Dash shouted while flying up into the air to do a few flips air jumps, while Fluttershy looked up happily at the mare of her dreams.

“Yay…” Fluttershy did her best to match Rainbow Dash’s excitement, as Rainbow Dash flew back down to sit beside Fluttershy once again.

“So does this mean that you feel the same way?” Rainbow Dash asked, her eyes full of hope.

“Does this answer your question?” Before Rainbow Dash could question Fluttershy’s statement Fluttershy pulled her in for another passionate kiss.

“That is a yes right?” Rainbow Dash asked once the kiss was broken.

“Yes…it’s a yes! I have loved you for as long as I can remember, but I’ve always been too scared to tell you in case you didn’t feel the same way.” Fluttershy confessed before moving to lay down on the blanket. Taking the hint Rainbow Dash moved to lay down beside her and in one swift move wrapped Fluttershy in one of her blue wings.

“I felt the same way Flutters, I’m just glad I finally got up the courage to tell you how I feel.” Rainbow said while nuzzling her muzzle into the side of Fluttershy’s neck. The two lay like that for a few hours simply just enjoying that they could hold each other like this at last.

“Dashie?” Fluttershy asked while stroking Rainbow Dash’s rainbow mane.

“Yeah Flutters.” Rainbow said while looking over at Fluttershy.

“Does this mean that we are marefriends now?” She asked quietly.

“I mean I guess…umm I really wanted to be, do you?” Rainbow said nervously.

“I’d love too...I love you Rainbow Dash!” Fluttershy said while leaning over to capture Rainbow’s lips for the hundredth time that day.

That day had been one of Rainbow Dash’s all-time favourites, but today she was going to add a new one to her list of favourites. Because today was the day that she was going to ask the mare of her dreams to marry her…here’s hoping she says yes.
