Void: Love in the dark

A heavy wind blew over the far north, sweeping up large swaths of snow. Although the snow swirling around could cause frostbite to anypony, it melted as soon as the flakes came within the boundaries of the Crystal Empire, the magic from the Crystal Heart forming a magical barrier of warmth. The crystal ponies were trotting along the streets, smiles adorning their faces. However, a ways away, a large mass of magic was forming and taking shape. The black magic formed and solidified into the body of a medium sized stallion, his eyes closed. After a few seconds the stallion's eyes snapped open and rolled back as he took a loud gasp.

Sombra shakily got to his hooves, swaying in the wind. He shook his head and moaned, disoriented by the sudden resurrection. His mind was clean of any corruption from before his death, causing him to feel shame and overwhelming guilt as he remembered what he'd done. His ears were pinned back as he started forwards. He didn't know here he was going, just that the faint glow in the distance meant doom for him.

Sombra walked for months, traveling from town to town, even stumbling across a rock farm of all things. The ponies there, who spoke in the oddest way, gave him food and shelter for a few days before he continued. Eventually, he found himself in Canterlot, which is where the story really begins.

Sombra trotted through the bustling streets of Canterlot, his eyes wide in awe. Sure he'd been here before his... incident. The city had really grown since then, however, and he was truly humbled.
