The Ones They Lost: twilight
Big mistake
It's been hard. Hard to keep up with her. Hard to keep things as stable and happy as possible despite all of the resent events, what with my beloved Twilight becoming a princess and all. It's not that I blame her of course, I'm happy she became a princess and an alicorn; it's just that life got more complicated is all. We barely see each other anymore, or more specifically I barely get to see her anymore. She's either too busy with her "Princess Duties" as she likes to call it, or she's dragged away by various nobles trying to get her to sign all kinds of bullshit laws that would obviously only benefit themselves, hell, sometimes the "guards" outside won't let me in the treebary (Twilight's house) at all. I miss the days when we would just read each other stories in the treebary, or those simple picnics on the hill near town, and all around just spend time with each other. Nowadays most ponies don't even know we'r married.
Regardless, I stay positive, for myself, for Twilight, and most importantly for our yet to be born child. Just the thought of that last one made me smile wildly, I've always wanted to be a father, and now I'm finally going to be one; with a beautiful wife to boot.
Shaking my head, I close up the shop and make my way back home. Sure being the local blacksmith didn't really pay much for all the work that's put into it, but I wanted to earn the money that would be used for raising our coming child, not just take from the royal treasury. I'm not some slob that just takes money for my every need, even when Celestia herself said that we could.
Upon reaching the massive tree house I noticed a distinct lack of guards. At first I thought nothing of it, then I started to fear Twilight's safety. What if something happened and she's hurt, or worse. Quickly dashing around the house I found know trace of her, I checked every room and she was no where to be seen. Just as I was about to panic the door opened and Twilight came in, giving me a weird look.
"What's wrong honey?"
Giving out a big exhale of breath, I calmed myself before speaking. "It's just that the guards outside were gone and you didn't tell me that you were going somewhere. I was worried."
" I sent them back to Canterlot. They were harassing some foals that were trying to enter the library." Twilight shook her head then smiled as she walked up to me and hugged my torso. "Your too protective, you know that."
I chuckled a little and scratched her behind the ear making her hum contently. "Only to you Twi. Not to mention your carrying precious cargo now." I felt her stiffen at that last one. "Something wrong Twi?"
"Honey...we need to talk." she said as I let go and walked to a nearby closet.
"Sure Twi, just gonna put today's earnings with the others, wouldn't want to forget like that ti-" I cut myself of when I opened the cabinet, only to see an empty jar where all the savings I've worked hard for used to be. "Twi...did you get all our savings?" I asked with slight fear in my voice.
"Yes." was her only answer.
"Why?"
"I...used it for something."
"...Y-yeah. I-it's, probably something for the kid...right?" I asked while stuttering, hoping that's the answer.
"You could say that."
"Well what is it. You know doesn't matter, I know the kid's gonna love it."
"Honey...I-I didn't get anything."
"Well, what did you spend it for? That was our savings for when-"
"I got rid of it." I felt like my world crashed at that moment.
"Got...got rid of w-what honey?" I asked hoping that I just misunderstood.
"The baby, it's gone. I got rid of it." she said.

...
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!" I Laughed loudly. "Good one Twi, kinda dark for my tastes, but-"
"I'm not joking...It's gone." she interrupted me.
My eyes start to tear up "...Why?". Thoughts start to pop in my mind, all the plans I had for my child. To watch them grow up, to play with them, to hold them. All of those thoughts were shattered into a million pieces.
"WHY?!? HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TWILIGHT?!?" she cringed, not only because I shouted, but also because I used her full name. I never use her full name. "THAT WAS A LIVING BREATHING BEING IN THE MAKING TWILIGHT, MORE THAN THAT, THAT WAS OUR CHILD!!!"
"Wait Listen, please let me explain." she begged.
"How?! How could you possibly explain killing our baby?!"
"It's been hard ok!" she shouted. "It's been hard keeping up with everything that's been going on, learning to be a proper princess, dealing with the nobles, not being able to spend time with you anymore! It's all been so tiring and stressful, and the thought of more responsibilities being thrown my way...I can't handle that!"
I was shocked by what she said, but my anger didn't dissipate at all, "And the savings, how do you explain that, I also know that no one in their right mind would give an abortion to the new princess?" I said in a softer voice but my anger was still very evident.
"I know, nopony I went to would allow it, added the fact that I knew Princess Celestia would never lend me money for this reason. So I looked a little deeper and found a former doctor who was ok with the procedure if I had enough bits. But I didn't have enough, so I got money from the only place I could at the moment."
"..." I stayed silent as I processed the information given to me. I didn't blink, I didn't move, I'm pretty sure I stopped breathing, I just felt dead inside.
"Honey?" she said as she reached a hoof at me, only for me to slap it away when it got too close.
"Don't touch me." I said in I threatening manner. "And don't call me that, you lost the right to when you killed our child!" all form of control I had left was thrown out the window as I stood at full height, easily towering over her as my eyes bore through her soul. "To hard for you?! Are you shitting me?! You think that your the only one feeling like that?! Through out you being a new princess I suffered just as much as you! I dare say even more than you! I also have responsibilities, I also have ponies breathing down my neck, I'm also stressed, I also miss spending time with you, but did you see me complain?! Did you see me give up when your guards kept keeping me out of the house?! Did you see me give up when I had to sleep outside, sometimes in the rain?! Did you see me give up when ponies insult me by saying that I didn't deserve you, or by saying that they didn't even know we are married?! Did you see me give up when I worked day and night to earn enough money to support our child in the future?! I didn't, and you want to know why?! I didn't give up because I knew that eventually all this would blow over, or decline at the very least! I knew that eventually we would be able to cope and spend time not only with each other, but also with our child! That's why I didn't give up, because I had you and the baby to steel my resolve! And now?! What do I have to work for anymore?" I said in a softer voice as I finally let the water works out. I fell to my knees as I wrapped my arms around myself in a self given hug. "I lost my child, all the money I worked for to support said child has been spent. And to make it all worse, the mare I gave my everything for, the one who I love with all my being, betrayed my trust and broke my heart." I finally fully broke down as I my shouting was reduced to mere whimpers and sobs.
Twilight POV
What have I done? He was right, I gave up too easily, compared to him what I went through was nothing. He gave his everything and never complained once, and what did I do? I gave up, killed my own child, and broke the heart of the man I love. Tears started to fall down my cheeks as I stared at my completely broken husband. How could I do this to him, he was always there for me and gave up everything for me, and this is is how I repay him? Just as I was about to reach out to him, he stopped sobbing and slowly stood up. His long bangs covered his eyes as what's left of his face showed no emotion minus the tears still streaking down his cheeks. He then slowly pulled up his sleeve to reveal his marriage band, the one that was exactly the same as mine. "He...he can't....he couldn't" this played over and over in my mind before my fears were realized as he removed it from his wrist and dropped it right in front of me. I stared at it in shock as my now former husband wordlessly turned around and made his way to the door.
"No! Wait!" I shouted as I hugged his leg. "Please, I'm sorry, I didn't think this out through. Please don't leave me." I begged pitifully to the man I love. "Please."
"To late for apologies, you don't deserve forgiveness, especially from me." he said in a neutral and emotionless tone.
"I know I'm sorry! Let me make it up to you, hit me, punish me, do whatever you want to me! But please...just don't leave me...I don't want to lose you too."
I looked up at him hope fully...only for it to disappear the moment I finally saw his eyes. Where they were once full of love and compassion not moments ago, now only showed emptiness and cold indifference. Any form of hope I had left was crushed in an instant with what he said next.
"You already have."
It was over, whatever love we once had was now gone...and it's all my fault. My husband, my child, our future together as a happy family...it's all gone now. He slowly removed his leg from my weakened hooves and continued his way to the door. I wanted to stop him again, to beg him to give me another chance, but I didn't have the strength to...I didn't have the right. All I could do was watch him leave the room as he closed the door behind him. I reached out my foreleg towards the door, as if hoping I could still reach out to him...but I knew better.
Lowering my foreleg, I slowly made my way to bed before climbing under the covers. The bed felt so...cold, uncomfortable...empty. I remember how he would wrap his arms around me, how he would keep me warm and safe every night. I remembered all the things we did on this bed, the time he read me a book before sleeping, all the times we cuddled and kissed, the first time he made love to me and all the times after that. I curled into a fetal position under the blanket as I kept praying that once I woke up, I would wake up in his arms as he would look down at me with his loving eyes and he would caress my mane and scratch my ear like he always does. Yeah, this all just a nightmare, just one big nightmare. With that thought I smiled slightly at the thought, ohh I can't wait to wake up and tell him all about this horrible nightmare, to just cry into his chest as he comforts me, whispering sweet nothings into my ear. With that thought I closed my eyes, waiting to wake up in his arms again.
After all it is all just a nightmare right?
