"What in Equestria do you think you're doing?" A certain purple unicorn asked one sunny evening in Ponyville, after a winged daredevil crashed though her window.
"Being awesome." the pegasus replied as she shook her coat, and little shards of glass flew everywhere. She cringed, the shards were stuck in her coat and her mane. This would be a pain to get out.
"Rainbow Dash are you okay?" Twilight said, now noticing the blood running in little rivulets down Rainbow's pelt.
"Yeah, just a little banged up." Rainbow answered, checking out her injuries. Then, seeming to remember about the property damage, she showed a sheepish stroke of humility. "Sorry Twilight."
"Sorry Twilight?"
Rainbow nodded mechanically, wondering why the other mare was repeating what she'd said.
"What on Earth were you thinking-"
"I know- I know, okay? But your window isn't too badly damaged."
"You could've hurt yourself!" Twilight said, wondering when the other mare would figure out she could crash through her window anytime she'd like. Of course these frustrations manifested through disappointed bodily gurgles.
"At least I didn't die." Rainbow deadpanned.
"For pony's sake, Rainbow! Sometimes I just get so mad at you. And I can't even get that mad because I would feel too guilty. Because you seriously could've hurt yourself!", Twilight said, still freaking out.
"I know," Rainbow said, rolling her eyes.
"Just be careful!", Twilight said, taking Rainbow's face in her hooves.
Rainbow smirked. "Twilight," she said nervously but teasingly in her raspy voice, "getting a little close there are we?"
Twilight immediately backed off, putting her two front hooves back on the ground.
"You don't have to hide your feelings from me.", Rainbow said, trying to imitate Twilight and almost succeeding.
Twilight scoffed. "Rainbow Dash!"
"I mean, Twilight, I knew you totally had a thing for me ever since I was helping AJ take apart her old barn."
"You mean dive-bomb it!"
"No I mean take apart."
"Rainbow Dash!"
"Hush Twilight, the teacher is talking," Rainbow joked.
"Yeah, Rainbow Dash? Well that teacher is seriously hurt, and she better get her reckless butt over here so I can fix her!", Twilight said, panting with anger.
"Lemme think.", Rainbow Dash said teasingly. "Hmmm. Nope."
"What do you mean 'nope.'?! Let me help you!"
"Somepony's really eager to 'help'", Rainbow said slyly, making quotation marks on the word help, sure that help implied something more. Hidden feelings, perhaps. Rainbow Dash felt she could have more fun with this. "Have any good books?"
Rainbow flew over to Twilight's nightstand. "Romance, huh?", Rainbow said looking at Twilight's book selection. "Ooh. And girl x girl. Aren't you a naughty filly?"
"Rainbow Dash!", Twilight yelled again, failing to notice that the pegasus had moved on from her nightstand and started to peruse through her desk drawers. "That is an invasion of privacy!", she yelled loudly.
"Is it? I had no clue!", Rainbow said dryly.
Twilight realized what she had put in the right drawer. She also realized just how stupid it was to have put her diary in plain sight when you open up the right drawer. She also realized how incredibly doubly stupid it was since she had written down how she may or may not feel about the rainbow haired pegasus.
But now she knew. As annoying as Rainbow was, she liked her. The concern she had felt for Rainbow just now, was more than the concern for a friend. And it was time to accept it.
But that didn't mean Rainbow had to ever know!
Twilight teleported in front of her desk heaving. Eye twitching. She growled one word at Rainbow Dash. And that one word was "No." One word was enough. Combine that menacingly growled dialogue, her facial expression, and her mane that could easily burst into flames, and Twilight was a fire hazard Rainbow no longer wanted to mess with.
"Hehe," Rainbow nervously laughed. "I'll just hit the hay now," she said, and rocketed back to her house as fast as her wings could carry her.
But later that night....
Rainbow snuck in Twilight's window, darting past her bedside, having an ample amount of stealth, despite what everypony else thought. She flew to Twilight's desk, but then hesitated. Was it right to do this? Did she really wanna know the truth? Did she wanna risk getting caught by Twilight? Mad Twilight was not a cute Twilight!
'Wait, hold on, did I say, 'cute Twilight?'', she asked herself as she reached for the drawer. 'It was possible that the possibility of Twilight having an interest in me may have awakened some feelings. Gah! Oh horse apples, now I sound like the egghead herself.'
Rainbow looked back at Twilight, sleeping peacefully.
'Sleeping Twilight isn't as bad as normal Twilight. In fact, yeah, she does look pretty cute.'
Rainbow's hoof grasped the left drawer knob. She pulled it open. It made a little creak. Rainbow looked back, Twilight was still snoozing, so Rainbow was safe and sound. For now. She pulled out all the items. Not a single thing that Twilight would freak out over her seeing was there.
She pulled the right drawer. It made an extremely loud creak! Spike stirred a bit. But he wasn't the big problem. Then Rainbow remembered that Twilight was an extremely heavy sleeper. How else would she and Pinkie have been able to pull off that prank where they super silly stringed her entire house?
Rainbow looked at her right drawer. The item on top was Twilight's diary, and Rainbow knew it was sort of crossing a line, and there were two warring voices in her head. One was telling her to leave and be morally justified, and the other was telling her to screw being morally justified, and find out just what the egghead is hiding. Unfortunately for Twilight, the second voice won. Nothing personal, it was just way louder. So Rainbow opened up the dairy, and began reading. Holy Celestia! There's a table of contents!
'Haha!', Rainbow said to herself, 'classic adorable egghead Twilight. Wait, adorable?'
Rainbow shook her thoughts off and looked at the table of contents. 'Celestia and I?', boring. 'My time with potions?', double blech. But 'Rainbow and I?' Solid gold baby! Rainbow did a flip in the air.
'Now to get to that page', Rainbow thought to herself. It took quite a few minutes, Twilight actually had a few other things on the way Rainbow couldn't resist reading. And Twilight should have wrote less interesting stuff, because Rainbow was gonna hold this over her head for years to come. But when Rainbow did finally get to the chapter entry thing on her and Twilight, she was surprised. She was expecting some quick drabble. Nothing more nothing less. But that is not what she got. To her shock, she discovered that the chapter about her and Twilight, was the longest chapter in the book. And probably still recording.
Rainbow began to read.
First entry...
Today Rainbow drove me insane! Everypony knows that it's 'Fluttershy and I,' not 'me and Fluttershy.' She refused to listen, so I thought, hey, why not vent about my problems with her in here? Anyway, it's getting late, so I figured I would write more tomorrow. Good night diary!

Rainbow remembered that day. She had driven Twi insane! Wait, Twi? Where are all these cutesy nicknames and compliments coming from?

Today Rainbow took ~~me and Fluttershy~~ Fluttershy and I, to see the Wonderbolts. Which somehow lead us onto the topic of her Sonic Rainboom. Couldn't imagine why, but she still refuses to believe that it's not physically possible!

Okay, Rainbow was getting sick of these... She decided to skip ahead to the most recent entry.
Today's entry...
Today Rainbow almost saw this, almost found out. I cannot let her see this!
'To late for that,' Rainbow thought.
I really like her!
'What?', Rainbow thought.
She's brave and fearless, and really, really strong. She's not scared of anything!
'Yep,' Rainbow nodded to herself.
I mean, Celestia knows how much I want her!
'Wait, hold on, Celestia knows Twi Twi is crushing on me? Wait, did I just call her Twi Twi?!'
Anyway, I would just die if she found this. I really hope she isn't offense either. I mean, somepony like her falling for somepony like me? Impossible.

Then that was the last most recent entry. And Rainbow wanted to scream to the world, 'Twilight the egghead likes me?! And I think I might want her too!' But Rainbow also wanted to curl up in a little ball of self loathing, because would Twi Twi really die if she knew Rainbow had read her diary? It was a pretty huge invasion of privacy. And Rainbow was lost in thought until she heard a pony clear her throat behind her. Rainbow gulped.
"What do you think you're doing with my diary?", the voice from behind asked.
"Uh, cleaning it?", Rainbow stuttered, slowly turning toward the voice to face her doom.
"No you were snooping in it weren't you?!", the voice accused. "But it doesn't matter anyway. You know, don't you?"
Rainbow nodded in confirmation, facing the voice.
"Then what are you waiting for exactly? Fly home."
"But why?", Rainbow asked, as the voice of Twilight walked toward her balcony along with the purple unicorn as well, now visible in the moonlight.
"Well I'm not stupid enough to actually expect somepony like you to like me back., Twilight said, reaching her balcony, and staring out at the stars.
"Well somepony has an inferiority complex.", Rainbow said, whistling, as she trotted over to Twilight.
"What? I do not! How do you know that word?!", Twilight said.
"Spending time around an adorable egghead has its perks.", Rainbow answered absentmindly, then turned the other way to hide the red explosion blossoming across her cheeks.
"What?", Twilight asked, a smile in her words.
"You know what I said," Rainbow mumbled.
"I don't believe I do!", Twilight said uncertainly, then flicked Rainbow's mane playfully.
"Hey!", Rainbow said, then grabbed Twilight's hoof with a hard glare directed her way.
Twilight lowered her gaze, intimidated, "sorry," she mumbled.
"Hey," Rainbow said more softly, putting her hoof beneath Twilight's chin to lift her head up to meet hers.
So their eyes were leveled. So their lips were apart a couple of inches.
"I know you like me. And you don't have to be intimidated or think I'm so much better than you are. I know it's hard, though.", Rainbow said, flashing a smirk during the last sentence.
"But I'm nothing but an egghead to you.", Twilight, said, her eyes darting anywhere but at the multicolored pegasus in front of her.
"Aw c'mon, Twi Twi. I'm just kidding.", Rainbow added. Cringing at Twilight's nickname.
"Twi Twi?", Twilight asked. "So I have a pet name now," she said, some of her confidence returning.
"Yeah I guess you do," Rainbow said, her hoof rubbing the back of her neck in sheepish embarrassment.
"Hehe.", Twilight laughed nervously. "So you do like me?"
"I believe I do," Rainbow said, casually.
"You really do? Or are you must saying that? Because if you're just saying that-"
Twilight got cut off by Rainbow's kiss. Rainbow brought her other hoof up to stroke Twilight's mane, and they both gleamed in the moonlight. Rainbow kissed her, long and deep. Passionately, too. At times it was rough, and at times it was soft. But Rainbow knew what she had to do. So she kept working her magic, lengthening the kiss, and running her hoof down Twilight's flank. Finally Rainbow broke off from the kiss.
"Twi, I really do like you. A lot."
Twilight just mumbled something in shock.
"Anyway, I'll see ya tomorrow!"
And Rainbow took Twilight's diary with her.
The next morning when Twilight woke up, and discovered her dairy was gone, guess what she said?
"RAINBOWWWW DASHHHH!"
