To Control the Very Essence of Magic Itself

I remember when I was simply just a foal that I loved to practice my magic and read books upon how to harness my power and make my magic even better. Countless hours of my life were spent reading book after book and learning techniques from the books themselves. At a young age I was proficient in levitation magic, something that the usual Unicorn around their teenage years would struggle to understand and execute. I had participated in a multitude of magic contests and had won nearly all of them (I let some slip so that others could win). I was considered a magic prodigy, one that was capable of impressive feats. But in my situation I was not able to be fully recognized for my talents. Living in Manehatten and under a poorer conditions than the usual Manehattener, I wasn't able to attend the schools where Celestia would recruit for her School for Gifted Unicorns. My parent's couldn't afford it. So I had to resort to public school where they taught me the usual curriculum, quite poorly actually. While others were out trying to become adults in many ways (many of which I dissaproved of) I was at home studying my magic and my studies themselves. But as soon as I was done with my high school years, I went against the standard path off going to college and studying. I went into the Royal Guard. I had actually planned to join the Royal Guard five years before I was able to (the age to join was 18). I had trained hard in order to excel at basic training and breeze through it.

When I had arrived at the training camp it was nothing like I expected, it was actually kind of easy. I know that's extremely odd to say and makes me look perfect but I actually wasn't. I was extremely flawed with my social capabilities. I didn't get along well with others and sometimes actually blew into all out fights that I didn't want. Ponies were envious of me and they hated me for that very reason. During camp, I actually wished I had led a normal life at times instead of becoming a well trained soldier right from the start. But I continued on, trudging through the days of boot camp and getting into more fights and arguments with my "comrades". I then graduated and I was finally through standard training. I had moved on from those days.

After a while, brass eventually recognized my capabilities of fighting and handling myself. They trusted me and I was then placed on an elite squad that was responsible for the infiltration of enemy strongholds. Specifically Griffin, Dragon, and Changeling strongholds. My first mission was Operation: Jiunsya (Old Griffin for Bloodheart). As the language suggests we (meaning the three of us) were to infiltrate a Griffin stronghold and acquire intelligence. The method was entirely up to ourselves. We had decided to enter stealthily and acquire the intelligence. Ravenheart, was the only stallion sent in and was responsible for infiltrating the stronghold itself. Sheathed Light was the mare responsible for long range engagements and gave supporting fire for Ravenheart. As for I, I was responsible for calling out targets ahead for Ravenheart and Sheathed Light. The mission had gone perfectly well, I had managed to call out multiple targets that had line of sight of where Ravenheart was going and how far Sheathed Light had to aim. We acquired the intelligence we needed and sneaked out of there  undetected. I still can't say what the intel was for if I were to write it here, I would have my head hunted for it is extremely sensitive intel. I continued my operations with great success and I slowly rose up the ranks. But eventually on May third, a year before Nightmare Moons insurrection, I was honored with being promoted to Commanding Major. I was the only five to exist, two others were actually my comrades (take note I didn't place quotes), Ravenheart and Sheathed Light.

Ravenheart and Sheathed Lightning found themselves as field commanding Majors, leading troops and training them. As for I, well I actually served as a mentor for the Night Guard and doing some logistics. It wasn't how I imagined my military career ending, but I did find something that was quite interesting. While I was on some downtime (which is usually the day) I like to go through the old archives of the Canterlot Library and see if there are any books that relate to magic. I had found many books that intrigued me and I read upon them such as a full book containing all of Star Swirl the Bearded's reports about his studies in magic. He was essentially the first pioneer that really went into complex magic then everyone else based their studies off of him. Everything in there I kind of already knew, I actually didn't know that there's are actual molecules that contains high amounts of energy within the atmosphere of this world and essentially powers our capabilities of being unicorns. Although massive learning point, it actually wasn't the most intriguing amount of info I had actually learned.

While browsing through the old archives I had found something quite interesting. Books that has records of something I never thought was even possible. These books tell that there were four alicorn orders. The Steel Order, The Diamond Order, The Keeping Order, and the Enlightened Order. Each one was responsible for sustaining a certain aspect of a ponies life. All of them had different counterparts that one Alicorn was responsible for fufilling his or her duty for.

The Steel Order was responsible for everything war related. They were expert soldiers that had harnassed their power and had channeled into three different types of power.

The raw power of kinetic, making them capable of harnessing the clouds above them, the wind bowed before them, the tides turned to their favor, everything that was moving in nature was under their command. Those who harnessed this power were called "Harbingers".  To directly quote the book of the Harbinger's power, "You are the Harbinger, everything in nature bows before you, you announce the approach of your enemies doom."

Another kind of power was the sun itself and everything that warms. Those who harnessed this power were capable summoning a powerful axe at their own choosing and to directly quote the book itself, "May Celestia have mercy upon their souls for if any creature of evil will vanquish under the searing blades of this flaming axe" Those who harnessed this power were called "Atlas's".

The other kind of power was the harnessing of the night itself. It binds the shadows of the night to the wielders own will. Entirely reliant upon stealth those who harnessed this power could completely shroud themselves in the shadows and hit the enemy unknowingly. They were responsible for spying and acquiring intel and using the night to serve their purposes. Those who harnessed this power called themselves "Predators". To directly quote the book itself of the Predators Power: "Those who harness this power manipulate the shadows to their own will and are masters of stealth. But if encountered in direct combat, good luck trying to hit them."

As for the Diamond Order there was only one class that truly intrigued me (the other was simply managing economics), The "Earth-Callers".They harnessed the earth to their own will and make resources appear from the earth in large quantities. But they were also fluent in the art of combat, they could manipulate the earth to send spike surging from the ground into their enemies. They could also form armor made of rock and protect them from the worst of blows, even heavy magic attacks too. The book says the following about their power: "You are an Earth Caller, you bring resources to the world and allow for lesser ponies to build great structures and their homes. But you can harness your power for combat too. Your enemies will find your armor unbreakable, much like your will for a greater tomorrow. But your enemies will not see the earth that penetrates their bodies."

The Keeping Order had only one that was combat related for the Keeping Order was mostly government related things. This class was the "Vanguard". Responsible for maintaining the ideas of the civilization he or she serves under. The Vanguard Class police those who are unruly against their leaders and believe with their leader(s). Although they believe with their leader's, The Vanguard can be a double edged sword for if they no longer believe in their leader they can unite a whole civilization and overthrow their leader(s). The Vanguard also has a multitude of non-lethal and lethal attacks, some which include stunning an unruly citizen (or enemy) or engaging at a long distance by what they called "sniping". The book has to say this about the Vanguard, "The Vanguard is the most influence based class in the Alicorn Orders, they're a double edged sword. Lead well and they will be a great ally. Lead poorly and you will fall."

The very last class comes from the Enlightened Order. There are actually three classes from  the Enlightened Order, The Controller of Day, The Controller of the Night, and The Sentinel. If you don't know the Controller of the Day is Celestia and the Controller of the Night is Luna. But the Sentinel is the Guardian of both of these Controllers and is responsible for giving all of their heart and effort in order to protect the controllers. Although they may seem like a normal guard at first, they're actually not, The Sentinel always knows when there is a disruption within the flow of time and day. They are capable of doing a multitude of attacks (all lethal) if the Controllers are ever attacked. They know when something is wrong and will immediately resolve the problem. The book has to say this about The Sentinel: "The first and last line of defense for the Controllers, The Sentinel is in tune with the world around him or her and will always know when something is awry. Although sounding like the perfect soldier, The Sentinel remains quiet at all times and if it ever speaks, it is something more rare than Tartaurus opening it's gates open and unleashing hell."

I looked at this and I found that there were six paths I could choose to have even more power and possibly even become and Alicorn myself. But I had one singular question: "What happened to these orders and Classes, only two-thirds of the Enlightened Order still remain. Maybe if I choose one I'll discover the history behind that order and what truly happened to them. But in the process, I'll probably need to master the class and learn it's secrets too." I know it sound's cheesy but I feel that if I want to uncover the truth I'll have to dive into the classes's history head first.

I was left with six choices and I could only choose one:

Harbinger

Atlas

Predator

Earth-Caller

Vanguard

Sentinel
