A Dash of Zap
The Date
Previous ChapterNext Chapter--------a couple minutes later at CHS...
Indigo jumped out of her car, sprinting down to CHS's field, and not stopping until she reached the edge of it.
Sunny Flare and the other CPA crew got out of their car, and ran until they could find a good spot to hide.
Indigo looked up from the ground she had been staring at, panting from running all the way down the hill to the soccer field. And then she saw Rainbow, and Rainbow saw her.
'Shit,' Indigo thought.
'Shit', Rainbow thought as well.
Then they each thought, 'I knew it.'
And then they both cursed Rarity for putting them in such an awkward situation. Silently, of course.
Indigo slowly jogged over to Rainbow.
"Hey.", Rainbow said casually, keeping her cool.
"Hey.", Indigo said back.
A pink head popped out of a bush surrounding the field. "Hay is for horses!", it said. Loudly. Then a white hand grabbed the head and forced it back down.
Rainbow knew Rarity would want to see her idea through. Darn Rarity.
"So, you're like me, huh?", Rainbow asked.
"Yeah, sorta. I mean I guess...", Indigo said, awkwardly.
"So you're 'headstrong?'", Rainbow said making air quotes around the word headstrong.
"Apparently. They did think I was the only one who could match you in self confidence."
Applejack huffed in the bush. She and Rarity had returned to it briefly after Rarity had poked her with a stick a couple of times. Because according to Rarity, she couldn't get too dirty. It would ruin her dress.
"Ya know those are just nice ways of saying that we're both stubborn and cocky, right?", Rainbow asked, cocking her head and smirking.
"Oh yeah.", Indigo replied lukewarmly, smirking right back.
"Well as long as we're here...", Rainbow said, gesturing to the soccer ball.
"You wanna play a game dontcha?", Indigo asked.
"I think it'll get the bush people to come out," Rainbow remarked casually as she pointed at the bush where the pink head had popped out of, and another bush on the other side of the field.
"Well, I can see your friends, but why are you pointing to that other bush?", Indigo asked skeptically.
"Really?", Rainbow asked.
Indigo just shook her head.
"You think I was the only one that was followed?", Rainbow said, a smirk gracing her lips. "That's adorable."
"Don't call me adorable.", Indigo said, rolling her eyes. "And I'm going to give them a piece of my mind!", Indigo said, yelling louder than Lemon Zest, and marching over toward the bush.
But Rainbow grabbed her wrist and whispered, "don't be so impulsive, let's just play a game of soccer. At least humor them. If this doesn't at least work a little bit, Rarity is going to set me up with Pinkie or something."
"Fine!", Indigo said after a mini stare off with the rainbow haired athlete. And then Indigo yanked her wrist back.
Rainbow just laughed, and said "feisty."
"Whatever Crash, just get to playing!", Indigo said, the competition already giving her a newfound sense of confidence.
Rainbow was offended that Indigo would dare use her old school nickname against her, but she didn't let it show. Instead, she reeled a ball in, and set some terms. "First to five wins.", she suggested. Well, less like suggested, more like commanded. And Indigo would not have it.
"How about first to ten?", Indigo suggested, more like commanded.
"First to fifteen!", Rainbow said, and tried to regain control of the situation.
"No first to twenty!", Indigo said, trying to take intitiative.
"First to fifty take it or leave it!", Rainbow shouted.
"This is getting quite out of hand, I hope Indigo sees reason.", Rarity said, peering through the bush.
"I'm just glad Zappie didn't stand her up. Our poor Dashie would've been heartbroken!", Pinkie said, peeking over the plant, exaggerating a little bit. Okay a lot.
"ONE HUNDRED!", Indigo shouted.
"Nope.", Rainbow said.
"WHAT?", Indigo said.
"Relax, I'm kidding. We can go all the way to freaking hundred if you want and end up sweaty like pigs, and cranky like old people. Your choice.", Rainbow said calmly.
Indigo just stared at Rainbow. "5 goals it is," Indigo said.
"Great!", Rainbow said. "You want the ball?"
"You think you're so good don't you?", Indigo asked jokingly. Sneering.
Indigo went to kick it, but Rainbow got there first, pulling the same move she pulled on Twilight Sparkle. Then the ball went in the goal as if being pulled by a magnet.
Indigo proceeded to get whooped by Rainbow. At first, she had the ball, and was doing fairly decent, until Rainbow swooped in, and stole it a second before she kicked it. She spun around, still in shock. Only to see Rainbow kick and score the first point from the halfway point on the field. Rainbow pumped her fist in the air, and went to retrieve the ball. For the second point opportunity, Rainbow had the ball, only to have it stolen by Indigo. "Hey!", Rainbow said.
"Hey what?", Indigo said and scored this time. She had the ball again, and Rainbow stole it, again. Indigo was in hot pursuit, chasing her. "Hey!", Indigo shouted.
"Sorry, can't hear you over my awesomeness", Rainbow said. Indigo couldn't compete with Rainbow's point blank shooting skills, so she scored another goal, bringing the total to 2-1. It went on like this for a while, each of them showing off, until they were tied 4-4. Neither of them knew it, but the bush people were intensely watching them.
"Who do you think will win?", Pinkie asked.
"Want kind a stupid question is that?", Applejack asked.
Rainbow had the ball. All the other times Indigo had stolen it. But this time, Rainbow was confident that she would get this last point. She would win this. She surged ahead, pounding the ball forward with her feet like a natural-born soccer player. Then out of nowhere, Indigo came out and stole it. Rainbow wasn't letting her get it that easily though. Indigo wasn't expecting a chase, so she slowed. Rainbow stole the ball back from her, and rocketed toward the goal with that ball like she was a bomb and was about to blow. Rainbow ran in circles on the field, doing tricks and showing off. Finally, from the other side of the field, when Indigo was about one foot behind her, Rainbow kicked it. It soared up, through the air. And it hit the net, and bounced to land in the grass. Indigo's mouth once again fell open. Rainbow turned around. "To answer your question," she said, filled with the pride of a game won, "I do think I'm good. In fact," she continued, "I think that I'm amazing. Do you have an objection?" Indigo stayed silent. "Good," Rainbow continued.
After a while, Indigo's mouth worked again, and she challenged Rainbow to a kick off. In other words, see how many balls they can get in the net in a row.
Rainbow won that.
The bush that was housing Indigo's friend had a loud, "COME ON!", announced from it. Unlocking a primal urge in Indigo to go strangle Lemon Zest.
But it really got interesting when they started to scrimmage. All they needed to do was get one goal. But see there was lots of close bodily contact, and one like Rainbow Dash would use that to her advantage.
Indigo had the ball, and was doing good dribbling it to the goal. She was about halfway there when Rainbow began her assault. She kicked the ball out of Indigo's reach, dribbling over to her goal, only to have the ball kicked out from between her legs by her opponent. As you can probably imagine, Rainbow did not like this. Especially since Rainbow was not a very patient girl. And of course this went on for several minutes. And when she managed to drive Indigo and the ball back far enough toward her net, she 'accidentally' bumped her lips into Indigo's in a steamy, long kiss. Which was just long enough to put Indigo in such a haze that Rainbow could win. Rainbow dribbled over to the net, taking her time while Indigo touched her lips in confusion.
And then Rainbow made the shot, and got the winning goal. Because she's Rainbow Dash, and there are very few things she won't do to win.
Rainbow pumped her fist in the air and yelled. "Aw yeah! Three games in a row!", while Indigo just looked like a poor confused salmon in the Zoo's bear habitat.
Pinkie's mouth dropped open.
Rarity shrieked.
Applejack steamed.
Fluttershy blushed.
Sour Sweet said a few sarcastic choice words. Such as, "Well that's just fucking great!"
Lemon Zest just screamed "CHEATER!"
Rainbow walked over to Indigo and said, "I hope you brought Gatorade or something."
Indigo was still in shock. A blush covered her face entirely.
"Well at least it's not as awkward as before.", Rainbow said, joking.
"C'mere," Indigo said, regaining her senses, and pulling Rainbow up the hill toward the bleachers. And then they went behind the bleachers.
"You won like 20 times, at least let me have this!", Indigo said, rolling her eyes for the second time that day.
"Okay you're right, I was pretty awesome...", Rainbow said trailing off. "So yeah you can have 'this', whatever that means." Rainbow paused for a second, and asked, "what does that mean?", but was cut off by Indigo grabbing her by the back of her head and kissing her.
Indigo's fingers caressed the back of Rainbow's neck. Rainbow trailed her hand down Indigo's back. They broke apart.
"Oh, that's what that means.", Rainbow said, smirking. "Well I like it. If this is what happens when I win I'll make sure to win every single time."
Which earned a slap on the shoulder from Indigo.
"What?", Rainbow asked earnestly.
This time Rainbow pulled Indigo in, running her hands through her hair, holding her tighter. Connecting their lips hard. Sliding her tongue across Indigo's lips. Until Indigo finally opened up her mouth. Let Rainbow's tongue in. Indigo moaned.
It was driving the bush people crazy that they couldn't see what was going on, so like all sane people they decided to army crawl up the hill. Except for Rarity of course. She went around the back. Cause of her dress. Go figure.
Rainbow ran her hands down Indigo's sides.
The CHS and CPA students were halfway up the hill when they recognized each other.
Rainbow and Indigo continued to kiss.
"Pinkie Pie?!", Lemon Zest yelled.
Which got Rainbow and Indigo to look up from what they were doing for a good long second. But then they continued to go back to their previous activity.
"LEMON ZEST!", Pinkie yelled, bouncing up to a standing position.
"Pinkie Pie! Do be quiet or they'll hear us!", Rarity whisper scolded.
Rainbow and Indigo sighed, and figured it was about time to confront the date spies.
So they marched themselves halfway down the hill, and met them as they were army crawling. The bush people looked up.
"We heard you an hour ago.", Rainbow said smirking.
"Really?", Rarity said. "But we were so cautious!"
"Oh yeah Rares, you were very cautious when you took off earlier today with AJ on your heels. Very classy.", Rainbow deadpanned.
"And thanks to you, Lemon Zest, and Rainbow's freaky good observation skills, I've known that you guys have been over there since we started the soccer game.", Indigo said.
"What? Really?", Lemon Zest said. "You must have bat hearing!", Lemon said to Rainbow.
"What?", Indigo said.
"Bats have exceptionally good hearing skills to make up for their blindness, and to help in echolocation.", Sugarcoat contributed.
"Because you definitely need really good hearing to hear you! Even though you were screaming!", Sour Sweet screamed.
"Woah keep it down guys!", Indigo yelled. "Sheesh, what does a girl have to do to have a peaceful makeout session!"
Everybody but Rainbow and Indigo turned a bright shade of red. Okay well maybe Indigo turned a little red. But Rainbow was shameless.
Then there was awkward silence. Fluttershy decided to fill it.
"I would like to be a tree," she said.
"Not the time Sugarcube.", Applejack said.
"Yeah, we were making out.", Rainbow said, confirming Applejack's worst fear.
"Until we heard some screaming," Indigo mentioned, seeming annoyed.
"Thanks for that by the way.", Rainbow said sarcastically, glaring at Pinkie.
"We'll just go back down the hill now," Rarity said, and pulled the CHS girls along with her.
"No, you don't have to!", Rainbow said.
"They don't?", Indigo asked.
"Cause this first 'date' is over," Rainbow said.
"It is?", Indigo asked.
"Yes, it is.", Rainbow said, but then pulled Indigo in close and slipped her a piece of paper with her phone number on it. "Call me," she whispered.
And then after a few more explanations and choice words, the CHS girls and the COA girls went the separate ways...
