The world of Equestria lays in a state of disorder and chaos. Pockets of normal society remain, but most of the land is desolate and destroyed by the various villains of the world. The Mane Six are just another group of fighters in the war, not bearers of the elements. The princess cannot stop all the monsters alone with the elements of harmony while also helping survivors.

In a small town called Hoofvale, a filly named Sunwish holds amazing raw talents that no one, not even her parents, understand. After her powers accidently harm another student in her class, she's abandoned by her parents, but cannot leave the town because of the dangers outside the walls.

When Hoofvale is attacked by King Sombra, secret implant agents evacuate the town into the now heavily-protected Canterlot Survivor Camp, but the mayor leaves Sunwish behind. Finding her and seeing her talents, Celestia takes an interest in young Sunwish, adopting her as her own, hoping that she's found a new pony to bear the elements of harmony and help restore the kingdom to it's former glory.
