The Afterlife
Prologue
Load Full Story"Miss Starlight Glimmer!"
The lavender ponies ears perked a bit, though her vision was black. She felt herself laying on her back on a thin cushion of some sort. The voice she heard was light and cheery, though muffled and her hearing had a deep ring to it. Starlight felt as if she had just had her eardrums blown out and was awaking from a deep sleep. Her eyes peeled open carefully, squinting as the lids pulled apart. The room she was in was bright and felt as if her eyes might burn from the sensitivity her eyes had suddenly decided to have.
Her eyesight was blurry as the light seemed to ease, and above her stood a unfamiliar pony, moving a flashlight in front of her eyes to be sure her pupils would dilate properly. The pony seemed to turn and mumble something to another pony, though through the ringing in her head and the blurry vision, she couldn't be sure what was happening. She felt herself groan a bit, before raising her hoof to her head to rub her temple, though before she could, her arm was stopped and pushed back onto the small cushion she was on. A mumble was heard, though the voice was inaudible to Starlight. Her head felt light as she was tossing her head a bit, trying to be able to focus on anything in the room. Starlights eyes danced towards a large shape coming towards her, making her nervous.
Starlight felt a slight pinch on her foreleg, causing her to flinch a bit. Her head rolled to the side towards the source of the pinch. Starlight's eyes tried to focus while curiosity pulled the mare's ears forwards. Through the blur and sway of her vision, she noticed a needle pull from her arm with red liquid in the tube. Her shallow breath turned into a small sigh, coming to the conclusion that her blood had been drawn for some sort of testing. Now, she wondered where she was exactly, and why her blood was being taken.
"Where... where am I?" Starlight called, rolling her head side to side in search of somebody to answer her question.
"You're in the Holy Hospital, Miss Glimmer." The pony that spoke had lightly put her hoof on Starlights foreleg, before turning and leaving.
"Ho-Holy... Hospital." Starlight repeated, before watching her vision go black and passing out.
By the time Starlight had awoken again, the room she was in was dark, rather then the blinding light room it had formerly been. Her vision had cleared a bit, and she was able to focus on things for the most part, though she felt dizzy. Starlights head lifted, before forcing herself to sit up in her hospital bed. She had a thin blanket over her and a thin hospital gown tied around her neck.
Her tongue ran over the roof of her mouth, hoping to erase the cotton feeling in her mouth she normally had gotten when she took naps. As she adjusted to her surroundings, her head moved to look at her foreleg that had blood drawn. There was a small round bandage with a bit of blood under it, and her fur was pushed awkwardly where they had tied her arm for the blood. Taking a deep breath, the ponies hoof rested on her head, before moving her eyes towards her other foreleg. There, she noticed the IV stuck in her foreleg, which explained the heavy feeling in her foreleg.
She studied herself a bit more, though saw no injuries. Confusion graced her as she looked at her body, before rubbing her face in search of some sign of injury. Starlight felt nothing, and began to wonder why she was in the hospital. She couldn't remember anything before she had gotten to the hospital, aside from waking up in the morning and doing her daily routine. She considered the change she had been caught in a radioactive spot or even hit with a accidental magic attack, though still was unsure. Her eyes then moved upwards, looking at a TV and beside it, a broken clock. She felt curious, and wondered if maybe her incident was big enough to be on the news.
Grunting, the mare forced herself up a bit more to look around and hunt for a remote. Rolling a bit, she managed to reach a tray on a table that seemed to have rolled from her bedside. Pulling it closer, she saw the remote and grabbed it. Her head switched left to right, making sure she wasn't in a joint room. When she noticed no other beds were in the room, she looked down at the remote and turned the TV on.
"Good evening, Miss Starlight Glimmer." Called a voice that belonged to the pony on the TV screen.
Starlight's eyes widened a bit, though said nothing in return, nor did she move. Her wide eyes locked on the screen, wondering how the pony had been speaking to her through the TV. Blinking, she noticed the pony smile a bit, before opening her mouth to speak once more.
"I realize this can be quite frightening, though no worries. You are safe here. Miss Glimmer, you were in a terrible accident and suffered a tremendous injury that forced you to be brought here, to the Holy Hospital," The pony said, still looking at Starlight through the TV. "In your most recent magic battle, you had been battling a pony that knew the dark arts. Due to your lack of knowledge of defense against the dark arts, you were struck in the heart. Welcome to the afterlife. A nurse will be by in the morning to bring you to the next level."
"Th-The afterlife," Starlight repeated, eyes wide in horror as the TV shut itself off. "Oh dear Sweet Celestia, I'm dead!"
