It was a rainy and stormy night in Equestria. Everypony was in their safe, warm houses, waiting for the storm to end. Some were sleeping, others were preparing for the storm in case it got worse, and others decided to take this opportunity to have some fun like playing board games or charades. But there was one young alicorn colt who had nowhere to go.
This little colt was seven years old. He had a light gray body with a fine, shaggy red mane and tail. His cutie mark was a golden LEGO brick with a wand and a sonic screwdriver crossed behind the brick like a skull with two bones crossed behind on a pirate’s flag. He didn’t have a name. While they were still alive, his parents were trying to think of a name for him, but after going out to dinner with the colt, they died after a huge thunderstorm struck them.
Where is the colt, you ask? Well, he’s in the graveyard, sitting and crying in front of the two gravestones where his parents were buried under. It’s been ten minutes since the funeral ended. The colt was alone, still crying in front of the gravestones of his mother and father.
Just then, a pony by the name of Mayor Mare trotted to him with a black umbrella. The colt heard her hooves coming towards him and turned around to see her face, tears still streaming from his eyes. Mayor Mare was a pale, light grayish amber colored pony with moderate phthalocyanine blue eyes. She had light cornflower bluish gray mane and tail with a lighter colored streak, and her cutie mark is a tan colored scroll tied with a blue ribbon.
Mayor Mare said to the colt, “It’s time to go, little one.”
But the colt shook his head before saying, “No! I don’t wanna go! I wanna stay here! If I go, I’ll be alone. I don’t wanna leave Mom and Dad, so I’m staying here.”
“But we’re gonna find you a new home and a new family,” she said trying to persuade him.
The colt didn’t take the news very well. “But I don’t want a new family! No pony would ever want somepony like me! I’m different!”
And with that said, the colt lied down on the ground with his face in his hooves and continued to cry. Mayor Mare was about to say something to the colt, but she was cut off by a familiar soft, gently voice.
“Excuse me, Miss. May we try?” said the voice.
Mayor Mare turned her head to see who it was. “Oh, yes, of course, your highness,” she replied.
The crying colt heard another set of hooves trotting towards him, but this time, it wasn’t just one pony, it was two. He brought his head out of his hooves and turned his head around to see who it was. Tears still in his eyes, he was shocked to see who it was.
Standing in front of him were the two royal ponies of the Crystal Empire, Princess Cadence and Shining Armor. Cadence was a pink alicorn with a mane and tail that had streaks of pink, yellow, and dark violet. Shining Armor was a white unicorn with a dark blue mane and tail.
Cadence and Shining was visiting Twilight for dinner while Flurry Heart was at the Crystal Empire being babysit by Sunburst, they were on their way back home when they heard the colt’s crying and yelling when they went past the graveyard and decided to see what was going on and see if they could help.
The two were looking down at the colt with sorrowful looks on their faces after seeing how upset he was.
Cadence knelt down to the colt’s level and spoke to him in a soft and gentle voice. "You may not look as different as you think.”
The colt looked up at the pink alicorn with tears still streaming from his eyes, and at that moment, he couldn’t take the pain anymore. He jumped to Cadence and wrapped his hooves around her neck as he continued to cry on her chest.
“And you’re not alone,” she said as she wrapped her hooves around him.
Shining came towards his wife and gently rubbed the colt’s back with his hoof.
“Shhh…” Cadence said in a gently voice. “It’s okay, little one. We’re here. We’ll take care of you. You shall be our new son, and big brother of Flurry Heart, and we will always be here for you.”
The colt said nothing and continued to cry in Cadence’s chest, and Mayor Mare decided to leave them be and went home.
“Come, honey. It’s getting late, and the colt is getting wet,” said Shining.
Cadence nodded in agreement, and the two started to teleport back to Crystal Empire, instead of taking the train, with the colt in Cadence’s hooves.
Once they arrived, Shining opened the doors to their house. The two walked in as Shining closed the doors with his magic. The colt had fallen asleep in Cadence’s hooves before they even arrived. Cadence didn’t know where the colt was going to sleep since there was no third room for him, so she looked to Shining and said, “Until we get him a room of his own, the little colt will be sleeping with us in our room.”
Shining agreed to the plan with a nod, but he soon realized something.
“But Cadence, what are we going to call this colt? Surely, we cannot just call him ‘colt.’ He needs a name.”
Cadence looked down at the colt who was still sleeping in her hooves. She knew that Shining was right. They had to think of a name for him.
“Hmm… How about… Oliver. Prince Oliver Churchill.”
Shining smiled. "Then that is what we shall call him. Our new son, Prince Oliver Churchill.”
Cadence then gives Oliver a little kiss on his cheeks, and Shining did the same. The two decided to tell Flurry and Sunburst about this in the morning since it’s late, and Flurry Heart’s probably now asleep in her bed with Sunburst sleeping in his chair next to her bed.
After all was said and done, Shining and Cadence went to to bedroom, opened the door, and Cadence placed Oliver in her bed while Shining closed the bedroom door. Cadence pulled the covers over herself, Shining and Oliver, and then placed her wing over him so he wouldn’t get too cold in his sleep.
She kissed his forehead before saying, “Goodnight, Oliver, my new little prince,” and they both slept peacefully under Luna’s beautiful moon.
