Chapter 5

We where nearly done with digging the last trench and setting up the MGs

"So they've been captured?" Rainbow asked Wild Strike, he nodded

"Yes, only a few though, most have been killed in the assault. I don't know where they're being held you should ask the Major that." He answered, Rainbow nodded and Strike got back to work, while Rainbow walked to the Major who overlooked their new makeshift defense line

"We're nearly done with the last trench, only a few more minutes and then done." Rainbow informed, the Major nodded "I also heard that some of our troops got captured, any idea where they're being held?" She added, the major once again nodded

"We got two bets, when we're lucky and the reports are still correct, they're in Roan... if not then we are fucked and either they talked and are dead now or are already at Canternia." He answered

"You got a plan to get them out?" Rainbow asked

"Of course I do, no pony get's left behind after all. And with the reinforcements we're finally able to do more here, that's why only makeshift trenches, as soon the support is here we're going on the offensive. We'll take back our old defense line and then maybe a day later make a move against the strong point and finally win this flank any maybe finally push the zebras out of Equestrian main land. And then take back the island Canternia" The major answered

"A fucking simple plan, which is not even 80 percent thought through... I love it, but it will be harder then it sounds... but when the support comes we can finally be far more aggressive and we can finally radio Canterlot from our old defense line." Rainbow replied with a small smile

"This all sound to good to be true... something will go wrong, as always." The major answered with a sigh

"I know, but until now we've pushed through everything. So no matter what, we're gonna continue like that. Even if the whole fucking Zebra army would stand before us. Oorah!" Rainbow replied with pride at what the ponies already survived until now

"Oorah!" The Major exclaimed

"Now we just need a plan at how we're gonna take back our old position." Rainbow thought out loud

"I hope I get one together until tomorrow..." The Major replied sounding unsure

"Major, we won't need a perfect plan which is laid out for every single thing that could go wrong. We better have a half good plan tomorrow, than a perfect plan in a week." Rainbow explained

"Right. So most important will be the lay out of the companies, their missions and of course communication. Last part will be the hardest, we don't really have equipment that can transmit very far..."The Major pondered

"There are two ways" Rainbow started "Either one platoon transmits to the next and then to the next and so on. Or they just send a mail pony over, like we used to in the old war" She finished

"Hmm... I'm gonna keep that in mind" The major figured "Now if you'll excuse me, I got an attack to plan." He added and walked away, Rainbow on the other hoof walked to the trenches and grabbed the assault rifle inside she left inside. Knowing that tomorrows battle will be one of the hardest they had so far she started to change her armor. She dropped the 3 bag that were strapped to her armor and opened the leather straps that ran over her belly, and then the ones that where processed into her neck armor and hocked with the throat armor. She then laid them with big care on the ground. She then got her real combat armor out of the big bag with all her weapons and armors, that had been strapped on her right side. This armor was put on pretty much the same way her old armor was, put your head through the circle where your head is supposed to be... duh! Then hoof the armor around your back legs with a leather strip, both on the left and right. Then grab your leg armor, pull it up your leg and hook that one too into your body armor, last step. Grab your belly armor and hook that one too into the armor that rested on your back and done. Only the helmet on your head but that needs no explanation... And there was the problem for Rainbow, there was no helmet in the bag... which meant her head was completely free for any bullets or rockets. At least she had the Iridium bones to give her some protection. She then grabbed her old armor packed it into the big bag and threw all 3 bags over her back and secured them with leather straps around her belly. "We use far to many leather straps..." Rainbow thought as she once again grabbed her weapon and started the most boring job a pony could think of... except peeling potatoes that is. Ever tried peeling some with hoofs? yeah didn't think so, anyway. The duty was sentry duty. Sure in war time and at the front it's one of the most important things, in fact it saved my life once but I'll tell that another time. So yeah whatever, sentry duty it was luckily only a couple of hours, instead of like 6 hours or so. At least she could guard happily, with the thought that tomorrow one of the hardest fights fought on this flank will occur.
