900 years after the fall of the Princesses Equestria has entered an eternal golden age, heralded by her sole ruler, Twilight Sparkle. In the early years Equestria enjoyed an expansion across the globe unfettered by the other races, whom they subjugated under the ideals of Equestria's righteous Manifest Destiny. Understanding of science and magic grew by leaps and bounds, bringing about the means for non-winged ponies to travel the skies, greatly lengthened lifespans, and an era of economic plenty and explosive population growth. Now, with space on Equus running out, the Equestrians turn their gazes upward to the Void above, so that their reach might expand to the stars.

In this vast expanse, however, the Equestrians face pirates, slavers, and marauders composed of all of Equus's other races, striking back at the Equestrian Empire the only way they can; through guerrilla tactics and guile. In the midst of all these mundane threats a Royal Ranger named Meteor Shower will uncover a plot to unravel Equestria's dark history, one that threatens to end Equestria's Golden Age, and a mare behind the scenes with a long forgotten connection to Empress Twilight Sparkle herself.
