Hey guys, long time no see heh?
I'm extremely sorry for my inactivity and believe me that I try my best to get back to writing. This story is a way for me to clean my systems and get my creative juices flowing.
De-stress session
Night Light trudged through the door to his home, his shoulders slumped and his eyes downcast and bloodshot. It seems life decided to be extra hard on this particular day. He got off late for work, was yelled at by his boss, dropped the lunch his beloved wife made for him all over his newly bought tie, and to top it all off he had an excruciating migraine that lasted throughout the day.
Clutching his head, Night Light made his way towards his bedroom. He let out a sigh of relief as his hoofsteps were muffled by the carpeted floor of his home. The sound of them clopping on the cobblestone streets only served to aggravate his headache further. He clutched his head again when the door to his bedroom squeaked open. He would have to grease the hinges after he took something for the pain in his head.
Walking towards the bed, Night Light sat on the soft mattress, opened the nightstand next to it, and fished out a small bottle of pills. He popped the lid and shook it upside down until two pills landed in his open palm. Night Light looked down at the pills and sighed. He hated taking those pills. Whilst they kept the headaches at bay, they kept him awake at night, thus creating another cycle of a shitty day.
"Oh well, it's better than a splitting headache," Night Light reasoned as he threw the pills into his mouth and swallowed hard.
The sound of the study door opening and closing caught Night Light's attention as he directed his drowsy gaze towards the bedroom door. As if on que, the door opened, revealing the pony on the other side.
"Hey Honey," Night Light greeted his beloved wife, Twilight Velvet. "I hope I didn't interrupt your writing."
Velvet remained quiet for a moment, her gaze briefly wandered towards the bottle of pills in Night Light's hand before locking eyes with him.
"Another rough day?" she asked quietly.
Night Light appreciated his wife's gentle tone, nodding weakly.
"Oh Sweetie…" Velvet cooed, gently coming to her husband's side and taking a seat next to him, rubbing his back and head.
Night Light did not say anything. Instead he simply leaned against his wife and let her rub his sore body. Despite the fact that Velvet's touch was soothing, and his headache was reduced to a thumping discomfort, Night Light's thoughts were far from pleasant.
These last couple of months has been financially difficult for the couple. Living in Canterlot seemed like a good idea at the time back when Velvet had published her first bestseller, but times has been far less favorable for the couple as of late. Velvet's books did not sell as well as they had hoped, and Night Light's job is simply not enough to support the two of them.
The couple decided it was time to sell their house and move to a cheaper place, but unfortunately, selling the house proved to be no less difficult. The house was worth quite a bit of money, and not a lot of ponies were willing to buy it. The couple already lowered the price far below what they had hoped to get on the house, but to no avail.
"I don't know how you manage to stay so strong," Night light said, snuggling deeper against his wife. "You are always so composed, so calm."
"Is it bothering you?" Velvet asked, brushing her fingers through Night Light's mane.
A few seconds passed before Night Light answered. "No… it's comforting."
"Sweetie… maybe we should reconsider…" Velvet let the suggestion hang in the air.
Night Light shook his head against Velvet and sighed. "No Honey, we shouldn't go to the princess for aid. We will get through it on our own, you'll see." Night Light stood up, albeit weakly, and flashed a tired smile towards his wife. "Come, I'll help you make dinner."
Velvet watched as her husband made his way towards the kitchen before she shook her head.
"Oh Night Light, why must you be so stubborn…?"
Truth be told, Velvet was just as much stressed as her husband, but she had to stay strong, she had to be the pillar that holds her relationship from collapsing, she had to do it for Night Light.
Deciding that wallowing in self-pity will achieve nothing Velvet rose from the bed and made her way towards the kitchen where she found Nightlight crouched over the refrigerator, picking up ingredients for a vegetable soup. Feeling a smirk slowly forming on her muzzle, Velvet strode past Nightlight and gave his butt a firm slap.
Hearing the usually composed stallion give a small yelp, and better yet, seeing his startled face as he turned to face Velvet was enough to cause the mare to laugh softly. Nightlight couldn't help it as he too began to chuckle. Nightlight approached Velvet, vegetables in hand, and planted a gentle kiss on her cheek before dropping the vegetables into the sink and turning on the faucet.
Velvet meanwhile extracted a cutting board, a knife, and a pot from various places in the kitchen and settled next to Nightlight. The two worked harmoniously, Nightlight washing the vegetables and passing them over to Velvet so she can cut them. When all vegetables were properly washed Nightlight began fishing different herbs and spices, all the while gazing enamoured at his wife.
When he placed all the spices next to his wife, a devious idea popped into Nightlight's mind. He watched Velvet working from distance, making sure she was done working with the knife before he set his plan into motion. He silently approached Velvet from behind, arms going to both sides of her waist, before pinching them lightly.

By the time the soup was ready and the two seated themselves across each other on the dining table, all tensions were seemingly discarded.
"It's been so long since we’ve cooked something together," Nightlight commented, eating a mouthful of soup, enjoying the rich texture and the mixture of different vegetable.
Velvet nodded, eating a spoonful as well before replying, "Yes, it reminds me of the time we were dating and you tried to make me a romantic dinner date." Velvet gave Nightlight a knowing smirk.
Nightlight's cheeks lit up as he remembered the embarrassing memory. "Heh, heh, good thing you forgot the time and got home an hour early. Otherwise I don't think there would have been anything in the kitchen that would survive."
The couple shared a laugh as they made small talked about this and that, recalling fond memories of their youth, of their time together, and especially of their two beautiful children. At one point they even decided to crack open a bottle of wine.
The two continued drinking even when both bowls of soup were empty, simply passing the time together. As the sun slowly made its descent across the sky the two decided to move to the living room and simply cuddle next to each other.
Nightlight was sitting on the edge of the couch, one hand holding a half emptied wine glass whilst the other hand stroked Velvet's mane. Velvet sighed in content as she spread herself across the couch, her head supported against Nightlight's thigh.
After a few moments of comfortable silence Nightlight spoke up, "How's the new novel coming along?"
At the mention of her still unfinished novel Velvet buried her face into Nightlight's gut, causing the stallion to chuckle.
"That bad, huh?"
"Yes," Velvet replied, her voice muffled by her husband's gut. "I am stuck on a particularly difficult section of the story. The worst part is that I have everything planned out, the story is practically finished, but I can't seem to write myself from this damn writer's block. Nothing I write seems to click and I have no idea why."
As Velvet continued to rant about her novel, it was Nightlight's turn to comfort her. He knew writing was everything for Velvet, and after her latest novel's mixed reviews she poured her entire heart and soul on this one.
"You'll figure something out, babe. You always do," Nightlight said, gently rolling Velvet until she was facing up to him before planting a soft kiss on her lips.
As nightlight was about to pull away from Velvet, a hand on his neck stopped him as Velvet pushed her lips against his and turned the small, gentle kiss into a passionate, needy one. It was as she feared, yet another night of failed writing. How long has it been since she had that damned writer's block? Three, four months? No matter what she tried, no matter what she wrote, it simply did not feel right.
Velvet's gaze left the typewriter as she scanned the dimly lit room, her eyes stopped as she spotted a shopping bag lying next to the door. But it wasn't the bag that interested Velvet, rather, the contents of said bag.
