//-------------------------------------------------------// Happy Birthday -by shadowwolf101- //-------------------------------------------------------// //-------------------------------------------------------// Party Time! //-------------------------------------------------------// Party Time! Mist, a silver and white wolf, bounced around the kitchen gathering the ingredients to make a birthday cake. She poked her head out of the kitchen to see if everyone else was getting the other preparations done. She spotted two pegasi; one was turquoise with a blue mane, and the other was a much larger, light blue pegasus with a brown mane, both of which were busy tying and blowing up balloons. Looking further into the room, she saw another pegasus, this one yellow with a creamy light pink mane, who was busy setting the table - until she stopped and frowned. Mist chuckled and walked up. “What is it Dashy?” Snapping her head around, she glared at the wolf. “What is it? What is it?! DO YOU SEE THESE PLATES AND NAPKINS?!” She tilted her head curiously and looked at the pink plates and orange napkins. The plastic forks and spoons were yellow. “Uh… yeah? What’s wrong with them?” “THE COLORS DON’T MATCH AT ALL!!!” She shouted. “If you’re doing pink plates, then you need pink napkins and pink forks and spoons. Everyone knows that!” The pegasus pouted, her feathers ruffled in annoyance. “Uh… it looks like the colors of the sunset?... hehe…” Mist slowly backed away from the mare, leaving her huffing to herself. Rather than risk an argument, she turned to see how the streamers were coming along. A dark yellow unicorn with a straight, dark red mane was using her magic to raise the streamers and nail them up. They were pink and purple, spreading across the whole room. The pattern had them and meeting in the center, where a pinata filled with candy was hanging down. Mist smiled. “Hey Gany, how’s it coming?” “Going alright. I heard Dashy raging.” “Who didn’t hear Dashy raging? I’ll get her a book later and she’ll calm right down.” “Good plan.” The two laughed and Mist grinned. “Keep up the good work onion!” She shouted back as she padded away over to Dust and Calm, who were blowing up the balloons. “Hey guys, almost finished?” “Yeah Felicia, just hanging them up now.” Dust grinned at the use of her nickname, his French accent very thick. Mist chuckled as she slung her wing around him. “You got it Bill! FEAR ME FOR I AM THE BUTTERFLY!!!” The two shared a hearty laugh, while Calm looked at them in confusion, nonetheless chuckling at their antics. A bright blue pegasus with a dark blue mane walked up and pouted at them. “Come on guys, isn’t that joke old now?” She complained, despite a small laugh escaping. The two grinned evilly. “NOPE!” They said at the same time as they continued to convulse in fits of giggles and laughter. “Soul sista, you’re mean.” The pegasus pouted and stuck her tongue out at the wolf. She smirked and released Dust, walking over to the mare. “SOUL SISTA!” She bellowed, before she tackled her to the ground, the pair laughing all the way. Getting her breathing back, Cat, the pale blue pegasus braced against Mist. “Get off of me fatty!” She laughed some more, and shoved the furry wolf off of her. “Come on Cat, you know you love me.” She grinned devilishly. Cat pouted. “I hate you.” Mist grinned and padded off back into the kitchen, calling behind her. “Love you to soul sista!” The moment she was back in the kitchen the oven began to beep. Grabbing a cloth, she pulled out a couple of round yellow cakes, setting them on the counter to cool while she went to check on the buttercream icing chilling in the fridge. She looked out the window to check for Echo, a dark blue pegasus. She was supposed to keep Lilly busy, out of the building until they were all ready. And she did it in the only way she knew how. A Shopping spree. Echo had a small bag in her mouth, containing a few of her new purchases. Lilly had a similar bag as well, but it wasn’t anywhere near as full. They were roaming around a small antique shop when Lilly finally turned to Echo. “Ugh. We’ve been to every store on the entire street, please, can we go now?” “Not yet! There’s a place I know with some really great hats!” Echo said quickly and a little too enthusiastically . But that didn’t matter; Lilly’s attention was instantly grabbed, the key word having been said. “Hats? Well… I guess so…” Echo immediately grabbed her hoof and lead her out of the shop’s front entrance, intent on pulling her into the next one. Lilly frowned. “Wait! We haven’t paid yet!” Echo froze and dropped her bag; darting over she dropped ten bits on the counter. “Keep the change, gotta go bye!” She darted out of the shop again, the little bell on the door ringing as she did. She dragged the confused pink pegasus down the road and into the hat shop. “This is the last one and then we can go back, alright?” She promised. The pink pegasus nodded and trotted up to a rack that had big floppy sun-hats with flowers on them. “Oooh, these are really pretty.” She grabbed a yellow hat with red, pink and white roses on it and put it on her head. It sagged over her eyes and she frowned, before putting it back and grabbing another one. This one had a large blue ribbon tied into a bow. Placing it on her head, she walked over to a mirror, smiling. “I kinda like this one.” Echo walked up wearing a fruit hat, and grinned as she pulled a banana off of it and peeled it, taking a bite. “Manana.” Lilly’s eyes widened a bit. “Where did you…? Ugh, nevermind. I don’t wanna know.” She giggled a bit and continued to admire the sun-hat. Echo laughed and tossed the hat aside, smiling. “Find the one you like?” The mare smiled. “Yeah, but I wanna try on the others to.” She shrugged and smiled. “Fine by me. We’ve got all day to try on hats.” She trotted off to another part of the small store, grabbing a hat of her own to try on. Putting the hat on caused some of her mane to drop in front of her eyes. She brushed it away to find a gray pony with a red mane in the racks, grinning inches from her muzzle. “AGGHHH!” She jumped, almost hitting the ceiling, before landing in front of the grey pony. He simply stood there laughing. Echo glared at the pony and pouted, her feathers a ruffled mess from the scare. “It’s not funny Ten Pin!” His eyes widened and he threw a hoof over her mouth. “Shhh! I came to tell you that we are ready when you are.” “And you HAD to give me a heart attack when you did?!” He grinned. “No, I just felt like it.” Before she could protest, the pony hopped out of his hiding place and trotted out of the little store, flying away. She sighed in annoyance and smoothed out the feathers on her wings. Snatching a fedora from the rack, she walked over to the mirrors with Lilly to continue goofing around, having fun while her friend tried on the hats. It was early afternoon by the time Echo and Lilly arrived home, a new black gothic victorian top hat adorning her head. The hat featured a cross in the middle of it, bright red gems set in the cross and a faint elegant stitching designed into the surface of the hat. A white ribbon with a slight sparkle was tied tightly around the base of the hat with a black emu feather jutting out the side. A black lace veil hung down over her face and she was smiling widely. Mist gazed out the window, watching her walk up with her paws propped up on the window sill. She got back down on all fours and padded over to the others. “She’s here, roll in the cake. Remember, no screaming. We all know she hates loud surprises. We aren’t trying to tick her off.” They chuckled good naturedly, and gathered around the table where the cake and ice cream was set out. When Lilly walked up to the door and opened it, she stepped in and her eyes went wide. She looked around the room in shock; the colorful balloons, the streamers, the cake; add in the ice cream and drinks on the table set with colorful paper plates and plastic forks - it was all too much to process. “What is all this?!” Dust grinned and trotted up. “Happy birthday Lilly.” “You guys did all this?!” She was still trying to wrap her head around it when Calm Wind snickered and walked her over to the cake. “Make a wish, Lilly.” She looked at the cake and blushed madly, her pink fur replaced with a deep red flush of absolute embarrassment. “Wh-what is this…” She was staring at an icing drawing of Fire Streak winking at her. On the cake was written Happy Birthday to my #1 Fangirl. The group burst into laughter as she stared at the drawing, candles surrounding the circular layer cake. “Alright, who made this!” She glared at the group and Mist snickered as she raised her paw. The others were holding hooves over their muzzles, trying to suppress their laughter. “Come on you guys, was that really necessary?” Lilly pouted, but she couldn’t hold back a small chuckle that escaped her lips. Mist smiled and watched as Lilly blew out the candles, before she grabbed a large knife and cut slices of the cake. “I used your grandmother’s buttercream icing recipe to make it.” “Oh, yum!” She grinned happily as the cake was served and some of the vanilla ice cream was scooped and served. After they had all eaten, Gany brought out a blindfold and tied it over Lilly’s eyes. “Pinata time, Lilly gets the first three swings.” She looked up at the hanging cardboard decoration that was in the shape of a star, with hot pink tassels along all the points, and a picture of discord being really annoying plastered in the middle. He had a target over himself as if encouraging them to hit him. She began spinning Lilly around, and after the fifth turn, she moved her to the pinata and stepped back to let her swing. She slammed the bat into the pinata directly where his head was, leaving a large dent in his face. She swung a second time and left a second dent where the target was. On her third swing she burst the pinata open, and all of the candy spilled out the sides, a stream of it plopping down on her head. Lilly pulled off the blindfold and joined in the laughter as she looked at the destroyed pinata pouring candy out onto the floor. She stepped back so candy would stop dropping onto her head, and she looked around at the group, confused. They were all in hysterics, and Cat walked up and used a wing to brush the pile of candy off of her head, and onto the floor. She watched as it clattered to the ground before joining in on the laughter. At the end of the night, when the party was cleaned up and everyone had gone home, Lilly yawned and dragged her hooves across the carpeted floor to her room. She hung her new hat on her bedpost, and collapsed onto her mattress, quickly drifting off into a deep sleep. As she did, her two younger siblings, Zap and Water Jewel, snuck into her room. They jumped up onto her bed, and curled up, cuddling up to her and drifting to sleep. Glitter walked by on her way to bed, and she chuckled as she saw the three of them, smiling a little. “Happy birthday Lilly.” She said quietly before walking off to her room.
