Prologue
The light went out. All was silent.
A purple unicorn with pink streaks in
her mane looked up from her book.
"Spike?"
"Wrong..."
"Who's there? If you don't show
yourself right now, I-I'll call the princess!"
A figure rose from the shadows, quite
literally. The unicorn took a step back.
"I'm calling the princess! I'm calling her
RIGHT NOW!" The terrifyed unicorn
shouted.
A scream.
And it was over.

                        Chapter One

Chapter One
Gemstone Glitter awoke to hear... a
scream? Who was it?
"Mummy!" Gemstone screamed
as she ran down stairs to the ground
floor of the Golden Oak Library. She
screamed again when she saw her mum,
Twilight Sparkle, lying on her side and covered
in her own blood. Her horn was cut,and one
of her wings was torn.
"GEMSTONE!" Spike ran down
the stairs as he saw Gemstone crying by
Twilight's side. "S-Spike?"
"Gemstone! Are you alright? What in
Equestria happened here?"
"I-I don't know... it was just a-a shadow, a
scream...and, and..." Gemstone said
in between sobs. She was so scared,
she felt sick. At least Spike was there.
They huddled close, and Spike stroked
Gemstone's messy blue mane.
"I'm sure, uh, It'll be alright,Gemstone."
"Oh,Spike." Gemstone sobbed.
"What are we gonna do? Daddy went to
war with the princess,and Mummy's not
here any more..."  Spike looked up.
"Wait. Do you know she's, well,gone?"
"N-no, b-but Spike! Mummy's all covered
In blood! She's not even-"
Gemstone stopped as she heard a cough.
"M-Mummy?"
Twilight coughed again,and opened her eyes.
"Gemstone! Are you okay?"
"Mummy!" Gemstone cried,"You're not dead!"
"No, I don't think so, Gems."
Spike tiptoed up to Twilight, not sure if he
should say anything.
"Spike! Thank goodness you're okay!" Twilight
smiled.
"I'll send a note to the princess right away!"
"Thanks, Spike." Twilight said.
"What should I do, Mummy? I could find
you your favourite book to read, or-"
"It's fine, Gems. You just have to be here for
Mummy."
"Okay."
