Chapters Prologue: Only Time Shall Tell
Prologue: Only Time Shall Tell
[San Diego, California. June 24, 2016; 12:36 PM]
One plane ride, one train ride, two buses, one twenty-eight minute walk, bad room service, six hours of sleep, a thirty-seven minute walk, and here I am: Anime-con. Walking outside the entrance of the convention center I see a plethora of colors, people in various clothing; ranging from hawaiian shirts to amazing cosplays. And me? I’m wearing a cosplay of my favourite champion from League of Legends: Veigar. But this wasn’t his normal default skin, no, this is his Superb Villain Veigar skin minus the moustache because that looked ridiculous. Imagine just having a yellow moustache that curved at the tips, can’t? Good, it’s hideous, but otherwise my cosplay was amazing, my purple top hat with a red bow on it, my purple cape and coat, my red and black suit, my beautiful monocle. Well actually... my cosplay would be amazing if I didn't last minute my cane... scepter... thing. I was too tall and I didn’t want to make a staff, so I opted out for a cane instead. Looking back on it.
“I should’ve put more effort into this thing,” I said as I looked at my cane on my left. The material was good, an aluminum alloy; but all the details may as well be a cosplay crime. Looking to my right hand, At least I did a good job on the gauntlet . The colors were as accurate as possible and the details on it were perfect as can be. It was all made of plastic and styrofoam, but boy was I proud of it.
I was nearing the entrance, excitement building up inside me despite my indifferent face, But as I continued a frown formed upon it. There was a massive line just to get in because of security checks, “Ugh… This’ll be a long day.”
One hour of line and a security check later, I got my pass and made my way through the doors.
I’m in! I’m finally in! Goodness gracious that took forever! I hope there’s some good merch left over for me . I was looking at the provided guide showing me where all the booths and stalls were, and I began walking through the sea of people with my destination in mind. I was nearly there… I think. Looking up from the map I scanned my surroundings, it was somewhere here. The League corner of the convention center was suppose to be right here! “This makes no sense it’s suppose to be right here,” I sighed. I began to look for one of those helper people… things… you know what what are they called? It was after six minutes of searching I found the uh… uh… assistant?
“Excuse me ma’am?”
“Yes?” she said in a chirper voice.
“Yes, um… I was looking the League of Legends section of the convention, but I can’t seem to find it.”
“Oh my, I’m sorry to tell you this, but all of that was moved to tomorrow, it was a last minute decision by the board and well it has caused much confusion.”
“Oh... That explains everything then… Why?”
“I’m just Guide, sorry. Is there anything else I could help you with though?”
“No it’s fine, I’ll just come tomorrow for that. Thank you.” So that’s what I should call them… Huh .
“Sure it’s no problem, it’s my job after all.”
Walking away off into the crowd I heard, “I should’ve asked for his name and number,” Ha! That’s funny! Me?! I mean me with a girlfriend?! Ha! That’s absurd! I’m just a lowly double major in math and aerospace engineering with minors in physics and music, who also plays a lot of League in his spare time... Realizing what I just thought, “Wow… I suck. I have like zero confid-” My monologue was abruptly broken by me walking into a poll of a booth. As I hit the floor I heard a loud clang sound. “Ow,” was all I could say.
“Watch it! These are very delicate products,” said the man behind the table.
“I’m so very sorry sir,” I apologized as I got up. “I was monologuing and I must have not noticed where I was going,” I looked over to the man as he picked up the item that fell. I heard a click of his tongue and he turned around to approach me with the item at his side.
Raising the item up so I could see it, “You see this?” he pointed at a long scratch on the stick and I nodded. “I can’t sell this anymore, it’s ruined.” He placed the damaged object on the table and sat down on his chair, his face down in defeat. “It took me ages to make that thing.”
I felt horrible, I ruined this man’s hard work because I was obsessing about my own problems and not focusing on my surroundings.“Uh… um… H-How about I buy it for its full value?!” I offered the idea hoping that it would raise the poor man’s spirit. Little did I know I would come to regret this decision, and I was focusing solely on the item in front of me that I didn’t notice the man’s devilish smile.
Looking up with a hopeful face, “Really?”
“Yea, it’s my fault. So, how much is it?”
“Bless your soul! Just for you, I’ll give you ten percent off! That’ll be two-hundred and ninety-two dollars.”
As soon as he said this I pulled out my wallet and pulled out three hundred dollars, “Here, just keep the change,” I had another fifty left over so I should be fine.
With a smile the man took my money, “If you don’t mind me asking what is your name good sir?”
“Oh, uh… I guess it wouldn’t hurt to tell you. The name’s Julian, Julian Fold,” I said as I offered him a handshake which he accepted
“Good to meet you, I’m called the Merchant. And who are you dressed as?”
“Oh, I’m dressed as Superb Villain Veigar from League of Legends, with no moustache on purpose,” taking the cane from the table.
“I knew you looked familiar, well it just so happens that the cane you have there is an exact replica!”
Wait, what? I looked down to the cane and saw the handle was a red crystal ball with a claw wrapping around it. I was dumbstruck. How did I not notice this!? My mouth was agape as I just stared. If I wasn’t so awed by it I would have noticed that my surroundings were turning black and I suddenly felt the sensation of falling. I screamed for a good minute, only to notice I was staring at a black void. I looked behind me, I looked to my left and right, up and down. Just black. And in a flash of white, I was surrounded by purple. I had this tingling feeling that I wasn’t suppose to see this, I felt something claw in the back of my mind. And just how it appeared, it disappeared in a flash of light and I found myself hitting the ground hard. My last thought being, Damn you inertia!

Princess Luna was on her balcony painting the setting before her, the small city of Everfree under her night sky. Just like how her night sky twinkled with stars, so did the city with its flames of light. It was then when a rush of wind emanating from the center of the massive forest blew out all those flames and knocked her painting to the ground. Leaning over her balcony she sensed something, evaluating the signature’s power level she immediately opened her eyes in shock, “I must inform mine sister at once!”
Luna flew threw the castle halls at break neck speeds, turning corners almost instantaneously, and knocking over vases. She had to to inform her sister of the possible threat. In just a matter of seconds she was outside of her sister’s bed chambers, “Move aside guards, we must awaken our sister for the most urgent of matters.”
With that said the guards opened the doors for the Princess of the Night. Entering Luna heard the soft click of the doors behind her, “Tia, ‘tis a disturbance in the… Tia?” Luna looked over to her sister’s bed finding it was a mess and her sister was gone. Scanning the room she found that her balcony doors were open with wind rushing into the room. “It appears that mine sister has gone to investigate these matters on her own.”
Stepping out of the room, “Guards, it appears mine sister has gone out to investigate the appearance of an unknown force. Prepare thy troops to head out into the South of the Everfree Forest and leave immediately, we shall join Celestia,” the guards saluted and ran off to the barracks.
Luna turned around and walked back into the room, prepping her wings and giving a flap, she launched herself out of the room through the balcony doors, “What monstrosity hast fate put against us this time? Only time shall tell.”

Meanwhile, “Wow, that went smoothly,” the Merchant said as he looked at the closing portal in the floor. “Nice guy too,” he said as he threw the money into a box. “Now let’s see who else shall fall victim to my merchandise. Ha, ’fall’ because he fell…
…
“I’m terrible at jokes… maybe I should take up acting. I hear this Hamilton fellow is quite the star…"

Chapter I: So it Begins
[South of Everfree, 28 February 5 AD; 12:47 AM]
I was having an interesting dream, I was at Anime-con, I bought a cane, I was having a nice chat with a decent person, and suddenly I was falling before I hit the ground incredibly hard. This dream repeated over and over again, I was trapped in this infinite cycle. I tried to move, but couldn’t. It was like I was seeing through my eyes, but couldn’t control my body, yet at the same time I was in control. As contradictory as it sounds, it’s how I felt. Anyway, my dream, to my gratitude, came to an end as I heard the sound of foot steps. Listening to the footsteps I determined there was two people approaching me.
“What is this creature before us,” said a female voice. So there are two people, I thought when I heard the word us. “We have never before placed our sight upon a creature like thyself, what art thou?”
The footsteps were getting closer, each hitting the grass with a small pounding sound. I took this moment to slowly push my self of the ground, and boy did my chest hurt. I raised my head up high and found I was staring at trees and foliage. I scratched my head in thought, “Could’ve sworn the sound was coming from in front of me.”
“Thou is in the wrong about such an inquiry, creature. Who art thou and where art thou from?” the female voice said behind me.
“Using the word creature is quite rude, you know?” I said with some sass as I kept my back turned, picking up my staff and placing my fallen hat on my head. Insufferable whelp, to call me such a thing… what? I was lost in thought at that. I wasn’t that rude, but maybe being undermined and insulted set something off in me. “And I also believe asking for one’s name is rude without giving there’s first.” Yea, I was ticked off. For example, I didn’t say that to uh… Merchant? Because he didn’t insult me.
“Thou demand our name after thou trespasses upon our lands?! Dost thou not knowest where thou is?! Dost thou play us for a fool?! If thou wishest to know our name then so it shall be, our name is Princess Celestia; co-ruler of Equestria and the one who lowers and raises the sun, creature!” After all that yelling I heard a very loud stomp followed by a rush of warm wind.
“Wow. I think I’ve gone partially deaf,” I said as I picked my ear with no effect of soothing my pain. “You know, you could’ve just said your name, and is your first name ‘Princess,’ an interesting name indeed,” turning I found myself face to face with an alabaster horned pegasus.
… Winged unicorn?
… Whatever.
Not whatever! I’m talking to a horse… Why am I not shocked by this! Why am i freaking out about why I’m not shocked… I’ve. Gone. Fucking. Nuts. Haven’t I? Focusing my brain power onto the apparent Princess, Wow, is she tall. And that horn just adds so much more height to her.
When the idea of height came up I realized something. I looked to my left where my hand grasped the stick of the staff. It wasn’t this tall before, either I’ve gotten shorter or my cane turned staff got taller. Lifting it up off the ground for a moment I realized that the weight did not change and one thought came to mind, Shit… I’m a fucking midget.
It hurt realizing that my height something, I inherited through genetics, was ripped away from me, but my train of thought on my first world problems came to an immediate halt when the princess spoke once more.
“Tis a title given to us by our subjects and thou speakest of giving one’s name, but thou is unable to do so. Is thou concentration short as thyself?” the insolent princess looked me up and down with a stern face and frown.
“You dare mock my height you insolent whelp?!” I took a few steps forward and jabbed my staff into the ground. “I am Veigar! You plebe, and you having the ability to command the celestial body of the sun! Ha! Don’t make me laugh. I shall show you true celestial power!” with that a rain of dark matter came crashing down upon and around us, many coming close to the princess and myself, but never actually hitting us. The princess had raised a golden shield around herself all the while I laughed maniacally.
“Art thou insane! To pull the stars from the sky to use as a weapon! Thou are more impossible than Discord himself!”
“I know not of who you speak of, but understand this: Do not make me your enemy,” I said pointing my right hand at her.
“Thou hast made thyself an enemy by attacking us!” her mane and tail bursting into fire as her eyes glowed white with power.
“An attack! This is nothing more than a demonstration,” with that the rain of comets ended. We stood there for a good minute, staring at one another, not making a move. As time passed my sanity slowly returned and I just processed what happened.
What. The. Fuck. Just. Happened. I didn’t even say my real name. Veigar is not my name, my name is Veigar. My name is Veigar, my name is Veigar. Veigar is not my name!
…
Okay. Oookay... So apparently my name is Veigar. Because apparently whenever I try to say my real name, “Veigar” comes out. Hm… My name is Alex. Okay looks like I can lie about my name. Again my train of thought came to an end when I heard the sound of wings and something hitting the ground, looking over i saw a night blue horse approach from the sky. Great, another one.
“Sister! Art thou alright? What hast happened? Thou art in flames,” the night blue horse said as she approached Celestia.
“Sister stay back, the creature in front of us is more trouble than Discord and Sombra combined,” the white horse commanded her sister.
The dark horse stepped away from her sister and looked at me, “Tis that the creature the one giving off the energy?”
“Indeed, and we must deal with him or it shall cause more trouble than just this here field,” it was then that the sister looked at her surroundings and noticed craters of dirt with little glowing rocks in them. “It was able to pull the stars from the sky and use them as weapons,” never once did the princess take her eyes off me as she spoke to her sister who was investigating the craters.
“I will have you know I have a name,” I said finally taking note of my high pitched, raspy voice, Huh… weird. “And my name is Veigar and my gender is male,” finally I was out of my insane persona and I was ready to hold a conversation.
“Sister, art thou sure it ‘twas stars that this… Veigar? Pulled from our night?” She asked levitating a glowing rock from a crater, her face in slight disbelief.
“Of course we are sure Luna. It twas raining down upon us with the force of a hundred dragons,” still staring at me as if she wanted to kill me. She probably did and I wouldn’t be surprised.
“Hast thou even laid thy eyes upon our night? We see no stars that are out of place and none are missing” letting the rock fall out of her magic after having examined it with a loud thud hitting the ground. “It is quite the heavy rock, far too heavy to just be a rock in fact.”
“Luna if I let this creature out of my sights, surely it shall flee or use another one of its dark abilities upon us,” I think her stare is gazing into my soul. Seriously, if looks could inflict pain of any kind, I would have two holes in me from where her eyes were looking at me.
I was getting annoyed from the white one calling me creature, “For the last time, as I’ve said, this creature has a name and that name is Veigar! If you wish to not be hit by something worse then you shall and will use it! But please do continue your conversation while I get my thoughts in order,” I’ve fucked up again haven’t I?
“Now this creature wishes to threaten us!”
“I have a name you insufferable whelp!” I yelled.
“Insult us even!” she yelled as she brought out her wings, her horn charging with magic.
“If you are looking for a fight it shall surely be a tilted one in my favor!” a ball of dark energy forming to my right above my gauntlet.
Tension was building between the two of us, insanity fueling my power and rage fueling her’s. Between us waves of dark energies met waves of heat. I had no idea how I was doing any of this, but surely doing nothing at this point would get me killed in an instance; therefore, I went along with it. If it keeps me alive, I’m not complaining.
The charge in Celestia’s horn was growing and my ball of dark energy was almost ready. It was then when a contingent of what I assumed were guards came out of the forest and into the “soon to be battlefield.” Great, more worms!
Again! Why am I thinking like this?
Though I do admit they are a bit of a nuisance.
“I have no patience for this!” With that said, I threw my ball of energy towards Celestia in the middle of her charging a spell. Assuming that this was the ability Primordial Burst, than my attack should do damage based on how much ability power I have and approximately eighty percent of hers.
I watched as the ball flew towards her, she immediately cut off her spell and formed a shield around herself. Unfortunately for her, the domed shield immediately broke after coming into contact with the ball. And as soon as it broke, Celestia was sent off to the other side of the forest opening. Smoke emanated from her landing position, and a large crater was dug into the earth.
“Sister!” Luna yelled in the direction of her fallen sister. “Now we believe that such a feat is possible with the likes of you,” she was now staring at me, “Guards! Detain this criminal!”
A loud, “By your word!” was all they said and they immediately began to rush me. These insolent fools challenge me!
They had crossed half the opening in a matter of seconds, but I was prepared. As soon as they were a mere meters away from me, my trap activated. Event Horizon, a stunning ability that stopped all who passed any of the borders. With them all stunned I summoned my Dark Matter ability to rain down upon them. Unlike my rain of small dark matter particles, this one was a large concentration of the stuff. Hitting the ground it left all those in its path as ash and dust.
“Fiend!” Now Luna was rushing me with a variety of levitating swords. “Thou hast slain our subjects, and thou will pay with thy life! Thou hast harmed our sister as-” Luna’s small rant was cut of by me blasting her in the face with Baleful Strike, the dark energy immediately blasting her away.
“As I’ve said whelp, I do not have the patience or time to play around with the likes of you,” The field we were in was a smoldering mess, my dark matter comets corrupting the soil, the ashes and guts of the guards were everywhere, Princess Celestia was in a massive crater; hopefully dead, and Luna was in a small crater of her own.
I didn’t know what I was feeling, but it felt... good. These creatures who insulted me, provoked me, and attempted to fight me, were defeated so easily. I felt powerful, like nothing could stop me. But as this feeling coursed through me, the sound of falling rocks reached my ears. Looking towards the direction of the sound, I looked face first into a beam of light. Oh fuck m-
I was tossed into the side of a tree, the beam continuing to burn me. In the corner of my vision I saw torrents of flames wafting up to greet my feet. Turning to the side, I could see that a large forest fire was burning through the foliage. I’m going to be burned at the trunk at this rate!
I was beginning to fear for my life. I didn’t want to die like this to the han- hooves of a horse. I had to find a way out, turning to my left I saw an opening in the trees. It was another field smaller than the current one, but if I could get past it I might be able to survive. Pushing myself off the tree was the difficult task as the beam of light pushed me back into it.
It was at this point that I was reaching out towards the opening with my scepter. And to my joy I was there in a flash. I had teleported out of the blinding light, away from the murderous horse. Looking back to where I was, I saw the old tree was burned to ash as the beam passed over and vanished. Poor tree… You have served me well. I must depart. Know that I will return for you to give you a just reward… What the hell am I saying?
With my level of insanity in tatters I decided it would be best to retreat, Taking vengeance from a prison much less the after world would be too difficult, I must retreat… Why would I want revenge me?
Vengeance shall be mine!
Again! Why would I want revenge! If we go back, I- We are so dead!
… I’m talking to myself. Just fucking great.
I began my journey through the forest, not knowing where I was going. All I knew was that I wanted to be as far away as possible from those two.
“Sister dost thou kill the criminal?!” Luna was now out of the crater and was now side by side with her sister.
“No Luna, it appears that he has escaped our clutches. There is a faint sense of teleportation in the air, far too weak to trace. He must be nearby,” Celestia was no eyeing the treeline around her. There was no movement and nothing suspicious to make her move. “When we return to the castle have the guards double the patrols. Have every guard at the ready. We will also require a team to track down that monster.”
“Of course Tia, we shall also take thy Day Court while thou tends to thy wounds,” Luna gave a soft nod to Celestia’s side were a large patch of fur was burned off and her skin showing signs of high level of burns.
“Thank you, whatever he did it was not only his magic that hit us but ours as well. I know not of what powers he possesses, but they are far too dangerous. I had to use several high level healing spells before I could get up, I’m surprised that I even managed that beam,” Celestia took one step and suddenly keeled over. Her legs buckling and her head meeting the ground in a thud.
“Sister, thou must get some rest. Thy magic reserves are low and you are in physical pain,” Luna levitated her sister on her back, she could hear her sister’s soft snores. “Sweet dreams Tia, know that our kingdom is safe, and The Hunt… So it begins,” with that Luna began the flight home to the Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters, face full of determination to protect the things she holds dear. Little did she know that she was being tailed by a wisp of wind.
Author's Note
Just so you know, especially for those League fans out there, this Veigar was from the time when he did the plus 80% opponent's AP. It is not the Veigar from season 6 I believe, don't quote me on that. All those abilities you read were his Q,W,E, and R (Not in order). I also chose the old Veigar ult (R), because we're in a world of magic, Celestia and Luna are magic beings. I thought it would give him a fair fight. Now for the percent of missing health or something, I see possibilities as a lesser spell.
This chapter had two paths, the peaceful path or the battle path. I chose the latter. After all peaceful encounters are pretty norm on this site and group so I thought I'd spice things up. I also just wanted to show off his move pool to you guys, as well as show off his insanity from peering into the void. For those who don't know some basic "Displaced lore" when one looks into the "Void" , the thing in between realities, one goes insane because they can't handle it.
Now, if thou is confused about the time frame of this chapter, it is from way way way back in the past of the history of Equestria. As you read Discord is stoned and Sombra is vaped upped and iced. So that means three events needed to take place before I bring out the "Interludes." Premiere (first for french); the Tirek fiasco, Numero dos (figure it out); Veigar getting stone or vaped or iced or mooned, or all of the above, and lastly the nightmare moon fiasco. That's like a solid 4-6 Chapters right there, 2-3 if I make them long, but who has time for that.
As what will become the "as perusal," please do comment. It let's me know if my story is entertaining, if I need to work on something or just something positive. Thank you for reading, and I hope you live a relatively wonderful life!
Chapter II: The Hunt Begins
Chapter II: The Hunt Begins
[Everfree Barracks, 3 March 5 AD; 6:04 PM]
The Everfree Military Academy was a bustle of activity. New recruits were outside training and veterans were either training as well or off doing business, but many of the soldiers were in the cafeteria. In his office, Brigadier Starburst was looking over a plethora of paperwork. Being head of the Reconnaissance Division of the Equestrian Military was a job with a lot of reports coming in. Every month he was given a large stack of reports to look over, and from time to time some reports requesting various things. And today was just another long, boring, tiring day of looking at papers in an uncomfortable chair.
The old unicorn missed his days as a Lieutenant as well as his days as a Captain. When he was out in the field he and his squad would go behind enemy lines, scouting the territory, the thrill of getting caught, leading others into possible dangers, only to just make it out alive. Sadly, many of his superiors died and they left him with the job. What’d I’d give to do just to relive those memories.
A knock on the door broke him out of his reminiscing, looking up from the report in front of him, “Come in,” he said in a somewhat gruff voice, but deep voice.
Starburst expected there to be a pony with a misfiled report, what he had not expected was the solar princess to be walking in, “Princess Celestia,” He immediately stood up from his chair and gave and bowed.
“Thou may rise Brigadier,” with that the stallion rose. “We have a special task for thee.”
“Of course, I’ll have my best on it,” Starburst was walking over to a bookshelf, from Celestia’s point of view, on the left side of the room.
Celestia then began to take a look around the unicorn's office, the window behind his desk illuminated the room with her sun’s rays. The dark wooden furniture from his desk to the bookshelf to her left. Looking to her right she saw a wall of pictures. He has a family... Of course he has a family. I worry what would happen if he were to fail… To leave them alone without a father would be my fault. Would they hate me? Despise me?
“Princess,” Celestia looked over to the stallion, her thoughts dismissed, but not gone. “Here in the book are my best, would you like a look for anypony specific?”
“Nay, not for thy division, but for thyself and the chosen few to partake in such a task,” Celestia levitated a scroll over to his desk a dropped it. “The task we ask of thou requires great skill, only thou and a few of thy compatriots are able to complete it.”
Starburst knew what this meant. To finally be able to be out there again. To live! “W-what about my position, princess?” he asked.
“Thou may give it to whoever thou sees fit to hold thy mantle, Brigadier. But more importantly, the task. We ask thee to seek out a great threat of Equestria. Do not attempt to fight it, just report to us its location immediately. As we have said before, bring those whom you see fit.
“The specifics are in the scroll, it is to be treated with the utmost urgency and importance, as well as secrecy. And with that, that is all Brigadier, I wish thee the best of luck,” with the orders given, the scroll in the custody of the Brigadier; she turned around and walked out. As she did this the Brigadier dropped to a bow only when the hoofsteps of her majesty were just out of reach did he straighten up.
“Ha ha! I’m finally free!” taking a seat in his still uncomfortable chair. “I should probably get the old group together, they’re going to love this,” Now who will temporarily take my place? It’ll be a colonel definitely, but who? I guess Crescent, he is my second in command after all.
Starburst began writing out the paperwork necessary to clear his old friends’ schedules. Three were needed for the each of them, and all were leaders of a group. He’d have the leaderless groups go into training while he and his friends were out on an adventure. It’ll be like the good old days.
[Everfree Castle, 3 March,5 AD; 7:07 PM]
Celestia lay in bed exhausted, all she wanted to do was sleep. Her day began waking up at eight. When noon arrived, so did the commencing of day court. The court mainly consisted of pesky and or fearful nobles demanding to know the reason why there were so many guards stationed all over the city. Occasionally the average pony would walk in and ask the same thing or ask something of actual importance. But after four hours she had a rest and ate.
After having lunch she had to now deal with paperwork. Signing sheet after sheet, and the occasional crumpling of a scroll and tossing it. She was halfway done when she found an interesting scroll. On it was, “Order: Locating the Threat Veigar” looking towards the bottom she saw her sister’s signature, but not her own. Immediately she signed it and went out the door.
All in all, her day was eventful. The order needed to commence as soon as possible; otherwise, her kingdom would fall. She was still in pain from yesterday's battle. Her wounds not completely healed, under an illusion were patches of pink skin as well as burn marks. Even her magical reserves were having difficulty rejuvenating. Whatever this creature is, it shall be defeated. If my sister and I are unable to defeat it; then if it comes down to it, we shall use the Elements.
Celestia just laid there, looking up at the ceiling lost in thought. “Sister? Art thou in there? I wish to check up on thee, so I shall be coming in regardless of thy opinion,” looking over to her door Celestia saw Luna open the door and calmly walk in, closing the door behind her.
“Hello Lulu,” she gave her sister a shallow smile and small wave.
“Hello indeed Tia. I hear thou hast been up since eight,” she looked over her sister, the illusion was gone and her wounds were visible. “Art thou alright? Dost thou feel any pain?” she asked as she walked up to the bedside.
“Yes, I do. But do not worry sister, I shall be fine. I just worry for the Brigadier… Have we sent him to his death?” Celestia sighed. “What about thyself? Thou hast fought the creature as well as I.”
“Do not fret about the Brigadier sister, we know of his abilities. He shall be fine. Anyway, do not ask about how I am doing, thou hast taken the most harm. Art thou sure thou should be up and about? Thou must rest sister,” Luna placed a hoof on Celestia’s hoof.
“I just need a night sleep Luna. My magic is low because of all the healing. By tomorrow everything should be healed,” she gave Luna a smile. “Just let me rest, I’ll see you, hopefully, tomorrow morning before you retire.”
“Of course sister, I wish thee a sweet slumber. Good night,” with that said, Luna walked out of the room to continue her duties.
“I’m not sure I will dear sister of mine, my dreams tonight will surely be nightmares,” Celestia closed her eyes and waited for sleep to overcome her senses.
Luna walked through the castle halls it was nearly time for the Night Court and she didn’t want to be late. Many of the issues Celestia couldn’t get through were passed on to her and she didn’t mind a bit. Most of the time it was just a hooful of ponies, and today wasn’t any different. After the court she would simply return to the dream realm and guard the dreams of her subjects. But one thought lingered in her mind since yesterday, If only I was stronger, then mine sister would be well!
“Is power what thou seeks my princess?” a childish voice asked
“Who is there?” Luna immediately looked scanned her surroundings with magic and sight. “Show thyself!”
“I am before thee, princess. Thou just cannot see me yet.”
“We do not have time for thy riddles. Show thyself,” the lunar princess demanded.
“I speak no riddles, thou must open thy eyes-”
“Our eyes are open!” Luna was getting irritated by the disembodied voice.
“Not those eyes silly, but thy mind’s eyes, thy soul’s eyes, as well as thy heart’s eyes; then and only then shall thou may see with thy real eyes. But until then princess, I do wish thy eyes open soon before it is too late,” the childish voice laughed away, it’s voice fading into nothing as time passed.
Luna stood there in thought, Open mine mind’s eyes, mine soul’s eyes, as well as mine heart’s eyes. If that shall grant me the power to defeat that creature then I shall accept this challenge. Tia will surely tell me to avoid such directions, but the voice speaks some truth. If I wish to become stronger in the magics then I must open possibilities.
“Princess Luna, we’ve been searching for thou everywhere. Night Court has already begun and thou were not in Court,” the attendant was panting from her run through the castle.
“We were just on our way Quill. May you tell us who shall we be dealing with today?” Luna began walking once more through the halls to the Courtroom.
“Of course Princess, the first is Clover the Clever apparently an array of her’s has detected an odd magical disturbance and she’s been evaluating it since the day the Gust came,” Quill read off her scroll that levitated before her.
“The Gust?” Luna asked.
“It is referring to the large gust of wind that came from the South not two days ago, the night thou had brought Princess Celestia in such a state.”
“Thank you Quill, and please do continue to keep the subject secret. We cannot have our subjects fall to panic.”
“Of course my princess. The next is Warden Iron Bars, his request is for his guards, or at the very least a portion of them, to be returned. Apparently the prisoners in there are getting, as he says, rowdy,” she said stretching out the last word.
“We see, hopefully he’ll have a reasonable number for us to return; otherwise, we’ll have to decide the number ourselves. Anypony else?”
“Well those two are the most important and more lengthy audiences I suppose, but there are two more after,” she stretched the royal court schedule looking for more names. She was about to roll it back up when a name caught her attention, “Actually there is an interesting name upon the list of audiences.”
“What is the name of this pony?” Luna was somewhat interested and looked over.
“Actually, this creature is not a pony.”
“It is not?” Luna stopped in the middle of the hall, causing Quill to stumble to a halt. Could it be?! No. That creature would never… or would he? “If this creature is not a pony, what is it?” Luna said somewhat hesitant.
“The creature is bipedal by nature,” Luna’s heart sank. “It has to arms,” her mind was running of possibilities. “Oh, and its name it Sorpan and he has wings as well,” Quill gave a smile, her memory being picture perfect.
Luna let out a breath she had no idea she was holding and restarted her walk to the courtroom, “I see, and his request is?”
“Something he could not say princess.”
“That is troublesome, but we shall see what the subject is later on,” a few seconds later they found themselves in front of the Court doors.
“Announcing her majesty, Princess Luna, Co-ruler of Equestria, Princess of the Night, and Mover of the Moon,” a horn sounded and Luna made her way into the room.
Not many here to watch, but that puts less pressure on us at least.
“Oh Princess, keep using those words to hide thy true feelings. The more thou tries to hold it in, the bigger it shall explode,” the whisp of wind made its way out of the courtroom through a window. Laughing, “We wait for thy blood to run princess, we wait. And when thy blood runs, our hunt shall begin."
A chilling laugh flew through the dirt roads of Everfree, those who had listened closely felt the chill up their spines. And for others, it was just another cold breeze.
[South of Everfree, 4 March, 5AD; 8:27 AM]
Today was the day. Brigadier Starburst was at the rendezvous waiting for his comrades. He was ready to go with his saddle bags on and his old scouting uniform on. The rendezvous was the battlefield described in the scroll. When he arrived he immediately surveyed the area. Craters were everywhere corrupt with so called “dark energy.” Across from him was a decimated length of forest from Celestia’s attack. Must have been some battle, I’d hate to be the poor lads who were here.
A rustle of leaves sounded behind him and out came a grey earth pony followed by a green one. “And now thou owes me twenty bits, Vine!” yelled the former in a rough tone.
“Hush now Stoneworks, thou art a tracker. Of course thy skills surpass mine. It twas one sided, but worth a shot,” the earth pony known as Vine said in his posh voice, catching his breath.
“Thou would think being a Major, commanding three squads, would strengthen thy stamina,” Stoneworks said giving a smug grin.
“I still command thee and Lieutenant Highwind, Lieutenant.”
“Calm down the two of thee,” Starburst said as he approached the two. “Where is Highwind? I understand that being late is his thing, but I would prefer to have this done as soon as possible,”Starburst pulled out a pocket watch from his saddle bag.
On queue a loud roar was heard and a pegasus came crashing down into the forest opening, causing another crater. “Huh… Already giving away our position. High Wind you never change,” Starburst turned around facing a white pegasus with a silver mane.
“Why would I ever want to change?” Highwind climbed out of his small crater. “Making an entrance was always my kind of thing. Remember that time when we were in the Badlands?”
“Which one? The time thou got captured because thou made an entrance or that time when thou were captured when thou got there late?” Stoneworks quipped.
“The entrance actually. Making an explosion in the sky served its purpose by the way,” he stated matter of factually.”
Starburst looked at the time, it was now eight thirty-nine and they were nine minutes off schedule, “Alright, enough of thy mucking about. We’re behind schedule, and who knows how long we’ll be out there. Do we have everything we need?”
Vine spoke up first, “Herbs, medicine, cookware and such are accounted for as well as my sword.” He gave the bags on his back a bounce, the sound of pans clanking against one another sounding.
“Rope, tools, supplies, my trusty hammer,” Stoneworks was looking in his bag.
“And I have my binoculars, bow, and arrows.”
Starburst had expected more from the pegasus, “That’s it?”
“Thou said it would be like the good days, so I prepared as if it were,” Highwind gave smile.
“For Celestia’s sake… Nope, I am not dealing with this,” Starburst gave a sigh. “Anyway, rank up,” the three ponies lined up side by side with Vine to the far right.
“So here’s the briefing, apparently the next threat to Equestria, the princesses and the entirety of Equus is in this here forest. Our task is to search and report the location of this creature. We are not to engage in anyway, shape, or form. Do I make myself clear?”
There was a resounding, “Yes, sir.”
“Good. The so called creature looks like a very small minotaur or diamond dog. It wears a large purple hat, as well as wears a purple suit of sorts, like a noble. The creature also carries a staff. This creature is very dangerous, if you look around this was caused by the creature excluding the burned down forest. The creature’s name is Veigar, probably should've said that first. He fought both the princesses, he also killed several of our soldiers at the same time. Any questions?” Starburst said.
“Just one,” it came from Highwind. “If we encounter him and are spotted what is our directive?”
“According to the scroll, run. Any other questions?” he was answered with silence. “No? Then let us be on our way. Patrols in the area reveal that he most likely fled South and that is the direction we shall be going. There’s also a river up ahead, if anything he’ll set up a camp near there. Let’s move,” The four soldiers; two earth ponies, a pegasus, and a unicorn, left the forest clearing and disappeared into the forest.
[Southern Everfree Forest, 4 March, 5AD; 12:35 PM]
I’ve been running for a good day now, after that debacle with those horses I’ve just been running. I haven't gotten an ounce of sleep, but I did stumble upon a river. After determining the direction I was going in via the sun, which was South, I had decided it best to go upstream.
“I hate this stupid mountain…” I was tired, hungry, and annoyed. Going up the river was horrible, I was even using my staff as a hiking stick at this point. “I know the freshest water is at its source, but this is ridiculous,” I was looking up at the mountain and I wasn’t even halfway up.
“Maybe it would have been better to have been captured. Food given as a prisoner, a welcoming stone floor, iron bars to wake up to… And talking to myself like I already am,” I sighed, I was losing my mind.
“Do not fret youngling, we will have our revenge! They shall pay!”
“What?” I looked around searching for the source of the sound and all I saw was forest and river. “Definitely going insane,” I really need to stop talking to myself out loud. I also really need a break.
Looking at my surrounding I found myself still in the forest on the bank of a river, “This is as good as it can get, I guess... And I’m still doing it.”
I walked over to a large tree, I took my hat off and placed it on my staff, and leaned my staff against the tree and sat down, “Water source secured, firewood is another priority as well as food. It’s nearly around noon.” Now was the best of times to recollect my thoughts.
So my most recent normal memory was Anime-con and buying this here staff, I looked over to my staff. And after that I was waking up to talking horses, followed by something out of anime. I thought, thinking about the battle.
I did all that… I killed… I fucking killed living creatures. Sure, I was threatened, but death? I didn’t want that… Then those two. I sighed, sleep sounded good right now under the shade of the tree.
Yea that’d be great… Sleep sounds like a great idea. Glad we can finally agree on something… Then and there I let my consciousness drift away into bliss. After all what could possibly go wrong. A hunt?
Author's Note
Chapter 2, technically 3, is now out! Thank you so very much for the positive feedback. Not a lot of Veigar/ Julian in this chapter, I know. But last chapter was nearly all from his perspective. This is basically a "context chapter" for the big stuff that is to happen in the next couple of chapters. I gave away what will happen later on in the story, but ya'll would've figured it out from this one. Scorpan is here now, as well as, as one would call it, the "wispiest of winds."
See plot holes already? Typos? Are questioning the physics of this reality? or need the proof why the derivative of e^x is e^x?! Then look no further than the comment section my good friend! As per the usual, please do comment and or like to show some semblance of support. Then again that's all up to you, I'm just begging. Let's get that 22 like milestone. Hope you enjoyed and hope you keep reading.
Chapter III: Masks, Magic and Mayhem
Chapter III: Mask, Magic and Mayhem
[Everfree Castle, 4 March, 5AD; 3:06 PM]
Celestia sat on her throne looking over the courtroom, it wasn’t as comfortable as the one in the throne room but it serves its purpose. Her sister was at her right side sitting on her own throne, both were at equal heights and stature. To her left was Quill, with a quill in her magic, ready to write the events to come.
The courtroom was empty save for the guards posted about, the Princesses and Quill, and Scorpan himself. Unfortunately for Scorpan, he had to return the next day to have audience with the Princesses as there was no time for him last night. He had to wait.
The creature before Celestia was one she had never seen before. The being known as Scorpan, looked like a manticore that stood like a minotaur. She played around in her head what to categorize him as, Mantitaur or a minocore. I shall wait for him to tell me, I do not want to offend him.
“Thy name is Scorpan correct? We apologize for not attending to thee last night. What is thy request?” Luna asked, her tone emotionless, but gave a sense of authority.
“Aye, I am Scorpan. I come bearing a warning,” Scorpan knelt before the two princesses, his head facing the ground and his hands on his knee.
“A warning?” Celestia asked, her face forming a frown.
“Aye, a warning. My brother Tirek and I came to Equestria from beyond the so called Bad Lands. He came to conquer it and I joined him in su-”
Scorpan was suddenly cut off by Celestia, “So thou art another threat to the peace of Equestria. Tell us why we should not imprison you now?” Celestia was standing over him, her wings were flared and a shadow shrouding Scorpan.
He showed no sign of fear, still kneeling before her, he looked up to look her right in her eyes, “I come not as an enemy your majesty, I come to give you a warning. Through my time here I have become… infatuated with one of the mares here. I did not want to see her in pain, I did not want her to suffer, I did not want to see her in despair. So I have come to you to tell of my brother’s plot.”
“Then thou art betraying thy own blood for a mare. A noble cause, but how can we trust thee?” Luna asked.
“I have no immediate proof… My love was killed by my brother,” Scorpan spoke with disdain, spitting the last word. “He crushed my hopes and dreams, and I will do the same. I can not fight my brother alone, but I can see to that his goals are crushed. He has the ability to drain his enemies of their magic. He will drain your ponies of all their magic, and then come for you. He seeks to control the whole of Equus, the Griffons, the Minotaurs , and so on. And all he needs is your magic.”
Scorpan stopped speaking and silence fell over the room, the sound of a quill scratching parchment broke the silence soon after. Quill was writing away, the guards were unmoving, Scorpan was once more facing the ground in silence, unmoving, and the two princesses were in silence. In unison the two faced one another after Celestia took her seat.
Sister if he is speaking the truth then we must take action.
I know Luna… But first it was Veigar, and now it’s a creature name Tirek. We need to figure out who to prioritize, “Scorpan how would thou rate thy brother a threat?” Celestia was once again facing Scorpan.
“In all honesty if he gains too much power, he will be more powerful than Discord. I’ve heard stories about him, but my brother... He is anger, he is power, and he will crush any who get in his way.”
Sister this is indeed a problem. Two creatures, one who has already matched us and another who may match us. If they were to join forces…
I understand… We have to deal with them as soon as possible. One by one if possible. I pray that the Brigadier locates Veigar, “Have Scorpan escorted to a room, we have much to discuss later. We shall see thee later to discuss thy brother, please do rest.”
“Aye, Princess. Thank you. I hope that it is not too late,” that said Scorpan stood up and gave the two a nod. Turning around he made his way out of the courtroom, trailed by two guards.
“The Court is now over, please make your way out,” Celestia ordered, the guards marched out in unison and Quill went off to archive the events.
Celestia leaned into her throne, the cushion supporting her back and sighed, “I am so very tired Lulu. Sombra, Discord, the Windigos themselves. They brought chaos, despair, slavery. The evil of this world never ceases…” tears formed and slid down Celestia’s cheek, dropping and splashing onto her regalia. “I’m so tired Lulu, so, so tired of all of this,” Celestia let the tears fall as she closed her eyes. “I- I don’t know if I can do this for eternity, I already just, just wa-”
Celestia’s sorrowful monologue was cut off as Luna hugged her sister. The two were locked in an embrace, “It is alright Cel, we can do this. We have to, for them.”
Silence fell over the room once more, periodically broken by the cries of the solar princess. The two were simply there, embracing one another, comforting one another, letting masks break as Luna let her own tears fall.
[Southern Everfree Forest, 5 March, 5AD; 9:45 AM]
I awoke to an unpleasant ray of light breaking through the branches of the tree I was resting on. The sound of the river in front of me was pleasant, it wasn’t a raging river, but a very wide calm stream. I tried to shift my position, but another ray of light hit my left eye.
“Insufferable sun, I just want to rest,” I thought about the idea of the quote unquote sun princess purposely aiming at me. “Ha, control the sun. That’s impossible. The mass of the bloody thing should be around 1.989 times ten to the thirty. And for it to rotate around a small planet is unbelievable. It would go against the laws of physics.”
Standing up from the tree I took note of my surroundings. The river I heard was calmly flowing, the tree behind me was fairly massive compared to the many others. Its silver trunk was basically the size of a house. The trunk by itself stretched beyond the forest canopy, and unlike others, its leaves were midnight blue. “Well aren’t you a beauty.”
I know nothing of botany, but I know beauty when I see it. The leaves seemed to shimmer in the light as they rustled in the wind. I decided to examine the entirety of the tree, walking around I found a calm pond. “Must’ve been part of the river, but was cut off.”
The pond itself was a beauty as well, much like the tree it had a sort of shimmer to it. It was so very calming as birds sung their songs, squirrels ran across the forest floor, the tall grass blowing in the wind, it was bliss.
“We only have so much time you fool, they’ll find us at this rate we have to keep moving. That is unless you want to fight,” again it was that voice that kept coming back.
“Who is it! I know you’re here,” again I found myself looking around at my surroundings. Every time I heard its voice, I checked my surroundings. And again, there was no one.
I found myself staring at the pond, my reflection staring back at me. With my hat off, I saw my face. Covered in a light blue fur, a scar running down my right eye, and both of my eyes were golden. Gone were my human ears, and upon my head were cat like ears. I now know what I am. I am a yordle. A species from the game League of Legends. I continued to stare at my reflection until I noticed something odd, it was frowning and its brows were slanted down, and to my surprise it spoke. “How long are you going to stare at me!? You’ve had your fill, now we must leave!"
I jumped back as soon as my reflection spoke, “Goodness gracious! What the hell!”
“This is no time for dawdling around! We need to keep running you welp, otherwise they’ll find us!”
“Who the hell are you?” I asked as I approached the pond.
“Since you are an incompetent fool! I will tell you so we can move on. I am Veigar, Master of Evil!”
“Okay… How in the hell are you here?”
“I know not how I came to be here with you, but what I do know is that I am attached to you. I have no control whatsoever, and if I did I would continue to run! As much as I would love to get to know you, if you get caught and die, I get caught and die!” my reflection had a point, I angered those two so much that we fought. What’s even worse is that I sort of beat them.
“Alright, fine. We’ll do it your way, I just need to grab my or should I say our things?”
“Grammar matters little right now.”
“True,” I was about to run over to the other side of tree when I heard voices.
“You see! They found us, if you had just listened to me everything would have been fine.”
“Shut up, I need to think…” I sat their in a bush as the ponies were making their way across the stream. I saw a stone grey horse and a green one dash across the stream, the orange unicorn teleported across, while a white pegasus flew over it.
“Nice job Stoneworks,” the orange one said. “Thy ground tracking skills are sharp.”
“Eh,” was all the grey one said.
“Anyway,” now it was the pegasus speaking. “Where is this so called great evil?”
“I don’t know, but keep an eye on the perimeter, he could still be around,” again it was the orange one who spoke.
Must be the leader.
“Of course. Take him out and they will be in disarray!”
Shut up…
Unlike the rest the green one immediately noticed the tree, “Astounding! I have never seen such a beauty!”
“Save the sightseeing for later Vine,” the one known as Stoneworks said.
“You need to understand the beauty of nature sometime, Stoneface,” Vine said.
Stoneworks ignored him and said no more, instead he was examining the ground between the tree and stream. As he examined the tree I noticed he was slowly approaching me in my bush. Step after step, he got closer and closer. I was holding my breath afraid that he may hear it. I did my best to stand as still as possible, even as a spider crawled across my face. He was so close right now, mere inches from me. Shit! I should’ve listened to the voice! I’m no fighter! I ca-
“Stallions on me,” as soon as the order was given the three stallions made there way to their leader. When I felt that the horse was far enough I allowed myself to breath once more.
“Alright, Highwind I need thee to deliver this to the princesses as soon as possible,” Starburst ordered as he shoved the piece of paper into his bag.
“Yes sir.”
“We need to stop them!” the voice in my head yelled.
You think I don’t know that.
“Vine, Stone, we’re heading back.”
“Yes sir.”
Shit! Now or never. Seeing that time was running out I ran out of the bush, using my magic to pull my staff and hat to me. In one smooth motion I casted Event Horizon as well as Dark Matter upon them. But I was too late. The unicorn and his team vanished before the spells hit them and they were now off to the side.
“Well done pitiful creatures!” Great now he’s talking for me…
“Starburst what do we do?”
“Highwind, thou art are only hope we need that scroll delivered yesterday! We’ll hold him off!” He yelled as he faced me.
“Alright, good luck. I’ll hurry and do not fret, help shall arrive!” with that said the pegasus was about to take off, when a hand grabbed, “Ah, shit!” He was being hoisted in the air by a red and centaur.
“Ha ha ha, what delectable treats,” the centaur said has he opened his mouth and a mist traveled between the now screaming pony and into his maw. As soon as the stallion was depleted of all his mist the centaur threw him down on to the ground and stomped on him, coating the grass in blood. The centaur continued his feast by grabbing the grey and green horses by their tails and doing the same to them.
The unicorn erected a shield around him and began to shoot energy bolts at him through the shield. Each and everyone of them simply bouncing off the centaur. “You are feeble and weak! You are nothing compared to me unicorn!” the centaur yelled down at the unicorn. Between his two horns a ball of energy formed and shot out at the unicorn bypassing his shield and obliterating him.
“Ha ha ha ha! Such weaklings, such a feast, and now is your turn!” the centaur turned toward me, his massive stature stretched just beyond the canopy. I already felt small and now I felt even smaller.
“Such brute strength, such magic prowess, who are you?” again it was the voice in my head who spoke, but I had no problem with it. We faced two rulers of a kingdom, this guy can’t be that bad. I hope.
“Very well puny ant, I shall tell you my name and you shall be honored that you will die by my hands! I am Tirek! The true ruler of Equus!”
“Well then Tirek, prepared to get wrecked, no pun intended,” with that I launched a Baleful Strike at him, surprisingly it was strong enough to push him back, but boy was he pissed.
“Agh! It appears I underestimated you! Ha ha ha! No matter you’ll never measure up to me! Ha ha ha ha!” again, I was being mocked about my height…
“Were those short jokes! I will see that you are nothing but ash!” I quickly casted Dark Matter to rain down upon him, this time it wasn’t like the one with Celestia, but a full on hail of it. All of it was centralized around him as soon as he attempted to rush me I threw up an Event Horizon to stun him and continued my onslaught. “You are nothing to me centaur, you are just another ant in my path.”
Those were my last words as I found myself being tossed like a rag doll over the forest. The sensation of wind blowing past me, I was flying. Actually, it was more like I was tossed sideways really really fast giving me the sensation of flight. Either way I felt like a bird. Looking behind me I saw Tirek was following me, rampaging through the forest leaving it decimated in his path. Looking forward in the distance I saw I was headed straight for civilization. Shit, I get to see those two again.
“We should’ve dealt with those two when we had the chance.”
Really?
“Of course I mean it. It would have been simple. We had the chance to finish the white one off and we didn’t!”
Right… I couldn’t help but think that I was getting use to this guy. I barely knew it, we had just met a few moments ago, and I’m acting like we’re all buddy buddy. I continued to ponder in thought until I came crashing into something.
“Fuck! That fucking hurt!,” I was in a lot of pain, hitting what appears to be a stonewall is no fun. I stood up, and looked at my surroundings. I was in an ornate room with lovely wooden furniture, a nice hearth to keep warm by, a giant gaping hole in the wall to let the fresh air in. All in all it was nice, minus the hole obviously. It also appeared that the wall collapsed on someone, provided the amount of blood that covered the floor.
Moments later the doors to the room burst open revealing the two Princesses and a contingent of guards.
“Veigar!” Celestia yelled at me letting her mane and tail catch on fire. The expanding into the room I was in, her eyes were white with power, “Thou dare come to our home to wreak havoc upon our subjects, thou shall know true pain!”
It was then I saw Celestia begin to charge one over spells, not taking the chance I began to cast Event Horizon to stun her from using it. Just as she was about to lean forward, my spell activated stunning her, I mentally sighed in relief, “I have no time for this! If you wish for vengeance, come join us.”
I jumped out of the hole revealing to them Tirek rampaging through the forest towards the city’s wall that came up to his waist. Using my magic I settled myself down upon the ground before I could become a pile of crushed meat. Looking up I saw that I had traveled down at least three stories, doing so I felt my spell release and Celestia’s spell commencing. A ray of light shot out of the hole I had made, just missing Tirek’s head.
“Just fucking great, we’re about to enter a threeway free for all. A giant centaur, two horses, and myself… What the fuck is going on,” there was no escape for me now. I had very limited choices before me; run and be hunted by the horses, run and be hunted by a centaur, or fight and try to survive. I chose the latter.
[Everfree, 5 March, 5AD; 12:37 PM]
Tirek galloped through the forest as if it were nothing. He had flung the wretched yordle off in some direction, what he had not expected to find was Everfree, the capital of Equestria. I shall kill that thing as well as the princesses, murdering two birds with one stone.
“Ha ha ha ha!” Tirek laughed as he crushed the many trees in his way. Approaching the city he saw the tree high wall. Again he laughed, the size of the wall itself was measly. He could easily jump over it, but his laughing came to an end when a ray of light erupted out from the castle, just missing his head.
“Celestia!” he roared. “I will have your head for this after I drain you of all your magic and rape you!” Tirek’s gallop quickly hastened, growing closer and closer to the wall. The archers tried shooting arrows, but the efforts were fruitless. Soon, Tirek found himself at the wall and hurdled over it, his mere jump reached twice the height of the wall. And unfortunately for the ponies below he cared little to where he landed.
Ponies ran out of there homes when they heard the second crash. The first one caught there attention, but were reassured by the guards. This one on the other hand, had their immediate attention. Tirek crashed into the city demolishing house after house and the ponies within.
Tirek surveyed the sight before him, ponies were scurrying around trying to find cover, the castle had a massive hole in one of its towers, the guards around him; quaking in the armor, “What pitiful creatures, so feeble and weak,” he muttered to himself.
“Celestia! Luna! Show thyself and surrender! If you do so, thy deaths will be swift! Otherwise! Thy precious ponies suffer!” Tirek immediately began forming a ball of energy in between his horns. The black orb hummed with power, ready to strike at anything.
Minutes passed as Tirek stood there in the middle of trade district. A mass of guards surrounded him, both on ground and by air. If anything what those ponies from before demonstrated was that these would also be ants in his way.
“I grow tired of waiting. If thou shalt not face me, I shall slaughter thy precious ponies,” The ball of energy between his horns began emitting small arcs of electricity, soon bolts of lightning shot out at the guards each making their presence known with a roar. Each bolt jumped from one guard to another, shocking those around the one who was struck.
Just as the mass of guards began to flee from the mayhem, a blinding flash revealed Celestia hovering over the guards. She wore steel armor tinted gold, runes were etched into it and enchantments casted upon it strengthening it, her mane and tail were once again consumed by an inferno, “Tirek! Thou shalt stop and face Us in combat!”
Tirek turned over to the flaming alicorn, ceasing his killing spree, “Celestia, so thou hast finally arrived! Tell me, where is my beloved brother, so I can strangle that good for nothing traitor!”
“We would never tell thee, even if thou were to beg,” Celestia stared down at the centaur, “Thou shalt stop thy actions and peacefully surrender.”
“Thou honestly expect me to simply give in after all I have done to get this far with my work!” Tirek then began charging another sphere of energy between his horns, “Thou resort to words after I slaughtered thy pathetic army! Thou art a fool to believe that I would surrender!”
Enraged by the display of weakness the solar princess showed, Tirek fired a beam of magic at her. Expecting the obvious attack, Celestia raised a directional shield against the attack. The beam splattered across the shield, shifting around it and past Celestia. Realizing his attack was having no effect, he pulled more magic from his reserves. With even more magic, his beam began to rapidly push Celestia back.
She quickly regained her ground by thrusting herself into the beam. This proved to be a mistake as her shield began crack. Shards of it fell off and dissipated, noticing the situation she put herself into, she immediately began charging a teleportation spell. This took longer than usual as she had to defend herself. As soon as it was ready though, Tirek’s beam pushed past her defense.
Tirek continued to focus his beam upon the princess, not taking a single risk, “The mighty princess of Equestria! How does it feel princess! To be burned!” Tirek began to laugh maniacally as his beam of magic began to fade away. As it did so it revealed that the princess was consumed by his power. And I was looking forward to seeing her tears as I raped her and her sister.
As Tirek imagined himself inside both the princesses, he had not noticed the sky turning red. He was brought out of his stupor when bolts of magic were shot at his back. Turning around he found Celestia staring back at him from a distance, “We know not the feeling of burned, perhaps thou shall describe it to us.”
Celestia shot out another stream of light as Tirek, unlike the ones she had recently performed, this one enveloped the entirety of Tirek. They ray obliterated everything in its path, the homes of ponies were turned to ash when the beam hit them. The ray was so powerful that it reached beyond the city limits from where she was. Everything that was near, but not in the direct line of fire, immediately caught fire. Celestia had weighed her options, This is for the whole of Equestria. Tears fell down from her closed eyes.
If she had been fully aware, she would have noticed the red fist colliding into her. When the fist made contact, it was immediately burnt black. Celestia on the other hand was sent flying, parts of her armor flew off due to the straps tearing. As she flew, Celestia was limb, flying through the sky like a thrown doll. Her flight came to an immediate halt as she crashed into more homes of ponies. She radiated so much heat that even more homes caught fire.
Celestia laid there dazed, bloodied, bruised and partly broken, processing what happened. Trying to think, she hissed in pain as her entire left side felt broken. She could hear the distant steps of Tirek getting closer. Was this it? Just five years of freedom for her little ponies. Just five?
No! I shall not falter...
For the sake of these ponies, I shall not fail them...
I can not fail them.
With renewed vigor, she used her magic to heal herself. Like a phoenix, she rose from her crater of ash and dust and with one push of her wings launched herself out of it. Reaching high above the city, she radiated like a second sun in the sky. Without hesitation she launched herself at the centaur who was eager to fight. The two collided in the center of the city, magic meeting brawn.
Author's Note
Greetings reader!
Personally I really enjoyed writing this chapter. It was longer than what I thought it would be and a lot of ideas were tossed around, many of which I will use. I did not think that all of this would happen so soon, its just chapter three! But seeing as where things were going, I decided I wanted to keep this stuff under ten chapters. Seeing as stuff is climaxing for the antagonist/protagonist, I have no idea what to call him, it shall soon come to an end obviously. Besides I can't keep him locked up in this time frame forever, got to make use of some character tags y'know?
But otherwise, I hope I did not disappoint, seeing that I didn't publish anything last week. Summer school can be unpleasant at times, even though I love my academics. The system is just stupid if you ask me. But I digress, As per the now usual, comment, like, favorite, or not do any of that. If there are any mistakes feel free to point them out. I edit these myself and I'm somewhat of a stickler for grammar, I'll berate myself, "Why didn't I see that?!" That and I'm a bit paranoid. Anyway, thank you for reading, hope you keep reading, and [insert outro here].
Chapter IV: Sanity Found in Madness
Chapter IV: Sanity Found in Madness
[Everfree, 5 March, 5 AD; 1:57PM]
The sound of battle roared throughout the medieval city. Stone-walled thatch-roofed homes were being decimated by the two god-like creatures in the far distance. One explosion after another, the two titans clashed upon one another in both magical ability and strength. It seemed as though the world was coming to an end with all the destruction going on and the blood red sky casting the ground below in crimson.
I watched all of this transpire from a balcony garden on the castle. With each explosion I felt the wind push against my small stature, one nearly blowing my hat off. And as cool as this all was I knew I stay here forever. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something bad was about to occur.
In the distance I saw Celestia soar into the sky, suddenly swooping back down with a beam of magic cutting into the ground. Tirek held firm in the rubble, facing Celestia, ready to either take the damage or counter it with his own magic. In the back of my mind I knew Luna was looking for me since she wasn’t fighting along her sister. I turned around ready to escape these forsaken horses and centaur, but just as I did so I saw the midnight blue princess at the entrance before me.
“This is where thou hast been hiding. Thou hast nowhere else to go, but to face me. We demand of thee to surrender peacefully!” Luna brandished her many floating swords -eight in fact, all pointed at me- as she walked towards me.
“Well if it isn’t the fair Princess Luna,” I said as I gave a bow for my own entertainment -if I’m going insane, I’m going insane willingly. “Should you not be assisting your sister? It seems if this whole ordeal doesn’t end soon, well… There won’t be a city anymore,” I gestured behind me.
“We have faith in our sister, heathen. We have agreed that I shall face you, whilst she fends off Tirek. We have more than enough strength to defeat you,” she stated in a matter of fact tone as she approached me.
“Defeat me? After that horrendous defeat several days ago? You are quite foolish. Thought you’d be wiser than that,” I said as I paced back and forth on the edge of the balcony.
“Us? Defeated? After thou had ran away with thy tail between thy legs? Thou art an arrogant fool! You were an unfamiliar opponent we had never encountered before, thou had the advantage of surprise. But because of thy arrogance we thwarted you,” she surrounded me with her eight levitating swords.
I stopped my pacing and looked out once more at the scene of the two titans fighting, “You know nothing about me, and yet seem to claim that you know me after meeting me once. I never thought that god-like creatures could be so stupid!” I yelled while stomping my staff into the ground.
“We shall have thy head you incompetent fool!”
The blades around me swiftly moved at her command, flying straight toward me from all eight directions. Shit! I yelled in my head, thankfully the other guy acted quickly, dropping us off the edge and grabbing the ledge. In fractions of a second I heard the clangs of the swords embedding themselves into the soil.
“You can thank me later you incompetent fool! For now, stay out of my way!”
Really? You too? I questioned receiving no response from the Veigar.
I could hear Luna gallop towards the ledge of the balcony and it was just before she got there that Veigar pulled us up to punch her right in the muzzle, forcing her to reel back. Taking advantage of dazing her we called down Dark Matter upon her. The explosion left a large crater in the ground and as the cloud of dust dissipated I saw the princess kneeling in pain.
“I thought you had the strength to fight me?!” I cackled as I looked down upon her beaten form. “This is no fight, it’s a beat down. I almost feel bad about crushing your pathetic form. Almost.”
I continued to berate her with energy blasts as I laughed in joy, and it wasn’t just Veigar who was laughing but myself as well. I was feeling joy beating up another living creature. Enjoying myself, I left my guard down and failed to notice the shaking swords in the ground behind us. “You are a pathetic fool to think you could have beaten us! Because of your own arrogance you have failed yourself, your sister, and your king-“
Before I could say anymore, the feeling of my body being pierced, tossed and hitting a wall came in quick succession. Opening my eyes, I found my face implanted into the castle’s walls. The feeling of eight wounds and blood pouring out of them quickly registered in my mind. Shit! This is not good! I am so fucked! So, so, so, so… wait… I feel nothing… why?
I tossed the idea of being unable to feel pain, but in my head I could hear screaming. Something was writhing in pain. Veigar? You uh… okay? Veigar?
“Shut up you bumbling idiot!”
My bad…
As it turned out, Veigar was the one feeling all the pain that Luna inflicted upon us, meaning either two things: He felt all our pain, or because he was in control he absorbed all of it. I continued to run other plausible ideas in my head and failed to recognize Luna’s “victory” speech.
“-solence we have captured thee. Thou thought to have us beat, but we have once again thwarted thy plans. Thy own hubris is the true cause of thy fall. Once our sister is finished, thou will be imprisoned. We shall begin to start the reconstruction of Everfree, and the ponies shall grow to love us more! And finally, just maybe we… we-“
“Shut up!” I yelled, interrupting her. If there was one thing I absolutely hated it was people talking while I was trying to hypothesize and theorize my ideas. “I am trying to run some hypotheses in my head. I am trying to concentrate... Talk about rude.”
Luna was taken aback by my sudden interruption, and was enraged by it. She magically pulled my head back and began smashing my head against the wall repeatedly. With each pull I felt my body slide against the blades, still feeling no pain whatsoever. With each hit came the sound of stone crunching against my now bleeding face. Finally, she pulled me off the wall and tossed me into the ground whilst pulling her blades out of me. “Thou art testing our patience, we told our sister we would try to bring thee back alive. But our sister shan't mind thy death, after all thou art another hindrance to our beloved country's growth.”
Her blades floated above my head, threatening to plunge into it. I still couldn’t move, and my staff was nowhere in sight. Still unable to move, I stared at the sword ready to plunge into my face and through my skull. The other voice in my head had gone quiet, leaving me to my own thoughts. Great, Damocles hangs over my head… I never wanted any of this shit to happen to me… It just did. Now here I am after just what? Three days, four? I am about to die after just that?! No! Fuck that shit! I’m in a new god damn world! I’m taking advantage of everything! And when I say everything, I mean everything!
I laid there in thought as the sword spun so painfully slow, awaiting the sword to greet my face. In a couple of seconds, Luna let go of her sword and it began to fall. I quickly closed my eyes, not wanting to see it crash into my skull. But it never came, instead I heard the sound of it sink into the soil. After that I heard Luna grunt, followed by a thud, and then a crash. Looking up, I saw a Celestia over her sister unconscious, and Luna under her struggling to get out.
Ha, ha! This is my chance! My hope of surviving this shot up exponentially, so much so there was a green flash of light around me, forcing me to shut my eyes. Opening them, I felt the sensation of adrenaline run through me.
”It seems you aren’t totally useless. Now step aside while I finish this!”
You? Finish this? Really? You’ve nearly killed us several goddamn times! No! Hell the fuck no! Am I letting you control me once more you little piece of shit! I am Veigar Evander Fold, and I will not be controlled! Not by anyone, not by any horse, not by a fucking centaur and especially not by you! I don’t need you telling me what to fucking do! So back the fuck off! I yelled at the voice in my head, and boy did it feel good. I actually felt in control ever since I ended up here, I felt powerful. It wasn’t the same kind of power that I had with him, no, this felt like my own. It felt tangible in a way. Surprisingly, the voice never spoke back. In fact, my head felt lighter than it had before.
With renewed vigor I immediately got up and magically pulled my staff to me, I had no idea how I was doing any of this. It was all just instinct. Looking over to the two sisters, I saw Luna squirming to get out from under her sister. “After all that talk about defeating me, standing triumphant, capturing me; you fail to do so. I am so, so, so disappointed by this failure. True, you had surprised me, but I was never truly in peril.”
“You called me arrogant, a fool, and look at where we are now…” I gestured around us. “The one who lays defeated and the one who stands triumphant. I am not trying to dismay you, in fact, come at me with all your might. You still shall lose.”
“Tis odd, thy ‘triumphant stance’ is no bigger than us on our knees,” she spat the words as she struggled for freedom. The insult had caught my attention, she was calling me short. Time after time in this forsaken world I have been called short. Albeit three creatures I think, but still I hate being called short...
“Still after defeat, you continue annoy me,” my eye was twitching under frustration. “Attempting to insult my intelligence is one thing, but belittling me and talking over me while I think! Prepare to die you fucking horse.”
Energy coursed through my body as I charged a ball of energy in my right hand that wore the gauntlet. In between the plates of armor glowed a purple hue that shot like tendrils. Unlike my other abilities, this one was not a ball of energy with said energy flowing out, it was more like energy crushed into the shape of a ball. None of it escaping into the atmosphere. For several seconds I had charged it, and it was already the size of a small house and there was no sign of it stopping. “I have told you time and time again that I shall show you true power! Behold! I give you the Entropy!
“With any system, it tends to the highest point of entropy. A state in the universe where all matter is diluted evenly across the ever expanding universe, a point where all activity ceases in the universe. And I shall give you a glimpse of that with your trifle capital.” I stared at the two princesses, Celestia had awoken some time ago as I charged Entropy. The look on their faces, of helplessness, of defeat, of crushed hopes and dreams. I was soaking it all in. A smile formed on my lips, and it grew, and grew, until I began laughing maniacally.
The occasion was so delectable and sweet. But it was cut short by the still living centaur who had apparently been in his own unconscious state. “Celestia! I will have your head for this!” the idiotic centaur charged through the city, crushing house after house. I was unable to tell if he did not see the spell I was casting or if he cared at all. Either case I did not care.
He will serve as a lovely example, and at the same time I will destroy this forsaken city and all its inhabitants. What a lovely day to find sanity in my own madness. I turned around to face the beatial titan. Using another instinctual spell, I amplified my voice, “Tirek! What a lovely surprise to see you here! I had surely thought Celestia had killed you, but this is even better! No I get to kill you!”
“You!” he called out. “I see you’re still alive! And what is that? My next meal? Very well! Show me what strength a puny creature such as yourself have?!”
Without warning, without sound, I let the energy flow out to him like a serpent. It snaked through the still blood red sky, twisting and turning, encircling Tirek. “Any last words filth? Actually, no. You don’t deserve the honor of having true last words. Let your final breath o life be of you yelling in pain!”
Like the wrath of a god, any clouds in the way parted as the halo’s glow grew. The blinding light became stronger than the sun itself, engulfing the sky as well as the land. I would see to it that Entropy engulf this entire universe for my own amusement.
[Canterlot, 22 June, 984 AD; 10:57 PM]
Princess Celestia was having the most relaxing of times in the Canterlot Royal Garden, she was enjoying her favourite time of the day, brunch. With her was her protege, the young filly by the name of Twilight Sparkle. Celestia looked over to her most prized and only pupil, who had her nose in a book as held a cup of cold tea in the air. Celestia smiled at this, The filly must learn to make conversation with others, or at the very least finish her tea. Now, I wonder if…
“Princess Celestia?” at least she proved her wrong for now on one aspect.
“Yes Twilight, what is the matter,” she said as she set down her tea to give her pupil her undivided attention.
“I’m reading this book on the Everfree Forest, it talks about all the currently known flora and fauna,” Twilight surmised and took a sip of the cold tea, not noticing the change in its temperature.
“I’m listening.”
“But there’s a problem with it,” she levitated the book over to her mentor.
“A problem?” Celestia asked in a quizzical tone. She quickly scanned through the summary and the chapter titles, “Twilight, I fail to see what the problem is with the book…” It was a rare occasion for her to fail to understand her pupil.
“The title, History of the Everfree Forest, but that title is a farce!” in frustration Twilight raised her hooves in frustration.
“And why is that?” the topic had piqued her interest.
“It fails to talk about how the Forest came to be! It doesn’t even gloss over it! So! I was wondering if you knew anything about its formation princess! Afterall, there’s the castle in the Everfree, and you use to live there!” Twilight jumped onto the table in intellectual excitement. But instead of seeing her mentor’s gentle smile, she saw a cold stern face in its place. “Princess…?”
“I shall tell you this Twilight, and only this. Entropy.”

Hello, creatures of various proportions! Her is another chapter for your entertainment. I apologize for such a delay, but school sucks as well as rewriting the same chapter several time because I didn't like it. When writing this I thought it would be longer, but as it turns out... It's not. It's actually pretty short. But even still, this was all I wanted in this chapter, so mission accomplished!
As per the usual, like if you like, comment if you want to spread the positivity, follow if you want to follow, and all that other stuff. I accept criticism of almost all degrees, and if you a grammatical error comment! Thank you! I'll physically see you all never!
Chapter V: Set in Stone
[Unknown, Error, Unavailable; --:--]
“Sister...”
“Sister?”
“Celestia!”
A muffled voice again and again called out to me. It seemed familiar, as far as I could tell it was a she. The voice was pleading with me, wake up , it said, wake up! But that was quite a silly notion, after all I’m already up. I look over my kingdom with a gentle smile, the ponies going about their day, my sister was there beside me. We watched day after day.
“Luna do you hear what I hear?” I asked with little to no fear. “Tis quite an odd thing to occur. Hearing voices is quite absurd.”
She said no words, she said nothing. And so I stood there simply waiting. “Dost thou have any words to say? Any words at all to my dismay?”
I feared losing my sanity. Ideas and thoughts moving frantically. I sought her counsel, I sought her wisdom. I plead and I begged, but she gave me none. Again and again in the back in my mind, it said-it said, wake up. Oh sister of mind please wake up for the world has turned a muck.
What an odd little voice, it gave one choice. Wake up it says, wake up . But I’ve told thee already that I’m already awake and that I’m already up. And I have a sister, and she’s right here. Expressionless as can be. Now off with you little voice, and begone with thee.
“Sweet Luna, this voice shan't leave me alone. It toys, it taunts, it tortures me, please help me O’ please help me! Tell me how, oh tell me how, how do I escape this horrid tone?!”
I look to her and plead and plead, her face expressionless as can be…
[Everfree, 5 March 5 AD; 3:23 PM]
Celestia awoke to the pleas of her sister and the cackling madness that was Veigar. Looking over to the villain, all she saw was the black silhouette of him on a bright white canvas. She then looked to her sister who was sobbing, “Sister… please… please wake up. He’s destroying everything. I’m sorry… I’m sorry… I’m sorry. I couldn’t stop him. I wasn’t strong enough. If only I was stronger… If only I-”
“Luna…” Celestia interrupted her sister’s sorrows. “Tis alright sister of mine… Tis fine.”
“Sister!” Luna exclaimed in surprise, immediately embracing her sister. Reality struck her once more, “B-but the kingdom is in tatters. We can not win against him. You’re incapable of fighting, and... I… I am too weak. I tried again and again, but I couldn’t. I just couldn’t. And he continues to mock us unscathed,” tears once again fell upon the princess’s cheeks.
“Hush Lulu,” Celestia said to comfort her dear sister. “Go to the elements, and return with them. I shall distract him should he notice thy disappearance. When thou returns, we shall act feeble -meek even. And while his guard is down, we shall strike.
The plan is simple, straightforward, and effective. Veigar is easily irritable, so distracting should be easy. He is arrogant and that shall be his hubris. He belittles us and raises himself upon a pedestal. A pedestal far too tall and easy to tip.”
Celestia watched Luna sneak away in the corner of her eye. She gave her final prayers, and would let the plan fall in place. Veigar was far too distracted by the mayhem he was causing, and it would be a waste to bring him out of his stupor. The longer he did not know of Luna’s disappearance, the better it was for Luna to return unnoticed.
Now fully aware, Celestia devoted more of her energy on studying the creature. More specifically, its magical energy. The moment she delve into it, it felt wrong. This magic! It- it’s unnatural! No other creature has this form of magic, tis more chaotic and destructive than Discord… Wait… wait...T-that bright light… It can’t be. It can’t be!
“No! The kingdom!” Celestia clamped down her jaw the moment she uttered her last word. A bead of cold sweat ran down her brow to below her chin, ready to fall. Her eyes in shock to both what she had done, and the calamity before her.
Veigar’s head quickly snapped back to Celestia, his eyes were turned white like the carnage behind him. A glowing white smile, accessorized with black jagged teeth was plastered across the silhouette’s face, “So glad for you to join… us… What happened to little Luna? Did she run off and abandon you? I wouldn’t be surprised.”
“Luna would never do such a thing! A creature such as thyself could never bring down the might of Equestria!” Celestia defiantly brought her forelegs up to lift herself. Her gaze stern and unyielding.
“Have you not seen what your kingdom is becoming?” Veigar said, mocking her incapability to defend her kingdom. “Slowly, and painfully every creature and every plant will be decimated. Your magic shall be obliterated. This land will become desolate. And the two of you and this wretched castle will be the grand finale!” Veigar was once again cackling at the beaten down princess.
“Thou shan’t get away with this!”
“Such a cliché,” he chuckled. “I shall and I will. You can’t stop me, your sister can’t stop me, and both of you combined won’t stop me. It’ll take a magic macguffin to do so. And as wonderful and as nice as that would be, this is reality! Miracles do not happen.”
Veigar approached the grounded princess, who did not move a muscle. “Oh, and look at you. Look at you!,” with his gloved hand he grabbed the lower jaw of Celestia. “Such a divine specimen. A one in a lifetime opportunity!,” He forcefully turned her head side to side, examining her.
Celestia said nothing, accepting the minute abuse. “Not going to say a word? No worries, it’s exactly what I want. I’ve never been into the biological sciences, but these wonderful creatures are worth investigating. Perhaps I shall learn how to harness your so called magic,” He gave a smirk.
“And as for you... and little Miss Shadows over there!” With his magic he pulled Luna out from dark hall the led into the castle. And grounding her alongside her sister.
“Luna!” Celestia yelled as she heard her sister scream in surprise.
“I have plans. Such grand plans! You see, before all of this I had a very decent life. I woke up, worked, ate food, did miscellaneous activities, draw blueprints, attempt to prove my hypotheses. I was content. But now?” Veigar turned around and admired the view.
Entropy, the spell he had created, had ceased. In its wake was a deserted wasteland. The old buildings were torn asunder. The ravine had stretched further than ever. All living things were burnt to ash and faded into the wind. The scant few remnants conglomerated around the castle that was untouched.
“I’m ecstatic! A new world! New things! New laws! New everything! Such a joy for me to study such things. Granted, tearing this place down was not the greatest idea, but nevertheless there is more out there.” Veigar simply did not want to rule the world, he wanted to study it. He wanted to know everything he could possibly acquire from it. He wanted to use it for his own goals.
Celestia continued to listen to Veigar’s rant, the more she listened the more she was troubled. This is not the most conventional reason of conquering us. What gain would he have of studying and conquering us. What is he not explaining to us? Why must he study us?
“Why?” interrupted Veigar’s rant. “Why must thou do this to us, our kingdom?!” Celestia turned her head to Luna who was shaking in anger. “We have done nothing wrong! It twas thou who provoked us!”
“I need no reason.”
“What?”
“I said I need no reason you idiot. You are speaking with a creature from another world, who has lost all comfort, and who is completely insane! Or has that not crossed your mind!”
All went silent after that. Veigar continued to bask in his destruction, while the two princesses could only stare at him after what he had just said. Could they have been in the wrong since the beginning? Of course not, he was out right evil, and after what he did. The thought is inexcusable.
Luna turned over to Celestia, giving her a nod. The time was ripe and this was likely their only chance to stop him. He knew not of the Elements of Harmony. And from what they understood of him, Veigar knew nothing of this world. Looking back over to him, they saw that he held out some sort of metal tablet, distracted from them. It was now or never for the two princesses. It was then that the Elements of Magic, Loyalty, and Kindness encircled Celestia. The Elements of Honesty, Generosity, and Laughter surrounded Luna. Soon the Elements of Harmony would be ready to strike at the monster.
Unaware of the events transpiring behind him, Veigar continued to scroll through the pages of his tablets. Passing blueprint after blueprint with the occasional research paper in between, “Thank goodness this still works, I would have to start from scratch if it didn’t.”
“Now as for you two,” Veigar declared as he turned around only to drop his tablet as a pastel rainbow shot from two floating princesses, engulfing his entire persona. Unlike Celestia’s Celestial Ray of Death, as he called it, this stung him, burned him, as well as send shivers up his spine. The few moments he was caught in that rainbow felt like several excruciating hours of torture. Only to leave him the feeling of nothing.
The two princesses collapsed onto the dirt below. Their limbs tired and weak, their magic reserves nearly depleted, their mental fortitude was dwindling. But it was finally over. Judging by the Entropy, Tirek was destroyed. And looking at Veigar, he was cast in stone save for his odd metallic device and his scepter. The ground below his statue self gave out causing him to fall to fall to the ground below.
The sisters’ victory against Veigar was no victory at all. He had succeeded in destroying their kingdom. The haven they sought to create for ponykind after the Dark Winter, was gone. Turned to dust in a matter of minutes.
How shall we fix this mess? Celestia thought. We’ve been through so much already, I- I can just barely take this… I said that we would protect them, give them a home, care for them. Tis not fair, we have been good to this world yet it throws one thing after another at us. Again and again. Just why?
Tears began to form as she questioned all the things that caused them and their subjects such pain. But before she could let them fall, sobs cried out as Luna furiously yelled out to the sky.
“Why?! Why?! He have done nothing to incur thy wrath fate! Nothing! So why?! Why dost thou continue you to toy with us?! One after another! These are not trials! These are thy instruments of torture! We desire what’s best for the world of Equus! We seek not to destroy it! So why?! Why?! Why? Why…” Luna’s yelling fell to a whisper as she cried. Tears furiously falling across her cheeks. Her sniffling was quick paced as she continued to mouth the question, “Why?”
“Luna…” Celestia wanted to comfort her sister, but couldn’t find the words to say. No words of triumph, condolence, or empathy would stir her sister from her state. Staring at her sister, her own tears began to stream out. This was worse than Discord, Sombra, and the Windigos combined. This one creature had destroyed their kingdom in mere minutes, and they could do nothing to stop him before he used his spell.
“If only I was stronger,” this brought Celestia out of her thought. Instead of muttering why, she was now mutter this. “If only I was stronger I could have killed him sooner, I could have prevented this all from happening. If I was less arrogant and foolish, this would have never of happened,” Luna continued to mutter this as she cried.
“Luna, please do not say that… Thou had given all your effort to stopping him and we did do it. Thou art strong, we’re strong. We defeated him Luna, we defeated him.”
“Then what is this? A victory! Our city, our capital is in ruins! The ponies are gone, killed, fled! They shan’t ever want to see us again! We failed them! We could not protect them! We could not do it because we were not strong enough! You were not strong enough! I… was not strong enough…” With bloodshot eyes, and tears running down her cheeks, Luna flew off from the castle.
“Luna! Luna!” Celestia tried to go after her sister, but her wings were unable get her off the ground. Leaving her tumbling to the ground. “Luna… please… don’t…” The last she saw of her sister was her flying away as her vision turned black.
[Everfree, 6 March 5 AD; 12:04 PM]
Luna flew and flew, each push with her wings brought her further and further away from the catastrophe that was Everfree. It was when she had finally reached just past the decimated grounds that her wings gave out, leaving her to fall into the forest below.
She opened her tear encrusted eyes, to the sight of foliage surrounding her. “Where are we? I was flying an then…”
“Poor, poor, poor silly Luna. Art thou alright? Thy plummet from the night sky was quite something to behold. Twas like watching a falling star.”
“Where art thou! Show thyself!” Luna demanded as she painfully brought herself up.
“We’ve been over this before Luna. I am something thou can not see, until thou accepts the truth that is.”
“And what truth is that.”
“The fact that thou art weak. Thou claims to be strong and continues to do so. Thou wishes to be stronger. But in order for that to happen, thou must already be strong,” the voice giggled at Luna.
“Thou speak'st false words! Thy tongue is twisted with lies!”
“No, I speak the cold, hard truth. The truth that thou wishes to deny, and shrouds with lies. But I can show you the truth, and guide thee to thy true wish: power.”
Sweat was beginning to form as Luna continued to listen to the voice. Tis she right? Am I lying to mineself?
“Very well. What is thy proposition?” Luna said as she stood firm.
“Tis quite simple instructions. Just relax and listen to mine voice guide you. Keep your mind and heart open. Tear down those walls, and I can help thee. And thy destiny will be changed and set in stone.”

Chapter VI: Good Intentions and Severe Consequences
[Canterlot, May 25, 1012 AD; 6:00 PM]
The evening bell tolled throughout Canterlot signaling the beginning of dusk. The Day Court had finished to be followed by the Night Court soon after. The group of ponies ranging from press to politicians made their way out of the throne room. From Celestia’s perch upon the throne, she saw the sea of ponies bottleneck themselves at the rooms entrance. Deep within the mob, she saw a tall white figure parting the ponies as it approached her. Reaching the rooms entrance, the guards took form.
“Halt! The day court has ended and the Princess shall not be taking anymore hearings. You may comeback later to speak with Princess Luna instead,” the guard stated at the tall white figure. Whom he had just noticed had a large white blanket over it.
“I come all this way! All this way! From the Everfree and this is the reception I get? Wow,” A mare with an irritated voice said behind the creature. “Do you know who I am?” the pony asked whilst making her way around the object.
“No,” the guard said blandly.
“You should read more often then,” turning away from the guard, she faced the Princess. “Good evening your majesty, I brought have brought it as you requested,” bowing to Celestia as she made her announcement.
Celestia held a smile to her face, the mare before her had a deep orange coat and a mane and tail that were black and had a dark gray stripe. “At ease Hardline, this is Daring Do. I asked her to bring something very… important to me. Her deadlines are not the sharpest so I have her do her best to make it here after court.”
“Aye, your majesty,” he said as he returned to his position by the door.
The sea of ponies had gone and the guards closed the door leaving Daring as the last pony to be heard. Celestia turned to face Daring and to give her full attention to the mare, “Thank you again Daring for all that you’ve done, if you wouldn’t mind could you tell where you found this?”
Before raising her head she stuck her tongue out at Hardline, who payed no mind, “Well you see Princess, when you requested this task I had one of my associates tip off Ahuizotl who led me in the general direction of this thing,” she said pointing at the object. “It took longer than I had expected, I mean afterall it's been three months. But the oddest thing kept happening, the Everfree itself kept moving the damn thing all over the place. Hiding here and there when I took my eyes off of it. So when I had finally caught it for the thirty-eighth time, I kept pushing it until I broke through the forest, where I was met with Ahuizotl. After this and that and a couple of hours, I made way for Canterlot. Next thing I know there’s this “Grand Railway Theft” and I have to get it again… This was all in the first month by the way,” the tone of Daring was wearing thin as the recollected the previous months.
Noticing her subject’s dismay, Celestia spoke up, “Daring please do tell the rest in a report, and as for payment, please visit the treasury. I’ll have word sent to Penny and you’ll receive your paycheck, I’m also sure we can add a little extra for all the trouble. Thank you again Daring Do, may Harmony guide your way,” Celestia ended her thank you with a smile.
“And to you as well your majesty. And for a report, I believe I sent Princess Twilight my latest book. I finished it a week ago as I made my way over here,” with a satisfied smile upon Daring’s face, she made her way out to receive her pay all the while giving the guard who halted her smug look.
With Daring gone Celestia’s face hardened to stone as she stared at the object before her. After all these years I finally have you, she thought as memory resurfaced. Burning buildings here and there, corpses were scarce, but what really stood out was the emptiness of the whole scene. Celestia quickly pushed those memories back to the back of her mind, I need to focus at the matter at hoof, Luna will want to know as well.
With the thought finished, Celestia sent her sister a message via a link they shared. Nearly as soon as she sent it, her sister teleported to the throne room. She appeared next to the throne, face just as hardened as her sister. “Good evening Tia, I hope Court wasn’t too much of a hassle.”
Celestia’s face softened at her sister’s words, Even despite being in this things presence, it’s good that she’s not overcome with an immediate rage. Afterall, if it wasn’t for it, she wouldn’t have resorted to becoming Nightmare Moon. “The Court was the same as it always is unfortunately, but I’m glad we can finally put this nightmare to rest.”
“Indeed,” Luna kept her eyes locked upon the blanket covered object. “I would recommend we keep it covered; after all, I would hate for my anger to tear it apart,” a hint of sarcasm and anger resonated within Luna’s voice as she spoke.
“Yes, it’d be… unfortunate wouldn’t it. I’d hate to ruin Twilight’s day off tomorrow, but we do need to show her the Grand Archive,” Celestia voiced with a tinge of guilt.
“It’s only fair we show it to her, she’s a Princess of Equestria. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind, sister. She has been begging to see it ever since we mentioned it,” Luna shared as she broke her eye contact with it to face her sister.
“I know. We only go in there if we must. If we kept walking in and out, then at some point it would be found out. The objects in there are too dangerous for anything to get their grasps on,” she said as she began writing a letter to Twilight.
“Do you think it wise to send it down there? After all, the contents of that room are… as you put it when you informed me of it “a threat to the national security of the entirety of Equs? After what happened with Discord those years ago, when he first broke free, do you think it could happen with it?”
Celestia listened and thought about Luna’s concerns, finishing up her letter and sending it off to Spike to deliver to Twilight later, she answered, “It’s a possibility that I’ve accounted for. He would need for some kind of catalyst to break out. As far as we know it could range from anywhere between events to objects.”
“I’ll have the guards place this in a safe location until tomorrow, until then relax sister. This matter shall and will be dealt swiftly,” Luna assured.
“Thank you Luna, I hope the Night Court is bearable. Good night,” Celestia gave her sister a final wave with a hoof and teleported off to take a break.
“Actually, it’s still technically evening,” Luna corrected despite her sister being off. “Knowing her she’s probably teleported right to the kitchen.”
Luna walked down the steps that lead to the throne, he body trembling as she approached the figure before her. Despite all the rage she held, fear came to dominate her emotions. She knew what it could do, knew of its power, knew of its character. Everything told her to flee, she wanted to. Thoughts of hypothetical situations kept coming up, each dark and gruesome. Tears formed, but did not fall as each thought berated her mind. Each of her steps feeling heavier as she continued forward. Before she even knew it she was right in front of it. Emotions battling in her head, reaching her emotional capacity she yelled tearing off the blanket that hid the object.
The revealed figure stood in triumphant pose, it face carried a sense of superiority as it stood looking down upon her. The figure itself was short, immensely short, but the podium it stood on made it look like a giant looking down upon Luna. The figure’s two arms were positioned in a way where it’s right was holding something to its chest, and the other should be holding some sort of stick.
More thoughts arose in Luna’s head as she stared at the figure, if she had only listened to her own recommendation, this would never have happened. Before the first tear could fall she spoke, “Guards! Get this thing out of my sight. Put it somewhere where no one would find it. I want it on high security, protect it from anything. All of you go,” with what seemed to be an oddly worded command said and done the guards hurried to fulfill the Princess’s request.
With the guards gone, the room empty of any other ponies but the Princess, Luna collapsed to the floor as tears streamed down her cheeks. The weight of emotions had overcome her, and the memories and thoughts consumed her. “B-Because of you… I-I did such unspeakable, horrible things. Because of you… I-I turned into, into h-her…” Luna continued to sob and mutter incoherent sentences until she finally passed out.
[Ponyville, 26 May 1012; 8:30 AM]
Rays of light shone through the curtains of Twilight’s chambers and onto the sheets that lay over her. Speckles of dust would slowly fall as the ray of light slowly moved, minute by minute, across the bed. The flight of a bird, just for a fraction of a second, blocked the sun and rendered the room dark. Regardless, the ray continued its way until reaching the princess’s eyes where she opened them revealing-
“Ahh! It burns!” Twilight yelled as she quickly turned away from the light pulling her blankets over her. “Ugh… This is what I get for being lazy and not closing the curtains fully,” she mumbled beneath the sheets.
Taking a few seconds to recompose herself beneath the sanctuary of her blanket, and blink away the incessant green hue that dominated a portion of her sight. She stood up out of her bed, pausing to allow her blood to flow properly. Lastly, she leaned down while prostrating her wings to give her body a good stretch, holding is for a couple seconds allowing her muscles to limber up.
“Mmm… Alrighty then,” she yawned as she levitated her trusty clipboard towards her. “Let’s see what we have in store for today,” she took a quick glance and soon had a large grin plastered across her face.
Reorganize and Inventory the Archive, it said. Just that.
After months of diplomacy, politics, hearings, and the occasional monster, the list goes on and on. She finally had some time to do something relaxing, and most likely some time for herself. Her archive was no more than a couple thousands of books, far smaller than the Canterlot Archive, and even smaller than the Grand Archives that lay beneath the mountain. It should take a mere five hours at most, “I can’t wait to start. It’s been a long while since I’ve gotten to reorganize that place, and it's starting to become a mess. It must be so dusty in there, and I’m pretty sure I left a book on a table.”
Rather than teleport immediately to the Archive, Twilight decided to walk the distance. It's been awhile since I last roamed these halls, with a free day I might as well, she thought as a smile formed upon her face. Before leaving her room, Twilight looked to her left towards the bathroom. Hmm… I could take a bath, but that would be for naught as I will be dusting the Archive. I could brush my teeth now though. But I’ll come back to take the shower… Twilight debated with herself, determining what was most efficient and ceded to doing it later. With the decision made she opened her chamber doors, the guards at the side of it shifting from rest to attention, and took her first step into enjoying a free day.
The trip to the Archive was short and brisk after all it was down the hall, followed by a left and there it was. Teleporting would have been a silly thing since she was so close. Approaching the doors to the Archive, it opened without assistance of anypony. Beyond the threshold of the frame was the Archive. Rows of shelves greeted her as she made her way through, the sun’s rays passing through the skylight and illuminating her path. Dark contrasting shadows formed behind and under the shelves creating a surreal atmosphere. As she expected, small specks of dust fell covering everything from the shelves to the floor. At the middle of the Archive was a round table illuminated by the skylight dome above it. And there, upon the table was a single book attracting all the attention in the room as it sat there like a holy relic. With her eyes fixed upon she treaded the floor, passing shelf after shelf until finally coming before it. “So that’s where my Daring Do book was. I was looking everywhere for this. I was sure I packed it in before I made my way to Canterlot for the meeting last week. Huh… Weird,” Twilight calmly stated as she levitated the book towards her. She quickly dusted it off via magic and teleported it to her room. I need to start reading that, A.K. Yearling gave me that a week ago! Signed obviously. I really wanted to know what her latest adventure was… Oh we-
“Twilight!”
Twilight’s thoughts were quickly cut off by a voice behind her, “I’ve been looking everywhere for you!”
Twilight quickly turned around to face a short, green a purple dragon, “Oh, Spike! What’s up? And what do you mean you’ve ‘been looking everywhere for’ me? I woke up not many minutes ago, maybe twenty.”
“Well… uh… to be honest with you,” he shifted under her eye. “Well you see… I kinda, maybe, sorta, forgot to give you this. Or at the very least leave it in your room, on top of your clipboard,” Spike nervously said handing over a scroll to Twilight.
“Well that’s uncharacteristic for you Spike, your usually always on top of things like this,” Twilight said in slight surprise as she examined the scroll. It was a normal scroll, but that wasn’t her interest, it was the seal that held it shut. She turned it around in her magic, her eyes widening the moment she saw the seal. The seal itself was a simple brass medal with a red strap attached. On the medal itself was an insignia of a sun with two blades crossing to form an “X” and a shield on top of that. The simple fact that this was from the Princess made it important enough, but the addition of the swords and shield made it even more so.
Spike stood in slight awe as he saw Twilight’s disposition shift from relaxed to alert, “So… What’s it say?” He stood there waiting for Twilight to answer, but no answer came only silence. “Twilight? Um… Everything okay? Twilight? Twi? Yo, Twil-”
Spike’s concerned voice was interrupted by a loud groan from Twilight, followed by a determined expression, “Alright… Remember Twilight, national security comes first. Well that and the fact I get to see the Royal Archive after all this time,” she said giving a slight squeal at the thought of entering the Archive. “Spike.”
The dragon jumped at Twilight’s word,” Uh, Yea!?”
“Could you please have my normal Canterlot suitcase prepared. Oh! And don’t forget to put the new Daring Do book in there too. It’s in my room,” With her request made she teleported off.
“Well here we go again… So much for a day off I guess. Now I wish I forgot that I forgot to give her the letter,” Spike grumbled as he made his way out of Archive.
[Canterlot, 26 May, 1012; 12:13 PM]
The doors to the throne opened as Twilight walked through the entrance. Sitting upon the throne was Celestia, with Luna standing to her right. To the right of the room, was an object covered by a white blanket. “Good afternoon Princesses,” Twilight said giving a slight bow.
“As to you Twilight,” Celestia spoke as she smiled upon her former student. “I’m sure you understand the severity of our current situation.”
“Yes, I saw the insignia on the seal, but the message was somewhat vague. What’s going on Celestia? What’s so dangerous to threaten the entirety of the world, but hasn’t done a thing.”
“The thing in question,” Luna said as she walked down the steps toward the object covered by a blanket, “Is this statue.” Casting a simple levitation spell, Luna pulled the blanket off the statue.
Twilight’s eyes widened at the sight of the statue, the creature was out of this world resembling nothing she had seen before. “What is that?” she asked with a hint of caution. How long has it been cast in stone?”
“A little over a thousand years since we used the elements on him,” Celestia said solemnly.
“What did it do?”
“Before Canterlot, was the city Everfree, the first capital of Equestria. When we first met it defeated myself and Luna. The next time we saw it was when Tirek had thrown him at the city. Luna and I had split up to defeat the both of them, but both of us had failed. That was when, with a single spell, he defeated Tirek and destroyed the entire city save for the castle. What lays today is the aftermath.”
“The Everfree Forest. So that’s what you meant by ‘Entropy’ every single time I had asked about it. That spell must require immense power to cause such devastation,” the gears in Twilight’s mind turned as she thought about the magnitude of such a spell and how much magic it would require. “Wait a minute, for such a spell to occur, at least to my knowledge, it would require the energy from an entire ley line to power it!” Twilight’s head quickly turned toward the statue, taking a slight step back from it. That’s impossible. There’s no sign of a ley line ever running through the Everfree. That’s what made its existence such a mystery.
“We came around the same conclusion when we theorized how it had made the spell. What we had found out is that it doesn’t use the same magic as we do. It pulls from something else, and we don’t know what that something else is,” Luna said.
“A new form of magic... “ Twilight’s eyes carried a sense of curiosity as she stared at the statue. Turning away to face Celestia, “Does it have a name? We keep calling it, ‘it’ and it's starting to get a bit bothersome.”
“Its name is Veigar. And it shall be sent to the Royal Archive to be locked away,” Celestia stepped down from the throne and down the stairs. She turned to face them again and launched a beam of dark magic at the throne. A bright flash enveloped the room, and before them was a portal.
“This is the entrance to the Archive Twilight. We only go in there if we must hide something from the world. Nothing more, nothing less ,” Celestia said, emphasizing the last sentence. Luna began levitating the statue through the portal, the three of them following after.
What met them was a well-lit white hallway with pedestals throughout holding different objects on them. Each one had a name, but no description. “We have sworn to never use any of the objects that lay in here, and never take anything regardless if we misinterpreted its abilities,” Luna calmly said as they continued through, statue in tow.
It wasn’t long before the reached the end of the hallway though, there were few items most of them being jewels. Looking to her right she saw, “Hey, that’s Sombra’s horn,” Twilight said in surprise. Looking next to it, “Is that his crown too?”
“After the attack on the Crystal Empire, we discovered that before he perished he casted a spell that infused his crown with a massive amount of dark magic. His horn on the other hoof, casted a spell that would have him be revived with the Empire,” Celestia answered as they continued on through.
It didn’t take long before they reached the end of the hall where a double door stood. Setting the statue down, Luna began casting a spell followed by Celestia as Twilight stood and watched. The two alicorns magic enveloped the doors, and a large click could be heard before it opened. Inside was a room filled with a few more statues, all of which were victims to the Elements of Harmony.
“Wow,” Twilight said in awe. “I would have never guessed that this many fell to the Elements. Is, is the Starswirl the Bearded?! What on Equus is he doing here?!” the national icon of magic surprised Twilight. Her idol, petrified. It wasn’t like a statue you would see at Celestia’s school, or the Academy of Magic, it was too real.
“To answer your question Twilight, Veigar,” Celestia answered, a twinge of guilt in her voice.
“What? But you said he’s been petrified for a thousand years? Did he somehow escape?”
“No, Twilight,” Luna said as she put the statue down. She then turned to the pedestal to the left of Veigar. “This staff turned him into a crazed unicorn bent on transforming the world to the epitome of magic. He became corrupt because of it, and we were forced to depart with a dear friend.”
“So even after you two defeated him all those years ago, he still caused harm.”
“More than you can imagine Twilight... “ Luna’s head sulked as she recalled her past. “If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have felt so powerless all those years ago. I wouldn’t have turned into Nightmare Moon.”
“I’m- I’m so sorry Luna…” Twilight said with splayed ears. “I can’t imagine what other evils he had committed.”
“He turned one of our greatest scientific mind into another crazy pony bent on changing the world… The pony was Gear Box,” Celestia added, her tone still filled with guilt.
“How did he become an enemy to Equestria?” Twilight asked shocked by the idea that Gear Box, the most influential engineer and scientist, turned evil.
“The object on the right of Veigar lead him down the wrong path,” Luna pointed out.
“What is it?” Twilight asked as she approached the item in question.
“We simply call it the Tome of Veigar. In truth we have no idea what it is, but we do know that it holds inventions of questionable morals and ethics. Countless amount of, as Gear Box coined, blueprints.”
Out of excitement and curiosity, Twilight simply looked over the ‘tome’ as they called it. What she saw was a reflection over herself that mirrored her as she tilted her head. “This thing contains countless amount of information? To be honest that’s kind of hard to believe… I mean it's just so thin- Oh my gosh!” Twilight yelled as the the reflective surface changed from black to white in an instance while at the same time making a buzzing sound. “What did it just do?! What did I just do?!”
There was no time for answers as the tome began emitting sound that slowly grew louder and louder, flooding the room with appeared to be ominous music. Soon after the blue front began changing colors rapidly, following the colors of the rainbow until it became so fast that all that it emitted was white light. The gem that was held on Veigar’s staff also began to glow before it began to shake on its rest. Soon to the dread of the three princesses in the room, the sound of cracks began to silence the music from the tomb.
With fear coursing through her, Celestia said, “No… Not again.”
Author's Note
I know, I know... It’s been a real long while since the last update, but it’s here... Right? We good? I’ve been busy with school, family, friends, fixing up the house, and the list goes on and on. Luckily, it is now summer and I have a lot of time to do this... Wow... I need a proper social life if this is what I do. Regardless, I hope you enjoy this new chapter. It took me a while to write because I lost my notes on how the story progresses, but oh well. C’est Vie.

Chatpter VII: Freedom from Purgatory
Chapter VII: Freedom from Purgatory
[Somewhere, Somewhen]
So, here I am. I don’t know where I am, but I’m here. Somewhere. I am definitely somewhere. I just don’t know where. Because I’m somewhere, allow me to describe it.
It’s white.
It’s fucking white.
All of it. Just white.
There’s no landmark for miles. There’s no horizon. It’s like being in one of those asylum rooms with the white walls, minus the walls. Similar to being in space, there’s no real sense of direction. There’s no real sense of gravity pulling you, but for some reason there’s a floor wherever you step. I tested this by simply putting my hat down, faced away, and walked. After a couple of steps I turn around, and next thing I know it's not their. So, in surprise I look around, and guess what.
It’s above me.
It wasn’t too far away that I couldn’t jump for it, but there it “stood” on a different level. Obviously defying my notion of physics, but what hasn’t. I had my sense of reality shook by talking horses. I used abilities that I can not fathom its origin. I turned into a fictional being. I turned into a fucking midget.
I understand saying such things with such a tone is rude, but my life has been ruined. Albeit wasn’t much. Wake up, morning routine, go to work, go to my friend’s studio, flirt with said friend, go home, dinner, sleep, and repeat. That was generally it. The one time I had to diverge from the norm, this happens.
I’m not religious, but this place seems to resemble some notions or views of Purgatory. More specifically the kind in the movies. And after some thought it seems like the perfect torture method. It’s nothing like solitary confinement, but very similar. With solitary confinement, you know there’s an outside world. For some, you can cope with that. But here, in what I call Purgatory, this is the world.
The world is your cell.
There’s no home to go back to here. Just cell for miles and miles. With this solitude you are forced to live with your thoughts and your spoken word. There’s no escape, not from the cell, and not from your thoughts. This kind of scenario forces you to think and think and think. It’s up to you what you choose to think about, but at some point you’ll exhaust that thought and move on. You’ll keep thinking until you have thought of everything you can think of. You are only limited to your imagination.
Time passes and passes and passes and passes. Meanwhile, here I am serving my unknown time. The only pleasures I am allowed are my ability to think, and sleep. And so given my options, I spend most of my time thinking.
And so, I think and think and think and think and think and think.
By now I know not how much time has passed, all I know is that my notion of time continues to tread along. I’ve thought a lot about my predicament. Naturally, as anyone else I should be more panicked, or worried. But I am not. It is in my belief that as a highly intelligent animal, I should be able to adapt under any circumstances given enough will, and time.
Another large portion of my time thinking was spent on trying to figure out how to tie general relativity and quantum mechanics together. I believe I’m close, but there’s something missing. I don’t know what it is and I have nothing to test any of it. If I ever return to whatever world, Earth or that other one I will do so.
Magic. That’s all I can think of when I think of my abilities. Sure there’s all this science-talk in the name of my abilities, but how does it work. I’ll never know. I’m stuck in a white world where I can’t do anything. I have so my thoughts, but I am able to complete them. I return to my previous statement, this is the perfect torture. Stuck with my thoughts, I can’t do anything with them. They just sit there, idle. It’s driving me crazy in the metaphorical sense.
When I think about anything that happened before this, the distinct thing I remember was destruction. Not that I cared. Those two were asking for it. But it’s clear that I had allowed my emotions, and that other entity to take control to an extent. Even now I feel something, I don’t know what it is specifically, but I know it contributes to me not caring. As time passes I’ll continue to think upon the subject. Containing such a creature with such malice is urgent.
Again time passes and passes. I am starting to feel increasingly irritated by this place. It’s white for miles, it never ends. It’s possible that my sanity is beginning to slip, commendable as I am sure at the very least a year has passed, like the hell I know how much time has actually passed.
“That’s one thing I’m sure we can both agree on.”
“Oh great it’s you again.” I said with a tired face. “I thought I got rid of you.”
“Of course you hadn’t,” Veigar said as if obvious. “You know I’ve been here with you all this time. You just refused to hear me with all that sanity.”
“Ahh… So you thrive off one’s insanity do you? Interesting I guess. Or you could just be a voice in my head,” I said in reply.
“And why would I be just that? I’ve been here listening to you for the last 900 years. Do you have any idea how annoying you are?”
“You know, I could care less about your opinion. What interests me more, is how the fuck it's been 900 years?”
“Guess, I’m sure you’ll figure it out in a couple of minutes,” Veigar said slightly annoyed.
“Well I hadn’t actually thought of anything related to the subject. If anything we could be in a separate dimension, where time is different from our own, but we would have no way of telling time here. Another thing is that we could have had a spell casted on us, trapping us in a prison.”
“Close.”
“Really?” Veigar only answered me with a nod. “I swear if it’s like the Matrix where I’m immobilized in some way and I’m trapped in my mind or something, I’m going to be very disappointed,” I entertained the thought of a movie scenario happening to me. My life was pretty boring.
Rather than get an answer, I received silence. Fucking asshole straight up “left”. The silence could’ve meant I was right, but it could be him just being a dick. And once again silence reigned, and I returned to my thoughts.
It couldn’t have been true… It’s too movie-esque. Reality doesn’t work like that, and the universe is a fucking asshole. Only time, will know what happens next I guess. I just hope I get out of here soon because if that asshole thinks he’s going to take my body, he’s wrong.
[Royal Archive, May 25, 1012 AD; 6:58 PM]
The room shook with great intensity as Veigar’s statue cracked. Purple rays of light shot out from the cracks, casting the room in a purple hue. Statues and old relics fell from their pedestals, some broke with a crash while others fell with a thud.
The three princesses quickly backed away from Veigar as his natural colors began to come to view. Celestia’s expression carried guilt and vengeance. Luna’s was one of anger and determination. Twilight’s held shock and fear, but she still stood strong. Not knowing what to do, Twilight and Luna looked towards Celestia for some sort of guidance. Looking to the two younger princesses, “Luna! Twilight! Prepare offensive spells. If he tries anything, I’ll have a shield ready! We must stop him now!”
“Of course!” Twilight said as her horn began to glow. Soon several purple orbs of magic appeared, arcing over her head. Luna began charging a spell of her own, summoning several blades to dance across the room all of which were pointing a Veigar. While the two other princesses began casting spells, Celestia began casting defensive magic. Layers upon layers of contingencies would be made. Barrier for barriers, shields for shields. Anything that would stop what would be an oncoming storm.
As if the whole ordeal never happened, the room stopped shaking. The last few objects that fell, echoed across the room. The faint sound of shimmering magic resonated. Silence remained for what felt like an hour for Twilight. Sweat dripped from her brow as bits and pieces of stone fell from the ceiling. She turned to look at Celestia, face battle ready. Turning over to Luna, she saw her face full of determination. Her on the other hoof? She was afraid beyond a doubt. She trembled, and forced her resolve to form, only for it to falter. What on Equus is going on? I’ve never seen either of these two so… so battle ready. What are we dealing with?
Thoughts raced through her head, hypothetical situations that felt too real began to surface. All of these thoughts centered around one thing: defeat. Twilight’s came to an abrupt end when the stone that encompassed Veigar shattered in an instance followed a blinding flash of light.
When the light subsided and the three had regained their vision, their he stood with his staff in his left hand and the tablet. He held the pose he was frozen in for a few seconds, “Free at last,” he said as he reveled at the cool air. Turning his head towards the three princesses, “And it’s all thanks to you,” he said pointing at Celestia.
“You’re a monster! Now!” Celestia yelled and the two other princesses unleashed the spells they had channeled. From orbs and glowing runes on the walls, blasts of purple magic shot at Veigar. Luna’s swords dashed towards Veigar in an instance, while at the same time she unleashed a beam of her own magic. In an instance Veigar was covered by a cloud of smoke.
“I-is he-” Twilight’s question was quickly cut off.
“As cliche as this is, I have no time to deal with you fools. I have more important matters to attend to,” Veigar’s voice echoed throughout the hall and the young princess could only stare in shock.
How could he… he- he shouldn’t have been able to survive all that! Just what is he?!
Before the dust could settle, Veigar’s form emerged through the cloud. Not a single scratch was present. With each step, Veigar came closer and closer. All that stood between him and the outside world was the three alicorns. Despite Celestia’s best efforts at creating a barrier, Veigar simply walked by each one as if she made none at all. The traps she had made activated, but none phased him. I-I can’t possibly fail again, Raced through Celestia’s mind.
“Quickly! To the portal! I will do my best to stall him!” Celestia yelled turning to face Veigar.
“But Sister!” Luna yelled back.
“I said, go!”
“I will not sit idly by-”
“I’ll be fine. Protect Twilight! Protect Equestria if fail-”
“You won’t!” Rather than her sister, it was Twilight who interrupted, “We’ll be on the other side!”
“Thank you Twilight, Luna. Now, go,” Celestia felt a bit of relief as she saw Twilight gallop away, her sister, though reluctant spread her wings and flew off. “Now, it’s just us two.”
“As heartwarming and sweet as that was, I don’t have time to deal with you,” Veigar said. Irritation was beginning to form as he paused in front of Celestia.
“I won’t allow you to harm Equestria, not again. Never again!” with that said, Celestia launched herself with her wings straight at Veigar who stood calm. Flames erupted from Celestia, her body covered in fire. She pointed her horn to thrust into Veigar, her eyes watching for the slightest move. She got closer and closer, until she came to an abrupt stop.
“Event Horizon, how could you not have learned after more than a thousand years. Truly you are an idiot of a ruler,” Veigar simply walked around Celestia, continuing his way towards the white hallway.
“Release me!” Celestia roared, as her body was engulfed in even more flames.
Veigar made no acknowledgment of Celestia and continued walk further into the halls, as she continued to yell. 3… 2… and-
Veigar was rammed by Celestia, the fire burning him to a degree. “I will stop you!” yelled as she stopped, allowing the force to slam Veigar into the wall. I won’t let you destroy my country ever again!” Celestia released a beam of solar energy at Veigar who was beginning to stand up. The blast pushing him up against the wall. Veigar attempted to flash away, but before he could Celestia put more energy into her attack, crushing him further into the wall.
I will not be stopped now. I have too many ideas that must come to fruition.
Another voice resonated through his head, “If you wish to win! Accept my power! If you want your plans to succeed, than help me with mine! Listen to me Julian!”
You’re insane!
“And you have no sanity left!”
Never!
“I am not going to die, and unfortunately, neither are you!” Veigar forced his mind upon Julian. Shoving the young man into the realm of the subconscious. “Now it begins!”
Veigar summoned his power and enveloped himself in a magic barrier, denying Celestia’s attack. Realizing that Veigar had shielded himself, Celestia quickly shifted tactics and began casting another spell. Similar to Twilight’s, Celestia summoned hundreds of orbs of fire that shot balls of fire at Veigar. Casting another spell she summoned a greatsword and greatshield to her side. Both themed like the sun. Once again she charged at Veigar who was being barraged with fireballs.
“If it weren’t for the Rift subjugating me to use only four abilities, I would have crushed all my opponents, luckily I am free from the as well.”
As Celestia charged at him with sword and shield in magic, Veigar unleashed a spell he had forged long ago. Nearly an inch away was her blade from Veigar’s face, but before it could made contact she was blasted away by a ray of magic. Even now she had no idea, what it was made of. All she really knew was that it hurt.
Veigar was relentless with his attacks, following one after another. Each blast of his dark matter blasts tossed Celestia like a ragdoll. His Event Horizon freezing her, only to be blasted to another edge of it by his attacks. The fire that engulfed her was quickly fading along with her consciousness. I… failed… again.
Celestia fell to the ground, the last thing she saw was Veigar leaving through the room that was suppose to trap him. “No…”
[Canterlot, May 25, 1012 AD; 7:33 PM]
Twilight paced back and forth across the throne room, “Oh no… What if… No… That’s bad Twilight. Do not think about that. That’s bad, really bad,” Twilight kept muttering to herself, her mane and tail fraying.
“Keep calm Twilight, and relax. I have faith that my sister will be able to stall him in time. She simply needs to get out before he does. If anything it will take him a few days to escape, and by then we’ll have a plan. So rest assured,” Luna placed a hoof on Twilight’s shoulder.
“Thank you Luna. I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about. We’ll solve it like we always do… surely,” Twilight closed her eyes, allowing herself to take a couple of deep breaths. She would've finished her third one if the sounds of clapping hadn’t choked her.
“What a beautiful display,” Veigar said as he looked down upon them from the steps of the throne.
“Veigar! What have you done with our sister!?” Luna looked ready to dash forward. Prepared to strike at the vile creature.
“You should take your own advice, and relax,” Veigar laughed mockingly. “Your sister shall live for now. Attempt to stop me again, and I promise you shall see this country crumble, your citizens suffer, and your loved ones killed,” with his threat made Veigar tore a rip in reality and stepped through closing behind him and leaving the two alicorns before they could retort.
“We need to check on your sister!” quickly Twilight leapt into action. She ran pas Luna into the portal only to find her a battered mess. “Celestia!”
Luna would also make her way into the Archive, “Sister…” In both rage and sorrow Luna exasperated, “I should’ve been there. Just maybe I could do something. Maybe I could’ve made amends. Just maybe… I could’ve…”
“Could’ve failed!” a voice said.
No… It cannot be. No you aren’t real.
“If you say so…”
You’re not real. You’re not real. You’re no-
“Luna are you okay?” Luna attention swiftly shifted to Twilight, who stood before her.
“Yes. Indeed I am well Twilight. I must apologize, my mind shifted elsewhere,” Luna stated moving her focus from Twilight to Celestia. “How is Tia?”
“She’s fine, the alicorn regeneration has already begun to heal her wounds, but the taste in the air. It’s different. Nothing I’ve ever encountered,” Twilight pondered, her affinity for magic allowing her to detect the anomaly.
“That is Veigar’s magic. Unlike us he harnesses his source from forces we know not,” Luna tried to give Twilight some information on Veigar’s ability. But even after all these years they had never figured it out.
“Another source of magic… What is he?” Twilight could only stare at her former mentor with a twinge of guilt. If he could defeat Celestia so easily, than what about us. Are we all nothing to him…
“No… We’ll find a way. I know we will. We have too.” Twilight said, determination resonated with each word.
Author's Note
So here's another "fantastic" chapter by yours truly. That would be me if you didn't know... Anyway! Thank you for reading. Just so you know it's real fun balancing Veigar's bat-shit craziness with Julian's calm, rational side. Here and there we see the two combine. Truly, if these two cooperate, than we would have a truly superb villain. Veigar is powerful and all, but besides combat he's basically useless, and Julian is basically the opposite. Oh well, maybe I'm saying too much, or maybe I'm rambling like I do.
I'm coming up with another story by the by. It's another displaced, and I will keep it away from this story. Unlike this story, it'll definitely be quite the opposite. More lighthearted, I suppose. And trust me the fact that it's going to lighthearted is going to be ironic.
Regardless, thanks again for reading. As per the now usual, comment for any mistake, questions, or just because. Leave a like if you want. Leave a dislike if you want, just do me a favor and explain why. Otherwise have a wonderful whatever day or night.
