Crossover, Part 1
It was just a usual day for the Princess of Friendship. Piles of books scattered the room from where her research had taken priority over cleanliness. She was just beginning a book on the ancient history of Equestria for the sixteenth time when there a huge flash of light that momentarily blinded Twilight. As her slowly eyesight returned, she saw another Twilight in front of her. However, the new Twilight didn't seem like like she was actually there, rather she seemed to be some sort of hologram.
"Wait, will I mess with time travel again? You'd think that would have learned my lesson after what happened the last two times." The other Twilight soon smiled at Twilight.
"Ah, just the unicorn I was looking for." Upon closer inspection, the holographic Twilight came to a fairly shocking realisation, "Wait, are you an alicorn?"
Alicorn Twilight took a look at the holographic Twilight, and quickly noticed that she was a unicorn. "Okay, so not time travel, because I'd definitely remember if I saw myself as an alicorn when I was a unicorn."
"Ah, yes, let me introduce myself. I'm you, but from a alternate universe. I'm currently on a quest to recruit other versions of myself in order to defeat a villain that me and my friends were unable to defeat." The other Twilight said. Alicorn Twilight became almost ecstatic in an instant.
"Wow, I've been studying about the possibility of multiple universes, but to think it's actually true and an alternate version of me actually learned how to travel between them."
"Well, actually, I'm not in your universe. I'm still at mine. What you're seeing is just a projection of myself. And actually, you're the first other Twilight I've seen on my quest to recruit other me's and as such, the spell I'm using isn't perfected." The other Twilight explained.
"Oh, I see. You said earlier that you were unable to defeat a villain. If you don't mind, who is this villain?" Alicorn Twilight asked.
"I'll tell you the details later. For now, we have a more important matter at hand. I'm not sure how I could transport you to my universe and I was wondering if you would help me perfect the spell I'm using."
"But my schedules..."
"Please, Twilight, I need your help."
Alicorn Twilight sighed, mulling it over for a second before responding, "Alright then, I guess I can't refuse myself."
"Great! Now, here's a written version of the spell I'm using." The other Twilight levitated a scroll for Twilight to view.
"Hm... I don't completely understand the spell, but with some experiments, I should be able to perfect it. But it'll take time."
"That's fine. With the two of us, we should be able to get the spell perfected in a day or two!"
A few days later.
Rainbow Dash flew towards the hill next to Ponyville. Being Rainbow Dash, she didn't waste any moment and practiced flying while doing so. Soon, Rainbow Dash was at the hill, where she found her four friends. "Hey, guys! Sorry for being late, I was practicing my flying."
The four ponies were more than used to Rainbow being late but what they were more worried about, was Twilight. Nopony have seen her for the past few days and she didn't seem to have read the invitation letter they sent for the picnic they are having. "I don't know about all of ya, but Ah'm awfully worried for Twilight. Ah visited the castle before getting here, and Spike said that she has locked herself in her room, only coming out for food." Applejack said.
"AJ, relax. It's just typical Twi." Rainbow Dash proceeded to put on her shades. "Besides, if she has a problem, I'm sure she will come to us, like the last picnic we had. We just have to make sure we don't ignore her."
"I have to agree with Rainbow here, I mean, what could possibly go wr-" Rarity was stopped by Pinkie whose full body was vibrating.
"Pinkie Sense tingling! I can feel that there will be a doozy that will happen to Twilight!"
The others looked Pinkie with only a thought in mind: “oh, no.” The five ponies quickly raced towards the castle, with Rainbow Dash reaching there first. Being Rainbow Dash, she didn't let a door stop her, so she crashed through a window. "The door wasn't locked, y'know." Rainbow Dash heard Spike say, who had somehow already got a broom in hands. Rainbow Dash laughed awkwardly as the rest of the mane 6 arrived.
"Spike, where's Twilight?" Rainbow asked, Spike quickly pointed towards a door to the far left. "Thanks, Spike!"
"Wait, what happene-" Spike didn't get to finish his sentence as the ponies ran off. Spike sighed. "Well, cleaning glass shards it is."
Meanwhile, Twilight was just about ninety-nine percent done with the spell. "Y'know, this would have been so much quicker if got you someone else to help too."
"Well, I'm almost done anyway. I just a few more touches and.... Done!" The other Twilight seemed very, very happy.
"We can't waste any time. Quick, come over now. And take the scroll with you. My memory has been awful lately, so it's best that you bring that along." The other Twilight explained, almost as if she needed the scroll to live.
"Oh, okay then. Well, here goes nothing." Twilight's horn lit up and she started casting the spell.
"Twilight!" Twilight suddenly heard, before there was a few knocks on her door.
"Girls?" She stopped the spell and wanted to unlock the door but the other Twilight let out a scream. "What's wrong!?"
"I'm being attacked! Quick, I need your help!"
"I'm on my way!" Twilight quickly lit her horn up again and used the spell. In a few seconds, Twilight teleported away and the hologram was gone. The locked door was soon knocked down, with the mane 5 rushing in and searching frantically around for Twilight.
"She's gone!" Rarity shouted.
"I've got bad feeling about this." Rainbow Dash said.
When Twilight opened her eyes, she expected to see the Golden Oaks Library, just like the one the other Twilight have described. Instead, the library seemed to be in ruins, books where all over the place, and most of them were torn. "Twilight?" The alicorn said, hoping for a response.
Not hearing anything, Twilight went downstairs, and once again said, "Twilight?" No response. She checked the whole library, but the other Twilight was just not there and the whole library looked trashed. There was a rotting smell and the whole place just seemed moody. "Oh my Celestia. What happened? This is horrible." Not seeing any other choices, she headed out of the library, to find a Ponyville in utter destruction. Twilight took a few steps forwards, and found a skeleton in the distance.
Twilight was just about to scream, when she heard hoofsteps walking towards her. She saw six ponies' silhouette in the distance. When Twilight got a better look at the six ponies, she recognized them as her friends and herself, but there was bloodstains all around their coats, and their teeth were showing.
"Ever get the feeling you've been had?"
The two hurried along to the outskirts of the Changeling Kingdom, where Chrysalis’ kingdom was visible in the distance. Chrysalis was on constant look out as she flew in the air while Twilight was still recovering from the sights of her closest friends trying to consume her. That and the fact that one of her deadliest enemies was helping her. It seemed just like yesterday that Chrysalis flew away from Starlight’s attempt to redeem her.
“I can see that you’re still having trouble accepting all this.” Twilight’s ears perked up. “I was too when an army of zomponies started heading towards my castle. Thankfully we were able to defend ourselves with the information that they were coming thanks to our agents.”
“Chrysalis… What happened here? H-how did things here get so… nightmarish? And most importantly... how many ponies are infected?”
The changeling let out a sigh. “It’s a long story but I suppose we have all the time until we reach my castle. To answer your third question, almost everyone.” Chrysalis could practically hear Twilight’s heart breaking.
“I’ve seen the ponies try to run and hide but eventually, they all got infected. I’ve personally gotten our top scientists to look for a cure. The answer has always been, there is no cure. As for your first question… It’s…. My fault.” Twilight stopped flying forwards and hovered it place, and Chrysalis stopped too when she noticed Twilight stopping. “Like I said, it’s a long story. But trust me, I never intended something like this to happen. Come on, we’ve got to get a move on.” If Twilight wasn't doubtful to begin with she sure was now, however, Twilight didn't have much of a choice but to continue.
Soon, the two reached the castle. The place was heavily guarded, with changelings guarding every corner of the castle. “We’re thankful that we have my throne here. It soaks up magic so that only changeling magic works. Unfortunately that means that your magic will be useless as well.” Twilight’s face showed visible doubts but at the same time, Twilight knew how it would work in their favor. The two landed outside of the castle while two changelings stared and hissed at Twilight all while in their battle stand. “Stand down,” Chrysalis ordered. “This one isn't infected.”
The two changelings immediately stood aside for the two royalty to get in. Once inside, Twilight wasn’t surprised to see the randomly generated maze that is the Changelings’ home that she briefly saw back in her universe. However, what she surprised of, was the little amount of changelings she saw. It didn’t take a lot to infer that a lot of changelings too has perished in this place. Chrysalis walked forward, and gestured to Twilight to follow her.
Eventually, the two reached Chrysalis’ throne room and finally had a chance to rest. A changeling with slightly different wings soon came into the room. “Thorax?”
Meanwhile, back at Twilight’s castle, five ponies where looking around Twilight’s room for any clues as to where Twilight had gone to. Fluttershy was looking at the blackboard and read some parts of it.
“Let's see... there is an equation for teleportation to… Oh no.” Her eyes widened as she read the final equation.
“Girls, I-I think I found out where Twilight gone to…” The four mares crowded around Fluttershy to look at the board.
“Does that spell does what I think it does?” Rarity asked.
“Sugarcube, you’re the unicorn here. If anyone should know, it’s you.” Applejack replied. “Now what does it do?”
“It’s a teleportation spell. But it leads to other universes, I think.” Rainbow Dash explained.
“Oh, I see- wait a minute. How does everyone here except me know what this spell does?” Applejack questioned.
“I don't!” Pinkie blurted. “Well, that is until Dashie said it just now.”
“Alright, then how does Fluttershy and Dash knows? I mean, Rarity knows because she’s a unicorn but you two are pegasi!”
“Oh, uh, it was taught in Cloudsdale schools…” Fluttershy explained. Applejack stared at Fluttershy.
“Now, why does flight schools teach about magic?”
“Heck if I know but It’s pretty awesome though. It’s partly the reason why I didn't dropped out of flight school.” Rainbow Dash said.
“Well, fair enough.” Applejack now looked at Rarity. “Do you think you’re able to teleport all of us to where Twilight went?”
“Now, darling, wait just a minute. Twilight might just be testing out a new spell, and us going would just interrupt her. If she needed us, I’m sure she would have asked us to go along.”
“But what if Twilight is in danger? Now, I don’t know all that much about this universe thingy, but it certainly sounds like Twilight could be danger. I say we go.” Applejack argued.
“I’m with AJ.” If there’s any chance that Twi could be in danger in a foreign place, I’m going.” Rainbow said.
“I-I don’t know. Rarity might be right.” Fluttershy said. With two on each side, the four looked at Pinkie.
“Hm, to go or not to go… Of course I will! I’ll definitely meet some new pals there!” Pinkie grabbed her party cannon from nowhere and launched it, spreading confetti everywhere.
Rarity sighed. “Alright, so it is decided. My magic isn’t as good as Twilight’s but I think it’ll be enough. Hang on tight, everypony.” The white unicorn’s horn started to lit up as the group instinctively shut their eyes. In a flash of light, the whole group disappeared.
Applejack opened her eyes to see an horrible sight. She was surrounded by oranges! She fainted.
