Knock Knock Knock!
Fluttershy lightly rapped on the door of Rainbow Dash's cloud house. A few moments later, the door clicked and opened. Of course, a tired-looking Rainbow was standing there in the doorway.
"Oh! Hey Fluttershy!" Rainbow said, waking up from the tired state she was in. "What brings you here?"
"Uh-"
"Oh and, come in!" Rainbow added, ushering Fluttershy inside her house. Fluttershy walked in and followed Rainbow to one of her couches, and they both sat down. "So, do you want-"
"Well actually..." Fluttershy cut Rainbow off mid-sentence. "I came here to- um..."
"Um what?" Rainbow asked eagerly. "I mean, we could go on a fly, we could go eat at Sugarcube Corner, we could get-"
"Actually it's more of a... visit." Fluttershy again cut Rainbow off.
"Oh." Rainbow said. "Sorry, I've just been really bored lately, everyone being out of town and such... I really hoped somepony would just come and knock at my door, and I was actually just about to leave. I got zero sleep last night by the way, I also-" Rainbow stopped, smiling sheepishly. "Sorry. I guess it'll be nice just to have a visitor anyway..."
"That's fine." Fluttershy said. She hesitated. "So... I've been meaning to ask, but... are you seeing anypony?"
"Seeing?" Rainbow looked confused. "You mean like... dating, or something?"
"Uh, yea." Fluttershy said quietly.
"Well that's a strange topic... but no." Rainbow just realized that things got awkward fast. That wasn't the kind of question you just asked out of the blue to somepony, unless you actually cared. Why would Fluttershy care?
"No?" Fluttershy cocked her head.
"No, I'm not dating anypony." Rainbow said calmly. "Why?" She added slowly.
"Uh-"
"Let me guess... you were just wondering?" Rainbow laughed. "Ha! Yea, Twilight asked me the same thing the other day..."
"She- she did?" Fluttershy looked curious.
"Yea...... So why are you asking... really?" Rainbow knew. She was waiting for an answer.
"Uh-"
Rainbow quickly realized she needed to make it less awkward. "Yea... and I know it's not because "you've been in love with me since we first met" or whatever, because I mean that would just be totally creepy, right?" Rainbow laughed.
"Ummm..." Fluttershy squeaked. "Yea, it's totally not that... It's umm..."
Something weird started to happen. Rainbow's vision became distorted, and everything had a tint of magenta to it.
Fluttershy sat up. "Actually, yes Rainbow. It is because I love you with all my heart, and I will do
anything to just know what a kiss would feel like from you."
Rainbow leaned in for a kiss.
POP!
Rainbow sat up, slamming her head on a picture frame above her bed, sending it crashing down on top of her. The picture frame was one of herself in her Wonderbolts uniform.
"Ugh. This happens way too often." Rainbow groaned. "And I need to move that picture frame."
The dream she had was... common. Not that exact one but ones similar to it. Rainbow just didn't get it. However real the dreams had seemed at first, toward the end of the dream where the sappy part came in, everything became weird and, for some reason distinctively pink.
This proved Rainbow did not have feelings for Fluttershy in the slightest bit. Unless you counted them being great friends and all. And no, this isn't one of those sappy and weird coming out scenarios where you have feelings for your best friend.
Being "gay" wasn't that big of a thing in Ponyville. In fact, most ponies were what you could call "bi". They didn't care. There are so many mares in Equestria that commonly you'll find a mare dating a mare and hardly ever see a stallion-mare relationship. The few in Equestria that were straight had a hard time finding a partner.
It wasn't that Rainbow didn't want to accept she was attracted to Fluttershy, it was because she knew it would never happen. Fluttershy is as straight as mares can get.
