The Miracle That Is Myracle
Prologue
Load Full StoryDark, unforgiving eyes stared down at me. Their yellow color almost appeared to be glowing in the dim light, which only added to my uneasiness. I shrunk back, feeling Violet Melody, my aunt's, reassuring hoof on my shoulder.
The pony's terrifying gaze finally left my own and went back to Violet. "Violet, I can't just go taking in fillies for free. It costs time and money to run an orphanage, you know, and the only way I can continue in this business is if I get paid. Now if you don't mind, it's time for-"
"Ms. Firelock, I know you knew my sister. Do this for her," Violet cut her off.
I saw Ms. Firelock's eyes soften for a moment, just a split second, before reverting back to their original form. Her posture straightened as she said, eyeing the ruby pendant around Violet's neck, "Very well. But I would like that necklace as payment."
"But-" Violet swallowed. "All right. Thank you." She unbuckled it from the back and gave it to Ms. Firelock. I turned to meet my aunt's eyes. "Myracle? I'm going to miss you, Honey."
"Wha-what do you mean?" I held back tears. I knew what she meant.
"I wouldn't be doing this unless I really had to, you know that." Her voice shook and her eyes glistened. After a moment, she burst into tears and pulled me in for a hug.
"I dont want you to go, Vi."
"I don't want to either, Myracle."
