It was one of those nights in the summer where it wasn’t really hot but cool in the air. Afar from society, a family of three unicorns, soon to be four, is living in a small home somewhere in the woods. Noises can be heard inside the home as a mare writhing in pain as she was in the middle of her labor expecting a new foal. Her coat is amethyst while the color of her mane is magenta with a hint of light plum tint, and her eyes have a beautiful shade of pale green. Her name is Day Dream, but she wasn’t alone. Sitting beside her was her husband who had a dark slate blue coat with a lavender mane. The color of his eyes are royal blue which any mare could fall for since he is stunning, for a commoner. Fortune Hunter is his name! Despite he is not wealthy as his name was given. He began to brush Dreamer’s hair to comfort her and help her to forget the pain she’s in. It didn’t help much for Day Dream as she pants heavily and groans loudly as the contractions began to hit again. Hunter wished he could help her more rather than just stand next to her aimlessly comforting her. He gave her a small kiss on her head and nuzzles her softly.

“Nngh. I thought this would be easier the second time…?” As she groans in pain making her difficult to speak.

“Don’t worry hon, you’re doing great!” He replied as he encourages his wife. “It will all be over soon, I promise.”

“Sweet Celestia I hope so!” She breathes heavily as she closes her eyes to rest for a bit. “I forgot how painful it is to give birth, but I know it would all be worth it to see our new baby foal!” She gave a small smile and sighs. In her mind all she could think about is seeing the new bundle of joy. She can’t wait to meet her little foal and hold the little one in her hooves! Thinking about it made her forget the pain for a small time until the next contraction hits. Unknowingly their older son happened to be there. He was not much older than 3 years old. Curious and a bit worried for his mother the young colt asked his father.

“Daddy? Is mommy gonna be okay?” His father was surprised to hear his son’s voice since he is focused with his wife’s labor. Hunter smiled at his son and replied, “Of course, don’t worry Prophet, she is fine. I promise!” However this was easier said than done. It wasn’t long until Day Dream was hit with another contraction.

“Ah! AAAAAAAHHHHH!” She buries her face into his chest and ends up biting. Hunter winces in pain and closes his eyes, “Ow! FFFFFFFFF….. Prophet, go to your room. I’ll let you know when you can come out.” The young colt nods and heads to his room. Before he goes to his room his dad called “Oh and Prophet?” The young colt looked back to see what his father wanted. “Would you mind shutting the door?” Prophet once again nodded and closes the door behind him. Hunter then turns his attention to his wife who pretty much let go the biting. Hunter inspects himself to see the damage his wife made and sees a red mark on his chest. It wasn’t big but it did hurt nonetheless.

“Um, ouch!” He began to rubbing his chest. “That hurt!” He chuckles. However his wife is not amused.

She let out a cute snort and replied back, “Don’t even say the word hurt right now, you don't know what hurt is.” Of course Hunter smiles at his wife. “I’m sorry love.” She huffs. “You should be.”

“So grumpy. Not that it is different from any other day.” He chuckled.

“Are we really doing this right now?” Dreamer replies.

Hunter smiles, “Just trying to lighten up the mood. Plus you are very cute when you’re grumpy.”

She pouts. “Hmph I am anything but cute right now.”

“You’re right. You are very beautiful.”

“Please stop being so charming, it hurts.” Hunter leans in and snuggles closely to Day Dream and she couldn’t help but snuggle him back.

Meanwhile after closing the door to let his parents spend some time together before the new baby arrives, Prophet is in his room thinking about the whole thing.

“Wow! I can't believe that I'm having a baby brother! Or a baby sister! I wonder what he or she would look like.” Just thinking about it made him feel more curious and excited to meet the new born. Of course Prophet knew this may take a while for the to baby arrive so he laid on his bed. It was one of those moments that he’ll have to wait patiently for something and patience was never Prophet’s strong suit. “I wish the baby would come sooner.” He sighs and decided to take a short nap.

He slowly opens his eyes and is surprised upon waking! He observes his surroundings as there were trees everywhere. Prophet knew this was the forest since he already knows he and his family live in the forest. He heads for home to see his parents and the newborn, but to his surprise he sees the house old and in ruin. He quickly gallops inside to see his parents. “Mommy?! Daddy?!” He yelled but no response. He frantically begins searching the old home! He went to his parents’ room but saw nothing, it was dusty and broken down inside. He then went to his room to check if anypony is there but it was dusty and rotted just like his parents’ room, almost as if no pony had lived here for years? “What's going on?” He wondered as he started to worry. “Is this a dream?” He heads outside to see his house once more. “What has happen to my home? And where's mommy and daddy?” He stared at what he once called his home and closed his eyes. “Please tell me this is a dream!” he cried. He closes his eyes once more, hoping to return to in his room.

He opens his eyes and saw that it still wasn't his room but a group of young colts and fillies playing in some unknown room or place. He looks around seeing that everypony was having fun, except for him. He never had seen so many ponies all at once. He tried to look around to see where he is. However one pony in particular has caught Prophet’s attention. He never met him in his life but somehow he looks very familiar. His coat had light shade of purple while his mane a dark violet-ish color. Prophet couldn't help but scratch his head. “Why does he remind me of somepony?” He couldn't find the answer to his question. He thinks about it until it was interrupted by a small orange filly’s voice who happens to be much older than Prophet and the purple colt.

“Hey Lucky! There you are!” she yelled as she frighten the poor colt. Prophet watches the two foals interact with each other. “Lucky what are you doing here all by yourself?” She questioned her friend. “Oh nothing.” Her friend replied. “I'm just wondering…” He looks outside the window as the orange filly did the same. She can tell her friend was unhappy. “Lucky…”

“I'm wondering if my parents or my brother is alive right now?” The orange filly looked at him with sadness as Lucky began to cry. She gave him a hug to cheer her little friend.

“Please don’t cry.” She sighs. “To tell you the truth, I really don't know what happened to your parents or your brother.” The filly pause for a moment. “But you shouldn't feel sad about it. Just because they're not here right now doesn't mean you're not gonna see them again. I know it’s hard, trust me I know how you feel. My dad left me here a few years ago and he promised me he would come pick me up when he came back. But he never came. In my heart I know my dad is out there somewhere and hopefully I will get to see him again when I'm older.”

Lucky sniffles and wipes the tears from his eyes. “B-But how do you know I'm going to see my family again? What if I don't ever get the chance to meet them?”

The small filly replied with a warm smile, “Well I guess you should remain positive and don't give up hope. You may not understand now but you will in time. I guess what I'm trying to saying is everything happens for a reason. I know my dad wouldn't just leave me here for no reason. I don't know what they are but I'm sure he had a reason for why he did it. If I ever get the chance to see him again, I will ask him.” She thinks about her beloved father and sighs. She then turns her attention to Lucky, “Even if I don't meet him at least I got you.”

This made Lucky smile knowing that he wasn't alone in this world. “Thanks Amber.” He hugs her once more and Amber embraced him with open hooves.

“No problem Lucky, I'm here for you!” She let out a warm smile. “Now come on let's go find Hot Head and Annie.”

“Okay!” As the two friends ran and search to find their other friends Prophet was once again alone.

“Lucky? Is that his name?” He questioned to himself. Before he has more questions to figure out he needed to find a way outside. So he looked around the place for ten minutes trying to find the door until he discovered the exit. He opened the door and a bright light shined before him. This blinded his eyes for a second until he was able to see. What he found from the other side of the door was a hill. He looked back and the door was gone. Around him was grass and beautiful flowers: tulips, lilies, orchids, and other flowers he had never seen. There were trees that can be seen from miles away. He also saw snowy mountains from afar! Then he felt a gentle breeze blow through his mane. The young colt couldn't tell if this is a hill or small valley but whatever it is it sure was a magnificent sight to behold. He took a deep breath of fresh air and lets out. “Wow…!” He exclaimed. He was amazed of what he saw. It all ended however when he saw somepony in the distance. Once again his curiosity got the better of him and he decides to go after the pony. When arriving at the destination he noticed something about this pony. Despite the pony is much older, he froze to see him.

“No.. It can't be him….” he whispered to himself.

When the pony turn around and sees the little colt staring at him they both stare at each other for a minute. Prophet couldn't speak as if something is holding him back. The older pony smiled at him and began walking away from him.

“Hey wait! Come back!” Prophet chased the older pony but no matter how fast he ran his little hooves keep he couldn't catch up with him. “Wait!” His voice echoed through the valley until the pony was no longer insight.

The dream came to an abrupt end when Prophet finally woke up. He closed his eyes and rubs them to make sure he isn't dreaming again. He opens them and looks around to see if he is in some unknown place again. No doubt this was indeed his room. He saw his nightstand, his bed, his little nightlight (he has fear of darkness), and his toys.

“I-I'm back? I'm back home! Whew!” Prophet sighs with relief knowing he's back home safe and sound. It was quiet. Still Prophet wanted to make sure that he is really back at home. So he decide to check his parents’ room. He opens the door of his bedroom and what he heard was somepony crying. He pondered, “Who is crying?” He remembers the baby's arrival. “The baby!” He exclaimed with enthusiasm. He rushed to his parents’ bedroom and completely forgot the dream he just had. When he reached his parents bedroom he slowly open the door to see without getting attention. He quietly hears his parents conversation.

Day Dream was panting while Hunter picked up the brand new baby foal in his hooves and brings the baby next to his wife. “You did it Dreamer! Hunter looks at his second son and smiles. “Wow…. Just look at him.”

“What a beautiful baby colt.” She starts cleaning the baby up. Hunter then grabs a blue blanket with his magic and puts it over the baby colt.

“Wait a colt? That means I have a baby brother…” Prophet said this to himself.

“Should I get Prophet?” Hunter asked. Day Dream nods.

Just as Hunter opens the door with his magic and was about to head to his son’s room Prophet falls to the floor muzzle-first.

“Ow!” He exclaims. Hunter and Day Dream were baffled to see their son outside the door.

“How long were you outside?” His father asks.

“Umm... not too long.” His son replied while rubbing his muzzle.

“Hmm…” His father was begin to feel bit suspicious knowing that their son may have been listening to their conversation the whole time. He put that thought behind for he wanted his son to meet his new younger brother. “Oh forget it. Anyway come meet your new brother.” He lifts up Prophet with his magic and sets him on the bed.

Day Dream softly cuddles her new foal as Prophet watched. For some odd reason Prophet sniffles the baby. “He looks so small.” He said after sniffling his new baby brother.

“Mmhm. You were this small too you know.” His mother replied.

“Whoa. So… Does he have a name?”

“We never decided yet.” His father replied.

“Do you have any ideas Prophet?” His mother now asks his son.

Prophet stares at the new baby. He hesitates for a minute though to him it felt longer. Knowingly the dream he just had has return in his thoughts. “What if….that colt in my dream is my brother? Whatever happen to us?” Did something happen to us in the future?? And who the heck is Hot Head and Annie?!?” He was flooded with questions even his mother began to notice.

“Prophet?” There was a sense of concern in her voice. Her husband can tell his wife is worrying just by her tone-of-voice. There was silence for another 2 long minutes. Nopony said anything... The only thing Prophet could hear is his heartbeat. He gulps down his saliva though it was hard for him to swallow. After being quiet for 3 minutes, Hunter decided to speak up however Prophet was the one to finally break the ice.

“He's different than us.” Prophet says.

“Hm? What do you mean?” His mother was now curious of what he really meant by “different”.

“I d-dunno? He just…seems different. He's not going to be one of us when he grows up…” Both Hunter and Day Dream look at each other confused.

“Maybe you mean that he's going to follow his own path as he gets older? Or maybe he will be independent? Is that what you mean, sweetheart?” His mother replied hoping to get an answer from her son.

“Like a free spirit?” His father joins in the conversation. Prophet just simply shrugs. Dreamer looks at Hunter when he said “free spirit.”

“Hm, I like the sound of that actually.” Dreamer says.

“Huh?” Hunter now turns his attention to Dreamer.

“Free Spirit. I think that is a great name. What do you two think?”

“I like that a lot. Prophet, what do you think?” Hunter asks his son.

Prophet didn't say anything. His response was simply a smile and nods in agreement. Daydream looks down at her baby and smiles warmly. “He’s going to grow to be strong and independent and peaceful. Our little Free Spirit.”
