They say that the world is a beautiful place where everybody should love each other and get along. Living in harmony with everyone else was easy for some, but for many others it was a dream. Society always has a way at lashing out and causing destruction and chaos to unfold devilishly in front of you. You are happy one moment then depressed the next, then happy again. The cycle continues to flow as we go about our daily lives wondering what role we play in this world.
You would think it comes easy to you, your special talent, something you are good above the rest with, something you are proud of and can make a happy life out of. Sometimes it is, sometimes it has a way of making you look like a fool in front of all of your friends and family, crushing your dreams and making you feel like there is no hope for you in this world, making you feel weak and completely alone.
We assume life is perfect and that nothing will go wrong, but then harsh reality hits. Overwhelming work and terrible expressionless people around you just trying to get by, thugs, drug abuse, prostitution, even the government turning against you, passing laws allowing the assassination of anybody without reason. Even censorship of the internet and tracking peoples emails just for security. This world is turning for the worst and people are blind to see it.
The year 2034 and scientists have been testing inter-dimensional portals to see if they can manage to develop a way to get to a new planet quickly in case of crisis. Media attention got wind of rumors about this top secret project that the government had be starving the population to support and immediately started broadcasting this information they had received. Riots broke out and protests against the government erupted from the streets of cities all over North America blaming the government for the debt crisis and stock plummets. Thousands upon thousands lost their jobs and homes. The streets filled up with people sleeping on the street, begging the wealthy for money, crying themselves to sleep every single night telling themselves that everything will be fine to reassure them that this isn’t the end of the line. The rich kept getting richer as the streets continued to fill up with the homeless and crying.
As time move on, the project continued and so did the homeless population counts. From Dallas to Toronto, City streets became slums, infested by insects, rats and an overwhelming amount of garbage. Everyone thought that this was the absolute end of the line. They were wrong. A pandemic broke out. The common flue mutated into what was known as NRD, much worse than any other flue seen in recent times. Neural and Respiratory Decay caused the persons neural system to decay rapidly, causing heart failure, and peoples bodies to contort in disturbing ways. The lungs also slowly shrivelled up, along with the bronchioles, leading to suffocation.
Two of the leading scientists on the project managed to sneak the three most critical parts of the project back to their house to use with their version of the project, a scaled down version still capable of inter-dimensional portal connections. Steve and Phill were still in love with the show My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, that had long been finished and which was now outdated. They thought ahead of time that testing the portal on a smaller scale would be best so they wouldn't have worry about opening a portal the size of the Stargate, another show they still loved, yet was far outdated.
They spent hours working, reworking wires and plugs. Circuitry wires were laid out all along the floor, looking over one another over and over, seeming to never stop in the vast kilometers of wiring they had managed to save up over the years in case of an emergency. The miniature portal, about a foot in diameter, hummed as it was waiting for the commands, sitting on the hard wood table. They ran around frantically, still hooking up wires and the command screen. Time dragged on and after two hours they seemed at ease and proud of the web of wires strewn about the room, connected to computers, generators and the main command board “It’s finally done” spoke Steven in an excited yet professional voice.
Phill nodded in agreement
They both decided that bringing the world of Equestria would be the safest first test of this experimental prototype. Phil turn on the command screen, causing the portal to glow a soft blue, proving that the automatic system error check was working and that everything is ready to go. Hey typed the main command “Activate//$portal-hash_initiation*2Z36ag-aplha2]”
The portal hummed louder as the command travelled through the vast kilometer of wiring, spiraling around the room in a quick dance of electrons. The blue glow sharply flashed into a green film in the center of the portal making a miniature green door, shining brightly as the humming died down. He then typed “Command:^42_hash$execute-forward_connect[EQ_$378378742_LOC-[766984553]-xalpha”
The command loaded into the portal as a bar appeared on the command screen saying “Connecting..” as a bar beneath it inched towards 100%. “It’s actually working!” they both said in almost perfect coordination, celebrating with an enthusiastic high five.
Police sirens burst into sound as the connection started to make its final lock. The sirens got closer as Steve and Phill realised those sirens were for them. “Nononono!” Phill drastically pounded at the power button, desperate to turn it off, his attempts were useless as a spark flashed off of the command screen, cracking as the portal continued to connect. “Get it turned off!” Steven yelled at Phill, but Steven didn't notice that he was unconscious on the tangled mess of wires. The ETF rolled up onto the front lawn of their house, bursting out from their vehicles, commands being spewed out at one another as two officers ran up to the door, kicking it in. Steve lost his balance as a officer butted him in the head with the end of his gun, causing him to stumble backwards and fall onto the wooden table, knocking the portal onto the ground. The portal cracked as wires disconnected being thrown across the room. A bright white light flashed and the Officers looked away as a loud female voice screamed out in a deafening tone as the ground shook rapidly, the screams pitch increasing into a deafening screech. Then, everything went silent.
