Mourning for the Loss of a Toy
Mourning for the Loss of a Toy
Load Full StoryShe sat on top of the hill, tears dripping down her cheeks. Several ponies had come to comfort her, but none of them understood her loss. Nopony understood. They just thought she was a little filly with some attachment issues. Nothing more.
"Pinkie?" whispered Twilight, lightly tapping her friend to get her attention.
"Yes, Twilight?" asked Pinkie, full of her usually pep and happiness.
"Why is that filly crying on a hill?" she pointed her hoof towards the pink filly, who was lying on the ground and crying.
"You mean Sweet Heart?" Pinkie suddenly lost her happiness, and her mane deflated a bit, "She's just crying because she lost a loved one."
"Oh... That's awful... Has anypony gone to comfort her?"
"I'm pretty sure her family and friends had been, but they left one at a time."
"Why would they leave her to mourn alone?"
"You could ask her."
"Wouldn't that be rude?"
"Not as rude as random guessing."
"I suppose you're right."
Twilight walked at a casual speed up the hill until she reached the top, where Sweet Heart was crying. She had an orange mane and tail, pale yellow coat, and a cutie mark that was a medial cross with a heart in it.
"Excuse me?" asked Twilight in a warm voice, getting Sweet's attention, "But what are you doing?"
"Crying." she replied, getting to her hooves, "Why? What do you want?"
"What are you crying about?"
Sweet gave Twilight a slight glare, "Oh, so you also want to know what this 'little filly' is doing on top of this hill crying with no adult supervision, huh?" she snapped.
"Did I offend you?" Twilight didn't understand what she could have done wrong.
"Oh, no!" she said sarcastically, "I'm just fine with you talking to me like I'm a filly who can't even spell!"
"But aren't you-"
"I'm am a bucking teenager!" Twilight flinched a little from her language, "Now, unless you want to actually care about what I'm crying over, go away!"
"But what are you crying about?"
Sweet's anger dissipated almost immediately, "I just lost somepony, that's all. Now you can leave."
"Who?"
"Stuffy Plushy." she said, more tearing spilling down.
"I haven't heard of a pony named Stuffy Plushy who has passed away recently."
"Of course you wouldn't! She was my plushy!"
"You're crying about your toy?"
"Yes."
"Do yo have other toys?"
"Of course I do."
"Then why are you upset about losing your toy? You can just get a new one! You have other ones!"
"She wasn't just a toy!"
"Then what was she?"
"She was... she was..."
"What was she?"
"My best friend..."
Twilight paused as Sweet started crying more.
"I don't understand. Do you not have other friends?"
"I have other friends! And of course you don't understand! Nopony understands!"
"Would you care to explain why?"
"Stuffy was my first friend. She was always there for me."
"When did you get her?"
"On my birthday."
"Which one?"
"No, as in on the day I was born."
"And you're a teenager?"
"I've had her my whole life."
"Wow... That's a really long time. But did you store her in a box?"
"No, I kept her on my bed."
"But why was she your best friend?"
"She was always there for me. If I was mad, I could complain to her. If I was sad, she would be there to comfort me. If I was happy, she was there to make me smile even harder." Sweet paused, "She saved my life."
"How did she save your life?"
"I was sad. Really sad. I didn't want to continue. But she was there to comfort me. And she made me happy again."
"She saved you from killing yourself."
"Yeah."
The two ponies sat in silence for bit, as Sweet cried more. Twilight realized that she was upset for more than one reason. Sweet was upset that she lost her toy, as it had deep emotion value to her. The other reason was that nopony understood why she was so upset about losing a toy. Twilight hadn't even understood until she explained it.
"What exactly happened to your toy- I mean, Stuffy?" asked Twilight.
Sweet pointed at a small box that was partially in the ground. Twilight pulled it over with her magic and opened it up. Inside were scraps of fabric and stuffing, all shredded into tiny pieces.
"I just found her like that on my bed." said Sweet, very upset, "I wanted to get her fixed, but nopony could sew all that back together."
"Did you try asking Rarity? She might be able to put Stuffy back together!"
"I did ask her," Sweet sounded angry again, "And she wanted to make me a new toy. She tried to throw the pieces out."
"Oh..."
Twilight looked at the pieces again, an idea forming in her head.
"I might can fix her." said Twilight, hoping she wasn't lying.
"You can fix her?" asked Sweet, sounding hopeful.
"Yes. I can fix her."
"And you're willing to?"
"From what you've said, I'm more than willing."
Twilight used magic and pulled each piece out of the box, holding them in front of her. She had restored destroyed object before, but never something made of so many pieces. She concentrated before casting the spell, and hoping that it would work.
Sweet cried with happiness and hugged Twilight.
"Thank you! Thank you, so much!" she said, holding Stuffy Plush tight in her hooves.
