Shining Armor has moved on to new duties in the Crystal Empire. A new year will dawn soon - it is eleven days until Hearthswarming. Set against a backdrop of song and merriment, recently appointed guard Captain Hector Silvermane is called away from the warmth of his loving wife and given an assignment that demands both utmost priority and utmost discretion. Disturbing reports have reached the royal house, stemming from a sleepy borough in the foothills of mountains near Neighagra Falls - an old mining town called Little Hoofington. With a small but steadfast population suddenly experiencing an exodus due to ponies that claim their friends are no longer familiar to them, the royal house has no choice but to suspect the worst - changeling infiltration, in the form of an attempt to gain a foothold in Equestria by targeting a tiny village nopony will miss.

Embarking on his own so as not to arouse the fears of the populace, Captain Silvermane has high hopes the local constabulary will come to his aid, and he'll be back in his wife's forelegs before the bells toll on Hearthswarming Eve.
