Tomorrow Is Another Day.
Why So Sad?
Load Full StoryThe night sky high above was a pitch black, much like a void in space, not a single star was out to shine and add a bit of beauty to this bleak scene. The air caressing over my coat was bitter, far too cold to feel comfortable, rather I felt a sudden and icy chill run down my backside.
My hooves clicked across the stone sidewalk in a dull echo, my dark green eyes gazing forward to the high arching bridge ahead of me, I had always passed over this bridge to get home, yet never once had I stopped to just take it in, perhaps tonight I would.
The wind blew softly through my long coffee colored mane, yet all I could feel was another icy chill, tracing down my spine painfully, I made my way higher up the arch of the old stone bridge, my white coat a mess, light traces of dirt and debris of the day matted into it.
I came to a stop in the middle of the bridge, cheeks in pain from the cold wind of the night, tears from eariler still staining them, the icy chill a constant reminder of this night. I tilted my head to the left, nopony around, then to the right, once more greeted by silence.
Lifting a delicate hoof up, I placed it upon the railing, with ease lifting myself to my hind legs, gazing freely to the long drop below, the ice cold water of a pond flowing by, its color so bleak, almost the same void as the sky.
I could feel a tear slowly rolling down my cheek, much like a shooting star, free falling to the water below and vanishing, would it truly be that easy to fade away? The water so dark, able to sweep and wipe all pain away, all I would have to do is...
"Want to grab a coffee?" A sudden voice of a mare spoke up cheerfully, I could only gasp in shock from the sudden outburst.
Looking to my side quickly, I could make out a odd smiling shadow, with glowing greenish blue hues, that burned almost like embers in the darkness, as if flaring out of the corners of the eyes wildly.
I could stare in silence, heart racing wildly in my chest, mouth dry and mind blank, I didn't know what this creature had planned or wanted on this darkest of nights.
"Oh! You have Silent Protagonist Syndrome? SPS?- heard that's going around lately." The mare giggled softly, stepping out of the darkness and into the light.
The shadows lifting from her pinkish white coat, showing her slender frame that trotted ever so closer to my side, coming to a complete stop, her mane was elegant and a dark blue color, pale green and pink streaks cascading down its length. Her eyes still stood out most, one having a odd symbol within the iris.
"I just asked, if you felt like a coffee, because I used to throw like a bit into the water everynight, you know on wishes and junk..." The mare winked softly nudging my side.
"Wouldn't you know it, I'm walking home tonight and find all my spare change just washed up on the shore, hilarious huh?"
"I... no thank you." I slowly spoke up, unsure what else I could say.
"That SPS cleared up real quick, though if you don't mind me saying you sound like crap."
"Wow. thanks alot." I sighed rolling my eyes slightly, suddenly feeling a slight hug as the mare wrapped a hoof around my shoulder firmly.
"Don't mention it!" She smirked sweetly as if oblivious to my sarcasm.
"Who are you?" I asked with a narrowed gaze.
"A.H as ponies just call me, My friends call me pal and I guess you can just call me Hartwick."
"Ook? Listen Hartwick, I've had a rough day and want to just..."
"Well it's night time now."
"So!!?"
"Well in like a hour, this day will be gone, replaced with a new one." Hartwick jumped up on her hind hooves as well, looking out over the bridge railing with a mischievous smirk.
"Well, I'll still feel like my heart was ripped out."
"Then just think of it like this that day, Tomorrow is another day."
"Just keep skipping days huh?" I sighed lowering my ears down, gazing to the water flowing by below.
"Nope, not skipping just taking note, that each day brings something new and takes away something old."
I slowly raised a brow to the odd mare, just now taking note of her odd tail, long and slender more of a tail found upon a dragon than a pony, her wings upon her back twitching playfully.
"Yeah some days can be rough, ponies look down at you because the way you look, they sneer or laugh, though some just extend a hoof with a smile on their face." Hartwick stretched her backside softly, a giggle escaping her lips as she drifted away into her thoughts.
"But as the days roll by, those things that seemed rough, became less and less of a worry, the laughing faded away and the hooves that greeted in joy, seemed to just stick around."
"How are you so sure?" I spoke up in a soft whisper, a soft outline of my breath, escaping from my muzzle.
"That's the trick. I'm not."
"..."
"Though as the days go by, you'll find that it's less and less you'll cry, the angeryou feel towards somepony in pain, just might change to a dear friend, you'll gain."Hartwick sighed softly, gently hopping down from the railing, her backside swaying softly as she began to walk across the bridge.
I could hear her hoofsteps growing faint, dark green eyes locked onto the night sky above, a few stars gently shimmering in the void, pushing out of the darkness and burning proudly. I did my best to swallow the growing lump in my throat, just to hear that cheerful giggle once more.
"Well? Are you coming for that joe or not?" Hartwick smirked from the bottom of the path, her eyes glowing lightly now, filled with a shimmer of kindness and a gleam of laughter.
"Tomorrow Is Another Day." I found myself cracking a light smile.
A small piece of the night before, already being replaced with something new.
Hope.
