The Pegasus ponies had made sure that summer would go bright and cloud-less, and they did a fine job keeping it that way. Any clouds that did manage to escape from the weather factory in Cloudsdale were soon hunted down by the quickest Pegasus pony Equestria had seen in years: Rainbow Dash. As soon as she heard the call that a cloud had floated out of her home, she was on it like a northern bullet. She didn’t seem herself, though. She wasn’t smiling when she kicked the clouds to dust, and didn’t stick around with her friends to gloat about it. She would just fly back to her cloud and sleep. Fluttershy couldn’t even get to her, even though she was her best friend. One day, however, Rainbow Dash did come back to Ponyville, and went straight to Fluttershy’s place. Fluttershy was tending to a parrot’s leg. The parrot had flown straight into a glass window and broke it’s right leg on impact with the ground. Fluttershy was just finishing wrapping it in bandages, when a knock came from her door. Fluttershy flew over to her front door, but her rabbit, Angel hopped in front of it, spreading her arms across and her head quickly. “Oh, Angel, honey, would you please move? Someone’s at the door.” Fluttershy said, but the bunny still shook her head, and spread her arms out even wider. “Please, Angel?” Fluttershy asked, “Pretty please?” The bunny still shook her head. “Well, I didn’t wanna have to do this...” Flutershy warned, and gave the bunny the most puppish eyes she could muster. The bunny stared back for a few moments, smacked her forehead, and moved out of the way. “Thank you, dear,” Fluttershy said smiling, and opened the door. There, on her threshold, was Rainbow Dash. Her eyes were red, but she had a grin on her face. “Hi, Dashie,” Fluttershy greeted her, “I wasn’t expecting any company today,” “Well, I’m expecting you to come over Apple Jack’s place later today!” The Pegasus said cheerfully, “I’m gonna be choosing a new pet today, and I’d like you to come!” “But I have plenty of animals here,” Fluttershy said, pointing her hoof to the inside of her house. “Flutter, I’ve already seen the animals you have!” Rainbow said, “Besides, I already chose the next two animals to be my pets!” “Well, I guess if your certain,” Fluttershy said, thinking what the animals could be, “then I suppose I could come. What are they?” “Oh, you’ll see when you get there!” Rainbow said, “So, you in?” “I guess, but I have to help the other animals first,” “Well, come around at about three-ish, ‘kay?” “Well, okay, sure, why not?” “That’s the spirit, Flutter! See ya then!” And Rainbow took off, soaring over towards Cloudsdale. As three o’clock struck, Fluttershy said goodbye to all her pets (and I mean ALL her pets) and flew off towards Sweet Apple Acres. She tried not too look down as she sailed across the sky, and landed in front of Apple Jack’s front barn. But there was nopony there. Fluttershy knew that it was three, so she couldn’t be early or late. She looked around the entire barn and didn’t find a soul, pony or pet. She was just starting to get the idea that she had got the wrong time, when a voice from behind whispered in her ear: “Hey, Flutter!” Fluttershy whipped around, startled by this sudden voice, to come face-to-face with Rainbow. She had red stains all over her hooves and face, but was still smiling broadly. “Dashie?” Fluttershy ask, “What happened? Where is everypony?” “Everypony?” repeated Rainbow, “I suppose they all got dead tired and went to rest for the evening. As for me, I’m covered in bone marrow. I was wresting Winona over a bone, and it got a little dirty. But, anyways, you got a little bit of dirt on your cheek, there,” Rainbow said, pointing her hoof to her right cheek. Fluttershy started to wipe it off, when Rainbow held out a blue napkin. “Take this,” she said, and Fluttershy, not needing the napkin, but also not wanting to be rude, put it over her cheek and started wiping. She then decited that she’d better clean the rest of her face, too, and wiped anything that was on her nose off. The napkin smelt pretty funny, Fluttershy couldn’t identify what the smell was, not even when she sniffed the napkin twice. When she was done wiping, she felt a little drowsy. “Why do I feel so sleepy all of a sudden?” she wondered aloud. “Well, probably because there was chloroform in that napkin,” Rainbow said, smiling evily. Fluttershy gasped and tried to keep her ground, but soon fell over, sleepy gracefully. Fluttershy awoke several hours later to a dull beeping noise, but she wasn’t sure if she had, because it was just as dark with her eyes open as it was having them closed. She looked around, trying to see just a hint of light, but none could be seen any where she looked, except a heart monitor next to her. When she looked behind her, however, she found that she couldn’t! Her waist was strapped down with belts, preventing her from turning. She tried to move her front hooves, but found that they also were restrained! Even her back hooves were tied, and Fluttershy couldn’t move. Suddenly, light finally appeared in the middle of the room. It was a bright, white flash that almost blinded Fluttershy, but as it died down, and Fluttershy’s eyes re-adjusted to the light, she saw that she was in Apple Jack’s apple cellar. But there weren’t any apples to be seen, just a very violent seen of blood spattered walls and a bone-littered floor. In the center of the room, a stage was set up, with red curtains closed. Looking to her left, Fluttershy saw something that made her screech: Twilight was restrained right next to her, unconscious, with her head bowed low. Hearing the shriek, Twilight woke with a sudden jerk and looked around the room frantically. When she saw Fluttershy strapped down next to her, she did a double-take and starred at her friend, a look of absolute horror on her face. There was an extra cord strapped to her forehead, stuck there by a suction cup. “Oh, Fluttershy!” she said, “Not you! She couldn’t have gotten you!” “Are those voices I hear?” said a familiar voice behind the stage, “Or just some ponies mumbling in their sleep?” “W-who are y-you?” said Fluttershy, shaking from head to hoof. “You don’t know?” said the voice, “Or can’t remember?” And the stage curtains flew open, and behind them sat Rainbow Dash and Apple Jack in two red, fluffy chairs. Apple Jack looked like she was sleeping, her head tilted on her chair. “Spooky, isn’t it?” Rainbow said, getting up from her chair and pacing the stage, “Looks like something right out of the horror stories! Someone held against their will, a phsycopath acting like nothing is unusual, a dark, underground setting...” “Rainbow Dash, you let us go right now,” Twilight said threateningly, “Or I’ll use my magic to undo these binds myself!” “Oh, I wouldn’t do that, Twi!” Rainbow said, snickering,But Twilight was concentrating on a spell, but right when it fired there was the sound of screamimg as both Twilight and Fluttershy were electrocuted. Once it died down after a bit, Rainbow turn to Fluttershy. “Fluttershy!” she said, her face dead serious, “You see that cord on Twilight’s forehead? That’s an electrical wire used to prevent magic! If Twilight tries any magic tricks while that cord is there, zap! She’ll be electrified for ten seconds flat!” “That cord was hidden in my library!” said Twilight, shocked and looking at the cord, “How did you find it?” “I ain’t saying nothing, Twilight!” said Rainbow, “But I will say it was a pretty ‘Spikey’ situation!” “Dashie,” said Fluttershy, still extremely scared, “Why are you doing this? You said you found new pets!” “I did find new pets,” said Rainbow, “You and Twilight,” Fluttershy’s heart monitor accelerated twice as fast, and Twilight’s skipped a beat. //-------------------------------------------------------// Phase 1: Speed //-------------------------------------------------------// Phase 1: Speed “Now, if you don’t know already,” Rainbow said, pacing the floor of the stage, “My pet tortoise Tank died, so I’ve been looking for a new pet!” She stopped in front of Apple Jack, who was still asleep on her chair, “But most of the pets I’ve found haven’t been very successful.” She tapped Apple Jack’s head slightly with her hoof, and AJ’s head slid off easily and landed on the floor and off the stage. No blood flowed out of the open arteries. She had been killed a while ago. Fluttershy and Twilight screamed, their heart monitors beeping madly. “Oh, there’s no need to scream like that!” Rainbow said, laughing, “She’s in a place full of all the apples she can eat now!” she laughed loudly again, a laugh shockingly full of mirth, “Poor mare, though. Her last words were, ‘I’ll see ya on the other side, Rainbow.’But she’s not the only one who failed to fit my criteria!” She pointed her hoof above Twilight’s head, and, on a mantle piece, was Rarity’s head, her eyes and mouth wide open and nailed to a plaque. Fluttershy couldn’t bear to look, and Twilight was hyperventilating. “So that’s why I brought you ponies here!” Rainbow continued, putting a paper bag over Twilight’s mouth to ease her, “You’re the only ones left, since Pinkie moved to Canterlot. Now, which one of you has what it takes to be my pet?” “I don’t wanna be your pet!” shouted Twilight, ripping her mouth away from the bag, “I just want to go home!” “We can’t compete there, Twi!” Rainbow said, giggling slightly, “It’s too open! We don’t want too much attention, do we? You both remember the categories, right? Speed, agility, guts, style, coolness, awesomeness, and radicalness!” “I still think those are all the same thing...” mumbled Twilight under her breath. Rainbow didn’t hear, so she continued. “Let’s start with speed!” she said, pulling a red tool box out from behind the stage, “Let’s see who can take pain the longest without pleaing for mercy!” she opened the box and pulled out four switchblades. “Dashie, please,” Fluttershy was tearing, “don’t do this! We’re your friends!” “Fluttershy, you don't need to start pleaing now!” Rainbow said, walking up to Fluttershy and switching on the blades. Fluttershy looked nervously at the blade, and Rainbow said, “I need to cripple you so you don’t run and tell the police once I’m finished.” “What!?” screamed Fluttershy, but Rainbow had already swung both switchblades and made sure that they dug deep into Fluttershy’s kneecaps. Blood spilled every where as Fluttershy screamed in pain and agony over the sound of her kneecaps shattering, the blades still in her knees as Rainbow, covering her ears, walked to Twilight, who was and desparatly trying to escape her bonds. “Your turn, Twi!” Rainbow said over Fluttershy’s screams, and repeated what she had did before, the blades digging right through Twilight’s kneecaps and coming out the other side of her leg. Twilight screamed louder than Fluttershy, both now making a horrible chorus of shrieks and yells that rang through the cellar. “Fluttershy, you’re at fifteen seconds!” Rainbow shouted, looking at one of the two stop watches she had timing, “Twilight, ten!” “Rainbow, I don’t care what time I’ve got!” Twilight shouted after vomiting off the right side of her table, “Just make it stop!” “Ouch,” said Rainbow, stopping both stop watches, “Twilight ended phase one!” she took out two shot needles and injected the first one into Fluttershy’s leg, and then the second one into Twilight’s leg. Both their screams of pain died away almost instantly. “Pain killer,” Rainbow said once Fluttershy and Twilight stopped screaming all together, “And a very strong one! It doesn’t numb pain or lock pain currents in the body, it’s a fluid that shuts out all feeling of pain without the wound healing! In other words, it’s like an accelerated healing process, but it doesn’t heal the wound. It just tricks the body into thinking the wound isn’t there! Pretty cool, huh?” “Rainbow,” said Twilight softly, her breathing heavy, “what did we do to deserve this? If there’s anything we’ve done to you that we haven’t apologized for yet, I’m sorry, I really am.” “I second that,”said Fluttershy, tears leaking out of her eyes and landing on the table, mixing with her blood. “You guys really don’t get it, do you? Rainbow said, kicking a bone that was on the ground and sending it soaring through the air and hitting a wall. It landed on the ground with a dull thunk. “You guys haven’t done anything to me (not yet, anyway) that would make me want to kill you!” “Then why are you doing this?” asked Twilight, looking up at Rainbow with red eyes. “I’ve already told you!” Rainbow said, crushing another bone with her hoof, “For a straight A student, Twilight, you sure can’t listen right! Onto phase two! Agility!” //-------------------------------------------------------// Phase 2: Agility //-------------------------------------------------------// Phase 2: Agility “Rainbow, we can’t move right for two reasons now,” said Twilight, “One, because we’re strapped down, and two, because we now have shattered kneecaps!” Fluttershy looked at her legs, which were still bleeding, and still had the switchblades in them. She cried softly. “You’re saying that as if it’s a bad thing!” Rainbow said, digging around in the tool box, “It all pays off in the aftermath! In the meantime, try to doge these little guys, they’ll be going after your wings, Fluttershy, and your horn, Twilight.” She brought up what looked like little electronic saw blades and placed two going up Fluttershy’s side ‘til it reached her wings and one dangling above Twilight’s head. “Now, what’s gonna happen is that I’m going to turn these little bad boys on, and you two try to dodge them before they cut off either your wings or your horn! Try not to let them do either! Go!” Rainbow hit a trigger, and immediately the little saws started creeping toward Fluttershy’s wings, saw blades spinning rapidly. Fluttershy tried her best to tuck her wings in, but the bonds she was restrained in were too tight. She couldn’t get her wings under her! At the last second, though, Fluttershy lifted her wings up, and the saws passed directly under her wings. Fluttershy thought it was over, so she relaxed her wings. But she was wrong. The blades were coming back, and both dug themselves directly into Fluttershy’s wings. Fluttershy screeched in pain and suprise as the blade on her right side cut through her wing as if it were a sting, spraying the right side of the table with blood that flowed out freely out of her snapped veins. But the left side one was having trouble. It tried to dig in through her wing bone, but it was jammed. It wouldn’t cut through her left wing! “Fluttershy!” Twilight yelled, breaking her concentration of avoiding her saw, which swung and stabbed her horn, and began cutting through. Twilight screeched in pain and tried to shake the saw off, sending blood squiring in all directions, but that only helped the saw dig into her horn. So the saw cut through her horn and fell to the ground with a thud, and Twilight’s horn now lay at Rainbow’s hoofs in a pool of blood. “Ooh,” said Rainbow, thinking hard over Fluttershy’s and Twilight’s agony, “I’m not sure who to give that too... Fluttershy still has a wing on, so I think she wins,” Rainbow walked over to Fluttershy, who was still screaming and trying to get out of her bonds, “Looks like that little blade couldn’t get through!” she said, pressing the button and causing the blades to switch off, “The bone is almost cut completely, but it’s still on there! I think I can get it off,” Rainbow grasped the wing with her hoofs and yanked as hard as she could, emitting shrieks out of Fluttershy and squirting blood out of the open veins, which covered Rainbow's hoofs. She pulled and pulled, but the wing wouldn’t snap. Finally, she gave up trying and just gave the Pain killers to them immediately after. “It’s all right, Fluttershy,” said Rainbow as she injected her with the drug, “That wing will fall off sooner or later, if you survive the challenges.” Fluttershy tried not to imagine what her wing looked like now, but by the reaction on Twilight’s face, and Rainbow constantly staring at it while talking, and by the warm, oozing feeling that dripped down her side, it gave her a very vivid image in her mind. “Well, Fluttershy is ahead by two points, Twi,” Rainbow said while staring at Fluttershy’s ripped, torn, and bleeding wing, “So you’d better pick up the pulse- oops, I meant pace!” “Just kill me now and get it over with!” cried Twilight unexpectedly,”Without a horn, I can’t do magic! Which means I’ll be useless to Princess Celestia! And then I’ll flunk all my tests and be sent back grades and-” “Twilight, you’re in a competition and have just lost your kneecaps and horn and you’re still worried about studies?” Rainbow asked, giving Twilight a questioning look, “Nevermind, I’m not gonna let my friend back out of such a great opportunity! On to Phase 3! Guts!" Fluttershy gulped. She had an odd feeling she knew what was coming. //-------------------------------------------------------// Phase 3: Guts //-------------------------------------------------------// Phase 3: Guts “Now, this is the part where I get to play doctor!” said Rainbow, going through the tool box again, “Let’s see, we got a scalpel, a scalpel, another scalpel, and... perfect! An extra scalpel!” She pulled out four scalpels from the box, and Fluttershy’s fears were confirmed. Rainbow was going to perform surgery on her! Fluttershy tried twisting and turning to get loose from her bonds, but every time she tried, an enormous ammount of pain swelled up in her knees and back. Rainbow brought a stool to where Fluttershy was bound, and turned on the heart-monitor. The dull beeping sound of life echoed through the cellar once more. “Dashie,” Fluttershy squeled, “I don’t think I should be awake for this!” “Aw, lighten up, Flutter!” Rainbow said, strapping on some gloves and a surgical mask, “This is your first operation! Stay awake and share the moment with us!” Rainbow’s gloved right hoof grabbed one of the scalpels and reached for Fluttershy’s stomach. Fluttershy tried pleading with her, but her pleas were cut off by the scalpel digging it’s blade into her skin and piercing it, causing little droplets of blood to trickle down Fluttershy’s belly. Fluttershy bit her lip, trying to fight the enormous amount of pain. Rainbow started to cut the skin in a circle, starting at the bottom hip, then to Fluttershy’s left side, then just below her chest, to her right side, and back again. Rainbow did this three times to make sure that the scalpel dug deep enough, then peeled away the skin circle, revealing Fluttersy’s internal organs and causing Fluttershy to shriek in pain. The heart monitor was beeping three times as fast as it should, and Fluttershy was loosing blood. She was surly dying. The last thing she remembered was Rainbow digging around head-first in her lower intestines and Twilight shouting her name. Then she faded out. Several hours later, Fluttershy awoke to the same, dull beeping sound of the heart-monitor. it was at regular pace. Fluttershy couldn’t feel her broken wing any more, so she could only assume that it had been snatched off while she slept. She stared down at her belly and knees. Her stomach had been stitched back onto her belly, but not very well done. Here and there she could see small holes in her skin, which were slowing bleeding. Her knees were still shattered, but the blades had finally been taken out. She looked to her left, and saw Twilight lying down, also still restrained on her table. She was asleep, but her heart-monitor wasn’t beeping. Fluttershy stared at her friend and knew that she would never again hear Twilight’s lecturing, or her solutions to problems, or her talking about what she had learned about friendship. Just then, however, the sound of rolling wheels reached Fluttershy’s ears. Rainbow Dash came into the room, pushing a cart with another heart-monitor. Surely she hadn’t captured another helpless pony? Rainbow’s face and hair were covered in blood, and she pushed Twilight’s heart monitor away, and replaced it with the one she was pushing into the room. She turned around, and saw Fluttershy looking at her. “Rise and shine, Flutter!” she said, grinning. “You...” Fluttershy choaked out, “... Dashie, you killed her! You killed... Twilight!” “Wha?” Rainbow said with a confused look on her face, “No, Fluttershy, she blacked out soon after I was done with you and got started on her! And then her heart-monitor broke for some darned reason, so i had to get a new one.” “Twilight’s not dead?” Fluttershy said, suddenly full of hope. “She’s been alive, Flutter,” Raibow said, “Look, she’s coming to right now!” She pointed at Twilight, who was, in fact, moving. Twilight groaned, and tried to rub her forehead, but merely tugged on her bounds. “What happened?” she asked, waking up a little bit. “What happened is that you beat Fluttershy in guts!” Rainbow said, “She blacked out before you did, so that makes you the winner!” “Yippee,” Twilight said, rolling her eyes. “Well, I think that wraps up phase three! Time for phase four! Style!”
