Stranger Danger's abusive father died of pox, and she lives with her mother in Ponydale, where her parents have a reputation. Determined to make her daughter something more than an outcast, her mother pays for her to study under a private teacher and make good use of her prodigal daughter's intelligence. But she is heedless of the dangers she's exposing Stranger Danger to, which threaten to make her fears come true.
