Chapters Author's Note
This is my first story that I am writing so I do hope all of you enjoy it and I do understand that there will be something in the story that will need to be worked on
A Nightmarish Start
Sunset found herself aimlessly walking in nothing but darkness, moving back and forth, trying to find some way out. She finally noticed something different, something green in the distance. She squinted her eyes, trying to make out what exactly she was looking at. She moved forward, finally getting close enough to distinguish that the weird object was a pair of eyeballs that were staring back at her.
“Hello..... what are you?” Sunset asked very nervously but the eyes just blinked at her
“Okay well that was pointless eyes can't talk without a mouth, but what are they doing here?” she thought to herself, while the eyes just continued to blink and look at her, but the more Sunset just kept staring at these green eyes wondering what their purpose was she failed to notice that more of these green eyes were starting to surround her. Sunset stood up to look at the first pair of the green eyes and that's when she noticed the others.
“Oh my god, what in the world is going on?” Sunset question very confused and trying now to get away from them
“Monster” said a very quiet voice
“What?...w-who's there?” Sunset asked
“Monster, monster, monster” the voice was becoming multiple
“I don't know who you are but if your trying to scare me it's not going to work!” Sunset snapped but the voices kept growing louder and louder, continuing to say monster, monster, monster.
“BE QUIET!” Sunset yelled closing her own eyes so she wouldn't have to stare at the other eyes anymore, but to her shock the voices stopped. Sunset opened her eyes hoping to see that she was once again all alone, however she was wrong the green eyes were still there, just staring and staring. Sunset breathed a sigh of relief “Well at least I can deal with the silence”
“Demon” the quiet voice returned, sending Sunset a surprise look on her face at the word
“What? Did you just say?” asked Sunset
“Demon, demon, demon, demon” said the voices as once again they grew louder and louder, the green eyes started to move closer to Sunset causing her to become very nervous and scared, she bent down holding her hands over her ears trying to get the voices to stop, as she did that memories of her stealing Twilight's crown, putting it on transforming herself into a demon, immediately came back to Sunset along with the feelings of sadness, anger, hatred and a lust for power.
“SHUT UP” Sunset yelled at the top of her lungs holding her hands up and blasting the eyes with magic causing some of them to disappear. Sunset heard clapping in front of her, as she stood up walking towards her was a shadowy figure of herself that had glowing red eyes and a wicked smile on it's face.
“So you still have that feisty temper after all? that's impressive considering what you have become” smiled the Shadow
“What do you want?, what are you?” Sunset asked nervous of what stood in front of her
“I am your worst fear” responded the Shadow
“What fear?” questioned Sunset
“Your fear of becoming a monster, a demon once again and destroying the little bond you have formed with those friends of yours and hurting them once more that fear to be exact” said the Shadow
Sunset was trying not to look to nervous as everything it said was right and wondered what was the point of all this? By this time the green eyes that surrounded them had disappeared.
“You haven't answered why are you here talking to me?” questioned Sunset
“Isn't it obvious?, like I said I am your worst fear, you as the monster once again and there's also some anger and hatred that has been dormant inside yourself for a while now and it's finally rising up to the surface” responded the Shadow
“I will never be that monster again, I've changed, my friends have made me a better person so you can take being my fear and shove it!” Sunset snapped
“Oh is that so? I guess that means i'll have to do a little demonstration for you to show that you're not as changed as you think” smiled the Shadow back
“What are you...” Sunset tried to respond, but more shadowy figures appeared with glowing green eyes, making Sunset frightened as these shadows were holding Sunset's friends who were the worse for wear
“Sunset whats going?” asked Twilight
“Please darling help us” Rarity said tear forming in her eyes
“If I'm able to get free i'll pound you!” Rainbow Dash yelled
“No!, let them go now!” Sunset once again snapped at the Shadow. She looked at her friends who were frightened to what was going on
“Now why would I do that?” the Shadow said as it reached down into it's pocked and pulled out a dagger and gave Sunset another wicked smile and looked at the other girls
“Alright! I've had enough of this!” Sunset said as she tried to lunge towards the Shadow, but it then snapped it's fingers and suddenly Sunset's arms and legs became chained to the ground, Sunset looked at the Shadow confused.
“You're not the only one who can do magic here, now like was saying it's time to make a point” responded the Shadow as it held up the dagger to Sunset's face “Look at you, you're weak, pathetic, we gave you everything and now you're useless” it finished and walked to the girls
“No” Sunset said frightened
“Help us please” said Applejack
Sunset tried to break free but she couldn't all she could do was just stand there and watch as the Shadow raised the dagger up into the air turned to Sunset and said “It's just a point” then quickly lowered it's arm
'NOOOOOOOOO!' Sunset screamed as she sat up, breathing heavly and realized she was back in her room and what happened was just a nightmare, as her door opened
“Sunset are you okay?, why did you scream?” asked Fluttershy who was standing in the doorway confused and worried about her friend, Sunset didn't respond instead she just looked down at her hands with tears forming in her eyes as Fluttershy walked over to her and sat on the bed
“Shadow” Sunset told Fluttershy
Confused to what she said “What?” Fluttershy questioned
“There...was whispers c-calling me a monster a-and a demon, and there was this Shadow that appeared and it looked like me, it pulled out a dagger and walked over to you and the others and killed all of you” Sunset looked up at Fluttershy on the edge of crying. She was pulled into a hug by Fluttershy who was trying to calm her down. Sunset couldn't hold back the tears any longer she began to cry burying her face into Fluttershy's shoulder
"Sssshhhh It's okay, it's okay i'm here, no one is going to hurt me or you and say you're a monster or a demon, so just calm down everything will be alright” Fluttershy said calmly
“I don't what to be a monster again” Sunset cried
“You wont I promise you” Fluttershy said claiming as she broke the hug when Sunset calmed down
“Are you alright?” asked Fluttershy as she started to get up and leave the room
“Yes I am, but Fluttershy could you perhaps stay with me for a little while?” asked Sunset as Fluttershy answered her question by smiling and she walked over to the other side of Sunset's bed and laid down next to her. Sunset turned to face Fluttershy who reached over and started to play with her hair and Sunset just smiled back at her.
“So are you having fun playing with my hair” Sunset laughed
“Yes” Fluttershy blushed “I think I know away to help us both go to sleep”
“Which is?” Sunset looked curiously at Fluttershy who looked nervous but then she took a breath and started to sing
“Hush now, Quiet Now
it's time to lay your sleepy head
Hush now, Quiet Now
Drifting of to sleep
Let the joy of dream land find you
Hush now, Quiet now
Lay your sleepy head
Hush now, Quiet now
it's time to go to bed” as Fluttershy finished singing she noticed that Sunset had fallen asleep “Good night Sunset” she then pulled the covers over both of them and fell asleep too.
The Journey into the Past
Sunset woke up with the sun shining brightly through out her room "Fluttershy can you close the curtains so it's not so bright in here?" but when she opened her eyes slightly, she noticed that Fluttershy had already woken up and left the room. She got out of bed and walked down stairs to get some breakfast were she saw Fluttershy already making tea.
"Afternoon you slept longer than I thought" Fluttershy said
"Afternoon?" Sunset said puzzled before looking up at the clock and seeing it read 12:15 pm.
"Yes, I wanted to let you sleep in after the nightmare you had last night, but I didn't think you would sleep this late, even with that cute little snore of yours" Fluttershy answered.
Sunset rubbed her eyes and blinked a few times trying to wake herself, as she walked over to Fluttershy and wrapped her arms around the pink haired girl, placing her head on Fluttershy's shoulder
"Thank you for staying with me last night and making sure I was alright even with my cute little snore and all" Sunset said smiling at her making her blush a little
"Your very welcome I would do anything to make sure you're alright." Fluttershy said looking back at Sunset.
"So where's your parents and Zephyr?" Sunset asked.
As ever since the incident at the fall formal 5 years ago, Fluttershy had asked her parents to let Sunset move in with them, at first it was to keep a eye on her and make sure that she didn't get into any more trouble. Fluttershy had also gotten Sunset a job at the animal shelter to teach her how to help and be kind to others, but the more their friendship grew it soon turned into something more, which was fine with Fluttershy's parents, they only asked the two girls not to be too affectionate around them.
"My parents went shopping about a half an hour ago and Zephyr went with them" Fluttershy responded as a grin appeared on Sunset's face
"That means the house is ours until the come back" Sunset said
Fluttershy just smiled and rolled her eyes at her "Actually I had something else in mind, so could you please let me go?"
Sunset turned Fluttershy around so they could face one another and her grin changed into a smirk "Why?" she asked trying to play innocent.
"I want to go sit down in the living room and drink my tea so please let me go" Fluttershy responded
"Alright! I see what you want, but I do have a price" Sunset said as she leaned in and kissed Fluttershy on the lips before unwrapping herself, grabbing her tea and headed into the living room with Fluttershy following.
The two girls sat down on the couch each taking a drink of tea "What else I had in mind was talking about the nightmare you had last night" Fluttershy said making Sunset curious
"Well what exactly about it do you want to talk about?" Sunset asked
"Why did you have it? ..I mean can you think of any possible reason?" Fluttershy asked moving closer to her
Sunset took another drink of tea before answering "The only reason I can think of, is that I fear about losing control and becoming a monster again, like how I was when I first arrived in this world. Also destroying all of the bonds and friendships I've formed and hurting the ones I care about, our friends and most importantly you."
Fluttershy held Sunset's hand with her own and gave the flamed hair girl a comforting smile "I will never let what happened to you before happen again I promise!"
"There's something else I realized about it and that's what the Shadow said to me" said Sunset
"Which is?" Fluttershy asked
"The Shadow in the nightmare said to me that I was weak, pathetic, we gave you everything and now your useless" Sunset finished
"It probably was your fear messing with you" Fluttershy said
To which Sunset sighed "No it's not, that is what my father said to me before I jumped into the mirror all of those years ago, I guess I still have some negative feelings towards my father and possibly my mother as well and I guess those feelings combined with my fear is most likely what made the nightmare happen."
"I think the best thing to do is talk about your past and try to part ways with those negative feelings so you can move on." said Fluttershy putting her head on Sunset's shoulder to which she took a deep breath and began her story
" Alright here we go" Sunset began "I grew up in the Baltimare City Orphanage to which as you would guess is in Baltimare City and I lived there from when I was a baby until I was 10 years old and that's when I got adopted. The Orphanage was very nice looking there was a lot room inside, it had a big front and back yard for the little fillies to run around and play. The orphanage was run by an elderly pony couple that made sure the all of the little fillies were treated equally and loved. However I wasn’t able to make friends with the other fillies, as I had nothing in common with them, but it was still very nice there. I could never explain why I didn’t have a close friendship with any of the other fillies in the orphanage, I just was never able to form a bond with them."
Sunset look at Fluttershy then continued "I didn't care if I wasn’t friends with the other fillies I was perfectly fine, even know I didn’t form any friendships or bonds with any pony, the others that were there did keep me company. Then one day the orphanage was visited by two ponies, a grey stallion with an emerald cutie mark, with green eyes, a white and silver mane and tail, There was also a ruby colored pegasus mare with a rose cutie mark, with red eyes and a black mane and tail."
One of the elderly ponies greeted them "Hello" he said "what brings you to our lovely orphanage?"
The Stallion spoke "My name is Malachite Colress and this is my wife Rose Colress and as you could guess, we are he to adopt a little one into our ever growing family" he finished
"Oh Is that so?" asked the Elderly Pony.
"Yes" said Rose "you are correct"
The Elderly Pony started again "LITTLE ONES! a nice couple is here to see you all, so would you all come here", the little ponies were very excited the possibility of getting adopted and being having made all of them overjoy with happiness.
Sunset couldn't contain herself "I could possibly get a new home and family, but sighed to herself and thought "I can't get my hopes up to high" as she ran into the living room where every pony else was.
The Colresses were looking at all of the other ponies and didn't like any them, "They just feel blah to my dear" Rose whispered to her husband
"Yes" Malachite said "I agree I just see nothing special here I just don't see any potential" he whispered back to his wife.
Malachite cleared his throat "Now I’m not trying to be rude good sir, but is this all of the little ones? I just want to make sure, we wouldn't want to miss out on seeing any pony isn't right my dear."
"Yes you're right darling it would be a shame if we leave any pony out" Rose responded.
The elderly pony looked down at the little ones "well now let me see here" he looked at all of the little ponies in front of him and saw one that wasn't there "Oh there is one, that’s not here. Sunset! come here please." he said as Sunset rushed into the living room, almost crashing into the others, the Colresses looked over her
"OH honey, I love the look of her mane and tail" Rose whispered to her husband.
"Hmm" Malachite looking at down at Sunset, to which the little yellow pony got very nervous, as she was hoped that they going to adopted her into their family.
Malachite bent down to Sunset with a smile "What is your name little one?"
"Um Sunset............S-Sunset S-Shimmer mister" she replied very nervously
"Aww look how adorable she is dear, she’s very respectful, polite and has good manners" Rose said excitedly.
Sunset blushed, almost her entire face had turn red, she had never been complemented like that before, she was becoming very excited one the inside trying not to let it show on the outside. as she thought to herself "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh, they’re going to pick me! they’re going to pick me! they’re going to pick me!"
Malachite turned to the elder pony "I think we have made our decision now."
"Oh which one have you chosen then?" asked the elder pony.
"We have chosen to adopt little Sunset Shimmer here." said Rose
Sunset was over the moon "Yes, "Yes, "Yes, I’m getting a family" she said excitedly.
Rose and Malachite looked back at each other, then Rose spoke to Sunset "Yes you are coming to live with us". she then left Sunset alone and joined her husband who went with the elderly pony to sign the adoption papers.
Sunset stood there thinking about what was happening "You're getting a family here, you're getting a new life, I’m getting parents, a new start, a fresh start" smiling to herself.
"Well if that's everything taken care of then we best be off dears" Rose said to Malachite and Sunset, as Sunset looked back at the orphanage with one last smile before she headed off to her new home.
On the way to the Colresses home and now her's, Sunset was quiet she was trying to control the excitement inside herself about what had happened, and was thrilled to be with a family.
"Welcome to your new home dear, I hope you're excited to meet three special others" said Rose to her new daughter as she a put her hoof on Sunset's face which made the little one's face light up with a smile. Sunset looked up an saw a big white house, with a red roof, that looked like it had 3 floors and she then looked back at Rose.
"Yes miss.... umm sorry I meant mother and yes I am very excited to be a part of the family" said Sunset embarrassed that she accidentally called her new mother miss instead of mother as even know she just got adopted, Sunset wanted to be to call her new mom by the right title.
"Oh its alright sweetie I’m just happy you called me mother." replied Rose.
Malachite then cleared throat his getting their attention "Well then are we ready to go inside now?" he asked
"Yes darling we are." replied Rose to her husband.
When the three walked into the house Malachite called out to the others that Rose mentioned earlier " Jade! Ruby!, Tyrolite! come here, me and your mother have a surprise for the three of you" he said.
"What is it father?" said a ruby-colored earth pony with red eyes, a black and white mane and tail, who also was two years younger and smaller than Sunset, as she walked into room where Sunset, Malachite and Rose were sitting, the pony's eyes widened and looked up at her father.
"Ruby meet your new sister Sunset Shimmer." Malachite said to her, Ruby then looked at Sunset. At first there was the silence, then Ruby ran over to Sunset and gave her a hug.
"Umm.........hello nice to meet you Ruby." said Sunset surprised to her new sister.
"Hi Sunset welcome , I guess home" smiled Ruby.
Sunset smiled back at her new sister, just then two more ponies walked in the room a boy and a girl, they were also both Pegasi just like their mother, the girl was a dark purple-colored pony with blue eyes, dark purple wings, with a silver mane and tail who was also the same age and size as Sunset. The boy looked like his father a grey pony, with green eyes, a white mane and tail, with the only difference being he had grey wings, who was also three years older than Sunset and was bigger than her.
"Who's she?" asked the grey pony.
"She's our new sister." said Ruby breaking the hug she had placed on Sunset.
"Wait! new sister?, so that's the special surprise you guys were talking about" said the dark purple pony.
"Well this is the surprise Jade, your new sister and her name is Sunset Shimmer." replied Rose to her daughter.
"Sunset huh? well you don't look like much." questioned Jade to Sunset.
"Tyrolite would you like to say hello?" asked Rose as her son was looking curiously at Sunset, she felt nervous wondering what he was going to say, was he going to be like Jade and give her attitude as well? or was he going to be like Ruby and welcome her into the family with a hug?.
"First of all mom, I do prefer being called by my nickname Ty, but since your my mom I wont push the issue and second she seems alright." Ty finished.
"Thanks?" said Sunset with a little confusion in her voice.
"Yeah can we go now?" Jade said annoyed, losing her patience.
"Yes you all can leave, but I would like one of you to take Sunset upstairs to the guest room, which is now her room." said Malachite.
"Well Jade and Ruby can handle that bye" Ty said rushing away, as Jade and Ruby took Sunset to her room, Ruby tried to break the silence and see what Sunset thinking about.
"So what's going through your mind right now?" Ruby asked
"I have know idea, just this morning I was in an orphanage and within a few hours I now have parents, sisters and a brother so a lot of things" Sunset replied still trying to figure out how life could change this quickly.
"Well here's the room I hope it suits you." Jade said opening the door then leaving to her own room
"This room looks nice" said Sunset as she and Ruby entered a room with blue walls, blue carpet, with red pillows and a red blanket that had yellow stars on the bed.
"It does seem to fit you." said Ruby smiling at her.
"So can ask you a question?" Sunset asked Ruby who nodded "What is with Jade's attitude?, I understand that none of you knew what our parents now were doing, adopting another child into the family but she seemed to defensive about it."
Ruby sighed sitting up on bed with Sunset joining "How can I say this?, Jade believes that she's daddy's little girl and is worried you'll take that from her, she even acted like that towards me when I was born." Ruby then laughed which made Sunset feel a little better.
"So I have nothing to worry about?" Sunset asked.
"Nope!, Jade will get used to you, heck she's still getting used to me, however you have one sister that likes you." Ruby said nudging Sunset making her laugh.
"I am surprised though, that you almost instantly hugged when you saw me." Sunset said.
"Well you see since Jade has that daddy's little girl mentality the two of us never really had a big sister-little sister friendship so when I saw you, I thought we could try to have that." Ruby said giving Sunset another hug.
Downstairs Rose and Malachite were talking about if Sunset would do be able to accomplish great things with the family.
"Yes I agree, however plus since she's a unicorn that means young Sunset could become very talented in magic and become one of Princess Celestia's prize pupils and might even become a future Princess herself imagine it, Princess Sunset Shimmer to show how great our family could be and even further our great family's name" replied Malachite.
"I hope Jade tries to get to know Sunset, but that seems unlikely as she walks around here like she runs the place, we just need her to drop that ridiculous attitude so she will at least try to get to know Sunset." said Rose getting out some wine.
"Yes that's the one thing that annoys me about Jade remember how long it took for her to even try to talk to Ruby?, well first thing we need is to get all our children on the same page, because if we don't then we'll keep getting disrespected by the other top families in Equestria for not having a stable and balanced family!" Malachite said angrily.
"I understand your feelings, however our children to come first." Rose replied as the two toasted their wine.

Yes finally chapter 3 is here!, the reason why it took a while to get this chapter out is due to the fact, I have been dealing with writer's block and I didn't know how to start this chapter off or what to call it, so I hope the way it starts is okay and tell me what you think about it in the comments
Chapter 3
As Sunset finished recalling her first day with her family, Fluttershy pondered in her mind what caused this falling out between Sunset and her parents. After a few minutes of sitting in silence the pink haired girl spoke.
"So...um I hope you don't mind me asking this, but how exactly did you have this falling out with your parents? because your siblings seemed alright and by they way your described your encounter with them, the three of them aren't that bad." Fluttershy asked.
"Well that was only the first day and I never really disliked my sisters and brother even after what happened." Sunset responded.
"Oh." Fluttershy said still trying to piece all this together "do you still miss them?" she asked.
Sunset turned and looked at her "Yes" she responded.
"So if you had the option, would you possibly go back to Equestria and see your siblings?" Fluttershy asked curiously.
Sunset took a breath before answering that question as it was something she never really thought about until now. "That's actually something that I haven't really thought about, as I wouldn't know what to say to them for starters and I don't know if they're mad or frustrated at me so...yea." she finish.
Fluttershy pulled Sunset into a quick hug "Well you still have me." she said before releasing her.
'Thank you for that, however if we get side-tracked now, it might be days before I remember how to continue" said Sunset as she took a few minutes trying to pick a good place to continue. "So I could tell you what happened every single day with my family, but that would take a number of days, so i'l just tell you the other important things." said Sunset with Fluttershy nodding in agreement.
"Alright well after that first day with my new family, the next few months were fine I guess, Jade was continuing to have an attitude towards me which didn't help when our parents wanted us to do things together. Ty was what you would expect a big brother to be like, he didn't really like hanging around us girls a whole lot, but when we were around each other it was pleasant..." Sunset stopped for a moment as then a smile appeared on her face.
"Sunset?..are you okay?" asked Fluttershy curiously when she saw the smile.
Sunset looked back at Fluttershy "Yes i'm alright I was just thinking about Ruby, she is the one of the greatest well ponies I had ever met. Like I had said earlier Ruby wanted to have a big sister-little sister blond/relationship since Jade had this attitude which stopped her and Ruby from having that sister bond. Then over those months we formed one." Sunset answered.
"However one day that bond was really strengthen." said Sunset.
"Which was..?" Fluttershy asked.
"The day I got me cutie mark." Sunset responded.
So that's were Sunset continued, Malachite and Rose had asked Sunset and Ruby to get some fruits and vegetables among other things from the sales ponies. While the two had a found sales pony with fruit, Sunset was looking over list their mom had giving them seeing what was on it, Ruby was starting to get a little antsy.
"Sunset how long do we have to stand here?" asked Ruby.
"Not much longer i'm trying to make sure I get everything on mom's list before we move to a sales pony who's selling vegetables so just be patient." Sunset responded looking all over the fruit and looking back at the list to make sure the had gotten what they needed. After they had finished the two walked around until they found a sales pony selling the vegetables and Ruby felt that Sunset was taking even longer trying to find the vegetables they needed. It was only just a few minutes, but Ruby thought it felt like an hour, so she decided to walk around and see what else was there.
"I'll only walk around for a minute" Ruby thought to herself, so as she walked looking at what was being sold. A sales pony selling cotton candy caught Ruby's attention and as she tried to go back to Sunset, Ruby ran into two female earth ponies, one of them had a dark blue coat, purple eyes, with a purple colored mane and tail, she also had a cutie mark that was a wing of a raven inside a heart. The second pony had a a teal coat, hazel eyes, with a black mane and tail with a Hazel colored heart for a cutie mark and both were the same age as Ty and a little bit smaller than him.
"Can you watch were you're going!?" said the Purple pony.
"Umm.........I-i'm s-sor-ry." Ruby said nervously.
"Oh look Raven she's scared." said the Teal pony.
"You're right Hazel, do you think we should let her find her own way back?" said Raven.
"It's dangerous for such a little thing to be alone, however she did bump into you which was rude." said Hazel.
"I think you should come with us little one." said Raven as the two older ponies pushed Ruby away from the sales ponies and further out of sight.
Meanwhile had Sunset finished getting the vegetables "Okay Ruby were done here so let's get moving. Ruby?" said Sunset as she turned around and noticed Ruby was gone, Sunset quickly started to rush around shouting Ruby's name hoping she would hear her.
"RUBY! RUBY!, Where are You!?" shouted Sunset as she walked up to every sales pony she could find asking if they had seen her sister. After 5 minutes Sunset finally found Ruby, but saw Raven and Hazel who were taunting and pushing Ruby around like she was a toy.
"You see why now it's rude to run into other ponies?, because sometimes those ponies will get mad at you." taunted Raven.
"P-ple-ease c-can I leave now?, I need to find my sister." asked Ruby pulling her face off the ground
"Hmmm I don't know, what do you think Raven?" asked Hazel.
"HEY!!!" Sunset shouted at them, rushing over to her sister "Leave my sister Alone!!!" she shouted again.
Raven and Hazel looked back at each other and laughed, making Sunset more angry than she was.
"What are you going to do if we don't?" Raven asked walking over pushing Sunset onto the ground, causing the two earth ponies to laugh once again. Sunset began to get furious and suddenly her horn lit up.
"THIS!!!!!" Sunset yelled and then blasted the two earth ponies with magic knocking them into a wall "Now Leave Me And My Sister Alone, I Will Not say it again." Sunset finished which caused Raven and Hazel to quickly run away. Before Sunset could say anything Ruby quickly pulled her into a hug.
"I'm so sorry Sunset for walking away from you, and causing all of this to happen, please don't be angry with me please." cried Ruby.
"Ruby, i'm not mad at you." sighed Sunset.
"You're not?" Ruby asked looking up at Sunset releasing the hug on her sister.
"No what happened today was both our faults, you for walking off and me for not paying attention." Sunset answered wiping the tears from Ruby's eyes which made Ruby smile
"I love you." said Ruby pulling sunset into another hug.
"I love you too, forever and always." Sunset responded.
However neither one of them noticed that Sunset had gotten her cutie mark.
"Oh that was so adorable!" said Fluttershy with her voice getting high pitched.
Sunset just rolled her eyes amused by her girlfriend, it was this adorableness that Fluttershy had, which was one of the reasons why the red and yellow haired girl loved her some much.
"Are you finished?" asked Sunset.
"It just so cute hearing how wonderful of a sister you were to Ruby." Fluttershy said nudging Sunset, causing her to smile and laugh. "I just have one question." Fluttershy began.
"Which is?" Sunset asked.
"Umm...you've told me that when a pony gets there cutie mark, that it has something to do with the pony or what they have done........so my question is despite it being very wonderful that you saved your sister from the bullies, how did that give you a sun-based cutie mark?" asked Fluttershy.
Sunset pondered on this for a moment, this was something even she didn't fully understand, in the years after that incident she never really thought about it until now.
"I honestly don't know, the only thing that I can think of is that day the bond between myself and Ruby had become stronger and it shined bright like a sun, I know it's extremely cheesy, but it's the only thing explanation that I can come up with." Sunset finished.
"Oh, alright so what happened afterwards?" Fluttershy asked.
"Well the two of us were just happy that Ruby was alright and when we finally got home, what we didn't expect was the reaction from our dad to be what it was." said Sunset as she continued the story.
When Sunset and Ruby opened the front door to the house, they were nervous about how to tell the rest of their family about what had happened today, as there was going to be questions, due to the fact both of them were a little dirty from being pushed onto the ground by Raven and Hazel.
"There you guys are!, mom and dad have been wondering were you've been so what took you?......"asked Ty who stopped himself when he saw his sisters had dirt on them "Why have you two got dirt on yourselves?, have you been rolling around on the ground or something?" he finished.
"Or something.." said Ruby nervously as she hid her face behind Sunset's mane, making Ty give Sunset a confused look, however before Sunset could answer their parents walked in.
"Ah Sunset, Ruby there you two are, finally myself and your mother were starting to get worried, I had begun thinking about sending Tyrolite here to go and get you, but your mother convinced me not too a......what happened to the two of you?, why are you both filthy?" asked Malachite who just as Rose had a questioned look on his face.
Sunset and Ruby looked back at each other nervous about how to say this, it took a few minutes of awkward silence and their father getting impatient telling them to speak up before Sunset spoke.
"Umm......well you see while I was getting the fruit and vegetables, Ruby got a little impatient of waiting for me to get done, so she wandered of and ran into these two bullies who began......you know bulling her, they were pushing Ruby around like she was a little toy, laughing at her, teasing her and when I found her and saw this and I-i............"Sunset stopped looking up at her parents nervously, rubbing one of her font legs around the other.
"Go on!" said Malachite sternly.
"I k-kinda got really angry with the two bullies and blasted them with my magic, which then sent them into a wall" Sunset finished looking away from her parents, making surprised looks appear on their faces and Ty's as well.
"You did what?!" said Malachite.
"I-um." said Sunset trying to answer him before she was cut of.
"You NEVER resort to this kinda of behavior!, I mean do you know how embarrassing this will make our family look!?" Malachite asked beginning to raise his voice a little.
"I d-didn't think about that." Sunset said now scared, Ruby was still hiding behind her sister's mane and was now holding onto Sunset.
"OF COURSE YOU DIDN'T!, we are trying to make this family look presentable to all of the other ponies in Equestria! and now if they figure out that it was the daughter of myself and your mother, others who have been mocking our family, will now think we adopted an angered issued pony!" yelled Malachite.
There was nothing but silence for a few moments before Ty spoke up.
"Um....Sunset did you get your...." Ty said before he was cut off by their father.
"Now I want you Sunset to give the groceries to your mother, then I want the both of you to go upstairs and clean yourselves off and stay in either your rooms or one of your rooms I don't care, just stay upstairs for the rest of the evening!" yelled Malachite.
Sunset gave the groceries to her mother than she and Ruby quickly went upstairs with Ty following. As the three were making their way to the bathroom, Jade opened her door confused on what she had heard coming from downstairs.
"So what is going on and what happened to you two?" Jade asked.
"I'll tell you later." Sunset responded before she and Ruby entered the bathroom, leaving both Jade and Ty still confused on what just happened.
"Does Sunset have a cutie mark?" Jade asked looking curiously at Ty.
"Yeah she does" Ty answered.
"Alright then, I guess that's something interesting." Jade said before waking back into her room and closing the door.
When Sunset and Ruby finished cleaning themselves off, the two had went into Sunset's room for the rest of the night, manly due to Ruby being shaken up after hearing their father yell, they sat up on the bed trying to figure out what had just happened.
"What was all that about?" Sunset asked confused.
"I don't know I've never seen and heard dad that angry before, I thought he was going to be concerned for us, not angry with us." said Ruby who had tears forming in her eyes and had begun to cry. Sunset then wrapped her hooves around her sister to calm her down.
"Ssshh, ssshh, hey it's alright there's no need to cry i'm here, I wont let anything happen to you again." Sunset said calmly looking down at her sister.
"Are you sure?" asked Ruby wiping the tears from her face.
"Yes i'm sure Ruby." Sunset said smiling.
"I love you." Ruby smiled back.
"I love you too Ruby." said Sunset nuzzling her sister.
"Forever and always?" asked Ruby.
"Yes forever and always." Sunset answered.
Back downstairs in the living room, Malachite and Rose were trying to figure out what do next with their daughters.
"Whiskey?" asked Rose.
"Yes please." Malachite answered.
"Did you notice that Sunset now has a cutie mark or were you just busy yelling to notice?" asked Rose who was not pleased with the way her husband handled the situation.
"Yes I noticed." said Malachite taking the whiskey that his wife brought him.
"So what should we do now with Sunset?" asked Rose taking a drink of her own whisky.
"Well given the circumstances of how she got her cutie mark, I think we should see what Princess Celestia and her school can do with Sunset." said Malachite.
"Are you sure that's the best idea right now?" asked Rose.
"Yes Sunset needs to learn how to control her temper and her magical abilities, even know the situation is not ideal, this is something we need to do for Sunset's benefit." Malachite finished.
"Are you sure it's for her benefit?" Rose asked giving her husband a questioning look.
"What's that supposed to mean?" asked Malachite shooting his own questioning look back at his wife.
"Nothing, I just hope your right." finished Rose.
Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter. When Sunset woke the next morning, the sun was shining right into her eyes and as she closed the curtains with her magic, Sunset noticed a red glow coming from her book. As Sunset opened it there was a message inside her book.
"Dear Sunset"
Sunset just smiled, not even half a day from being separated from Ruby, she was already sending her messages. Sunset thought about what to write back for a brief moment before writing.
"Dear Ruby."
"So was attending Princess Celestia's school fun?" asked Fluttershy as she nudged Sunset to get her attention, as she was starring off into space, Sunset looked over at Fluttershy surprised for a brief moment, as she almost forgot that she was telling her girlfriend about her past, Sunset had been reminiscing about her sisters and brother, but manly the good moments with Ruby.
"Oh i'm sorry, I kinda forgot for a moment there I had being telling you a story." said Sunset "So what did you ask me again?" she asked.
"I asked, was attending Princess Celestia's school fun?" Fluttershy repeated.
"Well it was alright, I did pick up learning basic spells quite quickly and handle them with ease, so the teachers then moved me up to learning about advanced spells. Which did give me a little trouble at first, but I managed them." said Sunset.
"That's nice." Fluttershy said smiling at her.
"Depends what you mean by nice." scoffed Sunset
"What do you mean?" asked Fluttershy.
Sunset sighed before answering as Celestia's school was the fall from grace for Sunset.
"Well I was in Celestia's school for four years, so when I turned fourteen that's when I jumped in that mirror and came to this world, however while I was in the school I started to develop my ego, since I was picking up learning spells pretty quickly, I began to think I knew a lot more than I actually did and started to show off a tiny bit. Plus I started to talk to Ruby less and less, which I knew hurt her........." Sunset paused for a moment trying to calm down as many sad memories were floating back to her. Fluttershy saw this and wrapped her arm around Sunset's.
"Why did you stop talking to Ruby?" Fluttershy asked.
"At first I was fine, but after the first year I began to struggle, I was becoming depressed because I couldn't see Ruby. I couldn't see her face or smile, I couldn't hear her laugh or her voice, and most importantly I couldn't hug her. I began to using my ego and being a show off to cover for this, basically using it as a mask to hide my pain. So nopony else would realize this and even know I could still use my book to talk to Ruby, it didn't help, it just reminded me that I couldn't be with her and I knew this had hurt her, which made me feel even worse." Sunset said on the edge of tears, then Fluttershy pulled her into a hug to relax her.
"Are you still alright? asked Fluttershy with concern in her voice.
"Yes but not being able to see Ruby wasn't the worst part about what happen during my time in the school." Sunset said nervously as Fluttershy broke the hug.
"Then what was the worst part?" asked Fluttershy curiously.
"Well when I said I kinda showing off a bit, well you see I meant a lot. Because at the end of my fourth and final year in Celestia's school, I was experimenting with a few advanced spells outside and then things kinda exploded and I accidentally set the school's roof on fire." Sunset said holding her hands over her face.
"You did what?" said Fluttershy shocked.
"Yes I set the school's roof on fire, which didn't end well for me, as I got yelled at by Celestia and then kicked out of her school by the other teachers." Sunset finished.
"What happened next?" Fluttershy asked.
The room went silence for a few moments as once again Sunset was holding back anger. "Celestia sent a letter to my parents telling them what happened and about two hours later my dad arrived at Canterlot and here's what happened." she said
Sunset was pacing around her room both nervous and scared, she couldn't believe that she set fire to the roof of the school, she had began dealing with feeling depressed over the fact that she couldn't be with Ruby and was using being a show off as a scapegoat, but could never imagine this would happen.
"Oh no no no no no no no no no no, how in all of Equestria could I ever do this, OH! I know how!, I had to show off yup that freaking did it." Sunset said to herself, but was stopped by a very loud knocking on the door.
"SUNSET SHIMMER OPEN THIS DOOR!!!!" said by a very angry Malachite, when Sunset opened she tried to quickly explain her actions but to no avail.
"Look dad i.." Sunset said before being cut off.
"What were you thinking!?, oh I know YOU WEREN'T THINKING, i've been told that you have been showing off because you've been able to pick up spells faster than others which has caused you to be stupid and do this horrible thing." Malachite continued yell
"I'm s-sorry da..."Sunset tried to speak before being cut off once more.
"Do you know what this has done to me?" Malchite asked.
"No I d-wait what do you mean what this has done to you?" Sunset responded.
"Well just like what happened four years ago, when you blasted those other two ponies into the wall, you have once again embarrassed this family and most importantly me once again! As other ponies well be mocking and laughing at us for bringing you!, an angered issued pony who goes out makes herself look extremely pathetic and foolish, into this family for what you have done." Malachite said which started to anger Sunset.
"Is that all you care about?, your stupid image, instead of your own children?, if anyone's pathetic it's you!,because you're a disgusting and sorry excuse for a father!" Sunset yelled back.
Then suddenly Malachite raised his hoof and slapped Sunset across the face knocking her onto the floor and as she looked up at him, Sunset's face was starting to swell and turn red like parts of her mane.
"YOU STUPID GIRL!, we have given you a family, a home, and you dare insult me!?. I mean look at you, you're weak, pathetic, we gave you everything and what did you do? you became useless!, if I hadn't lied to Princess Celestia in my letter about how you got your cutie mark, you would have NEVER! gotten this opportunity and this is how you repay me for that?, for everything?. Well it looks like I should have seen this coming, let's just hope Ruby can understand that you never loved her and once you got here you tossed her a side." said Malachite as he now had a smug look on his face.
"Be quiet! I love Ruby!" Sunset snapped.
"Oh really?, is that why you haven't been talking to her through your little books?, because that doesn't seem like love to me." taunted Malachite.
"Shut up!" Sunset said angrily.
"You know what that sounds like to me?, that sounds like Ruby was just a little innocent pony, who looked up to you and considered you her sister. While you were just pretending to love her for your own amusement and secretly thinking she was just nothing more than your tool." said Malachite continuing to taught Sunset, however he soon quickly regretted it.
"I SAID SHUT UPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!" Sunset screamed as she blasted Malachite with her magic into her bedroom wall, then Sunset picked Malachite up with her magic and threw him into the ceiling and then onto the floor, before finally blasting him a second time and sending Malachite threw her locked door.
As Malachite stood up, what he saw wasn't Sunset, what he saw was a monster ready to do more damage if he stayed any longer. When he was walking out of the castle Malachite ran into Princess Celestia who was just as angry as Sunset was.
"So this is your true colors?" asked Celestia trying to hold herself back.
"What does is matter?, she's your problem now." Malachite said smugly, but when he tried to leave he found himself stuck in mid-air.
"Sunset's right your a disgusting and pathetic excuse for not only a parent, but a stallion in general." said Celestia as she saw Malachite trying to move his hoof in a direction towards Celestia, "Don't you dare try that towards me, because if you do I might make you disappear." she finished
"Is that a threat?" asked Malachite
"No it's a promise!" Celestia responded before letting Malachite go "Now get out of my Castle!".
"I can't believe your father hit you." Fluttershy said in shock.
"Me neither, just when I thought I found a home, it suddenly came all crashing down." Sunset said.
"What did you do next?" asked Fluttershy.
There was another long pause of silence, before Sunset sighed
"What did you want power for?" asked Fluttershy.
"I wanted to use it to get revenge on my father, but Celestia denied me of it and one night I was really frustrated with everything and I just wanted to get away from everything so I pack a few things and told Celestia. She tried to help me, however I ran from her and while I was running I saw that room with the crystal mirror inside of it glowing. So I ran up to it and touched my hoof to the mirror, but I saw my hoof going into it and Celestia tried to stop me, but I just didn't listen and then I jumped into mirror arriving to this world........" Sunset stopped "I was confused on what this world was and what I had become, I started looking around and after a few hours it became morning and when I tried going back through the portal, it had closed. So adding confusion and being scared to my already sadness and anger. All the emotions just mixed together into my head and I became the colossal monster that I was in freshman year to the fall formal when you and the others brought me back to the person/pony that I was before all of this started."Sunset answered.
Fluttershy got up and faced Sunset, she then pulled her into a deep-passionate kiss which lasted about a few seconds and as Fluttershy broke the kiss she smiled and said "I love you Sunset with all my heart and I will never hurt you in anyway." then she hugged the flame-haired girl.
"I love you too Fluttershy." Sunset said.
"We are going to spend the rest of day by going out to lunch and doing whatever you want to do, so go get dressed." Fluttershy said as she pulled Sunset up from the couch.
"Alright i'm going." Sunset responded.
When Sunset got to her room and started picking out her clothes, she saw that her book was glowing. She rolled her eyes thinking it was a message from Princess Twilight, but when Sunset opened the book her face lit up with a big smile as the message wasn't from Princess Twilight it was from Ruby.
"Dear, Sunset"
Sunset read the message over a few times with tears of happiness, as for the first time in years she was talking to Ruby
"Dear, Ruby"
As Sunset was about to close the book, suddenly a picture of herself, Ruby, Jade, and Ty appeared with the words "Forever and Always" written underneath, Sunset smiled once more before getting dressed and heading out with her wonderful girlfriend for a day of fun.
