The Changeling empire, once one of the dominant species of Equestria, thrived before the unification of the three tribes, who's fragile secluded kingdoms provided with the perfect hunting grounds for the Changelings.

However once the tribes united under the rule of the alicorn sisters, they turned their swords upon the Changelings and, after a year long war wiped from history books that ended with the death of the Empress, the Changeling empire was disbanded and the many royal Changelings who served as advisers to the now vanquished Empress splintered off to found their own small hives, thus ending the war with the ponies as well as a centuries-old empire, only to start short but bloody civil wars with one another in secret until only six hives remained, scattered across Equestria and forgotten by Ponykind.

That is until Chrysalis's ill-fated attempt at invading Canterlot which resulted in the ponies once more taking up arms and becoming aware of Changelings, making it harder than ever to snatch ponies from their beds or infiltrate communities.

Now, returning to her hive bloodied and bruised, Chrysalis devises a new and risky plan that could end with her either ruling over Equestria or her hive and perhaps her entire species, being destroyed and forgotten.

She's going to reunite the hives and rebuild the empire...and then she's going to war.

This is AU and as such disregards any canon lore for Chrysalis or the Changelings AFTER Season two, due to the fact the last Episode of the show I've watched was 'Apple Family Reunion'. I'll also be disregarding the comics and any Changeling canon they provide as I've not read any of them.
