Chapters The sky was blank and the stars were faint, clouds drifted through the void of the night showing signs that the weather ponies had been working even with the torrential snow storms. It was the beginning of December and every pony in ponyville was excited for Hearts-warming eve. They were all snuggled in their beds at the time and the town was silent with the faint sound of crickets in the bushes and ponies at Hearts-warming parties dancing the night away. The only ponies out doing otherwise were minty swirl and dashing thunder. Minty is a lime coated unicorn with a grey and light lime mane and her husband, dashing thunder, is a yellow Pegasus with black and blue mane.
As they wondered through the path ways of ponyville dashing noticed something in the corner of his eye.
" Hey minty," Dashing said tapping her hoof " look a lake, should we go there? "
" umm... s-sure, lets not stay for long, I-I'm cold... " Minty said shivering slightly at the thought.
" If your cold, " Dashing began to say then taking off his scarf and wrapping it around her neck " ... here, I'm fine so it's ok. "
After she was ready, they began to walk towards the small hill by the lake were they would play when they were younger. They had so many memories and missed those days but now they could be together forever.
They trotted towards the top of the hill and began to take out their small mat they would sit on when they went there, they had brought snacks with them and were planning to have a night picnic. Minty placed the mat on the cold ground and sat down watching dashing thunder place canisters, one by her and one by him.
" here I made hot chocolate, and have these biscuits, they're you favorite! " He said licking his lips and grabbing his drink.
" Thank you sweetheart, I love hot chocolate. " She said thanking him an giving him a kiss on the cheek. He began to blush but soon he stopped when he saw the expression on his wife had changed from joyful to fascinated from something in the sky. He turned to see a colourful light in the sky above them. The Northern Lights. the strand of light bolted out pink, purple and greenish colours making the world around them seem even more dull than It usually is at that time of night. They gasped and went silent, they soon flinched and saw something is the light, dark blue sky.
" W-what's that?! " Minty franticly squealed getting closer to dashing.
" Umm... It's a... wait... is that a FILLY? " He shouted pointing to the small filly hovering in the light sky.
The figure in the sky, moved closer to them and minty slowly reached out and grabbed the young filly out of the strand of light reaching from the northern lights. She stood there holding the filly next to her, trying to keep her warm.
" She's cold, " Dashing claimed reaching out to her " There " He said wrapping his spare scarf , which was in his bag, and held her close to himself. They looked in the sky and the Lights had faded away. Minty began to speak to the stars, which had now brightened, and she closed her eyes.
" Dear Celestia, is this child for us? And if so... thank you, " Minty questioned putting her hoof by the filly letting her grab onto it. she laughed slightly then returning to her speech. " I promise to look after her, the filly of the North. "
Dashing thunder faced her looking shocked how calm and amazing she sounded and grabbed her hoof.
" We should go " He said grabbing the food and mat on the ground and then placing it in the bag on his side. They began to walk home chatting silently about the moment.
They wandered home getting suspicious glances from other ponies heading home from the parties but soon one spoke to them.
" Hey! what's that? oh! we can play a guessing game! it's a.... toy? I love toys!, " The unknown pony continued to franticly guess things until dashing spoke trying to clam the pony.
" This is our filly, no need to guess as-- " he began to explain before being interrupted by a small cry.
" Oh no! she's crying! I'm sooo sorry!, " the pony said jumping around and bowing showing she was sorry. " I-I'm pinkie pie from sugercube corner, come visit some time, happy hearts-warming! " pinkie was trotting away after waving playfully at the filly, calming the filly. Dashing and Minty faced each other and laughed letting the warm air from their body float out and make a cloud of heat within the cold of winter air. They Trotted back and saw their cabin they had moved into when they had been married and still had the thorny, rose filled vines scattered across the outer walls of it. They entered and went upstairs, opening the attic, and searching for items to help their new baby.
" here, here, here and oh! here! right ready to grab them? " Dashing said placing the stuff by the entrance of the attic.
" yeah, I have a horn so I can just fetch them from here, even holding a filly! " Minty commented levitating the items into a spare room, which was decorated with blue, pink and green faded walls. It was quite fitting for the filly so they thought to keep it like that and decorate it with space themed items. Once the new nursery had been sorted out and decorated, they placed the filly in the crib and watched as she fell asleep.
It was 6:30am and the house was silent only the noise of dashing thunder's snoring echoed though the upper part of the vine covered building. Soon the silence had been disturbed after the sound of crying woke minty up.
" I'll get it... " She said slowly and sleepily wandering to the filly's space themed room. She checked on her and noticed that her blanked had fallen off and on the floor.
" Oh, that's why... " She said grabbing it and almost placing it on her before gasping and dropping it on the ground in shock of seeing she had a horn and wings!.
" S-she's an... ALICORN!? " Minty shouted and ran to her room finding dashing already out of bed heading over to her, worried of what she might had seen. She led him to the room showing him the filly and checking if they were real.
" It's real... we need to go to celestia... now " Dashing said grabbing the filly and heading out to their carriage , which Dashing would fly minty with , and took off heading to canterlot castle.
They arrived and headed towards the front gate, approaching one of the guards, and began to speak to them.
" Excuse me but can we speak wit-- "
" who are you, who do you want to see? " The guard said being interrupted himself.
" wooden bridge, let me handle this, " A mare said coming in from behind him. " I'm Solar flare, celestia's assistant, and what do you wish to speak about his time of night? " Solar flare questioned , still looking friendly.
" This filly we were ' given ' is an... alicorn " Dashing whispered quietly trying to hide it. Solar flare went silent and then led them in quickly. They wondered down what seemed thousand hallways and finally found celestia's room , which was decorated with suns, clouds expressing who she was. Solar flare nocked on the door and stood back. The door opened and there, the ruler of equestrian, stood looking at them.
Her mane glimmered and shone in the light of the chandelier's candles.
" Your highness... , " Solar said bowing with Dashing and Minty. " These ponies have arrived to speak to yo--"
" I was expecting you, come in quick, " Celestia said leading them in." Solar can you send these letters? "
" Sure your highness " Solar Said bowing.
" Just call me Celestia, your my helper not just any pony. " Celestia commented shutting the door slowly. They got into her room and sat on some pillows she had placed for them with tea and cake next to each. They sat down and began to talk, the conversation could have gone on for hours, but it didn't. After the conversation had finished, they headed home and got back to bed until the sun rose.
At the brink of the horizon, the sun began to raise and the sky was lit a beautiful shade of orange. The light of day shone through their windows and lit the house. Minty woke and rolled over to see Dashing thunder was gone.
" huh? " she said getting up and heading to the filly's room. She walked in finding her still fast asleep but with a note on the side of her crib.
" humm... lets see... ' Dear Minty swirl and our filly, i have left to go find something, something that bothered me , it was when Celestia spoke to us. Minty, take care of our filly. I love you.
It had been years since Minty swirl and Dashing Thunder had found their filly, which Minty named Northern Light, and it was her first day of school. Being an alicorn , it was hard for Minty to keep her magic and flying under control. After Dashing left to ' find something, something that Celestia said about ' she was coping fine but still the worries of her being bullied hovered in her mind.
" North!, " Minty shouted " have you got everything? " she heard the faint shout of ' yeah! ' upstairs so she went to go and get Northern's lunch. North ran down stairs and grabbed her bag almost tripping over. She then ran over to the kitchen to her mother who then placed her lunch in her bag.
" bye mom! I'm going to be late! " Northern said kissing her moms cheek and running out the door.
" Bye sweetheart! " Minty said waving her hoof. Northern franticly ran to school almost tripping up but soon she made it to school and entered the classroom. The class was filled up with chattering students, she looked around seeing everyone was to busy talking to notice her but the teacher.
" Oh hello, " she said " Are you the new student I've heard so much about? if so, it's a pleasure to teacher you! " The teacher said stepping closer to her.
" Hi... where do I sit? " North asked looking dependent on the teacher. The teacher glanced around and saw a seat by two ponies: one a filly and one a colt.
" over there sweet, by those two at the back. " The teacher said pointing to the ponies talking who soon noticed the teacher pointing at them. Their heads tilted and they looked next to them seeing an empty seat. They waved at Northern and she waved back, which made her drop her bag. Only the ponies at the back , who she waved to , noticed but she then saw another pony looking over and exiting his seat.
" Are you alright?, " He asked picking up one of her books looking at the cover " 'Daring do and the quest for the sapphire stone' I love that book! " The colt said picking a few more books and papers up for her. He then reached for another book and touched her hoof. They glanced at each other. Their eyes glowed. They had fallen in love without knowing it, the colt flinched back and let her take the books and papers in his hoofs and went to sit down. She was blushing by then and continued to walk to her new seat.
" Are you ok?, " The filly asked " I'm Candy dash and this is--- " Candy dash was then interrupted.
" And I'm swift brush, candy's brother! We are pinkies kids! " Swift brush claimed, clearly showing her energy in his DNA. There was an awkward silence but then North sat down and broke the silence.
" I-I'm Northern light, and I--- " She introduced being interrupted ,as usual.
" YOUR AN ALICORN?! " They both shouted noticing her wings lifted , which were hidden under her bag, and then the racket around them silenced. She hid her wings and looked at them blushing and sweating buckets.
" She's an alicorn? weirdo.. " one pony said
" Wait what? ugh, why isn't she in canterlot with all the other stuck-up ponies there? haha! " another questioned.
The class then broke into laughter and started teasing her.
" SILENCE!, " the teacher shouted " Alicorns are princesses , give her respect! " the teacher said stomping her hoof , turning red slowly in anger. The class looked shocked and stared. They turned red and everyone whispered ' sorry ' to the her and the teacher.
" Anyway class, I am Mrs. Note or Sky Note and today we are learning our basic subjects to see how you do at those subjects " The teacher stated slowly passing out books they would use for the rest of their year at the school.
The start of the adventure
It was a Friday night and Northern Light couldn't sleep under the bright, full moon. She couldn't wait any longer and decided to read a book. She had read almost every daring do book and was waiting to read A.K yearling's new book ' daring do and the seven sided chest '. Her mother had bought it for her on her birthday last Christmas and she never had a chance to read it. Now was the time she had been waiting for about for two months. North began to read. She gasped and talked to herself, commenting on the book, and began to yawn half way through.
" I'm finally tired, I should sleep... " She whispered in relief, getting into bed and turning off her Luna-lamp. The room was silent. BANG!
" AAAHHH! " She screamed falling out of bed and hearing her mom talking in the other room. Northern looked outside and saw the Northern Lights trailing from a rock that had fallen from the sky. She knew this was something for her. She came from the lights. She would be with the lights once more.
" I-I what... umm ". North grabbed a pencil and began to write on a piece of paper next to her for moments like this.
' Dear Mother/ Minty,
I saw something and I need to go. I'm sorry but I have to , It speaks to me the thing I saw.
Goodbye mom, I love you.
From your daughter, The Northern Light.
She placed the paper on her bed and began to pack her hoofbag. She grabbed her teddy, which was Luna, :her daring do book : some clothes and other items which you could need. Once packed, she walked down stairs and left the house. she looked behind her and shed a glowing tear, which shimmered in the light of the moon, and turned away to walk to her destiny.
As she wandered through ponyville she had many doughs like: who could be there? what's there? and... why is it there?
She wiped them from her mind and ran towards the glowing rock. North could see it ahead of her and slowed down. She was silent. When she looked at the 'rock of light' and saw the figure of another pony hidden in the misty, space Arora. The pony was laying down and wriggled under the light streaming across the sky.
" Hello?, " North questioned the figure." are you ok? who are you? " she continued to ask.
" uhh..., " The figure murmured " I-I don't know... I think I hit my head * cough * " They said sounding like a filly.
" Oh... " North said feeling disappointed.
" But... I think.... my name is Southern Light, yeah! that's it! and... I have a... " She said being interrupted.
" Sister..., " Northern Light said walking closer and helping her up.
" Yeah... wait, sister?! " Southern Light said with shock hugging her.
" M-my name's Northern Light and it definitely makes sense for you to be called Southern Light... heh " Northern said ruffling her mane.
They chatted and Northern Light explained everything she knew and Southern said what she knew, except basic knowledge, and they then began to investigate the scene. They wondered around and then southern shouted out to North
" Northern! Over here! " She shouted. Northern ran over and saw imprints of star-swirl the bearded's spells but they seemed unfinished with some of the words missing.
" Um it says, " She began to say.
' The Light and krad, the South and the North, those will meet and become rewop eht to stop noomynroht.' interesting... " North said. She thought about it and tried to work out the mixed words.
" The Light and... it's backward! it says dark! ' The Light and dark, the south and north--" North was saying before South spoke.
" that's us, the south: me and the north: you! " Southern said waving her hoof, pointing back and forth at different things. Northern watched as she continued to listen to her sister. She was smart, intelligent and very fun to listen to.
" The light and dark, the south and the north, those will meet and become the power to stop... thorny... moon? yeah! " Southern Light said getting excited.
" Great job, sis, ".Northern said wrapping her arm around her." We know what we should do now..."
" What? "
" We need to look for the ponies of dark and light, lets go. "
" Were? "
" Anywhere we think of. "
