Applesauce:

“Granny, I don’t know if this is a good idea.” Applejack said.

“Nonsense deary. This’ll be one of my best inventions yet!” Granny answered, determined.

“Your last *invention* nearly blew me up.” Applejack snapped, giving Granny a look that could only be described as irritated. Granny had a knack for getting her granddaughter in heaps of trouble with her shenanigans, something Applejack wished she could avoid.

“Aw come on. It can’t hurt! You haven’t even heard what it is yet! Cum’ on, i’ll show ya.”

That’s what you said the last time**.” Mumbled Applejack, but followed anyway.

Granny led Applejack to the barn, where she had set up a table with an apple masher. Next to the masher was a pot of bubbling purple liquid.

“Uh, Granny. What in tarnations is *that*?” asked Applejack, scrunching up her nose.

“It’s my new invention! I plan on sellin’ it!” Granny exclaimed, shuffling to the pot, where she started stirring her concoction.

“I get that Granny, but what is it?” Applejack pressed.

“It’s applesauce!” Granny said, excitement lighting up her expression.

Applejack stared at Granny with a deadpan expression on her face.

“You can’t invent applesauce Granny. It already exists.” Applejack said matter-of-factly.

“I know that, but this kind doesn’t! It’s zap apple-sauce!” Granny answered, continuing to stir her concoction.

“Isn’t that the same thing as zap apple jam?”

“No! It’s got different ingredients. Try it!”

“Um, no offence Granny, but i’d rather not. I think it just looked at me.”

“Hmph. Yer just be’in stubborn. I’m gonna sell em along with the Jams t’marrow.”

“Whatever makes ya happy.” Applejack said, rolling her eyes.

Ponies from all over Equestria come to buy some of Granny’s famous zap apple jellies and jams. They were in for bit of a surprise today, though.  The day had started out nicely, with plenty of customers coming to buy the jelly. Granny decided to start selling her concoction near lunchtime.

“Hello sir, would you like to try our new zap apple-sauce?” Granny asked the stallion at the counter.

“Uh, sure.” He agreed politely, accepting the free sample.

Granny stared expectantly as the stallion tasted the applesauce, holding her breath. The stallion swallowed, a peculiar expression on his face, then he exclaimed:

“I’ll take 3 jars!” He shouted smiling.

“Ye-hoo. You sir are the first to taste our brand new zap apple-sauce. Here are your jars. That will be eleven bits!” Granny answered, a grin stretching across her face.

That's when the storm started. We sold all of our apple sauce, and received orders for 100 more jars.

The next day was even more hectic. Even though the apples had worked their hardest making applesauce the previous night they were still sold out by noon.

By Wednesday the Apple’s had received over 500 orders for the jars. They were busy contemplating whether they should hire help, when a knock came at the door. Applejack went to see who it was.

“Hello there night guards, what can I get ya’ll this fine evenin’?” Applejack questioned the night guards.

“Good evening ma’am. The Princess requested that we get some of your fine applesauce. She has requested five of your finest jars.” answered the closest nightguard.

“Um, sure! Wait here just a moment!” Applejack said, a grin on her face.

Applejack went to fetch the guards request of their finest zap apple-sauce. The guards thanked her paying them, and flew away. Applejack was ecstatic when she told her family of the meeting. They would surely get plenty of sales the next day.

Sure enough, word had spread of the nightguard’s visit, and the lines were twice as long as before. The Apple’s hired help from the people in town to make the applesauce. Once a stallion took a liking to Applejack and started flirting with her as he bought his food.

“Hey pretty mare.” the stallion greeted Applejack.

“Hello sir, how many jars would you like?” She answered.

“Well I would like one that looks quite mouthwatering. It's tall, and orange.” the stallion answered in an attempt at flirting.

“Here you go.” Applejack handed the stallion a tall jar of orange applesauce.

“Hmph. Hey when you get out of work today, do you wanna grab some dinner?” The stallion asked while handing Applejack the bits.

“Thanks for the offer, but I have to make more applesauce! Have a good day!” Applejack said, oblivious to his efforts, waving him along so she could serve the next customer. The stallion walked off mumbling something about Applejack being taken.

As the apples finished fulfilling their orders and delivering the jars, they got one hundred more. They were busy the entire week, right on up to the time that the zap-apples disappeared. Luckily they finished the last of the orders before they popped out of existence.

The Apples had made enough money to pay of their debts, bills, and have enough to last them for the year. There were happy faces around the table that night.

“Well I’ll be. I didn’t expect your experiment to go so well. Were almost all set for the rest of the year! I’m sorry for doubting you Granny.” Applejack said, gleefully.

“It’s okay sweetie. You didn’t know better.” Granny answered, smiling.

“Heck I didn’t! Remember last year?”

The last time granny had tried to make a new recipe it had been catastrophic. She had very nearly blew Sweet Apple Acres off of the map. She had attempted to make a new pie she had titled Sweet Apple Pie. The ingredients had been the same as a normal apple pie but with a secret ingredient which had made the pie sweeter, but what granny didn’t know, was that her ‘secret recipe’ was explosive.

“You know we haven’t tried the applesauce, yet.”Applebloom said, interrupting Applejacks inner monologue.

“Well, I saved one jar for us to share.” Granny said, passing said jar around the table.

It had to be the best thing Applejack had ever tasted. It tasted like the zap-apple jam, but somehow better. She had learned an important lesson that day. Never doubt someone, no matter how much reason you have to doubt them, and you might be surprised.
