In this alternate, futuristic Equestria, many have lost faith in the protection of the princesses and their army, and a terrorist bomb attack on Shining Armor and Cadence during a parade causes tensions in Equestria to reach a breaking point. To protect Equestria and his own family from an emerging threat lurking in the shadows, Shining Armor decides to pass the torch of protector on to a group of outcasts and misfits looking to prove their worth to the ponies of Equestria. He revives the long thought dead guardians of Equestria from ancient times, The Equestrian Knights.
