Discord was at first rather confused at Princess Twilights invitation to her Harthswarming Eve party, however he decided to join in the festivities at the prospect that he might be able to cause a few accidents. It could be fun for him, perhaps Rarity will spill some drink that can stain her outfit on herself and a panic would go over the party goers.
However confused Discord had been at the invitation, he was glad that he had accepted it. He was far more in his element than he thought he would be. He could hang up silly decorations and as long as they were green, red, and white no pony complained. He could hand out sweaters that made anyone who wore them look ridiculous and everypony wore them and laughed. It was as if that whole equine race had stopped being such sticks in the mud, but Discord knew that there were still a few that would need to be taken down a peg and he knew just how to do it. Discord planned to take a pony who was particularly dull underneath the mistletoe and act as if he hadn't noticed until then. But who should it be?
The pony Discord chose for his prank had to fit a few specific things or it wouldn't quite work. They had to be dull, stuck up, have respect for tradition, and be somepony he knew well. He couldn't very well go around kissing random ponies now could he, and if they didn't respect tradition enough they might just walk away, as for being dull and stuck up, it simply makes the reaction that much better. Now who in the room fit that description? Celestia? No, she would take it in stride. Luna? She's got far too much of a tortured past for it to be at all funny. Fluttershy? Heavens no! He simply couldn't do something so horrid to her! Rarity? She would take it as a compliment and walk off the moment she had the chance. Applejack? No! Who knows what she would do! Rainbow Dash? She would fly off as soon as she realized his plan. Twilight? Perfect, who better to prank than the host of the whole party?
Discord trotted over to where the purple pony princess was presented with party goers. "Twilight! There is something you simply must see!" Discord said. "Not now Discord." Twilight replied through a fake smile plastered on her face as she greeted the last few guests to come in to the castle. "Come on Twilight! It'll only take a minute. Also I'm not leaving till you say yes." Twilight let out a heavy frustrated sigh when she saw his determination. "Fine, lets go and it had better be quick." Twilight said with a frown on her face and a wide grin on Discords.
Discord led Twilight to a doorway and suddenly stopped when they arrived at it. "What's this?" Discord said reaching up to lightly hold a bundle of mistletoe. Dread flooded Twilights face as she saw the small plant suspended from the doorway. She knew that Discord was going to play a prank on her when he asked for her to follow him but she had figured it would be something to humiliate her, not give her nightmares! Suddenly anger swept over her. Discord was playing games with her, in that moment she realized that she could not let him win this one, no she was going to subvert every expectation that he had and beat him at his own game. "Why I do believe that that is called mistletoe Discord. I don't know if it's a tradition in Draconequus culture, but in pony culture when two ponies are underneath mistletoe they are supposed to kiss." Twilight said, a smug smile replacing her previous expression. She leaned in closer to Discord and he leaned back far enough that his back was against the doorway. "Uh, I k-know" Discord stammered, surprised by her reaction. "Well, what are we waiting for?" Twilight said and planted a firm kiss on his lips. Twilight trotted away face flushed and heart pounding.
When she got back to greeting her guests, one pony said "Princess, are you alright?" "Oh yes, just a little bit of holiday prankery." Twilight said giggling. Discord was left stunned by the whole experience. When he finally came back into rational thought Discord realized three things. One, never underestimate a stick in the mud. Two, Twilight had not only taken him out of his element but had also made his element hers. Three, he might have a crush!
