A loud knocking sound forced Griffonius out of his slumber. He let out a sigh and slowly stood up from the kitchen chair that he had fallen asleep in. "Who could that be? Can't be Ma or Pa, they're not supposed to be back before tomorrow." He mutters to himself while thinking if he should answer or not.
Reaching the door, Griffonius decides to see who it is and opens the door with an annoyed expression. Outside stands a red cloaked pony, face covered by a dark red hood. "Hello good sir, I am very sorry to disturb you this late at night. I was wondering, may I stay for one night? It's dark out, and as you surely know, the woods are dangerous at night." The voice was soothing and feminine, obviously belonging to a mare. Her face was mostly hidden by the hood, but Griffonius could see that her fur colour was a very light grey.
The mare had a rather dark, predatory feeling to her, and Griffonius were very tempted to shut the door right then and there. However, he knew how dangerous the woods could be at night. So he let out a sigh and gestured for the mare to come inn. "Normally we let strangers sleep outside in the barn, but since the family is out, you can borrow my sister's room." He didn't like the idea of this mare sleeping in the house, but he couldn't let the mare sleep outside in the cold for no other reason than that he felt a little uneasy around her.
Stepping inside, the mare gave Griffonius a smile that made him feel even more uneasy. "Thank you, you're a life saver," She took off her hood, revealing a pair of magenta eyes, and a long dark brown mane. "May I ask, where is the rest of the family?"
Trotting into the living room with the strange mare behind him, Griffonius answered. "They are spending a few days in Berghay. Winter is a calm season for us farmers, and the others decided to take a few days off." Shrugging, the large stallion sits down in a large, dark green chair, eyeing the mare with caution.
The mare sits down in a chair oposite of Griffonius, giving him a look that would be best described as playful. "And so they left you, the big, brave stallion behind to watch the farm? I must say, that does sound rather unfair for you, doesen't it?" The tone in her voice matched her expression perfectly.
Shuffling uncomfortably, Griffonius looked down, avoiding the mare's penetrating magenta eyes. "It's not that bad. I'm not much of a social pony, so I don't mind being alone once in a while." Truth be told, he would rather be alone than spend a single extra second with this mare.
Smiling, the mare stood up, and leaned in towards the large stallion. "Well then, aren't you glad I came by?" She lets out a small giggle as she see the large stallion lean backwards, the chair limiting how far back he can get. "Is something wrong? Am I making you uncomfortable?"
Griffonius is leaned back as far as he could possibly get. "I'm sorry, I just don't usually talk to mares as pretty as you." His voice quickly spits out the lie.
Stopping up for a moment, the mare is unsure of how to react. "Well, I guess you pass," She sits back down into her own chair, blowing a lock of hair out of her vision. "Not the best line i've hear, but it works." She closes her eyes, leaning her head to one side, giving Griffonius a wide smile.
Letting out a sigh of relief, Griffonius moves back to a normal sitting position. The two remain silent for a little while, before Griffonius decides to speak out. "So, may I ask your name? Seeing as how you're gonna stay for the night, it only seems fair we know eachother's names."
Thinking for a moment, the mare smiles once again. "I'm Roseway, but you can call me Rose." She leans back in her chair, looking expectantly at Griffonius.
Slightly reluctant, Griffonius opens his mouth. "I'm Griffonius Nocturne, most call me Griff though." He felt somewhat nervous about giving the mae his name but she gave him hers, so doing the same was obvious.
Raising an eyebrow, Rose asks. "Why are you named Griffonius? It's a rather strange name for a pony, don't you think?" She leans a bit forward. "If you don't mind me asking."
