When one branch of the royal guard was dissolved to make way for a more modern police force, the members of that branch were offered a new job: grouping together as a special task force, doing whatever is necessary to keep peace in Equestria. They take on the jobs that can't be handled by the police, or even the royal guard, for one reason or another. They're some of the most dangerous ponies in the country… and yet also some of the most normal ones. (Sometimes.)
